I know of a few looking for other jobs. I doubt that they will "officially" quit.

You will just notice that not as many people are logging on any longer. They are tired of waiting for work and are picking up other jobs. I personally know two that have other jobs they are working while looking for FT employment with someone else.

There are several 100 MTs at Cymed who depend on their jobs and do not need extra stress right now. Who did you work for that this happened to? Does your situation truly impact the current situation? Inquiring minds want to know.
Editors need to make a statement by not
accepting these jobs. BY THE HOUR PEOPLE!! Tell these companies that pay by the line no way. It is **expertise** they are paying for here. I won't do it. I will get out of the field first.

It all sounds like a bunch of hooey.  My ex husband used to tell lies when the truth would have worked better.  Perhaps she is related to him. 


I cannot believe any MT would not know at least the most important aspects of the BOS.  True, with some accounts, you ignore the BOS and do it however the client wants it, but still, you should KNOW the rules. 


Maybe I'll just put out a shingle and call myself a lawyer.  Of course, I know nothing about the law ... but maybe that shouldn't be a problem.

I quit, but it used to be you had to make a certain $ amt before they would do DD.
I think it was $1000/check. Not sure.
No way I would let QA make me quit my job.
If you enjoy the work, I would continue just as you are doing.  You may even keep them on their toes.  Yes, they are going to find mistakes because none of us will ever be perfect, big deal.  I have had disagreements with QA at my company and the reply was, **Thanks for pointing that out.**  Perhaps there will not be the power struggle you expect, or it will not last long.  They have too many MTs to worry about one in particular I would think.  If you do not want to be job-hopping and you like the work (even though it was not what you were hired for), I would stay and see where it takes you.  When I get feedback on these little dings here and there I just try to learn from it and be careful.  Most of the time I just ignore it because no one is going to let a good MT go over such nonsense. It sounds like you are still the kind of MT they would wish to keep.  Now if I were getting critical/major mistakes in the feedback, I would sit up and take notice and decide if this was the right account for me.
People at TT have been paid! People who haven't well, maybe you did not make count and your check

IMO, so many people have quit, they leave
the names on there to pretend everyone is still with them! Either that or they are so disorganized no one knows who actually works there and who doesn't.
I would think they have to over-hire, some quit, some don't make the grade. (sm)
They don't always know how productive any one person will be until they get in there and try. Had they not hired extra they might have been in trouble when you quit after only a month.

I do believe $50,000 may be possible for many at MQ, but not for Spheris and if Spheris finds out they are paying more than a few MTs $50,000, they will no doubt lower rate of pay again.

Unless, your desperate for a job, I'd stay away.  You can do better with a honest company who treats their MTs fairly. JMO. I currently know of three people who are quitting and it wont be long I am sure before others follow suit.
We had a ton of people in our office quit because of the low line count on DQS when switched from
another DOS platform to DQS. Same account, same doctors LESS lines.

The real number rounds down to how much you averaged/ made an hour.


No matter how you figure, by the line, character, gross line, by the page, by the dictation minute  or whatever, it is what you can average out in a day of work.


You work 10, 12, 14, 16 hours and make $XXXX you divide your hours worked into what you ended up with


I know people say they make more, but I can't, not when it.....
takes me longer to edit than to type it, at half pay I might add.

embarrassed that I work in this field sometime and unfortunately they are all around us too. Not all MTs are that dense.
You people make me SICK!
One persons thanks the company, another asks a questions, another calls her paranoid........ you really need to find something to do.. .....a good beginning would be to treat others in writing and actions as you would like to be treated. 
The only people that are going to make it with VR or ASR are MTs that are nearing retirement and

dont mind the lower wages and who probably already have problems with muscles and tendons from years of MTing or others who as people said are slower transcribers or part time people just supplementing their income who just want to plug along and make a few bucks. Anyone who is self supporting and needs a good income will not make it on those rates without killing themselves and if one company gets away with it they all will because I am sure MQ is next when they come out with their new pay plan and ASR rates and then they will all follow suit. Why send this work overseas and then have to edit it again so I guess they just hope they have everyone behind the 8 ball.

feel they are not being Christian or family-oriented? I certainly did not make those direct statements. Please correct me if I am wrong, but where did I post that or what did I say to make you feel that way? That was not my intention. and remember anyone can post as OP. Many of these comments that say OP are not mine. Just clarifying.
I don't understand why people make posts
telling people to stop whining. Isn't that the whole purpose? We work remotely and as a result we need this catalyst to communicate with one and other. If you don't like people venting then YOU should stay off!!
Maybe they want to make sure people double check their spelling.
If you are not sure of how they are spelled, you really should look them up.

They are well known brands and easy to look up.
I was just curious because I have had some people tell me they make over $1000 every week and that

Doesn't seem a valid point to me. Most people can make 250 lph sm

so why not do it making 8-9 cpl (or more) and make $24-27 per hour?  I don't think $15/hour is much nowadays, but that is just my opinion.  I made that 10 years ago in an office setting -- hate to think of going backwards, although I do reailze that is the trend in transcription nowadays, sad to say.


I just hope he/she (and everyone) finds something that pays more than that, especially for IC work. 


No, not worried, just never heard of benefits for self employed people. That would make them
employees so I dont think you can give those benefits to SE or IC unless the law has been changed.
Here's a news flash for you... many people make MORE money editing....sm

in the same # of hours in a day than they do straight transcribing.  I know because I and others with the company I work for do.   When I was straight transcribing I averaged making $12 an hour.  Now that I'm editing about 90% of the time I'm averaging making $13.50 an hour.  Now THAT pays the bills faster, and I'm still working the same # of hours a week! 


Just because someone posts that VR is the wave of the future doesn't mean they're in management - they're just being realistic about what is happening in this industry (just as they referred to the copier and PCs).  


Of course if you think it's really going to hurt you to do VR then perhaps you should go back to an IBM typewriter and get your own accounts.  After all - using a PC and expanders is helping you get paid for work you're not actually transcribing (yup, think about those expanders - I bet you're not fussing over getting paid to have those kick in instead of having to type out those words, or consider the header information that blows in for you from an ADT feed that you're not having to manually type). 


People do make mistakes sometimes. Maybe it was an oversight or plain ole mistake
on someone's part, an unintentional mistake. It is possible.
In my opinion what you make is confidential and I have seen people get fired for discussing rates.
That all goes along in confidentiality agreements. I am in agreement with you though..it really is not anyone's business. If they want to know, they need to ask the company. The company will probably tell them.

Medquist made me buy a new computer to go to the "Docuscribe" system that was so much better than cottage.  When I got there I took a real big pay cut to the tune of probably 30 to 40%.  I was getting paid gross lines doing Cedars-Sinai operative reports.  I asked for more per line and my supervisor just laughed and said you think were going to pay you $0.12 a line to just do operative reports!  I said I quit.  I should have said F you and your mamma too:(  I had been there all together 7 years through buyouts.  I am just sick of it all.  I'm going to go sew my daughter a cute little Halloween outfit right now. 
If you look back in the archives people left when they realized they couldn't make money with it.

But the posts are also right about getting or not getting riled up. No sense on coming here and worrying. Might easily just worry at home quietly. :)

Yes, doesn't it give you a warm and fuzzy feeling to see exactly how much our government protects its citizens. NOT!


Not only us MTs, but hundreds of other jobs have been outsourced so that CEOs and other parasites can make big profits even though the quality of service has taken a nosedive.  Anybody try to talk to people from Dell Computer, for example? I just say I can't understand a word you are saying and call me back when you find sonebody who can speak English.

Let me guess - you're trying to leave MQ? Look at the number of MTs they have now and the number they had a few years ago. That shows you that most MTs that left are not going back and are happy where they are. If you have an offer from a reputable company that has been around for a while I'd take it, jump in with both feet, and not look back. From your post it sounds like you have more to fear from your present situation than this unknown. There will be some adjustment as you get used to a new platform and new dictators and there will probably be times when you wish you hadn't changed, but just remember that once you were new at your current company and probably felt the same way before you got used to it. Pretty soon it will all be second nature again.

I agree with you on the panic thing, just went to VR about 2 months ago and it is definitely not what was presented to me. I am looking into LPN courses, a year and a half, will make better money than I am now, and keep doing VR on the side. The VR money would qualify for pocket money for sure.
No jumping through hoops for me.

Upon reading your post, my first thought was that is a very cynical way to look at our industry, but then I got to thinking about my paycheck for my present company and how little I make for how hard I work.  Then something clicked in my brain and now I totally agree with you.  You are right -- we are slave labor for the MTSO's who probably make tons of money from our hard work.  Well I am about retirment age and probably will not be working that much more.  I have warned people against this job.  You can no longer make a decent living as an MT and that is a fact.  fortunately for me, I have other sources for paying my bills.  Otherwise I am sure I would have been homeless a long time ago.   Someday there will be no good MT's around and then who will do their work?  Oh I am sure they will find somebody, not necessarily good quality and maybe not a dedicated worker with bad attitude, but that is probably what these companies deserve after all. 


 


Call me totally disillusioned with being an MT.

account to another trying to get my lines.  My primary does not have enough crumbs to keep a mouse alive!  I keep on keeping on but am actively looking for another job now.
