Instant Messenger
I could not stand being on Instant Messenger 24/7. They drove me nuts. I could never get a break. I felt like they were watching me like a hawk. I do not like instant messenger when I am working. I refuse to accept a job using IM. The office manager never was around. Always was on cruises. Had to deal with the staff. They were nice, however.
Yeah, Instant Messenger is very annoying

I would go crazy too. Thanks!

First, their HIPAA officer is an idiot and says to use MSN messenger for pt names.

ANYONE with any brain knows that MSN is not a secure environment for patient names, but when confronted and asked, she said yes we could say patient names in that.  A friend of mine who worked there at the same time told them that she would NOT use patient names in messenger.

i wish she had reported that idiot to the bulldogs!

I don't know where you live but where I live foreclosures are rising and there are no jobs -- non
I worried about my employer for part of the winter as my accounts grew sparse. I had plan to switch to being an employee with benefits but dared not make the switch in this economy (this was last year this time, got it?)
I figured keeping my seniority was worth whatever security it afforded.

My accounts have rebounded some and I can pay my bills.

By economizing seriously, I have paid off my credit card and put some money aside, just in case. I'm breathing easier, thanks.

So, all in all, I'm not complaining. This last winter was brutal, but I had a job and I paid my bills. When employment rebounds and/or national health goes into effect, people will go to the doctor again and we will be busy.

My part of the world is like a ghost town -- everyone who could left to find work in the city -- many apparently leaving their homes to the banks. Several houses in my vicinity have been on the market more than 4 years.

Forgive me my loyalty ... it pays the bills.

What does yelling at the rest of us do for you?
windows
Does anyone know what is better Vista windows or XP windows. I need to know because I am getting a computer.
They also have windows to work in.
They also offer 12-hour windows for an 8-hour shift or 10-hour windows for a 7-hour shift.  That's pretty flexible in my book!
I use ShortCut for Windows also...

I found it simpler to use than ShortHand (I also had downloaded the free trial and decided not to buy).  BUT with ShortCut I have problems having it expand words.  I called tech support and he said to turn off AutoCorrect in any programs I have running (I had to re-do my Expanders from AutoCorrect to ShortCut but I'm sure if I had wanted to spend the time I could have copied them from AC to SC).  Tech also said to open ShortCut BEFORE any other programs.

Anyways, sometimes ShortCut will not expand a word.  I then have to use backspace up to the last letter of the previous word, then space, then type the short form.  It will expand if I do this.  That is extra Keystrokes that should be unnecessary.

Bottom line, for me is.....I use ShortCut because it is simple to use and I did not have time to learn a new Expander program.

Maybe ANON has fixed this on his/her program.  Would like to know.

They do have 12-hour windows, but
it all depends on the account you work on.  the only shift they have open right now is 2nd.
They also recommend ShortCut for Windows. nm

Windows XP - do you have to do the Microscoft upgrade? (sm)

I've heard it's flawed and am afraid to do the time change upgrade.  Will it show that all the reports I do are an hour ahead?  I work on Ex-Text.

Short Cut for Windows and Webmedx
Does anyone know if Short Cut for Windows is compatible with Webmedx's Enterprise program?  Hoping to take it with me when I leave the Q............
new computer -Windows Vista sm
Will I have trouble finding a company that can use this??  TIA
Definately shorthand for windows---sm
This is hands down the best Expander I have ever used. If it works with the platform I work on (dinosaur) it will work on anything, or with anything. here is a direct link to website to download:

http://www65.pair.com/lim/shorthand/sh10dnload.html

you can have a 30 day free trial. If you wish to purchase after 30 days, you have several options for payment. I chose 29.99 a year with free upgrades. I don't know of any other expander software out there that could beat that in performance or price, and I have tried quite a few...InstanText, Smarttype, etc. I am extremely happy with ShortHand and cannot say enough about it. It works just like autotext and is so easy. give it a shot!

Need tips for converting PRD for DOS to Shortcuts for Windows, please. sm

How can I best start "cleaning up" a copy of my beloved PRD for DOS  to make for a less-hassle conversion to Shortcut for Windows?  Many of the headers in my PRD have special DOS characters for bolding, and I don't think they will be useable.   For many of my glossary entries, I use slash marks (i.e., cad/ for coronary artery disease).  Are the slash marks a problem in Shortcut?  If so,  what's a good character to substitute (a "q" maybe??).  Thanks for any suggestions.  I'm trying to make this conversion in a month just a tiny bit sane.

Ever been fired from Keystrokes because of Windows Vista?
I just spent $1000 on all new equipment including a new computer with Windows Vista which is what they recommended as their program is compatible with Vista. When the computer tech had to spend hours on my computer getting it to work with Vista, a certain administrator let me go because it wouldn't work for their account.  I am in tears.  I've never been fired from a job, especially for something that I was asked to do to work for them.
Does anyone know if ChartScript is compatible with Windows Vista?
I just ordered a new HP laptop with Windows Vista, and I was wondering if anyone knows if the ChartScript.net platform will run on Vista without any problems. I want to be able to take my laptop with me when I travel so that I can work on the road.
They flew out the MTSOs' and the hospitals' windows
BTW - Ever hear of that old,
'He who casts the first stone' saying?
Ex-Spheris MT, HITS is a windows-based application...

you will type in.  It is very, very user friendly.  Frankly, it is the only aspect I miss about working for Healthscribe/Spheris.  Good luck!!

Question for Escriptionist. I need a new computer. All the new ones have Windows Vista. Is this
compatible with the EditScript platform. Seems I have read that some platforms are not compatible with the new Windows Vista, yet that is all I am finding when computer shopping.
I had that happen and had to play them in Windows media player-nm
xx
Okay.. I've tried Windows Media and Real Player.. nothing.. still saying I need codecs.
I've never had this problem playing a test before. I am not sure what the deal is. I hate to give up .. but...
Which shortcut program works best with Windows-based Meditech?nm

It depends on where you live. If you live in their
service area it would be cheaper than outside their service area.   I only have rates for out of service area and medical is  139.13 for family or 168.42 depending on what plan you choose.  Dental is 20.85 for family, vision is 5.13.  These are per pay period.

Individual coverage would be 44.79/54.21 medical, 7.99 dental, and 1.71 vision.

I opted out of insurance as we have through my husband's job.  I believe  the cheaper insurance is a 70/30 plan and the more expensive an 80/20, not sure about co-pays.  Deductibles are $2000 for family, not sure about individual.
You must be psychic. I just ended up going on Ebay today and bought a Dell with Windows XP on it.
I originally went through Dell directly but they charged $400 more for the same computer because they were customizing it with Windows XP as now all the computer came standard with Vista. Apparently not so customized..haha.. better deals on Ebay.. I LOVE EBAY..
Transhealth requires 2 yrs nm

There is at least 1 facility that requires US MTs only.
It is actually their largest account. I worked for them a few years ago and worked another service that did this same hospital. This hospital is very picky and absolutely will not allow any offshore work. I guess they will have to keep all US MTs on that particular account in order to keep it.

I would invite all DRC MTs to come on over to TransTech, you will find a home here.
I believe TT requires 5 years
experience
It is SO unbelievable...this job requires
us to constantly keep up with the new procedures, meds, surgical instruments, etc., it is a constant learning curve...and it just kills me that these companies offer less and less money every year...been doing this for 20 years now and it has really gone down-hill! Someone needs to understand what it takes to become a skilled acute care transcriptionist! Maybe the Feds can help us out...they're doling out billions to wealthy investors these days...
Do you really think that this profession requires MORE than others? sm
Come on, nurses, teachers, most other *professions* have to keep CEs updated, etc. Wages are stagnant in *most* fields right now, not just this one.

If you feel like a victim, find something that makes you happier and feel empowered. That's not anything but truth.
you must not have made the grade. He requires
very high quality work, but pay is worth it.
any company that requires YOU to pay THEM is a scam
never ever would you have to pay a STAFFING AGENCY to keep you on a list. The only time you should pay for work is if you are hiring a headhunter to do the search for you.

P.S. I'm not yelling - ... just in case anyone feels that they need to jump down my throat.
that employer requires employees not to say anything on the
.
Nothing wrong with that. Their work requires someone with
that set in stone requirement.
MDI-MD only requires a line count (sm)

commitment and they are now getting some accounts that are internet-based.

Anyone know if Silent Type requires you to fly to NJ? sm

If so, I hate to waste my time (and theirs) by even applying.

Thanks.

Honestly, I am not sure, but since the hospital requires it and I have been through one before..
they just checked to make sure you didnt have a criminal background. The way I understood is that companies in which they require you to handle money i.e. financial companies, banks etc.. require credit check. I had one once when I applied for an insurance company as I would be paying medical claims. So, I really think the hospital will not require this.
Most of my ME work requires little editing.
I still come out ahead on it.

We have our own speech recognition software called DocQspeech.

I like it.

I make 8.75 cpl for my transcription and 7 cpl for my editing. I have greater production on my ME work, though, so that I make a fair amount more when I do edit work than with transcription.
BOS is a ripoff, as well. If your MTSO requires - sm
you to have it, do like I did and buy a used CD of it on ebay instead of that expensive book. (OR, if you've got a friend with the CD, maybe they could make a copy for you).
Webmedx requires only 2 years.

I don't think anyone requires 2400 transcribed
lines daily. Where I work, to maintain FT status we are required 1200 lines a day/6000 a week.
Keystrokes requires C-phone? NM
NM
MDI-MD requires 1 weekend day commtiment.
I don't think the OP wants any weekend work. Phoenix Medcom doesn't do weekends, so even though their pay is not the best, they'd still likely be able to accommodate her schedule much better, I think.

Does anyone know if Shapin requires weekend work? Thanks! NM

MQ requires 24 hours per week for PTO benefits.nm.
x
Allegiant requires 500 lines per day rather than set # of hours
nt
Medical transcription is an industry that REQUIRES sm
patient transcription to be completed within a specific amount of time for proper patient care. MT is not carpentry or house painting or any other industry where human welfare is not at stake. Therefore, IC in MT terms is different than those others and must have MTs transcribing at the times they commit to in order to get the work done for proper patient care.

If you want to do your work on your own time, get your own accounts and see what happens if you don't stick to a schedule.

My account requires a second phone line (nm)

If your employer requires you follow BOS2, then you would have to
follow it or be in danger of losing job as your QA would be way down percentage wise.
If a company requires a set number of hours,
production, or schedule then they cannot classify the MT as an IC and the MT cannot say she is an IC per IRS. They are to be treated as an employee, PT or FT, whatever the case may be.
Spheris requires $250 deposit, which is returned to you when
