I wonder if you turn them in to the FTC, BBB and/or Department of Labor if they could get the dummy office shut down? If nothing else, BBB complaints would serve as a public warning to others. $2,000 is an awful lot of money to get bilked out of.
I don't think you'll be breaking HIPAA if you call the hospital you did the transcription for and tell them that this company did not pay you. They would want to know the character of the people they're dealing with. Besides, not paying you is breaking a contract in itself. It's not like you're breaking HIPAA because you're not discussing patients and their medical care anyway. If you warn American transcriptionists and hospitals not to do business with this company, they'll have no work left. Let them know that you will not be jerked around.
I would certainly be calling national newspapers and magazines as well. Who cares if you got duped? Warn other people and shut the offshore crooks down.
