Tired of being called an old lady or aging!

Posted By: I have had it! on 2009-01-06
In Reply to: In fact you are right and wrong sm - There are shortages and then there are shortages

I am in this over 26 years. call me old! I am young at heart, about 21. I am also in biological age just 47! How dare you assume. Some of us started working our way through college! I have 3 small children yet, and plan to work for many years to come in this industry. Also don't talk to me like a dutch uncle telling me how I complain this, etc. You don't know me (the above poster) and don't presume you do! I am at once apalled, and insulted someone would come here and talk to me, the one reading this, that way. If you had to put your user name on a regular basis, you would never speak this way. One thing about this board is allowing people to post names on this board begets nastiness. There, now. I have said my old lady, lazy, bad-quality, MTness piece!

some lady called...
sounded more like she was screening me. She asked if I had the required needed to work for them (cardiology/pulmonology), line count, high-speed, etc. I told her yes, and she said someone would call me in a few days--that was a few months ago.
It's called desperation. Am tired of it, too. NM
.
Maybe they are tired of hiring so-called experienced people sm
wwho get someone else to test for them. Maybe they want to hear the correct answers straight from the horse's mouth so to speak...
Well, what you going to do when you have aging population and
not enough people here in the US to take care of the amount of work they have- sure you outsource to India, right? I was not on this site when this article came out back last year in the paper- I so wished I could have posted then.
You have never heard that our population is aging?
Have you ever heard of baby boomers?

It's amazing how people will read something and take it so out of context. Aging population or workforce means in general - not just MTs.
Larry Gerdes CEO of Transcend is aging just like the rest of us!
LOL!!
tired, tired, tired of all the tech
problems with these platforms.  I just want to work on an old fashioned program, like WP5.1 or Medrite, maybe with voice wave.  Too many problems.  Does anybody know any companies that use something like these.  Just call me a dinosaur lover.
This is the TTD lady for sure

Or someone who works with her.  No MT would be saying so what.

The Fat Lady Sang
Yes, but did she sing in harmony?
Thank you kind lady.
nm
You are way off base lady
I have worked with Holocaust survivors, have you? Ive worked cleaning their rooms taking people for walks, holding hands, listening to stories of horror and hope, shared art therapy moments, given hugs and support. Dont you dare judge me. You are way out of line, whoever you are. If you get nothing else from what I've written here, get this: No one wants to be labeled a victim. You have absolutely no right.

Peace.

She's a nice lady but there isn't
I spent most weekends on her stuff.  The pay was way low, but she doesn't charge much anyway.  She would dump on me Fri night... not sure why she keeps needing this same position, but that should tell you something.  She posts for this position every month or so...  I guess no one lasts....
You mean the lady named Pepper at OSI?
who knew!
Ur gettin' on my nerves, old lady!

When the lady sold her company to..sm
Execuscribe, it went downhill from there.  I was hired by them, went through ALL of the testing except the Psych thing.....and then I was told I would be paid 7 cpl and I had to purchase liability insurance.  CC....this Denise person must have been your "bestest" friend????
nice spelling lady
x
I beg ur pardon, young lady!
I was NOT being sarcastic! Medquist truly IS my best company - my previous company paid $9/hr. and at the Q I make $25 - U may open mouth and insert foot now, missy!
I'd say no way, nice lady or not. There is absolutely no
way I would wait for 45 days for a paycheck.  She's waiting to get paid before she pays MT and if she doesn't have the $$ to pay MTs whether or not account pays, that doesn't speak well of the company.  Also I'm assuming that 6 cpl is as an IC.  You'd be better off working in fast food.
There is a lady who posted here in the past - sm
Snowbunny I think is her name that uses it a lot because of her CTS I think. I just recently reloaded it on my computer (had it on my old one but never programed it), and still need to work with it a bit in order to actually start using it. I think it would help me a lot as I am not very fast at typing, even with my shortcuts, etc. Plus it would break up the monotony some I think. I have DNS8. I want to upgrade to the newest (10) but it is quite expensive, so it will probably wait a while. But I have heard if utilized correctly and with some work it can be worthwhile, but like anything it takes practice and you need to build it up, etc.
The J&J lady said to call her if there are questions.
It doesn't matter to me at all, so I haven't.
High maintenance lady? LOL

High maintenance ladies usually find themselves a sugar daddy to provide their maintenance.  LOL  Ever consider combining your traveling to help someone who is less high maintenance?  Do you know that you can volunteer just about anywhere in the world doing good while vacationing at the same time?  How about volunteering with Habitat For Humanity?  You could combine that with your traveling too.  Gives you a much more warm and fuzzy feeling than just doing for yourself.  BTW we just bought a nice large motor home to serve as our private motel room.  Actually my husband and I are pretty low maintenance, we get our kicks by doing things for other less fortunate people.  Try it, you might like it.

BTW Chatty, how have you been doing the last few years anyhow?  Don't ya just love being anon?  LOL

Hey coffee lady MssIndigo!
I got a kick out of reading your original post about VR and I appreciate this feedback also. I know, it's though though and I have been an MT for 20 years. I thought I was going to be transcribing when I got the job but it is mostly VR and my minimal goal is to achieve 250 lph, which is creeping up, but not there yet. I tell you though... I work hard for that money. My biggest thing with any new company is constantly looking up docs and different facilities. If not for that, my fingers would be flying. Let us all hang in there with a sip of coffee every now and again, eh!
She's a sweet lady. She has a lot of experience and a lot of stories that go with it.
I like her a lot, but I can kind of see where you are coming from, as whenever I've spoken with her I could pretty much write off the next 60-90 minutes. It was a great time to clean out email, though! (And if you are reading this, you-know-who, it's not a criticism but rather an acknowledgement that you have a LOT of stories to tell!)
It is the lady who I call to request time off?
nm
Does anyone know how to contact the lady at Administrative Assistants?? (sm)
I can't find anything for a website or in the archives here on how to contact.  Thank you.
Me thinks the lady doth protest too much

I do not know All Type or any of the people involved in this but it have been reading along because I am interviewing with them next week.  I was very upset by this and scared that I had made the wrong choice.  You have made a lot of statements and I was thinking that you were treated unfairly and that I hoped you proved your case in court and maybe make our place in the industry a little stronger.  We are the lowest people on the totem pole in every company and we do get kicked around a lot.  But you now sound like you had it in for one particular person at your company and have worked very hard to cause problems for that person.  I just do not know why you would stay there or even want to go back if you hate this person and she makes you this unhappy with your life and job and she singled you out to cut your pay so drastically.  I agree with the other poster who said you have wasted a great deal of time on this and that you should move on and find yourself a better job with a company that is a better fit for you.  I think you have gone too far and become far too emotional when you get this dangerously close to slander.

i got an email from them. Very nice lady, would love to work for
I'm sure they pay very well but I need the insurance. I went with JLG.
I worked for a lady's service who was bought out by Transcend
a few years ago and they offered her a position in the home office. She sold, had the job for a few months and then she was terminated. I know for a fact that Transcend said in a paper article in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution that they outsourced because could not find enough American MTs to do the work. Now what I find surprising is how many complain on here about sitting and waking for work for Transcend. Wonder how that happens?
Funny, but the lady I talked to on the phone about a job there made me decide right then for some
gut feeling that this wasnt for me. Not sure exactly what it was but sort of turned me off.
It's IC, hospice reports, Dictaphone ExText. Nice lady, but
nm
Deb at Freedom Type is an upstanding lady. You wouldn't go wrong
y
I talked to the insurance lady too (she is very nice) and was told the same thing. sm
I called the office and talked to a high-up manager who said that they haven't said anything because they do not have anything in writing and do not want to give information and have it be wrong.

The premium for employee only is $404 per month and KS is paying $202. This is much better than I had at another company that I do not want bash as this was the only issue I had.

I love it at KS because I have plenty of work and everyone in the office is so nice. My lead changed positions in the company a few months ago and my new lead is very nice and more organized. I have been there 11 months (this time) and was there a year before that in 2005-6. I made the mistake of thinking that the grass was greener but it wasn't!
Years ago I knew a completely blind lady who worked for Medware (nm)
x
They have called me twice and I have not yet called them back
Per your recommendation, I just might. Thank you.
I called and called and e-mailed my STM. When that got no

results I went over her head.  Got another account, but with 3 accounts still not enough work to get in more than 20 hours/week.  I worked a shift that was part 2nd/part 3rd.  Some days OT was offered, but then there wouldn't be work the next day.

I remember some posts at the beginning of the year from a lady who didn't get paid - she was stea

No one called you a joke, just called the post a joke because
we all know better, but you're entitled to your opinion.  You're the one insulting saying those of us who don't like SS probably couldn't cut it and that is the reason for our complaints.   You would be hard pressed to find anyone who ever worked for SS to agree with you about how wonderful they are.   They aren't getting new accounts, yet they always have an ad running - umm, let me think why that is.
because i'm tired of you or whoever
Nonsense about MQ going under.  Vague statements like "watch out" or "be scared, changes on the way" and nothing to back it up.  I work for this company and so do about 9,999 people, you are playing with our minds here.  I have sifted through everyone one of these postings worried i'm going to lose my job.  Sorry if it was not you, but someone is doing it.
Tired? Where are you getting the
variables of 8, 16, or 24 hour work weeks? I've read everything and see nothing about that.

I'm currently an SE (having just switched from FTE several months ago!), tier 3, and capped at the line rate, but see NOTHING about part time having to work in 8, 16, or 24 hours. Perhaps my eyes are worse than I thought!
Tired of it too...
Work myself to death and can't get line requirement.  Was told they paid for headers and footers, but apparently not..Made up to $18/hr in private sector and if I get close to $10, it's a REALLY good day.
sorry I'm tired, not your, you are.
nm
Sorry, I am tired
and did not read your post that well. Here is a link to help you convert from DocQScribe expansions to Shorthand:

It may take a little tweaking to get it right, but it sure beats starting over.

Tired Too...
There is too much unpaid time, period, in this industry. There is a significant amount of time worked that isn't paid. We don't get paid by time, we get paid by moving fingers. I recently had a situation where I was having a new application installed. It was installed wrong and I fought the thing all day trying to figure out the problem. Finally, someone sees one little box not checked. I miss an entire day of pay, but the person who screwed up my install gets paid. Now there is something very wrong with this picture. I'm personally working on changing it, but it is a long road to hoe. Our pay structure is a little confusing to the average attorney.
Tired
I so agree with you. I would never, and I do mean NEVER, advise anybody to choose this line of work. It has been good to me in the 80s and first half of the 90s, and it has been all downhill from there.....
okay, i am tired, but....come on
Okay, I think I saw one typo....big deal. Here is someone offering their time and probably blood, sweat and tears for FREE, and we have to point out their mistakes. Hey, SM email me and if I get the job I am trying for, I would look into if you could type some, and I proofread for you and you don't have to work for free... you work for half of what I get and I will be getting I hope 11 cpl, so I will pay you 5.5 cpl. How does that sound?
To old and tired
I am with you. Since the late sixties I have made a lot of money MTing (until the 90s). Today I would absolutely NOT advise anyone to become an MT for any reason. Since I have three years until retirement, I will stick with it, but I now make exactly half what I made in 1997.

tired
I am incredibly happy at MDI-MD. They are kind, honest, the work is plentiful and I have never been happier.
Tired
No need to Google, here you go:

I'm with tired

I've been an MT for about 18 years now and when I get my periodic social security statements and when I look at my earnings record I could just cry!  My income went up steadily for the first 4 years or so and since then it has gone consistently down!  I now make about 1/4 of what I made at my highest point and I work just as much, if not more.  I am so sick and tired of this crap!  I know many long-time MT's and don't know of any who is doing better than they had 10 years ago or who is happy with their companies, or hasn't worked for so many national companies that they have lost count.  These companies benefit from our experience while we have to deal with their crappy platforms, bogus line counts and QA people who think they are the queens of medical transcription, each one with their own set of rules and very little MT experience.  If I have a blank, then I might need your help; otherwise, don't tell me where the hell to put a comma and don't add words to dictation that I know is not there or take out words that I know were there, especially when I have no way of relistening (although for the umpteenth time) to the dictation - Got to find something wrong with the dictation, that justifies the need for your QA position, and then when the company wants to change that big 8 cents per line they promised me to 7 cents a line to up their profit, they then can lower my QA score.

The new thing now is to pay you about 2.5 cents per line for templets!!  What a bunch of crap!  That templet wouldn't be there if I didn't put it there and more than half the time the templets need to be altered, either because the dictator wants it changed or because it was screwed up in the first place.

I'm sorry, but all you Happy, Happy MT's that say you work for national companies sound a little too much like job recruiters for these companies.

Being a good medical Transcriptionist is NOT an easy job.  We pretty much have to know about as much as a doctor does in any given specialty without actually going to medical school.  We have to keep up to date on any new instruments, drugs, etc., in every specialty and God forbid we put a comma where AAMT says it should not be today or type in or on when the QA person says the dictator did not state this.  All this and my 19-year-old daughter makes way more than I do!  Now that I think about it, so does everyone working at McDonald's!  Sad thing is that I have sat on my butt typing for so many hours for so many years that I don't think I could stand on my feet for 8 hours a day and I am way too young to retire.

Good luck to you that stay behind, I'm out of here!  Now this post will either be deleted or all the Happy MT's will attack!  At this point, I've typed way too much without getting paid for it anyway, so have fun, it's all yours!

I am tired. LOL!!!!! Getting.
