Too much info often makes fuel for fire for those looking to flame (sm)

In Reply to: I think the point was to POST names of good companies for all MTs to see, - not just email privately...

If an individual is actually looking exactly what is wrong with E-mailing that individual? A person can post hateful comments anonymously on this board, but when you are E-mailing back and forth people tend to be more friendly and less critical. JMO

Where is the flame. It was only stated that you had incorrect info. Calm down a little
We can see you dont like the company but there are those that do like it.

We can state our opinions as well.

    No one was flaming you.
And yet YOU fuel the fires. Good grief, practice....
    nm
Thanks for info. Makes a difference whether I apply or not.

Not to flame but telling me I don't

Thank you for mentioning things in your latest post that you left out of your first.  See how easily one can jump to conclusions?

For what it is worth, I ran my own daycare for 10 years.  I know EXACTLY what it is like to be the one responsible for every aspect of running a business day in and day out, when people don't show up or go to lunch and don't come back, having to meet laws from varies state agencies that are contrary to one another and smile the whole time.  I've started work at 5 in the morning and finished at 9 at night (while trying to raise my own two young children).  I know what it is like to cook for 95 kids EVERY day for a year because I couldn't keep good help.  I know that until I converted all my private investment into a nonprofit organization, I could not achieve the success with my business that I was able to do.  Imagine working for 10 years and having NOTHING left of it but a good reputation, no retirement plan, no assests, nada, because the effects you left on people and the benefits you offered were worth all of it.  Would you be willing to do that?  Not many would, I bet.

When you want to yell at me some more and show your true colors, you will turn away the good MTs whom you were trying to entice in your original post.  See how easy it was to fly off the handle.

I do wish your business well, but I stand by what I said.  I save you money by working from home and doing what I do.  Every year I get devalued by the onslaught of forces I cannot control.  If you want to toot your own horn, I would suggest a marketing consultation next time.

    Peace.

    Yellow flame
Can somebody please tell me what the yellow flame means?
Yes, a flame happens after a post has been
viewed a certain number of times...I think it's 200 on most of the boards.
Not a flame, just a question
How much do the pay you to spout the company line?
    Flame you? I applaud you!
That was a remarkable post. You have guts to be able to lay it on the line like that. Yes, you have to work SMART in this field. I am fairly new at this, a little less than 4 years as an MT, but I am doing very well and do better every year. I make a fair bit more than what some of the MT's on this board say they make who also say they've been at it for 20 or 30 years. The response I will probably get for this is how unfair it is that they don't make more money than I do because they have so much more experience. My question back is why AREN'T they??? It's not the big bad MTSO's fault. This is a field that rewards talent and ingenuity, not tenure. Don't get me wrong, knowlege is invaluable, but it should enable you to produce more and therefore make more money. Now I'm going to put on my flame-proof suit, just to be ready!
Keystrokes warning not a flame -sm
No flames, but my version...be VERY VERY sure you have a job with them BEFORE you quit your other job. I was hired, got the programs loaded, waited for training, and never heard another word from them......all after I quit my other job. No flames, just telling what happened to me, as a word of warning about this company. Even getting it in writing is questionable. I got no answer to multiple telephone calls and e-mails. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
This is not a flame, but how recently did you work for them? nm

Re: The flame by my original post
Folks I'm sorry someone considers my post a flame.  That was not my intention, but then again I have never been treated worse by an employer in my whole professional life.  That's why I'm looking forward to working for a company without local roots and the small town, small-minded mindset it brings.
They flame out so fast and so ugly.

this is a flame plain and simple. NM

Flames? Putting on my flame retardant suit. sm
So what if some are happy and express their feelings about a company.  If given the companies and the reasons, each of us can use this info as we need to.  The remarks that just say Stay away don't help anyone.  In fact, makes me wonder what the poster did that contributed to the bad remark.  If someone disagrees with your reaction to a company and flames you or if you get flamed for giving reasons, seems to me you are getting flamed one way of the other.  Might as well give reasons and help educate the rest of us.  And no one knows who you are, what do you care about the flames?  Actually, when I get flamed, I have to smile a little to think about how I got everyone excited for a few minutes.
    Who did she fire?
Can you give the initials? Just curious.  I keep seeing the e-mails coming through for quality department positions.  I wondered what was up.
Did they actually tell you they would fire you?
I am ignoring the paperwork until pushed. How do they know I even got it? My attorney says that arbitration agreement would not stand up in a court of law anyhow.
They cannot fire you just because you
are pregnant. There would have to be a cause as you are an employee. It is discrimination if they get rid of you just because you are expecting.
    They can't fire an ex-employee.
    nm
    where there's smoke there's fire!

Obviously more than one person has come forward and said they were told work is going to India.  The person who told me was not a "mere" MT.  Everyone knows they're sending work to India but no one on this site is going to stand by their promise of USA companies only!  I'm sure Webmedx is not far from turning into another Medware and trying to turn all us MTs in to janitors to clean by the C**P that these Indians put out.  This is just another example of the big companies turning our jobs over to India and then waving their flags trying to hide what they are about.  I can't believe this site actually expects companies to "publish" they're stabbing us in the back while they're smiling to our faces asking us to come to work for them (until they decide they want editors and not MTs).

Wake up Administrator!  No one is going to admit they're the "bad guys"!  When are we Americans going to start standing up for own jobs!!

They don't like to fire people, so when they
would like someone to leave for whatever reason, they get the no work thing or the worst dictators.   Until this week I could work 24/7.  Never, ever (except during hurricanes) have I not got my lines, rarely have to call for work, NEVER told to take a day off.
let them fire you ... and collect
As long as you are not being fired for not keeping to your schedule/agreement, etc., I'm pretty sure you can collect when fired (even if you weren't making your line count, were ill, etc.) It's much harder to collect (and easier for them to dispute the claim) when you resign.

Spheris WILL NOT give you a good reference. They make a permanent note on your record so you can't re-apply either. So forget that!

IMO, you should just wait it out, if you can, and collect while you're looking for something worthwhile.

    Good luck.

    frying pan to fire.
stay away and see if MQ gets their act together.
    and it is rapid-fire

questions, bam, bam, bam.  so have a cup of coffee about 1/2 hour before. When I took it the recruiter actually apologized for their line rate.

Maybe so they can fire the slackers? nm
    .
If I'm not mistaken, they can't fire you for doing so
    .
Most MT services can fire you "at will" and it is in most
    contracts that you sign.

However, I will tell you working in QA that generally if an MT has quality issues, they have had enough feedback to warrant it. I just do not think there is any place for someone that has a problem with quality.

However, the fair thing to do in my opinion is to limit reports until the quality issues have a chance to go up and then if they do not, then someone might be out the door.

You will find another job. Just try to work on your quality so this does not happen again.
So you would fire one for exercising RIGHT to free

After their email the other day about looking to fire people, I'd say …

why the water bucket being thrown on the fire
    ?
I know people there who need to be fired and they won't fire them. That just simply sm
is not true.  They are a very nice company.  They have benefits which include PTO and sick time.
can you give initials? Trying not to jump into the fire.
    nm
That's hilarious..and then when they call to fire you for not doing them..Tell them TOO LATE..
    I quit...MONTHS AGO..LOL
RadMT was trying to help. The descision to fire did not rest

This is crazy. Every week another company goes under fire. sm

I want to change from MQ to save my sanity, but every week when I check out the postings, there is another company that is being lynched.  This is a tough crowd, isn't it?  I don't know how to weed through and figure out what is hype good and bad versus what is real.  I think I would be better off spinning a wheeling or flipping a coin than trying to balance out what is true here.

Does anyone else feel this way?  Where can we go for real answers?

I would fire someone for biting the hand that feeds them

it has nothing to do with free speech but it MIGHT have something to do with defammation of character or slander, whichever is appropriate.

The email was not about looking to fire people. Yes, they are hiring. sm
The email stated that everyone must maintain certain levels for production and for QA in order to stay a Keystrokes' employee.

They were reassuring us that even in this depression or recession, or whatever it is being called now, we will have work to do and that they are still growing.

There are 2 openings on my account, so I know that they are hiring, and there is a new account starting next week too.
No its true, they will FIRE YOU after 3 days of training

...IF you dont hit 98%.  they are just unreasonable in this manner.  Totally ridiculous, like the ones firing you are not human and never had to learn anything to get WHERE THEY ARE!

My hubs retired as a fire captain. Great benefits, thank God! nm
    s
Most contracts said either party can quit or fire at any time. Would be unusual to get locked into
    s
Thought TX was "at will" employment?? or fire/quit immediately w/o reason

Notice is a courtesy, not a rule and they don't give you notice when they fire you
Giving a 2-week notice is common courtesy, and in most all my jobs, I have given them that courtesy; however, a company never gives someone notice when they are firing them. In my opinion, if a company does not treat their employees right, they do not deserve to get any notice at all.

As a matter of fact, I just left a company without notice. I felt horrible about doing it to my team but not to the company. While they never messed up on my pay, I was under constant stress. They treated several other people horribly and also changed all the terms of my employment contract within months of hiring me, which was going to cost me $800 a paycheck. I am the major breadwinner for a family of five and couldn't hang around a second longer losing that kind of money.

The only reason you would not want to quit without notice is if you want to use them as a reference and/or want the chance to go back to them in the future. I was advised by a recruiter that you should never put anything on your resume that is less than a year, so you really don't want to use them as a reference anyway, and you certainly don't want to go back to them.

Messing with someone's money is a big NO-NO, especially when they are costing you $400 for a second time. Heck no, I wouldn't give these people notice. There are some great companies out there hiring right now.

Feel free to contact me by email if you would like some more detailed information about the companies I narrowed my search down to. I was very sceptical about trusting another company with the bad luck I've had (just as you have) in the last few years, but I think I finally found somewhere I can be happy at for a long, long time (of course only time will tell, but I'm feeling very optimistic).

:) Best of luck to you!
I also know Spheris would fire you if they knew you worked for MQ. That is a BIG NO with Spheris!
    nm
    what makes them the best?
    nm
    It just makes me sad...
I love Christmas (at least what it's SUPPOSED to be like)and you're right about the commercialism ruining it. I try to avoid the mobs if I can. We've had 2 people in this area held up at gunpoint for X-box systems! Unreal! It's fun getting together and celebrating the season with family and such, but 'tis definitely the season to be greedy.
I don't think having your CMT makes you a better

MT and I've seen CMTs who did really lowsy work.  I have never considered getting my CMT.   I have always been told that I do top quality work and at companies that do pay a differential for having your CMT, I am paid the same rate.   Some people need letters after their name for whatever reason.

What makes you think KS is any
different than the company you work for? Go ahead. Check them out, but don't come back here complaining.
Can you say what makes you think this.

I don't understand why people take the time to respond to questions but they really aren't telling you anything. If you have something to say...say it.  But please only say what you know.  I'm not interested in what one 'thinks'.  If you 'know' it...let me hear it.

    Thanks.

    What makes me mad? sm
When new people get hired at a higher line rate and doing easy accounts.
What makes you so sure it is YOUR job? Maybe they just need more help

    Makes you wonder
The intro letter they send makes them sound like top professionals - and they waste no time in telling you how many fail their test.

But it makes you wonder when see *several* typo's in the materials that come with the tape - and then they are very lax with the testing process. Something tells me not getting my results was actually a favor in disguise. :)
