anybody give me the good and bad about these companies, as well as the platforms they use? I'm thinking about adding on some part-time work to compensate for the lack of work at current MTSO. I know there are a lot of companies out there, but these four seem to be discussed a lot. However, it's hard to compare them when you have to jump all around the boards to find out information. If anybody has other MTSOs besides these four that I should stay away from or definitely submit a resume to, please post that too.

Did Keystrokes sell to Transcend? I thought Keystrokes was buying up companies sm
but I heard from another service owner that they sold out to Transcend. Anyone know if that happened?

I posted this down below but meant to post it as a new thread. Before I apply with them, I would like to know as I left Transcend a few months ago and do NOT want to get back into that mess.

Transcend vs Medquist vs Spheris
I could really use some advice. I'm new here and a relatively new MT. I'm a CMT with only about 8 months exp. I accepted a job with Transcend last week with a good cpl rate. I'm in training now. I'm a little worried b/c I'm hearing mixed reviews about the company and how they are going to all edit...
Anyway, Medquist has offered me a job, but the cpl rate is 2 cents less than what Transcend is giving me. I'm not happy about that. If you were in my position, would you stay with Transcend or go to Medquist?
Also, I got an email today from Spheris that they want to interview me. I don't know what the cpl rate is yet. I have heard good things about them. Should I accept with them?
I'm so confused. I don't want to burn my bridges with Transcend b/c what if they turn out to be a decent company? I am getting a good rate with them. But Spheris seems really appealing to me...
Any advice??
My guess would be MQ, Transcend, maybe Spheris and then I don't know. nm

MQ/KEYSTROKES/TRANSCEND
I am tired of hearing about MQ. Everytime someone posts something (almost every time) it reverts to being a MQ bashing. I think if there are so many disillusioned MTs at MQ, then perhaps the Administrator needs to make a new board one for all the unhappy MQ MT's, because I know most of us are all tired of reading how unhappy the MQ MT's are, and if they are so unhappy find another job. It's not as if MT jobs cannot be found. A good MT can find a job! I have 2, with 2 different companies and I love both companies and I make good money with both companies. I work for Transcend, and think they are a great company, and also Keystrokes, and are equally as wonderful. Lee could not be nicer to work for at Keystrokes, she is honest and upfront about everything.
And if you keep your butt in the chair, you can make money! Give MQ MTs their own board please!

All input is appreciated. Need to make a decision some time today. Pros and cons for both, so looking for insight from those who have worked for either or both.

keystrokes does not use offshore help, transcend
uses it a lot- one day you have work, the next day its slim pickins' - and you are left holding no paycheck. Transcend is ruthless and cares nothing about its MLS. It is just there for the dollar and you have to slave over a horrible platform, doing more clerical functions to get far less lines. My advice is to run from Transcend - masters of deceit- as fast as you can.

I have worked for MQ, Spheris back when it was Edix, Transcend and OSI. TransTech is by far the bes
The pay is decent, probably not the highest in the business but not the lowest either. The benefits are good. Pay is always on time. Great bonuses. Great communication and most of all I really like the people and it makes me enjoy being an MT again.

Keystrokes owners turned them down as they are not interested in selling and they are against offshore transcription. They are getting as big as Transcend, maybe even bigger, and they treat their employees a heck of a lot better!

Keystrokes is not as large as Transcend but they might be in the next few years. sm
Transcend has grown because they keep buying other companies, and Keystrokes does not do that. They have grown every year and still do because of getting new accounts and keeping the accounts they have.
Keystrokes is not in the $50M range; last I heard they were at $15M and will be in the $25M this year due to new accounts. They are very open about this, and also about the fact that they do not take on too much at once just for the sake of growing. They make sure that they are ready first.
Are they the perfect company? No, but they are better than any I have worked at since YOG. I have been at Keystrokes for 3 years. They continue to improve every year and have really worked through the issues they used to have including the insurance. The first year I worked for them, they were an OK company, the second year they were good, and this third year, they are great.
I am impressed with them because they still treat their employees as if they are a small company; we are not just a number to them. I am also impressed that they give more to their employees every year instead of taking things away, like a lot of other companies are doing.
I am happy at Keystrokes, as are over 400 of us. For those that are not or did not like working there in the past, I hope you find the company that works best for you.
Different strokes for different folks, but I have found the company that is best for me and plan on staying!

Don't imply you're worried at all. Just stating fact that Spheris does NOT allow a Spheris MT
work concurrently for MQ - no exceptions. MQ, on the other hand, does not have the same feelings as Spheris. Just all I had to say so that MTs aren't misled into thinking they can do the same "legally". Even went to the ropes on this issue with Spheris, as I was professional as well, and wouldn't share info, etc. The point they raised was that MQ is their direct #1 competition, and if I was typing for MQ and doing great work, that was in direct conflict of interest with Spheris' best interests. Guess which one I obviously stuck with!!

then doesn't that make MDI a company that offshores? That's like saying that one branch of a company offshores but another does not, so they are excluded from the offshore label. If MDI-FL is part of Transcend and Transcend offshores, that means that they do.

Your hypothesis is incorrect. MDI is a wholly independent subsidary of Transcend, therefore, they were not a part of the experiment to offshore to evaluate cost/benefit ratio that Transcend only tried for 90 days (I believe the evaluation process is not still ongoing).
Only Keystrokes. Worked at MQ until I came to Keystrokes. Started at sm
Keystrokes PT, liked what I saw and experienced, gave notice to MQ and went FT. Have not look back since. I had previously worked at 2 hospitals, for MDI, Transcend and MRC until bought by MQ. I plan on retiring here as long as they stay as they are.

My experience with Spheris isn't bad at all. I have been with Spheris sm
6 months and already have 40 hours PTO. I was shocked. Spheris is a great company. After 90 days I did get my sign on bonus and didn't even have to ask. There is soooooooooooooooo much that Spheris offer I wasn't even aware of. I am so glad that I didn't listen to the negative posts on this board in regards to Spheris because I am a happy camper.
It is not Transcend. Transcend has not had control of
the accounts long enough to make any changes to anything. Maybe your account just slowed down like a lot of others did over the last few weeks. Everything will run status quo for a few months before any major changes are implemented. And give Transcend a chance. It is a good place to work and you will finally have some benefits that you will enjoy.
Been with Keystrokes staying with Keystrokes
I was there for the promises and guess what Keystrokes is making good on those promises.
I get vacation time, 401K, and even AFLAC. My pay is great, always on time as well as accurate.
I have my main account and have been given back up accounts for which I have been fully trained and am comfortable typing on. I have great leads, great tech support and plenty of work.
Am I biased??? Yes I am biased. I am grateful everyday that I was given the opportunity to work for Keystrokes and their team. I am grateful that my company's owner is a fellow Transcriptionist that goes home at the end of the day and works like the rest of us so she knows what a hard job I have and I know that she is working to make things better for me because unlike other companies I have worked for she understands what it is I do.
Please accept my apologies that you were unhappy with Keystrokes and chose to move on before all of the promises came to fruition but don't begrudge those of us that stayed loyal and are now reaping the benefits of a GREAT COMPANY WITH GREAT BENEFITS, LOTS OF WORK AND THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THERE ARE MANY MORE GREAT THINGS TO COME!

Keystrokes does not go by keystrokes, we go by lines. sm
1200 lines per day comes out to 150 lines per hour. Most transcriptionists are able to do 200-250 lines per hour, so this is not unrealistic, nor is it unreasonable. The hospital that I used to work at prior to coming to Keystrokes had a minimum of 185 lines per hour. The service I worked for prior to Keystrokes had a minimum of 200 lines per hour.
MQ vs Spheris
I worked for MQ about 5 years ago. I wouldn't recommend them. Not enough time to go into it. I understand things may have changed, but I still wouldn't recommend them. From what I've read on boards, they haven't changed.
I've been with Spheris for almost three months now and I really like it. I'm making good money working Mon-Fri and I'm not getting hounded by a supervisor for petty stuff. I enjoy working for Spheris. I say, give them a try!

They tell everyone that - not to say you are not a good MT. But I was too, but when I reapplied, they said no - I think because all their new Spheris management is installed now, the ex-Edix management is probably gone (except those who fit in with the new regime), and they just don't want to be bothered with ex-Edix people. Just my theory. At any rate, plenty of us have posted on this board, so it is obvious that most if not all of us are not being rehired.

And just how they going to get anyone's identity on here. What she is doing is NOT dishonest, It's smart because even if they do find out, she has another job to cover herself. BusyMT'ing is diong the right thing by protecting Her interests, which you have to do in this dog-eat-dog MT world. My hats off to you BusyMT'ing. You go girl. And if you really think about every MT company is competition for another MT company no matter how you look it. If one is independent, no company has any say what you do.. IC is the way to go. Yes, we will see. Spheris has only
acquired one company. Spheris was formed with the merger of Total eMed and EDiX. So, Spheris itself has only made one acquisition - HealthScribe/Acivis.
I think they have to get this acquisition settled before buying anything else and when/if they do make another purchase, I think it will be more global oriented, not US-based like MQ is. That is strictly my perspective.
OSI or Spheris
My husband came home on Friday and said he was going to be laid off soon. I am still trying to accept this and what it means to our family budget. I got a job offer from Spheris and OSi to begin in their mentor programs. I am really lost and don't know which would be better for my family. Please everyone give me the heads up on both companies. I know Spheris offshores, but have plenty of work. OSI seems to be running out of work. Which program should I choose. Both recruiters tell me their companies have plenty of work. HELP

OSI pays better than Spheris. I work at OSi on an account that runs out of work but I can make $500-600/wk...I worked for a lady locally and used to make $1000/wk on the same account, but she lost the account to OSI, and they keep a little more for themselves if you see what I mean. I know someone who worked at Spheris and only made $300-400 week, and then she made $600 wk at OSI. And let's just say her speed didn't bring her down.

It's great if you have 20 years experience and like to make 8 dollars an hour. They formulate it that way, so even if you get a raise, you get yet another pay cut. McDonalds is sounding pretty good right about now!
I like it at Spheris
It amazes me how rumors fly around here - chained to the chair? I don't think so! I take breaks when and as often as I want. No clocking in and out for breaks. I like the company and am quite happy there.
