I guess if you slam a company on here, everyone already knows you are a disgruntled ex-employee with no skills and know that there are openings available. I appreciate as we have so many new accounts coming in and just starting. I really needed the extra ICs. WOW This is awesome!!

Sorry but I wanted a job, but not with them anymore. I got a better offer and that got right back to
me. Truly, it makes no sense to say how bad they need MTs when they never bothered to contact the ones who sent back their paperwork. So, I still say they really do not need people as bad as they say. No biggie. I moved on.
sounds like SoftScript. I have some of their pedals too. Never wanted them back. Actually, sm
they were sent to me BEFORE I accepted a position from them.
ended it
If you don't think you are selling yourself cheap then what business is it of anyone else to tell you? Not mine. If you are happy with what you make that is all that matters. I understand.
But it sounds like you have benefits that would amount to a lot of money. That means a lot. Health ins. for less than $100 per month. That is worth so much. Keep bragging and letting me know how great Transtech is because you are letting me know that yes there are good MT jobs out there. That gives me hope to know there are good companies.
ended up almost 2400
So what?  You are a critical person.  So what?  Just because my post may be sloppy due to trying to hurry doesn't mean I am a bad transcriptionist.  However, your nasty post speaks volumes about what kind of person you are.
Can I ask..where you ended up?? Any other suggestions out there.

Boy, it's almost impossible to find a decent company these days..

I ended up at Transtech...sm
I am considered a rehire, so if I ever wanted to I could go back to MW, but don't see that happen, at least not at this time.
How ironic!! Game just ended. Sox won.

I did, too, but I ended up working for YOG until the Squid ate it. nm

right; and I did not quit my old job, ended up staying with my old job.

Mine ended at the end of the month, then COBRA took over. nm

Every 2 weeks on Monday. Pay period ended
this past Sunday and I will get paid next Monday, 11/12.
Who would offer such a rate if they actually ended on paying anyone that or the accounts are....
probably awful, all ESL or something. No one pays 11 cpl these days so I figured there was a catch.
Your reading comprehension is very poor. No wonder you ended up with that bridge - sm

The message is to write to your representative on your own behalf.

You must be psychic. I just ended up going on Ebay today and bought a Dell with Windows XP on it.
I originally went through Dell directly but they charged $400 more for the same computer because they were customizing it with Windows XP as now all the computer came standard with Vista. Apparently not so customized..haha.. better deals on Ebay.. I LOVE EBAY..
I wasn't there long enough, put in a 2-week notice but ended up leaving early, footpedal and last

Thank you! Just wanted I wanted to hear!
nm.
Get those resumes out.

Do not permit a company to abuse you.  You're worth way more than that.  I don't care what the excuse is, but the first sign of late pay is the first sign to find a new job.  I have no tolerance for this kind of crookery, none at all.  Best wishes...

There are tons of jobs out there for the taking.  What is a good fit for one may not be for another, and I wish you the best of luck.  I feel the larger the company the better off you are as far as timely pay, not to say that a smaller company isn't a good payer, but it seems the larger ones have more of a handle on it.

Never sign a contrast as an IC that says they'll pay you when they get paid.  That's not how to do good business.

Resumes....i am so done......sm

I have been doing MT for 13 years.  I have sent out resumes to about 10 different places.  NOT ONE ACKNOWLEDGMENT, not one reply to my emails asking whether or not the positions have been filled.

To all MTSOs who read this board...Why not just answer/reply/respond to our emails?  That is so unprofessional and this just kills any respect I ever had for any MTSO at this point.

Collecting resumes?
I don't understand why they didn't at least call you. Did you have hospital and clinic experience? Sounds like you must have as you also edited, taught, and managed. What reasons do you think they would have transcription positions for close to 5 years? Do you think high turnover or collecting resumes?
Resumes, followup, etc.
The posts keep getting removed because of names being used, even though just informational, so PLEASE email the above email.  Maybe your resume was not received.  Our recruiter is on top of calls and emails (been with us since August and has turned that around since taking it over) and if she did not respond, she did not get it or followed up and you did not get it.  If you were referred by someone please say so and please also say that you had sent it in previously.  I will make sure that she gets it.  However, I know that she does not respond to resumes without the experience necessary, offshore or students, as it says in the ads.  She gets several hundred resumes a week and although we are growing, we are very particular about who is being hired, so she automatically does not consider those who do not meet the requirements and resumes/cover letters with typographical errors.  Not trying to be rude, just stating facts.  If you meet the requirements and did not get a response, send me an email.
I don't keep resumes on file, so...
I often get people who send their resume in multiple times in response to different job postings. That being said, if the applicant doesn't have the qualifications listed in the ad, their resume goes straight to the recycle bin without a response.
Resumes and applications

I handle resumes and applications (via email) for a national company.  I would like to give some resume and application tips as I am amazed every single day at what gets sent to me with the expectation that the applicant be considered for a professional, paying position.

Please consider the following:

-- Please do yourself a huge professional favor:  Make sure your email address is professional.  It is far better to have an email address janedoe334@hotmxxxx than to have funkydoglover6@xxxx or thejoneses@xxx.  Your first and last name (even if it has to be followed by numerics) would be best and if you need numerics why not add your zip code?  Please.  You will sound responsible, mature, and serious about your professional identity.

-- Please make sure your resume is an attachment.  It is best not to embed a resume unless the application or employer specifically asks you to.  Most embedded resumes sent in emails come with all the code and I simply will not wade through it all to see if there is something there to consider.

-- When you write your resume, make sure your contact information is at the top, including an address, your phone number(s) and email address.  (I suggest you print off your resume and have someone else proof it for errors, inconsistencies, formatting issues, etc.)

-- Name your resume appropriately.  Please don't attach it simply called Resume.  It would be best to name it with your first and last name and the word Resume in caes it gets separated from your email or, better yet, if it is saved to a file without the email!!  (Example:  JaneDoeResume)

-- Please, oh please, state in the subject line what position you are applying for.  Who is interested in an applicant who cannot even take the time to state what position they are applying for?  Not me!  I doubt many are.

-- Please send one email with resume for each position you apply for.  If you apply for three positions, I can only electronically file your email/resume in one position folder and you may be overlooked when collecting folders.

-- Please make some type of statement in the email and don't just send a blank email with the resume attached.  Just a simple, Please consider my attached resume in application for XXXX position is just fine.  A summary or synopsis of your qualifications or your life's history really is not necessary in the email because we are going to study your resume for that information.  A brief cover letter-type email is fine but it should read within the single window pane without scrolling.

-- Last, but not least, please read over your email for errors (should go without saying, I know) and remember to attach your resume!  It is so much more difficult to keep up with multiple emails because the resume was left off, then you want to add another piece of information, etc.  Do not be in such a hurry that your application email shows it.  As well, if you are applying for several positions and you are doing a copy/paste of the email content, make sure you change any job position titles within the email appropriately.

I really hope you will find this information useful -- I know for all the individuals who handle this information on the incoming will certainly make note of an outstanding resume/email application and sometimes that extra, Hey, this applicant has done a great job in presenting herself thus far can go a long way!

Sent resumes twice and never heard from them. nm

They have probably been overwhelmed with resumes since

they have been discussed so much lately.  I sent a resume and was offered a position without testing within just a few days of submitting it.  I accepted the position and they said it would take  1 to 2 weeks to get all the paperwork done, equipment, and get clearance from the account to access their system.  I ended up not accepting the position so not sure how long it would really take to get going.

I only heard from 1 out of 5 resumes I sent out
nm
Oh please, if you weed through the BS resumes
potential candidate! I was a recruiter for about 4 years and you should be able to read a resume in about 30 seconds before you want to consider that candidate.
They have been inundated with resumes lately
Please e-mail them again or call the office if you don't hear from them soon though.
Are they accepting resumes? sm

I used to work for them about 2 years ago on acute care and had to quit because everything they had required high speed internet and I only had dialup at the time.  I now have high speed and would be interested in working on one of their radiology accounts.  What are the line requirements for radiology?  Where would I apply?  There is no place on their website to apply.  Thanks.

On past resumes I have put...

Available on request in the Reason for Leaving box.  I had a past boss who was verbally abusive (not Oh, he hurt my feeling because he said I was working slow or something...I mean truly abusive) and I have used the Available on request in that box for that particular job many time and have been asked what the situation was before, but have never been treated like this was a strange way to handle the Reason for Leaving box.  I have also completley omitted this job for certain resumes.

My sincere condolances on the passing of your father.

Put about 20 resumes out on different MT job sites
Waited for someone to contact me and they did. It will happen eventually. You need to be specific with what you want and don't want. It's an everyday chore until you get the offer that best suits you.
Personally I think they "bank" resumes
in case they happen to get something that calls for an MT to travel, but I have sent at least 3 to them in the past 2 years and never heard a peep out of them.  Either they have a ton of people to call on or they don't get that many of these opportunities.
They have our resumes, see our work during testing and
moron
Oh, I fact check their resumes. And you are right..
Many do lie like crazy on resumes, or at least exaggerate. That isn't even specific to MT, but IMO, it happens more in MT. A lot of MTSOs probably don't check before hiring and that's a bad habit to get into. I got burned one time and that's all I needed so I know check it all! It doesn't take long to make a few phone calls and it saves a lot of time and heartache and hassle later.

That is why I really frown on job hopping. If they hit the ground running every time there's a slow period, I'm not interested. Slowdowns are part of the territory (and I'm not talking MQ-scale slowdowns, just the usual ones..lol) and I don't want someone jumping ship every time we hit one.

That being said, I do realize that some people have many jobs listed due to circumstances beyond their control and I do take that into consideration. It's usually fairly easy to spot the ones who just hop for the sake of hopping as opposed to the ones who hopped around for a bit just trying to find their niche.
Anyone else sending out resumes and hearing nothing?
I have 16 years in the business and 4-5 years editing experience, but am just not hearing back from companies advertising on the boards.  Maybe they are receiving 100s of resumes...or is it just me?  Anyone know of a company looking for an editor, please email me.  Thanks!
I've also been sending out resumes and not
I've heard back from a few places wanting me to test and often don't even hear back after the test! I have over 17 years of experience and I can't be doing THAT bad on tests. I think it is probably that they are being inundated with responses.

To be honest, I do not expect a response from every single company I send my resume to. I do expect to hear back from a company once I've tested for them when it is at their request, however! I've hired before and know that when you get scads of emails, many from the same people over and over again, it gets hard to keep track of sending out I got your resume emails. If I emailed someone and asked them to test, though, I would most certainly let them know one way or the other.

I recently tested for a company that I had heard good things about and then never heard one word again. Not even that they received my test files back. I decided right then and there I wouldn't work for them anyway because that's just rude. It takes time out of our day to test and to not hear back--when they requested it--is pretty lame, IMO.
Jax probably got 100s of resumes. Did even 1 MT get a reply

TT web site not accepting resumes?
Hey y'all, just tried to send TT my resume by using their website resume sender lol I tried sending it on IE (gave me a 404 error) and on Netscape (it just sat there). Anybody have an email address I can send it to? Thanks! JC
I used to work for a national and when we ran an ad, we would get 200-300 resumes. sm
These all came at once, so it was a little time-consuming to get through them. Email or call because the squeaky wheel does get the grease!
Great suggestions! I know many believe that their resumes SM

should be five pages long and reflect every single job they've ever had, but the truth is when trying to get an MT job, only your MT work history is relevant, and work history is only relevant once you've landed the interview.  Your resume should highlight your skills relevant to the position applying, any industry related organizations you belong to, etc.

Having said that, I created a separate document where I keep a complete list of every single medical transcription job I have held starting with the very first one.  I list company name, address, phone number, supervisor, and dates employed.  I created this document because when I went back to work for an actual hospital, their offer was based on years experience and I was told to provide them with everything MT job I've ever had so they could make the best possible offer.  So I now keep this document updated always just in case, but it never goes out with my resume and it only goes out when and if I am told my years experience has direct bearing on what kind pay they offer.

If an MTSO requests a references, I provide them with my three more recent employers and three personal references.  If they want proof of my 20 years experience, I happily provide them with my complete list.

Back in the stone ages when I was in high school, I took a course at the vo-tech school called office occupations.  It was taught by this little old fashioned lady who believed a woman should always wear a skirt and heels to work and fetch her boss coffee.  My teacher did, however, provide me with some useful tips that are still relevant today as far as resumes go.  She said your resume should only be one page long and its only purpose is to get you an interview.  It should grab a persons attention and make them want to know more.  So never give away too much info on the resume.  Your ultimate goal should always be a personal face to face or phone to phone (in today's world) meeting.

Anyway, that's my rambling for the evening.

Flooding of resumes on job posts

Sent a couple of resumes recently and getting an automatic answer from several companies that due to the influx of so many resumes, it will be impossible to even see them all.  If I have more than 3 years' experience it will be kept in the file for 6 months until they get to it.

The most recent automatic answer I got was from a company which did not even put an ad out.  It was one where I found great posts on another board after doing a lot of archive searching.

Is this because of recent MQ paycuts and problems, and because C-bay bought it out.  Perhaps the time has come for the work pool to be flooded with more competition if the giant of MQ is finally seeing a walk-out.  Also, the other biggies like Spheris and Transcend seem to be losing a lot of people.

Anybody have any idea on this? Not only do we have the influx of new graduates, and now the really experienced hospital MTs who have been with MQ for so long, but we also have India too... are the odds growing less that our resumes will even be seen, I wonder...

I just hope that all the MQ people and everyone here in the US finds a good home and soon. We all deserve a good job and I just wonder how we will get through this time.  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, or just a good we are all in this together post would be appreciated.

Yikes! Send resumes out right away. Try some of
I suggest Transtech. They are hiring, and are safe! E mail them and follow up with a call. You need a job! Please consider this a good thing because if the job that just did this would fire you like that on a whim, they are not worth working for, but I assume you have bills to pay!! Please try sending your resume quickly to a couple of reputable companies like Transtech. I can't think of any other. I used to work for MDI-MD but can't recommend them anymore. So many I can say don't send to... but I can recommend TT. Please try the best you can to get on board somewhere ASAP! We are out here pulling for you... and once you are settled let us know you are okay!
They never respond to emails, resumes, etc.

the circle game of resumes and ads

Same old ads, same old resumes.  Nothing is going to change, people.  We are stuck with each other.

Happy Labor Day.  Or should I say Groundhog Day?  If you catch my drift.....

If their ad is gone, they probably got swamped with resumes & aren't hiring. nm
s
Why send resumes? Take the online tests.
Most of these outfits have online tests. You'll hear back a lot quicker, I'm sure.
resumes do not take that long, especially when you have had only 1 job..make it with your word sm
processor and send.
I'm not sending resumes but a few months ago I posted my
resume on a couple of job boards and didn't hear from anyone.  I am not currently looking for a job and have had 2 companies contact me in the last week.  I have 20 years' experience in acute care and can do ESLs.  I was really surprised that I didn't hear from anyone for several months.
Those Dunkin Donuts type of resumes
get ditched. I usually will write the MT and ask them if they forgot the part about the MT work they did. Then I tell them that I do not need to know about any other work experience other than MT. Most of the time, you do not get a response back because they have never done MT!
MBB Transcription. Is it true that they are just gathering resumes for OSI?
