and it is time that we become realistic in the workplace. Come on, let's all be honest and realistic. People are human beings with real needs. Companies need to stop pretending people don't get sick, don't need time off to take care of personal matters or family, and in the field of transcription, we just need to address the issue of sitting at the computer using three of our senses continuously for hours on end. And yes, companies must operate efficiently and effectively in order to be successful and profitable, and need consistency from their workers. So what to do? Look at some highly praised and innovative companies that are highly successful and profitable all the while having a realistic view on life and their employees. For instance, Patagonia, the outdoor sportsware company is a shining example for companies to model. I realize it does not have the same urgency and seriousness as medical transcription, but one should look them up and see how they do things. They address emergencies, time off, incentives, cooperation, motherhood, sickness, problems at work, and guess what? People are literally lined up begging for a job there. People actually love going to work there and rarely ever quit. Because they practice what they preach and it all starts with management modeling behavior If you talk to any one employee, they will do anything for their boss because they are considered. There are many other companies like this. You just have to look for them. There are a lot of jobs in transcription because the pay is going lower and lower, and the frustration for the owners of companies is growing and growing. If outsourcing is not the answer for these companies, then perhaps innovation and a dramatic change is needed to attract and retain good transcriptionists.
