Serving Over 20,000 US Medical Transcriptionists

What are we, machines?!?!?! Assimilate or become obsolete, BAH!

MTs should realize medical transcription is a speciality field.  Some of us can be considered as experts in intrepreting and understanding the medical language.  We are also grammatical experts as well, masters of the English language as well.  Yet this trend to VR is completely degrading to our skill level and our dedication to this profession.  Some of us have been MTs for 20 or more years.  We have taken pride in work, our knowledge, and our expertise.  Now, here we are being totally disrespected after all our hard work and years of service.  We are being replaced by a software program that lacks the ability to think!  Apparently, 4 cpl is the going rate for the ability to think.

Personally, I think the physicians and administrators at the medical facilities should see a VR report without the benefit of human editing.  Let some reports go through the VR server and directly to the facility.  Let the dictators take the time to correct their VR reports themselves.  See how time consuming it is, how much work goes into producing a coherent, professional document.  Maybe they'll realize what we do is worth far more than 4 cpl.  Heck, it's worth far more than 8 cpl in my opinion!

Amen to that...Assimilate or become obsolete
Every large, reputable company will be going to VR eventually. We either have to learn to roll with it and adapt or seek careers elsewhere.

As the poster below said, this is the era of electronics and technology, and we can only hope for the best during the transition.

When so many MTs posting are without a job and desperately seeking any halfway decent, paying job they can find, I'm not going to complain.

MDI-MD has always been good to me, and I'll give this a fair shot before hitting the panic button.

Assimilate? What are we worker drones. Next thing you know
will only be given time to regenerate at the hive before we continue to assimilate others and continue to do the Queen's bidding. Is this perfection?
MDI like the Borg-assimilate or else-be glad you didn't. nm

Difference in machines

Can anyone tell me the difference in a C-phone and a Lanier 219?  I have found a listing for a DA-128 that can be used with a few different systems.  Does that include the Lanier system?  I am interested in finding the Lanier XL 219-1 with VTI but I can't believe the prices.  I guess actually I can but I want to know if there is a system out there that is compatible or if I need to specifically get the Lanier.

Thank you everyone for your help in advance.  If there is no compatible system, does anyone have one for sale?

Have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

Look on eBay...that is where I got my 2 fax machines
brand new...$15 each. They are both Panasonics and almost brand new. I have one in my office, and my husband has one in his.
Your OT goes into slot machines, that's why.

Transcribers are the people. The machines do not
.
Why, I thought they were these indispensible machines

WE'RE ALL JUST SUBHUMAN TYPING-MACHINES.

i.e. Resistance is futile. Assimilate. Resistance is futile.
Become a drone or die.

(on that note, my preference would be die... maybe there ain't no beer in heaven, but I am sure there is no poverty there or droning either!)
