I don't think it is Ex-Text that makes it hard to get lines, it is the way the company has Dictaphone set up the line count on their web site. But why work for a company you have to contantly make copies of your reports and reverify the line counts to make sure they are not cheating you? We are not paid enough to spend another hour at the end of the day to double check your line counts. You can do that and then fight with them but believe me they are going to win because they hold all the horses.

You can get your line count counting by the Word program counter within the program itself by clicking on tools and then scrolling down to word count, however, this is not how ExText lines are counted. There is about a 20-30% difference per report LESS with their way of counting. The company sets the way they count lines and they don't match up. Also, the sessions function in the program is BLOCKED. You have to go to the Dictaphone website to get a total line count, but no break down of how many reports or how many lines it counted for each report. Even using a word Expander program and typing as fast as you can, I think the average person can probably only make 800-1000 lines or less per 8 hour day on this system, may even have to work longer to accomplish this much. I myself am worn out and totally disgusted that a company would call itself anything less than a big cheat and shame on them!! I am moving on out and believe me as soon as I find something else, I will blast this company on every board I can find.

The company that I work for says that you cannot have two versions of Ex-Text on your computer.

Transciption Relief Services (TRS) does not do VR. They have decent accounts, no pay issues, good benefits except the medical insurance decuctible is a bit steep ($1000) good communication and grew a lot during the year I was there. I left recently over some personal issues. They were set for new accounts over the summer. When I left a month ago, they were a bit low on work, but not as bad as some. Still, I think it might be worthwhile to check out their website since they don't always advertise.
Beyond Text
Does anyone who has used Beyond test find that it is extremely slow, even the ASR is slow add to that an ESL and your almost at a dead stop? Please tell me how it is for the rest of you???????????????????

I will be more than happy to tell you. I more than doubled my line count with VR and still did not come out ahead. I would rather type it myself using my ShortHand and templates (much slicker). VR cannot figure out what ESLs are saying any better than I can, in fact a lot worse! Also, the other day, I had a 33-minute report (most of it instrumental music). If you can believe this, the VR typed paragraphs of jibberish for the music, just unbelievable? If doctors knew what their reports looked like before we edit them, they would come unglued. Instant text and OSI
When I was there about six months ago, I used IT and it worked fine. You need an expander to make any money there....and still not easy to make with the system/amount of demographics you have to enter.

I use Instant Text with EXText without a problem.
I believe the EXText software is better than some, and certainly better than DocQScribe.
I think the pay is fair -- the more difficult accounts are paid at a higher rate.
The real problem with OSi is running out of work due to overstaffing, even with backup accounts. The flip side is the bonus program for high production when the account falls behind. Seems like am employee stability problem for some reason I can't figure out.

All I can say is that I have Instant Text and it has interfaced with every kind of platform I've ever connected it with. Never have had any trouble with it whatsoever.
Question about Beyond Text
At first I had a pedal that was a 15-pin that I hooked to a game controller adapter to make it a USB. It worked okay for about 2 days. Then I lost my sound so MDI sends me another 15-pin pedal and a sound card to install so I wouldn't have to use the adapter. Well I get the sound card in and install drivers after cutting off my onboard sound card. I have sound okay until I open up the DA player that Beyond Text uses. Then I lose sound and have to reinstall drivers. It happens every time the DA player is opened up. Anyone else experienced this problem? I don't know what to do now. Technical support couldn't seem to get the sound back the other day before they sent the sound card and I have put in a ticket but was just wondering if I am the only one with this problem.

I'm trying to use Instant Text.
I also have the the Saving Keystrokes book, but am so busy, don't have time to check it all out. I used to do macros back before Windows was born, but now cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to do any that work.
Hopefully, when the work is a bit more caught up, I can spend some time with the book.

Ex-Text question, please. If you have to keep it at 100% (sm)
how do you get past the point that the print is a little smaller than you are used to. I do wear trifocals with the middle part set for computer screen usage, now I feel strained to see this print. These glasses are about 3 months old. Don't really want to have them replaced for that.
Everything else I access on the computer is fine, it is just the document on there. If I change it to higher than the 100% it is great, but then you have to remember to change it back.
Any ideas?

and I really do love it. The only thing I have ever typed before were tapes and a Dictatphone system over the phone with a local hospital group. I like the dictators for the most part, they have weeded out the extremely difficult ones and given them to people trained on those so even if I don't know the speciality I can still type the accounts with no problem. I was told that if I wanted to I could train on speech recognition in the future. I understand not wanting to switch to another account, it was just a thought. Have a great day!

Hi, I work on the MGH account but I do outpatient as opposed to inpatient and it is the EXText platform.
Again, I wasn't trying to get anyone upset about suggesting crosstraining, I was just wondering. What do you work on ?

I tried that with Dragon, too. Major waste of time and money. If only I had bought Instant Text then, instead of Dragon. The best way to make money in this business is to become the absolute master of Instant Text. In less time than it takes to INSTALL Dragon, you will be using Instant Text with ease. My productivity increased massively the very first hour! It's a great investment. I really, really need to reduce the mileage on my wrists, so I decided to give IT a shot, and it's working!

Any MDI-MD MTs using Instant Text? I need help (sm)
Okay, when I use Instant Text in Bayscribe, it will not capitalize after the colons, and this is so irritating. Does this do this to you? Also, for some reason, sometimes it will capitalize after a period and sometimes not. There seems to be a glitch. I called tech support at Instant Text and I updated with the latest revision but it is still sporadically not capitalizing after the periods. I have both Bayscribe and Instant Text set to capitalize after a period. Are any of you having this problem? It is costing me a bunch of time and not to mention causing a lot of frustration.

I purchased IT from another MT on this forum and I love it! She sold it to me for $95, plus $5 shipping, so that was around $85 off the retail price. I always buy my software this way, and I check ebay also.
I like IT because most of the macros (glossaries) are already pre-loaded, versus having to make every one yourself. It will also continue sentences and you pick the right phrase, or you can customize your glossaries. It takes a little time to learn it all because it does so much, but it is worth the investment, in my opinion.

InstantText has a forum you can go to to address this problem as I have just recently had this very same thing happen to me. I only resolved it when I went to the link provided in the form to download a revision of IT Pro.

anything you have saved in MS word version 2003 is completely compatible. Instant Text version 3 and 5 are compatible. i believe that smart type version 4 is compatible as well. any version of pc ShortHand also works well.

That is exactly what I thought. I work hard and I am making so much less money of course I do hard ESLs most of the time. The platform is easy but I find it is extremely slow and hard to get more than 1200 lines in an 8 hour shift. At other places, I was over 2000-2600. I'm not sure exactly why that is? Thank you for validating me!

I still have not heard from anybody who was very productive in text making more money in speech. If the clients are going to save money on speech recognition, somebody has to lose, don't they?

Are you on the email group for Instant Text? If so I just sent out an email today with some commands. You can reply to that so I know your email at work. I think since you are on Chartmatrix, you might not be in that email group. You can do reply by email here but I actually have an older email on here-- but tell me you are emailing me and I will check that one. Just trying to get around putting my email on the board here, know what I mean?
Administrator...I have text set for largest, but
...have to keep the settings in control panel as is for my job. The text is awfully small. Would there be any other way to enlarge it, or do I have to make-do?
I love the site and the changes, too, just find it rather small. Unfortunately, on my end, I can not change any other settings, and the +/- does not work for me, either.

Does anyone out there using Instant Text have problems with it? I have used IT for years and recently upgrade to Pro Version 5.23, using with WP 12 and Word 2000. Just within the last couple of months I have been having trouble with IT just unlinking itself with WP or Word, whichever I'm using. I swear I'm not doing anything but just typing away; I'll type a shortcut and it won't expand and I'll notice that IT has unlinked itself. I have written to IT and they have basically told me they don't know what's wrong, that it must be my computer. I've gone on their website and upgraded the fix for WP 12 users and all and I'm still having that problem. Another problem I'm having (and I'm sure there's got to be a setting that I don't know about) is that when I go online to research something (while I'm working/typing MT stuff or whatever), IT will automatically link itself to the internet, etc. Anybody have any suggestions to help me out? Thanks, I appreciate any help. Maybe it IS my computer, but if anybody else has had this problem please let me know if you and how/if you were able to fix it. Thanks again.

Try www.worldstart.com and ask one of their techs in the message board if they can help you. This site is great for all kinds of computer problems. They have helped me quite a few times and it is free. They also will tell you if you want to know the best antivirus, popup blocker, etc to use and most of them are free. Good luck.

It has the capability to link to any program you have running, even email, so while I've never tried it with IChart, it's worked with every program I've ever run.

Does Nuance own Dictaphone? Is Ex-Text solely a Dictaphone platform? Is Nuance also an MTSO--do they hire MT's directly?
