Why are all these companies forcing VR at half rate? Are they losing money?

Cut in pay/bounced checks/losing money
I have worked for this company for quite a while now. I have been very happy with them, until recently when they decided that they were going to cut my pay and other hardworking people's pay by 10% because they are losing money. They have had these accounts that they are losing money on for 3+ years and are just now realizing they are losing money. I have also had more than 1 of my paychecks to bounce. Beware!
MT work losing money daily
With the no raise and line count these services pay, 1 report with a difficult ESL doctor who makes a lot of money can end up with the TX making 3/hr. Illegal aliens make more so hospitals seem to hire interpreters now at 50/hr or more and thick accented doctors seem to not care to learn English and the Transcriptionist leaves holes for Editor - if someone else feels like learning their language - be my guest, but I have to feed a family and make some money in this dying paid profession. If I received 50/hr or 12 cpl, I would try to decipher but for 4 years .0825 and I cannot. I am not an interpreter. Starting to hate my job lately. No money. I see illegals with cell phones, nice apartments and yet they won't learn English and I struggle working 14 hours a day or more just with maybe a little food. The job is not an easy one but the pay is less than picking fruit in a field.
Plus, your line rate is up to half of what it
would be transcribing and there are so many corrections since the machine has no brain like a human does and spits out all kinds of crazy things. It wastes one's timI with all of the correcting. I feel it is INDEED a big threat.
We're not even getting half rate.
Our company is going totally VR on all accounts and we're going to 3.5 cpl.  Adding insult to injury is that the accounts haven't been on VR yet, so we get to train the system.  I don't plan on staying long.
When their line rate is cut in half because they are so productive, then what. They have said that
x
I had a typo. That should read..I do NOT make half the rate, etc.

I work for a nat'l as an employee, and my PTO rate is now HALF of what I actually earn working. S

TransTech accounts are ALL very quickly going to VR and pay is half line rate

If you like VR and the pay cut, then TT will be a good fit for you.  If you are experienced and will let someone pay you less than you are worth, then go for it.

Other than accounts going to VR there and MT pay cut for editing VR reports, TT has been a good fit for me.  I am very disappointed in the recent VR pay cuts.

They are changing platforms and cutting our line rate in half as the accounts go live with VR.

If half of these companies were worth
a rat's butt, there would be no need to hop.

I hopped right into a fine job paying 14 cpl, so I say hop away.
No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.

ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.

Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!

This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
What is their VR rate? I am sure you will be training VR. Can't make money that way.

Why is pay rate confidential? It is YOUR money that YOU made with YOUR hard work. You should be

About money, line rate is one thing, but hourly figures are another sm
Traditional: 8.5 cents per line. Top out at 225. $19.25 an hour.

Speech: 4.5 cents per line. Top out at 500. $22.50 an hour.

I split between the two and right now, that is running $700 a week or $36K a year. Not a huge salary, I know, but more than I made 10 years ago.

Could I push harder? Sure, but I don't need the money because I have structured my life so that I only need 1/2 my income to live on and I live alone. I like the part about not being exhausted on my days off, about being able to give up a terrible PT job, and having time to paint AND be able to have expensive, high-quality art supplies.

I am happy as a clam and I do not think that VR will take my job!!!! My only worry right now is that my painting is taking off with art shows, commissions and internet sales. I won't be able to work full time as an MT if this keeps up, and I know it will. I love being an MT and when it ends in favor of my artwork, I will be joyous over one and very much saddened over the other. It is and has been a wonderful career for me.

The only thing you are doing is forcing the
MTSO to outsource because you think you're worth more than they are paying. The MTSO's have to make a living too to stay in business, and if they can't then more and more work will be outsourced overseas - not keeping it here in the USA. They have an obligation to the client to get the work done on time whether you like it or not.If the MTSO charges too much the client WILL look elsewhere (and even overseas) to keep the cost down - like it or not.
They are forcing the whole company to go SR

They've been testing SR on Chartmatrix.  They have proclaimed it a success.  They are going to implement it on every account they have starting in 2 weeks.  They are going to simultaneously cut the rates they pay SR to supposedly stay competitive.  So we are being forced to go SR company-wide, which would ALREADY be a pay cut, but this is double-whammy pay cut because they're lowering SR pay BEFORE they force us to go SR.

REMARKABLE?  You can bet their Karma will be, sooner rather than later.

Is there still money with any of these companies? (nm)

They receive money from companies
xx
Too many companies invested money in VR, and they are going to make
sure they can use it, no matter what. So even if it can only type if, and and the correctly, it will be put into VR and the poor MT that has to straighten that garbage out will be paid a big fat amount of around 4 cpl. These companies are the greediest bunch I have ever seen. None of them are worth the ground they sit on.
Most companies going to VR, so not just a TT thing. -- more money in their pockets, less in ours.

Regretfully true, but there is NO WAY an MT can earn as much doing editing because you can't make twice as much for a long time after the machine gets to understanding the doctor.  DocQScribe's editing platform is the only one that I have seen that was MT-friendly.  Great money to be made on that platform, but as with all editing platforms, another new doctor comes onboard and the machine has to get to know his voice, so another slow down in editing.

It is definitely NOT a gain to the MT.  Why do you think these companies would be changing over to VR/editing ????

Yea, you left out the fact that nobody is forcing you to work where you do...find a better job if

Companies (not just MTSOs) have 90 days to put the money into 401k accounts. sm
It has to be done by the end of the 90 days. My husband's runs about 89 days and he is not an MT. He is a union electrician.
Rate Companies

I'm reading good things about

MDI, WebMedx, Keystrokes and OSI.  Someone with knowledge, please rate on a scale of 1-5, 5 being best for pay and MT friendly.

Thanks in advance

Not all companies pay 1/2 rate. get over it.

Do you think the companies can ask for a rate sm
increase every year from the hospital and clinics they service? No. As a former small owner, I can tell you I wanted to give raises but simply was not able to b/c the clients would not pay more. It's esp hard in this economy to keep up.
Oh, they make money off us. Line rate is 17 cents a gross line.nm

Webmedx and other companies. What pay rate for VR? (sm)
I work for MQ now and they pay 70% of your regular transcription line rate for voice recognition/editing.  Just wondering about Webmedx and any other companies.  Thanks in advance.
Who are the good companies that do ASR and pay a decent rate?
I have been an MT a long time - 19 yrs and I am interested in learning ASR, but I need to get informed and rate, companies, realist expectations on lph, etc.  If you can help me out and share your knowledge, I would really appreciate it.  TIA.   I am going to try to line my e-mail in here, so you can e-mail me if you would like.
companies that do not post line rate...
In some of these postings (I'm talking mostly about the big nationals here), the recruiters spend LOTS of time talking about what they have to offer but are noticeably silent about line rate. If a company has so much to offer, it should be proud of the line rate it is offering. It always seems like they are trying to rope me in in some way & then will spring the bad news on me once they have a captive audience, like a bunch of used car salesmen.

If I don't see a line rate next to pay/compensation I just substitute embarrassingly low & move on to the next listing.

I've had the thought that the listings should be divided into Big National and MTSO --- and within that, willing to show line rate and not willing to show line rate.

Anyone else?
You are aware that other companies pay a flat ASR rate? sm
Some pay as low as 2 to 2.5 cpl for ASR editing. With Webmedx your rate is based on your pay - and some MTs are making considerable productivity increases (40% and above) using Webmedx ASR, so they are actually making as much as straight transcription.
Note post on main board re: MTIA forcing credentialing. Can we say police state?
??
Lots of companies pay 1.5 times line rate

for holidays, but unless you work all day it doesn't add up to much.  My company pays for us to take the day off and then if you work you get your line rate, plus get paid anyway, or you can take another day off in the same pay period.

which companies pay fair line rate with designated accounts? nm

Amherst so we make less money and they get more money for MQ and bigger bonuses. Our guidelines came
from Amherst.
The company takes the money out of your salary, before they cut the check. It is your earned money,

yep, gotta spend money to make money. NM

So does yours. Perhaps you need a basic money class to learn to keep money. sm
I am off today and appalled at reading the posts on here.

Are you always this bitter? Do you have a family and friends who are safe and healthy? Count your blessings instead of being so angry and you might see that this is not a bad field to be in. It has kept food on my table for 27 years and will continue to do so. Is it harder now? You bet, but it is not impossible to make a good living of $50,000. You just have to work hard, give it your all and appreciate the good companies that are out there.

If I were an MTSO, I would find out who all these people posting such bitter posts are and find replacements for them a.s.a.p. Negativity spreads like poison, and with the world in the state it is, we should bond together not make it worse.
Money is not the root of all evil, the LOVE of money is. nm

I am not losing anything as those
do not apply to me.
So after losing all that, what did you do? nm

for MQ STAT employees tier rate applies to ME rate as well and how calcluated?
for a STAT MQ employee:  Does anyone know if the tier rate is going to be applied to the ME rate as well or are they going to go with the 80% of the MT rate for each tier level?  If the tier rate doesn't apply as well to the ME rate then going by the 80% of the MT rate is less than if the tier rate would be applied.  I'm sure that MQ is going to go by whatever keeps money in their pockets.  Guess this is a question for the supervisor tomorrow.
They are losing their credibility, though.
We started that new account just a month ago and already fighting for work. I cannot do this anymore. I cannot be tied to my computer all day long just to get my line counts in. Does anyone know a good place to start with companies?
Losing account
Do you work for the company whose name starts with F? Have you received info on a new account yet?

I was very panicked last week when I got this news. I have settled down a little bit now, but also I have started looking.
they are probably losing accounts or going to VR..sm
Have the attitudes of people in the office changed for the better? I remember the nastiest dispositions I have ever encountered in this business.

Good luck in your job search.
You have posting so much you seem to be losing it now
You are saying with a trust fund you would be able to make money on VR. Have you taken your medication today? Run along and say nite-nite to the grownups.
It's a losing battle
Or, at least, it has been for me. I got off on the wrong foot with QA where I am now and it has been drudgery ever since. Yeah, I was right in what I said and they were wrong or at least were not 100% right (a judgment call type of thing) but since then I get the crappy work, I get nitpicked on everything, and I think I am tagged 'the troublemaker' in general. I dread working now. Unfortunately, in this situation, if you stand up for yourself with QA you end up losing either way. You lose for the points being marked off and you lose for getting that label right out of the gait.
I'm not losing out; I have had my own accounts for
they aren't going to get anything better than they had with MDI.  Just not gonna happen.  Not everyone has the ability (opportunity, connections, know how, experience) to get their own accounts.  I feel fortunate that it has come easily to me.  I loved MDI but left because I made more with my own accounts.  If not for those accounts, though, I would have definitely stayed with MDI.  If i were with MDI now, in the situation today, I don't know what I would do...
Their line rate was less than my current nat'l rate, even with mucho experience. nm

VR rate is 1/2 rate of traditional typing,I believe it is 4 cents line.

I'm sorry the Heartland MTs are losing their jobs, but
why the outrage over offshoring.  They knew HL offshored work, yet they continued to work for the company.  Is it just know that you are losing your jobs that all of a sudden it matters that they offshore?
