Yeah, if you want to look up demographics that are impossible to understand, & get paid for

If you don't mind being nit-picked to death and QA'd into the ozone, go for it.

Yeah, and do you have to fill out a bunch of demographics
and garbage without being paid for typing it all when it takes longer than typing the actual report?
Demographics are paid for.
You are paid for the demographics - you should clarify that.   I always check demographics - are you relying on the physicians to key it in correctly?  I think to take pride in our work, we do have to check demographics, even though 95% of the time they should be correct.  If you are not getting matches most of the time, it could be a technical problem
I have to do plenty of demographics. Did not realize I wasn't being paid for them. Am not surpris
It does depend on your acct,as you have said. nm.
Yeah I understand $25,000.00
Maybe typing a few hours in the morning.  I could probably make $25,000.00 a year only working on Monday and Tuesday.  I guess if you consider that decent then you just do.  I consider decent money more than $25,000.00 per year that's for sure.  I consider $25,000.00 per year average for a part-time job not so much decent.  JMO.
Understand how you are being paid
Make sure you understand how you are being paid.  Is it be character, line, page, report, minute of dictation or something else?  Do you have a way of knowing where you stand at any particular time in your shift?  Are you paid for filling in demographics, headers/footers, what is already included in templates or standards and what is in macros (company provided or ones you make yourself)?  Are you paid for spaces?  Is there a shift differential?  Are you paid extra for working holidays?  If there are bonus plans or incentive plans (quality, difficulty, production or something else), do you understand how they work and what you can reasonably expect to make?  If they have voice recognition, is the pay for working on those reports different (usually less)?  You should not need to win the Nobel Prize in economics to be able to figure out your paycheck.
I don't understand your post. Why don't you get paid
nm
I think what she is saying is that if mgmt were paid by the line, they would understand our position
When you depend on your paycheck to pay the bills and it varies from week to week, it can really cost you if there is no work or low work volumes.
Yeah but we aren't doctors and we don't get paid a lot so there nm
mmmldskfjsladkjaf
yeah, but wouldn't you really like your holidays paid in addition to PTO? sheeeesh
xx
Yeah, be careful. I worked for MTSO that "said" they paid for spaces. I had to work really S

hard for my lines.  Took a second job part-time with hospital, same platform (EXText), same font size, etc. and did the same amount of lines in half the time.  Decided to look closer at the MTSO and found out they weren't counting spaces.  I confronted them and all of sudden.  Got lots of apologies and will add to your next paycheck.  Long story short, never happened and I never had any work after that.

There are a lot of unscrupulous MTSOs out there.  They lie, cheat, and steal!

At over 10 cpl, it is not impossible!
x
It is not impossible. I do it every day.
I have never hard trouble meeting the minimum line requirement and I've been there 7 years. My lines have fluctuated sometimes when I have to do work that I'm not familiar with. However, I have very nice line counts most of the time.

Impossible...nm
nm
Just say NO. At 3 cpl, it's impossible
to make $20/hr unless you just rush through and send garbage... VR takes too much correcting for them to be paying so little! GEEZ.
It is almost impossible to do unless you have MTs that are guiding you. sm
You will not have the know-how about work flow, QA, TAT, etc that is necessary. Find an MTSO that is willing to help you with pricing, pay, etc. We are all pretty much the same. You can email me if you want or try one of the mid-size companies. I am actually much smaller than what you are taking on, with only 28 employees. You might want to partner up with one of the mid-size ones to make it run smooth. Worth a try if nothing else.
Because the ones at OSi are full of ESLs that are about impossible...nm
z
It is nearly impossible to do a comparison when posts
which even mention brand x, with no discussion involved, are restricted or removed. I think at one time or another most of us have worked there.
Doing our job is stressful, but being perfect is impossible....
There is such a thing has high expectations, but when it goes beyond that.....
if it's an impossible report for one to do, then it should go to someone more familiar with the d
x
Does anyone else find it near impossible to follow

I'd getting dizzy.  I can't seem to be able to follow who is replying to which comment.  I think I am in the right place, but then the comment below doesn't make sense with the comment above it. And I think people are getting upset because the response does not match the comment and someone thinks they are being dissed.  Sometimes it looks like they are agreeing with something but then when you read the rest they are actually disagreeing.  Sometimes when I post I think it will end up below one post and it ends up below someone elses. Is it just me?  Or maybe when there are this many replies people should just stand back, let it drop, and not provoke anyone else by accidently having a reply end up in the wrong place.

Yes and you'll go broke. Impossible

You'll spend 30 minutes on a report trying to decipher the horrible dictators and you'll be lucky if you make 30 lines in that time.

impossible? its 127 lines/hour.
nm
No, it is not impossible. I get 11 cpl and work M-F days, IC status. nm
x
Sorry. I know our QA people have to have so many reports done per hour and it is almost impossible
to do that plus all the other things put on them besides so a lot got sick of the stress and quit. They have monthly reviews to do as well so they are constantly stressing so who knows how the quality holds up for QA as well as MT. Seems like quality is secondary anymore to low cpl and the amount you can throw out. Hospitals that I always thought were fussy are now sending work offshore.
Something to think about. Making it impossible for those of us that do NOT mislead anyone will forc
Why are transcriptionists making it nearly impossible for us to find good, reliable, loyal employees? One more reason to consider offshore employees. They NEED to work to eat and SURVIVE. They do not pull temper tantrums or try to pull a fast one.

I have 8 employees that I treat well but I do not doubt that all but 1 would turn on me if they thought someone on the next block was offering something better.

Less time complaining and conniving would be more constructive and everyone would benefit.

There are two sides to this argument, but no one wins. We should try to work together instead of against each other.
So you believe offering 2 options to clients is impossible? It's pretty cut and
dried to me. You offer Option 1 as a money-saving low rate with offshore transcription and editing. Sorry, we can't guarantee quality, but hey, you save big bucks. You then offer Option 2, quality-minded American MTs and editors, the gold standard. The rate is higher, but so is the quality of the work. Of course, you then have to make sure you hire only those who can actually maintain high quality.
You are probably right though. It wouldn't work as there no doubt are far too many companies already offshoring without the client's knowledge reaping the benefits of using low-paid foreign workers with nondiscounted line rates. Silly me.
lmao!! yeah maybe I'm the recruiter...suggesting that my co-worker is the problem. yeah that make

RE demographics
Sometimes the MR # is already there, but I always have to type in the name and date of visit as well as the DOB and MR # if the doc dictates it. Sometimes he spells the patient's name. If not I type it to the best of my ability and move on. We get paid for all demographics.
I would take it to mean too many demographics. Maybe
s
So how much demographics?
Heck if it is only 1 number I'd say that's good.  Try the MDI-MD Lanier account I used to do.  You had to type in ALL the numbers and dates from both Lanier screens and pick the docs (on a list at least).  On a consultation you also had to fill in requesting physician, date, type of consultation and consulting physician.  And if they dictate it on all reports room numbers too.  Not to mention the accounts are 85% ESL.
What is demographics?
I don't know what it means when you say demographics when speaking about working for a National.  What is that?
DEMOGRAPHICS
Do any of you remember the days when the sup or clerk would edit the Lanier dictation as the dictation came in, listen, edit and then you received it?
100 QA DEMOGRAPHICS

demographics, etc.
Someone also recently told me that NONE of the normals are paid any more!! and have you noticed that their clocks do not correspond to real time?? That's how they decide FT/PT, whether you get insurance, PTO, etc...
Yeah, yeah, I spelled health wrong -
I am very angry right now and my fingers are taking it out on the keyboard.
Demographics a nightmare!
She seemed nice, pay was on time, but the time put into searching for patient demographics was ridiculous.  If they ever changed that, wouldn't be too bad.
I agree with demographics.
Wayyyy too much. I lasted longer than Miss Willy, worked there about 9 months, and it was like drowning. They kept adding more accounts and more demographics, and it was a miracle if you could get your line count.
About this demographics issue...
I don't understand...there's one number we must fill in on the DI, unless the MRN doesn't pull up the patient name, which is rare. It takes all of 2 seconds to put in the visit number, so to complain about that is just ridiculous. AND, we are VERY lucky to have so much work, while other companies can't even provide enough to keep their MTs making the minimum required lines...I, for one, Love Amphion...going on 2 years with them and am very happy. But hey, if there is a mass exodus, just means more work for me...and I only work 7 hours a day, make well above the minimum requirements...maybe you all just can't handle the perfection that it takes to be an Amphion employee...
What about the demographics at Keystrokes?
xx
I'd have to agree with you on the demographics.
I really hate not being paid for the headers and footers, especially when I spend so much time checking on the demographic info. It wouldn't be a problem if it were occasional, but on my particular account, it seems that the majority of reports have some sort of error or need more information. It's a lot of time spent following along behind lazy docs who can't enter numbers correctly. Maybe if I knew TT was holding the client's feet to the fire to get the docs to do things properly, I could at least have hope that someday all the demographics would come up correctly.

Oh! And copying and pasting repetitive cc information and looking for routing printers! I forgot that one! Add that to life's annoyances. Ugh.
SECOND WEEK 100%QA FOR DEMOGRAPHICS?..nm
SECOND WEEK 100%QA?
I am not talking demographics SM
I am talking errors, like transcribing incorrect medical words, incorrect values.  If the client is requiring that their work be free of medical and number errors, I don't call that being picky at all.
You have to check the demographics just
to insure you have the right patient, correct visit dates, etc. You can't do this job if you don't check demographics.
Demographics already filled
Allegiant is a wonderful company to work for.  she ALWAYS pays on time with direct deposit.  All of her accounts are in the database and there are no patient lists used whatsoever.  I have used Emdat for 6 years and I am very happy with the amount of money I make.
I use Ex-Text and don't have to type demographics
Maybe it depends on the account?
Does the demographics fill in on your account or do you ....

have to type them in?  I had an account that filled in and it was not too bad.  The account I have now must be searched out from the patient name to the type of document.  Really sucks because it is so terrilby time consuming.  Get a ESL saying the name and you can be looking at several minutes just to locate it.

I'm confused. Demographics autopopulate - ok, but what else does? (sm)
I'm confused now.  Are you talking about for example, DATE OF ADMISSION DATE OF DISCHARGE, SURGEON: etc. etc.  Isn't that a header.  Could you please elaborate?  Thanks
Time spent in demographics
Are there any company platforms out there where the demographics are already in place?  I could just scream sometimes trying to be a detective to get all the demographics in place only to have a one-liner follow.  Sigh... is it just me or are there others with the same frustration.  It's difficult to make rate when demographics have to be researched and the patient name sounds like Blavopvoskitapove.  Thanks for any clues on this.
If you like typing tons of demographics...
Then Amphion is for you!!! Yes, their platform is horrible. Too much searching for doctors, account numbers, etc. Not enough work on one account so you have to learn up to 6 (which I did). All 6 will have vastly different rules/regs and you better know the difference because they hit you on QA. Sometimes in a week mandatory overtime and 2 days later no work. You will be asked to flex your time, meaning stuck to the computer to make up the time to get your line count.

I do have to say, the people are great. Also, they do not offshore!! And, like the person above stated, their pay is more because of all the extra DI screen info you have to put in. Wasn't worth my time and moved on to somewhere better.
More sophisticated MT services have demographics already in or
xx
Hey fellow MTs! Will someone please share which co's pay for demographics. Thanks! nm
