You're right. It is miserable to be a US employee anymore.

We treat the immigrant workers and the overseas workers better than we treat our own ... it's the American way, of late, anyway.

Bet you're quite miserable with that tude.

employee jobs not supplying computers anymore?

I have noticed that more and more employee-type jobs are requiring you have your own computer.  That doesn't sound good to me.  I thought an employer supplied you with the tools to do your job if you are an employee and not an independent contractor.  Some of us don't want them to have access to our personal computer with whatever Spyware du jour is on it.  Or we have to buy our own auxillary tools like spellcheck and medical speller and foot pedals.

Just another thing taken away from us to add to the growing list.

Can you say why you're not typing for him anymore?

If you're extremely lucky you get 9cp. Experience doesn't seem to count much anymore. nm

If you're an IC, you pay all your taxes. Otherwise you're an SE or employee. nm

You're not an MQ employee?
I could have sworn you were with that nearly page-long thread regarding commas in which you featured so prominently with your assertions.

Huh.
You don't say if you're current job is IC or employee.

If you are IC now and take an employee position you need to figure the cost of benefits into the LPH rate.  Also if you are getting paid for headers and you aren't currently that figures in.  If you do 40 reports a day it isn't a huge difference, but over a pay period can add up.  If you end up with a decent account - quality dictation and very ESL/bad dictators it might be you'll come out ahead.  I would try it part-time though for at least a couple of weeks before quitting other job, so you can get a feel for it and see if it might be better overall.

What companies cut you off at 40 hrs if you're a FT employee? Any places let you do as much as

You're not eligible for benefits until employee.
And once an employee, you're not eligible for benefits unless producing 11,000 lines per pay period.  If, after being an IC for 90 days and then made employee, if you consistently run out of work and can't make 11,000 lines per pay period, you still don't qualify for benefits.  This has happened to a few people and why they left.
you "think they're great." Would you dismiss an employee with that 1st sent?

Youch, MQers, how do you handle DQS timesheets if you're a regular employee with no set schedule?

why be so miserable about your job? is there...
some other kind of work you can or want to do? honestly people, money is not everything and if you are working 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet you are killing yourself for nothing but paying the bills.
Miserable

Yeah, air conditioner went belly up and the cheap ones are sold out. I would not be working in this if I were not so dedicated to paying my bills, LOL. Know what you mean about being sleepy because cannot sleep in this heat.

I have always had animals in my life (the kids always had to have their own pets and so used to be a full house) and cannot imagine living without a dog and cat around the house and at least one stray or unwanted pet to find a home for (right now a turtle found wandering the streets by a neighbor!).

Stay cool

I am miserable there and hoping
to get out.  I have never made such a low LPH.  I was not aware that not being paid for spaces would hurt my production so much, but it has made a big difference.  I do like their platform and it was easy to learn, but I still have bills to pay.  I used to make 200 to 300 LPH with other companies, make 150 or so with this company.  Also they have a program where you can look up previous reports on the same patient or examples of report types or by the same doc, but it always, freezes or goes so slow and I am stuck in my screen.  I have heard from some others having this problem.  It really slows me down.  I am leaving as soon as I can.
Wow, what a nasty and miserable POS
you are. Sheesh!!!
If a person doing VR is miserable, then they need
to check around, find out people who are happy with VR as it looks like most are going that way regardless and then make a choice. No sense in being miserable trying to work with a system. Again, life is just too short for misery.
Come on - This board is not just for miserable MTs.

Understand your feelings, but why do you come here?  Not everyone on here is miserable.  Do they not have the right to post also.  You do not have to respond to them, you know.

It is very informative to see which companies have work, which do not, and for how long.  Pay, incentives, and bonuses are also very informative.  Who gets them and who doesn't.

Don't shoot the messenger!

You sound miserable....why do you stay? nm
nm
I think you should at least try to change STMs if you are miserable.
Mine is awesome. Super flexible and super helpful in everything. She gives us the option to flex if we want or take PTO (obviously we could use unpaid if we need) if we would rather. This last week when work was low and a holiday, she told us we should submit PTO request ahead of time and then if we needed we could unrequest some if we were able to make up some hours.

Maybe you could get with a new STM once the new accounts come in? Maybe ask to switch accounts?
I also encountered a QA nazi..She made my life miserable.
She was ridiculous to say the least. Is this company out of FL or UT? It just sounds very familiar.
I am not miserable at all. I am just tired of excuses of why people cannot work! nm
x
Sorry. That was eTransPlus. TT had the miserable ESLs and teaching hospital that I couldn't
s
As a former "QA Nazi" undeserved or not, you guys make our lives miserable, too.
Especially ESL MTs who used to be doctors in India who think they know it all and like to threaten lawsuits. Yah, that's the ticket.
"The most miserable group of people in the world"? Great attitude for a Lead.
Hope you're not one for long.
Statuatory employee versus regular employee....
Can someone tell me the difference between a statuatory employee versus a regular employee?  My company offeres IC or SE status....I am confused about whether switching over the SE would benefit me more than IC status that I have been for some time with them?  What are the benefits and disadvantages of being an SE versus IC?  Thanks for all of your help!
They hire both IC and employee. I am an employee (see message)
and I have full benefits. I am very happy that I came to work here. I came as a statutory employee from a large company. Everyone at MDI has been great to me.
Depends on if you are employee or statutory employee (sm)
Employee, 8th and 23rd of month
Stat. Employee, 15th and 30th month
Diskriter - Anyone go from their employee to hospital employee with them?
Thinking about giving up on being their employee and applying for a hospital employee position through them, they have one in PA right now that looks good.  How is it for scheduling?  Do you keep your line rate or get whatever the hospital pays? Who manages those accounts, is it the same PM and DR that are on the other ones?  I have DR and feel like she doesn't have a clue what she is doing and it is so annoying, but I just don't have the guts to let the company know she needs to step it up a notch because the transcriptionists are not happy under her.  Are QA the same people or through the hospital.  They have 1 QA that is constantly asking us questions on doctors and format, things we should be asking that QA person.  Annoying that new people move up to QA but people who've been there 2 or 3 years get treated like dirt and jumped account to account.
Not too much anymore
Generally they don't want you working for another company in the same geographical area, but don't say too much about having other jobs. They know it's hard to make a decent living with one. I work for one national as an MT and for a smaller company as an Editor and either cares, they just care if you slack on one to work for the other.
That was last mo. Before that I used to do okay, but that isn't possible at MQ anymore. nm

nm

Yup, most definitely. Can hardly get 200 lph anymore.
x
Rae are you out there anymore?
x
Do you have to use their CPU or don't they do this anymore? Thx. nm
s
I don't think she is there anymore.
nm.
RUN....they don't do DD anymore
x
They don't anymore.
x
Not there anymore but the same
experience because if you ask a question you get many different answers and you never know what one is right.  I hated the platform and QA was the rudest QA I've ever encountered in my 7 years of doing transcription.
Hope you're enjoying those slave wages you're earning.
.
Not anymore. Martha is gone. NM

Don't work there anymore,
so I can't check. Just wondering if it someone who deserved it or someone who was backstabbed.
I don't work for them anymore because (sm)
my phone started ringing off the hook for new local accounts, so I had to leave them, but if that hadn't happened, I would have stayed.  Very nice, very easy to deal with, always pay on time every week, great accounts.
They don't want to pay benefits anymore.

These are all trip ups for you to lose your benefits.  Power outages, emergencies, nothing matters when it comes to adding up to 40 hours, without which, you become a part timer without benefits - only production and PTO time is accountable towards those 40 hours - and about that so called wonderful PTO time most of us just starting accumulating 11 months ago:

In the 2080 hours which make up a "production" work year, you are now expected to produce 2000 of them with no exception other than the 80 PTO hours.  In  those 80 hours you must fit vacation, sick time for you and kids, holidays, personal time of whatever kind (keeping in mind most of us are the glue of our families;i.e. the mother).  It was better when they didn't give any PTO and you had reasonable, practical, human beings in a office to confer with about when you needed time off - and by the way - if you worked in a 9-5 job, your production time would be 6-1/2 hours a day, not 8.

This, being done to educated professional people who are NOT easily replaced?  I think not .  It's not worth it.  There are still plenty of doctors out there who are willing to work one-on-one with an intelligent person rather than to be slickered by some smooth talking corporate job hunter. So, it's good bye to being a company employee for me.

Same here. It's very difficult to get anymore than 200 lph
Am considering quitting also. Have averaged 300-400 lph at any other place I've worked. I also agree with you about the emailing bit. After every update about how much work is on the system, it's ALWAYS followed by an email from the owner about a minute later telling you to either stretch more or threatening you with their PRN Program or that you'll lose the work to offshoring, etc., etc...

Have nothing against anyone there, but I very rarely ever break 200 lph working on their hospital accounts. Bayscribe definitely gives low line counts.
After 12 years of doing this, I don't need them anymore. I think that KS was being
hard on me because I have had to take a lot of time off, often at the last minute. They just don't care that I am depressed and have a lot going on.

That's the problem with these big companies. We are just a number. When they were smaller, they would cover for a person in my situation and care, but now they just criticize work and get picky picky picky about it. They forget the times that I pitched in on my days off and just focus on the last few months. THAT is why I am mad and frustrated. They treat everyone like a number. I think this industry is in trouble because of the big companies.
I guess we won't see their ads anymore.

Hardworking MTs, if u can't take it anymore

This career has careened into the toilet.  If you are a good MT and can type fast and have good grammar, there is always a job for you as a legal secretary.  This is NO JOKE.  They will hire you without legal experience.  They do pay very well.  Your job will never be replaced by an Indian or other offshore person.  The medical benefits are not always great but sometimes they are.  Just know that you do have another career waiting.  I am not saying lawyers are sweet to work for, but they do pay, they do give generous bonuses at CHRISTMAS, they let you say Christmas even if they are Jewish.  They will become very dependent on you, as lawyers can't tie their own shoes.  Think about it!

Sad as it is, nothing is sacred anymore.
l
Who doesn't anymore?

Fact of life.  More Editor positions now available, less typing, hourly salaries.

I never hear about QT anymore. Are they still here?

I wonder if K.C. will have a job.. there are no 'U.S. Operations' anymore to be VP of!!! nm
