You've got to be kidding! It makes a HUGE difference. I sure wouldn't want to work with

There's a huge difference

The abuse is far worse on-site.  I was pulled to do so many other things it was not even funny when I was on-site.  I'm finally home and glad to make the money I deserved for a lot of years.

E-mails - you can hit delete.  Meetings on-site you have to sit there while they drone on and on...  Boring!  I could get a load of clothes in or clean the litter box out and back to banging out some lines.

Yes the work needs to be done, but gosh it's easier not having to rush to get a shower, head out in the dark in the winter in the early a.m., fight the traffic (none of this is paid).  I'd rather spend that time seeing my children and hubs off to school and work - much more pleasurable...

IMO...  Happy Holidays!

Enterprise. I really think there's a huge difference
in STM expectations and management styles. I find my STM fairly unreasonable and to be completely lacking in empathy/understanding. Even though I average 19-20,000 lines a pay period and have 98.9% QA, she is unreasonable in many ways. Oh well. Wonder if I can change STMs?
attitude. I also think it makes a HUGE
difference if you like the account your on. I hate my account and have requested to be moved on numerous occasions. I work my schedule. I work when they call for OT. I don't call in. So please don't preach to me, I have worked the worst accounts and the worst shifts without one complaint. However, I would like to be treated with some respect. The office I work out of has totally changed in the past 3 months and not for the better. I used to be just like you - all was good. I hope your good fortune with them continues. Just don't be so quick to judge others and say they suck as you really don't know the whole picture of their situation. And by the way, I don't have a husband to fall back on either, but I do have a child to feed. We are not bad people because we share a different opinion that you do - that is our right and as I said everyone is different situations.
Like that makes any difference? I am IC and the
company has me working hours already set up. When I first signed on was told would have to know which days and hours. I do not know how others do but as an IC am certainly bound to work set hrs.
Thank you for clarifying that. It makes a big difference! NM

Makes a big difference when you can actually say, "I love my job." :-) sm

I recently switched jobs, and for the first time in a VERY long time, I actually look forward to working.  I love the people, the pay is good, and I love the work (cardiology).   I also have found out I am much more productive as an IC, working when I want, which actually turns out to be more hours than a straight 8 hours somewhere as an employee, but it doesn't seem like it is so much because I work whenever I want to (like right now when I am up at 3 a.m.!).

I'm glad you found a company you're happy with.  I have always heard good things about AccuStat.  It is nice to see positive posts instead of just the negative.

Probably wouldn't make a difference. sm
They put my line rate in writing in my offer letter, and did a bait and switch later. Buh-bye gross line rate and accounts, hello new rate and new accounts. I did the math and it didn't come out right. I sent them email about it, and they didn't make it right. Rather than take them to court, I quit.
Thanks for info. Makes a difference whether I apply or not.
nm
It makes a big difference in mine. So happy.
nm
Don't know about cherry picking, but time of day makes all the difference (sm)
If I worked day shift, got a fair mix of work. The days I worked early evening, seems like I had to work through 8-10 pieces of rejected poop to get to the regular mix. I thought perhaps a lot of people ended their shift when a crappy one came up and therefore the next shift had to wade themselves out of the doo-doo.
IC or employee status, makes no difference at this point. nm
x
Holidays and OT offered on the weekend - always makes a difference (sm)
anywhere you work. Also, I think some of us (newer hires) are getting up to speed and pulling more work from the accounts. This is all part of the process. If they plan to take on new accounts they have to be sure the current ones are well covered.
Were you hired hourly or by the line, employee or IC? just wondering if it makes a difference...
I opted for hourly and wondering if it woudl be better do it by the line. It is hard to know if you do not know the software program or what the transcription is like ESL etc.. Just wondered what your experience has been like.
You've got to be kidding - right?
LOL
you've GOT to be kidding, right?
you don't know that for a fact.

you've got to be kidding....
you must be either related to her or on commission with that company. That's a company that is in the process of self-destruction just because of the CEO and the CEO alone. They can't keep the GOOD MTs because the GOOD MTs know better!!! I did QA and training for them - had one MT quit in 3 days because of the degradation and verbal abuse on the phone alone!!! If you like calls all hours of the day and night (constant interruptions for invalid points) and don't mind being expected to LIVE in front of your computer, then go for it.

Also, there were 18 different times in less than a year when my line counts were sent to me for billing purposes that were missing quite a bit of what I had transcribed (good think I kept a log!!). We're not talking $10 or $20 - more like a couple hundred.
You've GOT to be kidding!!!
You are just what the company wants - a puppet who can spout back exactly what they have planted in your head.

Good grief - get a clue!!!
10? You've got to be kidding. There aren't that many that could make it. nm
x
A raise? Are you kidding me? I've not heard anything
but NO forever when I've asked for a raise, and I'm productive, accurate, work my schedule and extra if needed. And the rates are low because the extra $$$ stay in the MTSO's pocket, or they are competing with offshoring cheap-labor wages. I think you need a reality check!
You''ve got to be kidding. It sounds like they are looking for some suckers
to do a free month of work.  That is so ridiculous.  You just know at the end of the end they are going to tell you after all that work that it didn't pass because you didn't put a comma where it needed to be etc.. and how are you going to dispute any of it or get paid. There is no way in ###$#$# that I would work for a place like that. Sounds like a bad scam of some sort.
A lot? You've got to be kidding. Name them. "Big schools" still don't equal experience.
x
I wouldn't personally want to be paid that way, but I've heard
of people that have and they didn't seem to mind. I guess it really depends on how much per page. I remember when it was $1. I think it's $2 now so if you do say 1-1/4 pages and get $4 for it, I'd say that's good. But you still only get $4 even if it's 2 full pages. Of course it depends too on the font size they use. That's why I'd rather just get a line rate. Or they might also pay you 1/4 the rate of 1 page if that's all you type. There's a lot of if's. You need to ask questions.
I think this could only be done with a huge client base, or a huge number of say only
s
Only difference I've noticed is the DVI vs non-DVI pedal. Otherwise, regular Infinity pedal shoul
s
LOLOL! I don't think we will ever run out of work. They have added three huge
accounts this month alone and I know that there are two scheduled for next month and two the month after. They are growing like crazy and I cannot believe we will ever be slow.
They are up for a HUGE account in Chicago. I work for one of the hospitals sm
and would be offered a position to work with them if it happens. I am very worried now. The last hospital I worked for went with Medquist and we all lost our jobs. They did offer us jobs but not on the hospital we worked for. I went to this other one and now this :(
Do any companies let you specialize rather than work out of a huge pool? nm
nm
Out of work here, too--and I have 4 huge hospital accounts!! GRRR nm
x
Why? If the work gets done what difference
nm
it wont really make a difference anyway as there is NO work!
d
I thought it made a difference to work
but unless you are working for the hospital it doesn't matter, you still get what they want you to have. I asked my last supervisor if they get psych work and was told they did but she saved them for another MT who liked them. The work I would get would be one-minute mush mouths. It sometimes took 20 minutes to complete one. That's the way it stayed until I finally left. I think that's an MT service thing because when I worked for the hospital, I typed whatever was next in line, no cherry-picking and no favoritism.

Sorry to hear that is happening to you. Hopefully, things get better either through communicating the problem or by getting a better job situation.

2 cents more per line is a big difference, if you do the same work
I do not know if you'll make more at Spheris, but they do pay on time, their supes and QA are decent, insurance is not, and they have incentives, and overall are okay except they offshore.
what difference is even double time if there is NO WORK...

this is about the slowest holiday I have seen but even we are holding back on healthcare visits right now unless emergencies because we cannot afford it.  perhaps that is part of it but whatever it is I have had no work for 2 days so my holiday pay I was promised is actually putting me back in the red...

Merry Christmas

Running OUT of work? You MUST be kidding! We are drowning.
x
are you kidding? I work. It's our reality and it's NOT going to change.
either get a grip, and realize that .. or enjoy your poverty, your welfare, your food stamps and your desire that isn't going to feed you. I wish everyone would stop griping about offshoring. If you have a job, so what your company offshores. It's life. Put on your big girl pants and deal with it. Feed your family and get over it. Take the money where you can get it ...
Can someone tell me the difference between IC and employee and what hours are you expected to work
as an IC. Are your hours flexible as an IC.
There's a difference between over hiring and the occasional work slow down. sm
Every company has some times that are busier than others. That doesn't make the recruiter a liar.
I was told Escription would not work with Vista. Turned out it wouldn't work with my sm
Office Basic Edition 2003 either, but no one could figure out why, it was supposed to.

There is actually a section on the Dell website that offers Windows XP. I haven't checked it out as I'm not in the market, so I don't know if it costs extra. I have a Dell and it's been fine for me. I hate the ESL tech department, but it seems like most of them have that now.
I guess this explains part of the reason we keep running out of work. My office lost a lot of huge
accounts in the past year.
Your kidding yourself; NO 12-hour window at Transtech AT ALL! You work your schedule EXACTLY !
This is a fact and all TT MT's know this.
You gotta be kidding me! Do NOT work for those wages it hurts the entire industry. sm
People taking those wages are hurting the entire MT field period whether in the US or elsewhere. You are only padding someone else's pockets with those wages. Highway robbery.

It looks like you need to hire yourself a proofer.
i wouldn't work for them
They started a new program for new grads called Focus in the Future. They have you do live work but will not pay you for that work, claiming it is because they are providing you with valuable training and mentoring. To me, it just sounds like they found a way to get work done for free.
I wouldn't do any more work either.
Sounds like you're not going to get paid so don't waste anymore time with her.
You wouldn't want to work here anyway. NM
NM
If feedback isn't sent to MTs, that makes more work for you because......
they will make the same annoying mistakes over and over
Personally, I wouldn't work for them if *sm*
you do have it correct and they do not pay you for an evaluation period. Any work you do for them at all should be paid for. This company just gives me a bad feeling anyway, based on the posts from when they first opened up and started advertising online for help. At that point they weren't paying more than like 0.06 per line. I think maybe you can still find some information over on MTChat.com about them from that time period. I also remember a few posts on here about NSF checks a while back.

I wouldn't get any work done, but the thought of sm
of a food pedal is great..... Hmm, could make a ton of money.....Where's that patent list???? LOL!!! Nice to have fun on this board once in a while.
Vonage wouldn't work well enough. I'm in MI if that
helps.
Why wouldn't they? I live in NY and I used to work
for them. Key word is USED to.
Used to work for them, would never again and definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone
bt
Wouldn't that be stealing work
Maybe they are running out of work and unable to meet their minimum because YOU felt entitled to extra money - ever think of that?  One reason most employers insist on approved OT is to keep us from screwing each other this way and assuring everyone gets at least their minimum hours!  How thankful are your teammates for your help, I wonder?
