You've got what I'm talking about

Great post!!  You've got that healthy sense of self-respect that I was talking about.  That's what I was trying to get at.  You know your worth, value it, and are willing to stand up for it.  This is what we all need first of all.  Then, after we have that firmly entrenched in our mind, we choose whether we want to accept the limitations that this profession currently offers in terms of wages and see what we can do to make things better.

I too left a very lucrative career to do this because I find this so much more interesting.  I was a legal assistant for many years.  And I can tell you, no legal assistant would let themself be treated the way many of us do.  They walk and find better.  And no lawyer lets a good assistant go without good reason because they are valued and the lawyer depends on that assistant to make them look good and get the job done.  We do the same for the physicians whether it be directly in their office or through a service.  Our job is even more serious because a botched report can endanger a patient's care NY other to mention possibly end up subjecting the physician and/or the service we work for to a lawsuit.  What we do matters.  They demand such perfection from us (as they should) with their QA departments -- we should demand fair compensation and treatment in return.

I'm grateful I can work from home.  I'm grateful for the benefits.  I'm just saying this shouldn't be flashed in our face by some companies as a reason to work for them to cover up the fact that they want cheap labor.  That is bad enough.  When we buy into that line of thinking, it's even worse.  When you ask for a raise and are told something in return like, But you work from home.  Think of all the money you're saving!  It's a bunch of (probably not allowed to write here the words that come to mind).  Try telling your at-home dentist or physician or accountant or hairdresser, etc. I won't pay my bill in full because you work from home and think of all the money you're saving!  Sounds pretty nuts, right?

Thanks for the heads up. I've been talking
Sorry your experience had to be so bad for the rest of us to find out about them. Good luck to you.
No, I was talking to you...I've been having major problems sending and receiving e-mails (sm)
on this board..I don't know why.  If you want, try e-mailing me from here and I'll give you the company info.  Thanks.
Not talking about lines. Talking about what you actually

What good does it do? They've lied, they've betrayed us.

They've taken all they are going to take from me.   I am not going to waste any more time being angry.   I hate the way things ended, but I refuse to accept the blame for any part of it because I know that was a lie too, even though they did try to blame the MTs.  I know part of the problem was quality issues, but QA wasn't to blame for that either, although they have been.

It is time to pick up and move on.   I think mgmt will reap what they sow.   For those who worked on the main account Webmedx is still hiring, though the best time slots have already been taken.

What the heck? I've never heard that in the 8 yrs I've worked here. sm
Go back to your STM or over his or her head.
Since you've brought it up, I've stopped SM

giving the negative info because every time I have in the past I am called a disgruntled ex-employee or told that my experience has no relation to what the company is like today.

I won't repeat the information I've given in the past, anyone can find it on searches.  I've decided to just let the people have their experience with the company and that experience will validate everything I've ever said about those people.

The same people own and run that company--they may have new names doing the management, but it still runs the same way.

You've got it ~ you've hit the nail on the head....

I can Google until dawn and still not find John Smith in NY - you know the neurologist...  Cut me a break!  I've now learned to ask my online company for a list of referring physicians (since none of the accounts are in my state) and also ask for websites for the hospitals, but I still don't take more than 5 min of my own time to find referring physicians.  I send it right through with a verify cc:...

As far as making an educated guess, I would only do that if it was my own account and I know the dictator well.  For the online company, it is their responsibility to make that educated guess as it is their client, not mine.  I leave that up to the company to make assumptions; this way it is on their back, not mine when it comes to the legality of the report.  Ultimately, the physician is responsible when signing that report or there should be clause on those reports that state dictated but not read.  If that clause is not there, then it is the physician's responsibility to know the content, not the MT.  An MT can only transcribe what they hear and really should not be making educated guesses on anyone since we live in a world of sue-happy patients and their malpractice insurance is so high.  If there is a question, it needs to go the dictator to resolve.

JMO - been doing this for over 20 years.

I've been a QA 15 years and I've never heard
of any company only paying for the actual Keystrokes of the blank. You would literally make less than minimum wage that way. Waaay less.
I've come here for as long as I've been...
...an MT, for the same reasons all of you do. I don't scan the boards looking for false accusations, but when something comes up that does involve me, I would like the opportunity to defend myself. That's all...
You MUST be talking about OSI
nm
see... this is what I'm talking about
This is good stuff. Thank you. Now about platforms. What seem to be the main complaints? What makes a platform 'good'? The one I work on has a screen where most of the demographcis are filled in, but you have to do a couple. Then you go into the report. I don't really mind it, but have nothing to compare it to.
I don't know who YOU are talking about
I don't really know who you are talking about nor do I care about what happened in Spring 2004. That was 18 months ago. But if that lady did have a company, I am sure she knew something about running a company. I was speaking about current stuff, and the ladies I worked for were absolutely THE most wonderful people ever. One even went to bat for me when the company shorted me some money. She stood up to the big dogs, and she won too!!!! What a wonderful, wonderful human being!!! She was a great TEAM leader, TEAM player, and made our team awesome!!! She made you want to work for her AND our team!! Never in all my years of working ANYWHERE (and I'm 45 years old...so lots of bosses!!!) have I ever found anyone that compares with her! I had (and have) many that need to take lessons from her, but none that compare or even come close! :)
What are you talking about?

Are you talking about the one in NJ or in FL? nm

Are you talking about the one that used the

Okay, we are obviously talking about
The Sten-Tel I am referring to is located at One Monarch Place in Springfield, MA. They do not use a payroll service. One of the owners does the payroll. Please state the address of the company you are referring to.
What are you talking about?
That's why it's the mess that it is. They were too afraid their fees would get frozen and they couldn't charge $600 to get a benign polyp analyzed under a scope(actual price, yes, from a bill). She mentioned the word healthcare, and the AMA, the largest world in the union (as the docs how much they pay for the medical insurance - NOTHING), squished her. We desperately NEED health care reform, but big bucks Bush (the one who says we need to give up our love for oil, even though oil is what is padding his pockets), and his buddies at the AMA (including corrupt Frist) won't allow it. So, it, along with everything else in this country, is going to continue to slide downhill. Bill was bad, yep - left good old Georgie boy a heap of money in the bank that he now has spent like a mad drunk.
What are you talking about???
In your 15 years experience, you should know that the proper word to use is 'accept', not except. I made the above post and have 8 years experience and am probably younger than you are. What part of my post indicates that I cannot 'accept' that this field is changing?

The newbies need to 'accept' the fact that this is a serious profession and that you must be dedicated and willing to work hard if you intend to remain in this field. YOU are the one who needs to GET OVER IT and crack open a dictionary while you're at it.
Now I KNOW you don't know what you are talking about (sm)
They don't have acct supervisors
Not sure if you are talking about same co. or not
Did you see an ad on MT Jobs? Spelling of name is different so I just want to be sure.
Just talking about it
I did not just talk about it. I cancelled my membership.
? I think you are talking to me, but I am SM

not the other person posting above.  I don't link to an email because I want to be anonymous.  I don't cheerlead for TH, it's just a job, better than some I have had but I have had better jobs in the past.  I need the insurance, they pay on time and I make enough money to pay my bills.  I don't think I can exactly call that cheerleading.  I know of worse companies.

As far as the names on the list, I must have a different email roster than you because the #s you give correspond to people I know are American MTs, so I am confused about where you are seeing Indonesian names.

are you talking about use of IM ? nm

That's exactly what I'm talking about

You don't know what you are talking about

Medware has over 200 transcriptionists in India.  They have more MTs in India than they do in the U.S.  I gave Medware a chance.  I worked with them for many years and in the end I got to watch my friends take a huge cut in pay when Medware decided all reviewers would make $8.00 an hour with incentives for ridiculously high production expectations that only about 2 people can make.  I have watched the lead MTs lose their positions only to be asked to return to transcription.  It is insulting the way Medware treats their people.

I am glad you like Medware.  I used to like them too.  But I am sure if you stick around long enough and start making enough money with them, you too will learn how they really are.

I don't know what you are talking about but
I can tell you that QA people do not get the bucks. They should, but they make about half what an MT makes. I do not transcribe, which is why I am in QA, so if you think we make big bucks, think again.

Companies have gone cheap on all of us. It is not MT against QA out there. QA has usually done their part in the MT world. If they tried to give me MT work they would be out of luck cuz the profession has about done me in and I would be on total disability from what it has caused.

The companies just have no respect for any of us. That's the bottom line. Don't blame your woes on QA. Blame it on the companies who have no other thinking other than the bottom line.
Anyone talking with MDI-MD? (SM)
I was called by the recruiter Saturday before last.  She said someone would be calling me later to discuss the money aspect of it and I still have not heard from anyone.  I emailed the original recruiter and she said the other lady had a death in the family.  I waited until yesterday and emailed again and she said they have been really busy with a new account.  Just wondering if anyone else is going through this.  I have several interviews this week and would really like to put them in the running as what was intiallly told to me sounds very promising but I can only wait so long.....
I know exactly what you are talking about
I've had that happen so many times I can't even tell you.  Worked 7-days a week for one with not a single day off in over 3 years.  Gave notice due to health and  not being able to work those hours anymore and got an email talking about how I didn't know what hard work was, etc. etc.  Presently in a supervisory position, promoted only after 30 days to it, but told it didn't merit a raise.  No overtime allowed but I'm supposed to be here making sure things run smoothly all the time.  Head of QA on my account yet some of the new-hire editors are making more than I am.  Even with all the supervisory duties, my line output for editing is #1 for the account.  Does anybody care? Uh-uh.  Spent all day on the job sites looking for something better.  You'd think if you work your tail off and go above and beyond, it would matter, but it doesn't.
I am sure we are talking about the same
person. What I can say about her is that she stands up for what she believes in and she will not take being treated like junk particularly when she probably knew more than anyone at the company.

She has helped me find jobs and she also will go out of her way to help anyone in this field and I applauded when she quit on them. They did not deserve her anyhow.
Are you sure you know what you are talking about?
RAD MT's, I was just offered a position with them, my current company came back with a counteroffer and that is the only reason I did not go with Precyse. They sound like a very good company to work for.
What you talking about?
There was an e-mail today mentioning 7 different accounts that have extremely high volumes right now, and telling us that if our primary is low or out of work, to please come over and work on these. If the work on your account is being saved for the cherrypickers (which I honestly doubt), then go on over and work on one of those. Sounds like there's a ton of work out there if you want it.
What are you talking about?

Oh of COURSE they are. What I'm talking about is - sm
the even higher likelihood of mistakes, ID theft and other problems. Not mention that MT is basically done under close to sweatshop conditions in those countries. The poor MTs sit shoulder-to-shoulder all day long. In videos I've seen, I sure havent seen much in the way of reference books for them, either. Just a medical dictionary.

Oh - and actually, in the 'scruples' department, I really have a problem with countries that treat animals so terribly. Dogs and cats crammed into cages in open-air markets to be sold as food. And then often skin them alive before doing so. The so-called 'lucky' ones are clubbed to death first.
If you are talking about me (sm)
I am trying to save  this person the disappointment.  No attitude.  I was being honest.  I thought that is what the Company Board is about.  Sorry if I offended anyone, it wasn't meant to.
You don't even know what you are talking about.

What does *ASA* that everyone is talking about - sm

mean?  What does it do?  I'm hoping my co. doesn't get it, but it it does, I'd like to have a clue what I'm up against.

Are you talking about MDI, perhaps?
Transtech ad says  Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.  They are very strict that you adhere to your schedule agreed upon with TT.  You will be written up for not doing so.  One MT posted on here that she was fired for not doing so.  You will get phone calls and Emails if you do not log in and off at the exact scheduled time -- don't believe anything posted about flexibility -- unless they have their fav MT's who can do what they want to do without reprimand.
I believe I know which co you are talking about.
nm
Are you talking about DTS in TN or OK?
....
Talking to other MTs
Like you, I've been on the other side of the fence too. To some degree what you say is true. HOWEVER, my personal opinion is that the concept of being part of a team and being a rather important cog in the wheel far outweighs the hazards of having MTs feel isolated and that the company doesn't want us to talk and only considers us to be 10 moving fingers. Fact is, it's no skin off my teeth as I probably wouldn't bother talking to anyone anyhow. I have more than enough to keep me busy locally and don't feel the need to consult with other MTs. But then color me an odd duck...I just want to do my work and be left alone. I don't care how big the company is, how many accounts they have, what other MTs make, etc. etc. Doesn't add an extra cent to my paycheck.
Now see THAT's what I'm talking about!
Yes, I know both parties are corrupt as ____, however, WE are still in charge unless we just totally ROLL OVER...

Trust me, they PAY ATTENTION TO HOW MANY irate, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens take the time to look up their number and call them.

POLITE BUT FIRM works.

Remember: They don't count votes, they count FEET IN THE STREET. What does that mean? It means they DON'T want your feet in the street (marching and protesting). When they see the numbers of contacts rise for any given issue, they DO take notice, and SOME action.

Don't give 'em a free ride to take YOUR hard tax dollars and not hear your voice.

KUDO'S to the two who responded that you have already called your reps in Congress. THEY work for YOU!
You don't know what you are talking about..

The details you are citing are - and have been proven to be about a different company, not TTS...and I could name that company but there are probably prohibitions on this board to doing so...they are now getting their just deserts..and it is not TTS.

Meantime, you need to do a little fact checking before you make incorrect and possible harmful statements...I work at TTS and have had and continue to have a great experience there, and almost let disgruntled people like you and the others who are so negative and bitter keep me from even applying...

You maybe should get a life, get over whatever is causing what seems to be your extreme bitterness, and who ever started this thread seems to have coordinated it, was not really looking for info or considering a job with TTS, just looking to dust up dirt..the quality of humans on this boards is sometimes very sad..not just to me but to a lot of others who have to wade through your garbage...

Hope you all find some happiness somewhere somehow someway...though I can surely understand if you don't.
Go for it! This is what I am talking about.
If the hospital is 5 minutes from your house, then you'll know the doctors!!!!  You're ahead of the game already!

Which one are you talking about? I don't see it.

I know exactly who you are talking about!!!

Yes, that is exactly what I am talking about, plus SM
the places that are paying 1.5 to 2 cpl for VR. Totally dispicable in my book.
What are you talking about?

If you are talking about the one in OR.....sm
they are an excellent company to work for.  Been there for a year and a half.  The staff is great and they always pay on time or a few days early.
Are you talking about .... SM
the supervisor right above us MTs or the one above her?  I haven't not been here very long and haven't seen this side of either one.
