You judge an entire company by the posts of 2 or 3 out of 500+ employees?

Posted By: Amazing on 2008-01-27
In Reply to: I can see how the posts might lead to that conclusion - tnmt

That amazes me with MQ too. A few people post but the what they write it taken as gospel.

Keystrokes is very well run; it is sad that someone can make a blanket statement about something they know nothing about.

Don't judge a company by the recruiter -
I recently went through the same thing and I don't think the recruiter knew the difference between an elbow and a knee.  Anyway, I got hired and am VERY happy with the company.  The only test I took was a Q&A over the phone, no typing test, but I guess with 10+ years experience they didn't want to waste my time or theirs.  Wish more companies would do that.  It is time consuming to take these typing tests.  Good luck.
Best not to judge a company based on recruiter. (sm)
I just wanted to say that I am an MT and am related to a recruiter who actually recruits for several different companies at the same time. She isn't allowed to give out account names or even cities that the accounts are in by any of the companies she recruits for. She also is only the first step - if you seem like a good fit and pass the tests, then she puts someone from the actual company in touch with you to give you more information. I know of at least 2 other recruiters who also work for more than one company. They aren't on-site at the company, have no direct knowledge of the work flow patterns or accounts, and haven't ever actually even met the people they are recruiting for! Not all companies do this, but some of the smaller ones outsource their recruiting this way. My advice is this: If you don't get what you need from the recruiter, ask to speak to someone else who can tell you more.
I think it is the entire company.
Starts at the top. I am truly amazed they are still in business.
IC pays ENTIRE tax to IRS, company does NOT pitch in.
This is a BIG boon for the companies as they try to pay ICs the same (or lower) rate than employees. At the end of the year, you will find yourself owing Uncle Warhead a really big chunk of money - and deductions? Forget it unless you can come up with more than $5,000 worth, which you may be able to do if you are buying a home - be real careful if you are renting. I don't care what anyone tells you. Talk to a tax professional before considering going IC.
Regarding the posts below, employees do not start at 8 cpl.

Tip for new employees to any company

This may sound like simple and crazy advice but I was recently sweating bullets when I started a new job and afraid that I could not meet the line requirements.  I sat down on my day off and spent about 4 or 5 hours seriously updating my shortcut program. I must have added 10 times the amount of shortcuts that I had before.  The very next time that I worked I doubled my production and it has gone up every day since then.

So it may not be the new company you go to work for if you are worrying about making the line requirements. It may be your shortcut program needs some serious updating. That was sure true in my case.

There are probably still some rotten companies out there but I made a big difference myself and now I couldn't be happier at my new company!

From the company owner to the employees
after somebody mistakenly forwarded an email from someone in India to the company employees- then they had to fess up. The person with the email slipup decided to "change jobs" within the company and it went to the pits after that with incompetent managers.
There are disgruntled former employees at any company
if you do your work and do it well you'll be fine at Diskriter.
Good company who employees nearly as many
a good company who always swore they would never offshore our work. Yup, good company. 1000 domestic MTs and 600 Indians.  They make MQ look loyal to the US!
You don't know her. How can you judge? I do know her
and know that she is one of hte most caring people I have ever met. If she did not care, she would not post or get upset when people post. If you have ever met her, dealt with her at length, gotten to know her, you would know how wrong you are. You might be right that she is too emotional but I you cannot say that she does not care.

It is certainly not up to me to judge
another person's integrity. I wish D well and honestly hope things work out for her. The one thing that does bother me is the dissonance created between the fact that she was so adamantly offshoring and now is doing this 180. It is her company and her right to change her mind at any time. I am also just a tad disappointed that many of us sat in front of empty screens for weeks, all the while being told that a new account was coming on in September and then all would be fine again. Well, I suppose many new accounts will be coming on, but as they say, half a lie is still a lie. We all lost valuable time waiting when we could have been looking for other jobs and moving on. The situation was NOT going to go back to business as usual in September and D, of course, knew that. Still and all, I do wish D well. We cannot possibly know what she went through in making this decision, so I am not going to judge. We all change and if she has changed her point of view about offshoring, that is her prerogative. I hope she is successful. I don't have a problem with what was done so much as with HOW it was done. But it is over, I have a great job and it is time to move on. Good luck to D and good luck to us.
A horrible company who does not value truth or the employees.

I do try not to judge most of what is on this board; however,
it is my opinion, that MTSOs and managers for companies really should not post on a public board like this. It is my thought that the quieter the company remains, the better off they will be.

Every MT has a different opinion about every company, some good and some bad. MTSOs have to take the good with the bad either way.

It just seems so unprofessional for a company owner to post on a public forum.
Don't judge all of us by 1 poster - there are sm
nasty and nice folks wherever you go. That goes for former employees too (like the one who first posted good riddance to Webmedx)- some folks are gonna be happy and other unhappy with any company out there.

Most of us are nice people at Webmedx!
Is there a company who offers benefits to parttime employees?
Just curious
I work for another company that advertises for new employees often with the same reaction. Maybe s
those who are NOT in-the-know should keep their opinions to themselves unless they know facts. The company I work for is hiring over 100 MTs as well due to two new accounts between now and the end of the year too. Maybe a few of the biggies have lost a few accounts that the mid-size MTSOs can handle in a more personal manner. Perhaps hospitals are FINALLY getting tired of the offshore garbage they are getting back from some of the other nationals. Either way, there are some major accounts changing services and a few of the mid-size MTSOs will need to pull from the transcriptionists out there looking for a better job!
If the hospital employees know, then the company knows. Keep your mouth shut and get out.

Most company web sites have testimonials from LOTS of employees, not just one. sm

Kind of makes you think, doesn't it?  They just use that one tired rave review of yours.

As far as not having a problem with you being gone -- you're an IC!  You're SUPPOSED to be able to be gone when you need to be.   It is another place that doesn't seem to know the meaning of the idea of being an IC, although that is par for the course nowadays and I really cannot point them out as being the only one who does that.

It would seem best to let the CardioScribes thread die, but you had to bring it to the foreground again.

Actually, having employees work at home is a benefit...TO THE COMPANY
more than the employee. The company doesn't have to pay for office space, electricity, etc.....
Is there a listing anywhere that shows # of employees or size of company? nm )

Without Naming Company, Does anyone know cost of COBRA for out-of-state employees?
x
She is definitely an employee. This company in Georgia has 150+ employees. Forty hour
work week is one thing but having them get very upset when you are working 50-60 hours and be nasty when the account is still behind but saying no overtime, no way is a very different thing.  I advised her ask the department to check out this company and out get out of there anyway.
Does any company offer insurance to part'time employees? nm
xxx
Do not judge unless you have been in their shoes. I worked for another sm
company that went through the exact same thing for 2 years. They were too big for small company insurance and do not have enough people that want insurance to qualify for large group. They would get all the way to the final contract and the insurance company would double the rate.

Keystrokes has been trying to get this resolved for a year. The reason for the information is because each company wants different things.

I spoke with someone very high up in the company about this. She told me that they get close and then something happens to change it, like the insurance company backs out due to too many health issues or that they decide that the group is not diverse enough. Keystrokes employs mostly women. The insurance companies do like this because women tend to go to the doctor more.

I do know that they are going to pay a portion though.

I think that the shame should be on you. Do you think that you are helping by complaining on a public board? There are 500 happy employees and just a handful who come to the boards to bash them. This is worse than high school.
It's not really fair to judge a person on how often
In this business, and especially when you're an IC, why should a company look down on an MT who has worked at different companies or changed jobs often, especially when work is slow at one company & they have to go looking for more work at another company? How is an MT supposed to stay at one company for years anymore when the companies are offshoring (leaving less positions for US MTs), running out of work for us, overhiring, going out of business, changing their platforms, cutting pay, etc., etc., etc...

Remember, this has been going on for 8 to 10 years no, so just because you perceive an MT to be a job hopper doesn't necessarily mean it's their fault or for the wrong reasons!

When MTs aren't making enough money with a company either because of little to no work to do, or if their company changes platforms that makes it harder to make a line count, what are they supposed to do? Stay there anyway? Sit and wait for work for days, weeks, months on end just so they can put on their resume that they are loyal and/or can hold down a job??

Newsflash, GOOD MTs hold up their end of the bargain when hired by these companies ... it's the COMPANIES who aren't living up on THEIR end! Why should an MT go broke waiting for work or losing income on a crappy platform change??

That's SO unfair to MTs and just out and out ridiculous. Burns me UP!
Please read new post before you judge...
Please see the post regarding this subject under the New MT board
There are bad posts about every company...

And for most companies, there are also good posts.

There are a couple bad things to really listen to--late/no pay is one of them.  However, most have an opinion based on personal preferences.  Some people don't like OSi (or Spheris, or Medquist, or fill-in-the-blank), and some people do.  It's all based on a personal preference, and that's why many people say again and again that every company is good for some, bad for some.  No one company is going to be perfect for everyone.  The most balanced views acknowledge the good and bad of a company.

I currently work for OSi and have for almost 2 years.  I loved working for them as an MT and hated working as QA.  I am back to part-time MT, and while I'm generally happy and still would and do recommend them to MTs, there are some things I don't like.  Just as I assume there will be some things I will not like about the company I go to next.  But as far as OSi goes, they ALWAYS pay on time, the account coordinators are great, and most of the management are nice and try their best to be accommodating.

The honest truth is that I would not recommend arguing with the QA department, or at least to pick your battles carefully.  However, mostly the QA dept leaves you alone unless you fail a review.  Just don't ever work for QA there... lol  The QA dept is seriously the only bad thing I would say about OSi.  And they're mostly good people, just very inept at QA sometimes.

So all in all, I say OSi is a good place to work.  Despite my personal distaste for the QA dept, they are not terrible and do not really affect your day-to-day work.  I recommend them with all honesty and I think that MOST MTs would find them a good place to work.

They have great accounts, some very good line-makers.  I seldom run out of work, but cannot say that I never run out.  But when I do, I have the choice of going to a secondary account.  I really do like all of the accounts and the sound quality is never a problem (at least for me--and obviously there are times that docs dictate on cell phones that sound as though they are on a motorcycle, going 100 mph).  But the overall sound quality is great, and ExText is my favorite platform thus far. Again, the account coordinators are very good, very friendly, and very easy to talk with.

Keystrokes works in about 15 rad platforms, so you cannot judge on one. The pay
scale is a starting point. I make over $85000 a year with them, FT days, 1 weekend a month, 8 hours a day. I rarely take extra as my account is staffed pretty tight and we work together.

I would rather get 120-150 reports a day at 1.10 then 20 at 1.25.

Depends on the account though.
4 cpl could be for newbies or editors. Don't judge so quickly
Consider that service owners have to take the time to edit and provide feedback to newbies and that takes a LOT of time.
Take the MTSO to Judge Judy! Embarassment=pay

You don't know what accts I work on so how can you judge whether or not they are excellent? nm
.
This is a person who finds it SO easy to judge
and assume, and preach - that because HER life works, everyone else's should as well. Got a news bulletin for the OP - there is NOTHING mature about posting a one size fits all philosophy with a 'holier than thou' tone to boot.

Perhaps the OP doesn't realize this about people who fall from financial security so that a new pay schedule can be devastating: There but for the grace of God go you.'

There are also POSITIVE posts about this company!
The owners are not mean.  They are very friendly and caring. The company has a load of work.  They are having pay problems right now, but are working to solve the problem.  They are upfront and honest. One must remember that a poor attitude can affect any nice person.  This "viper pit" of a board is certainly proof of that.
Just because someone posts positives about a company....sm

doesn't mean they're in management, and you're presuming that someone who posts a positive is a manager is pretty ludicrious.  There are plenty of MTs out there happy with their employer... even some folks happy with MQ even with all of the legal problems that company has ongoing.

Unless someone makes a statement about someone in particular at a company that is completely false then there would be no reason for anyone to request a trace to find out who a poster is.  For example, on most internet boards anywhere you can say something like "XYZ company stinks" and be OK, but if you said something like "XYZ's payroll department paid me only a fraction of my earnings and failed to correct the problem" without proof to support your statement then you could be potentially held liable for posting false information.   If you did have proof of in this instance a payroll problem and proof of where it was attempted to be resolved then you'd be safe.

Why is it that when anyone has anything good to say about a company, there are always the posts sm

turn the whole thread ugly.  Then the posts are all removed, and the company looks bad because the good was removed with the bad.  Yes, Keystrokes pays to have an ad on this forum but it is just an advertisement like the ones we have on other medical sites, in magazines, at trade shows and in other publications.

I am going to set the record straight for those who are intersted.  If you are not, ignore the post.

Keystrokes has grown from 5 to over 200 transcriptionists, from $50,000 in revenue to over $5 million dollars in revenue in 8 years, with the majority of the increase in the past 3 years.  This is public knowledge, available on the website, Inc Magazine site, Aspatore books, etc. so there is no reason to delete this.

We have 100% account retention.  We recently declined meeting the price of an offshore company when a few of our radiology accounts went to voice recognition in the same health system.  We chose not to do voice recognition with them by not meeting an outragiously low price.  We do not outsource and stand firm on that regardless of what other do.

Keystrokes has been changing over the past three years, not disputed, but the changes benefit the MTs more than anyone.  Our rates are higher than many (not all) companies, our schedules have some flexibility, our managers are all MTs.

We have caught a lot of grief on this board for various reasons, and a lot of it seems to be from the same few people.  Or from those who talk nonsense.  I truly hope that people reading these negative posts see sour grapes when they read them and understand.  Yes, there are some bitter people out there but they are ones that either did not make it through the initial period, have poor quality, have zero reliability, have made gross patient care errors or have breached HIPAA regulations.  Yes, there has been a turnover, but we have a great team in place and those who work at Keystrokes like/love working there.

We have heard that only a very small percentage of transcriptionists actually visit the MT websites for anything other than the job openings.  A big reason is the pettiness and ugliness that the posts seem to bring out.  Another is time.  A lot of MTs work on computers all day long and want to spend off work time off their computer.

If you have questions about Keystrokes, go to the company for answers.

I defend the company that I work for but have made a promise to myself to stop visiting here and two other sites because they really just take up time that should be spent on other things.  I hate that the bashers will still be bashers and that no one can defend a company (any company) without being attacked.  So the bashers are the only ones that post.  I wish you all the best and rest assured, Keystrokes will continue to grow as a national presence, and will continue to attract customers and MTs and will continue to make both very happy.

I have. The company I work for now posts when
they have openings, but I was hired before they started posting.  I'm going on 6 years now with this company.   I have also received 2 other offers from smaller companies that don't post.
No company is able to remove posts. (SM)
Only the Administrator and moderators, such as myself, have the ability to do so.

Please take up your questions with the Administrator.

Not many posts cause small company

You didn't say if you interviewed for acute care or clinic.  There is not much chatter on this board because Axolotl is a small company.  About 20 to 25 acute care and 20 to 25 clinic MTs.

Your questions:

Platform: can be slow depending on your accounts

Incentives: none to speak of besides overtime

Benefits: comparable to good.  Depends on what you need

Communication:  Average

Flexibility:  If you comit to working 7 am to 3 pm you better be there are 7 am.  If you don't call in they might call you to find out where you are because they are so small and need everyone to be there when they say because of turn around time.   No timeclock to speak of so you can work as long as you want to get in your 1200 lines per day if there is work.  When there is no work you have to leave after your shift even if you have not gotten your minimum lines in.

ESL:  If you are acute care you could get stuck on a couple of really nasty ESL accounts where you can go for several days getting mostly ESL and not enough others to average out the lines.  So if you are not real strong and love to do ESL getting lines in may be a problem during an 8 hour shift even after several months.

Like any company everyone's experience is different.  What is great for one may be a disaster for another.  I have been with them less than 9 months and there seem to have been quite a few MTs whose names seem to suddenly disappear so it seems like Axolotl may not have been a good fit for those MTs.

If you have other specific questions, you can E-Mail me.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
