You have your opinion.

I agree with the OP, though.

You sound disgruntled; no wonder you weren't promoted from within... sm
sounds like sour grapes. Since when does top management share the internal workings and all the goings on with employees?
Post from 2 yrs ago said very bad sound quality, low pay, & very difficult dictators. nm

Disgruntled?
Romey you sound very disgruntled. What happened to you at this company? As far as their way or the highway, what company have you worked for that lets you have it your way? Not trying to sound mean, but each company has their own rules, that's why we have a choice of what company/rules we want to follow. Are you saying you want to decide how you want to work for a company and exactly what you will/will not do for them? Weird...
Disgruntled?! I think not.
A little after the fact, I just saw your post tonight. So, in response, not all things work for all people. Also, thousands of foreign companies have a corporate office in the States so they can operate globally, pay US taxes, work American staff. Even though Focus has an office in Massachusetts, all their equipment and QA and account management is in India. I believe all that is state-side is like sales, recruiting and HR, probably accounting, etc., for the American workers. If the Massachusetts office closed Focus still would be able to operate on their own, they'd just have to get their own accounts (my guess on all this). It's a global partnership. So, here's my thoughts. There's a phrase from somewhere that holds true here, it goes like this: So many people can't be wrong. I'm sure many unsuspecting MTs tried Focus. I did 3 different times! I guess 3rd time was the charm. First two times really had a hard time making any lines though, but then got some of my own local work instead and resigned. The third time I was recruited though, then I made the commitment, this time I'll make it work, but alas it never did. My last go-around was the tie breaker. I really needed an income, they re-recruited me, I was happy to try again. Got reset up and was ready to start work on the startup date. At 6 a.m. I log in and there's no work, none at 8 a.m., 10, 12, 2, 4--nothing all day! That first day came and went without any work ever in my queue to download and type. Next day same thing. Third day same thing. I was in total shock! I could see the rent payment disappearing as the minutes ticked by. I went ahead and tried to get some answers, IM and phone calls to everyone I could, emailed both the recruiter and the guys in India. It took 3 days before somebody let me know that the account I was hired on for wasn't going live for another 3 weeks!

See, that's just a lot more than just complaining about them being in India or being a disgruntled MT. These are serious conditions that can truly (this is how you spell it) mess up your income. The recruiter misrepresented the startup schedule (come to find out she claimed she didn't know the status because India hadn't told her about this account start date). I agree that being in India doesn't seem to matter, nor does the Phillipines or China or anywhere else this stuff goes. The problem with Focus is the recruiters and the managers don't know what the other is doing. I think it's a perfect place if you can just go along with everything, but in my case I couldn't wait three weeks for work. I was offered some pool work while I waited for the major hiring account. I did my first five reports (that's all that's allowed per day during the 5-day trial period). Those reports were returned later to me from QA feedback and I was shocked to discover my original typing had been retyped--with errors. The feedback had those errors corrected and of course my qa and pay was docked because of them. (I know this is true because I saved my originals--why I don't know.)

That was it for me, I truly love the Escription platform but it's not worth it working for them. I've been an MT for 11 years, it's not a lack of skills (I work for myself currently, as well as one terrific online service). And this is totally an opinion of not so much a disgruntled MT, but one that was sincere about doing good work for good pay. In general, I don't think they are rude or evil. The one guy named I---c in India is the best. His new team not so hot. It's just that the different divisions are totally not on the same page, and then the mysterious re-typing done somewhere in the universe, which no one ever responded to my emails and IMs about that! I'm glad it's working out for you. Believe me, I'd be there today if it hadn't been for the above to reasons because of Escription. And, it is true they paid on time. Just sad though. They emailed me for months after I quit trying to woo me back yet again. I'm sure that blind email goes out to hundreds of former MTs who had tried it with them. Best of luck to you. This is way too long, not a bash, just kind of a sad commentary.
Are you sure the sound quality was the platform and not your sound card? Also, I don't know of ma

services that pay "down time" if the platform is inoperational.  ALL software has its share of problems.  It's the nature of the business.  When you were hired, did you sign a contract accepting the terms regarding PTO?  If so, what could you possibly complain about since you did, afterall, sign the agreement?  Did you have a good relationship with your QA Editor/Team Leader that you could ask questions about account specifics?

My understanding of the VR is that it has been in development for a number of years not to be released until the fine tuning was complete.  It would seem to me, and I am in no way affiliated with Transcend, that provided that VR is good then earning a line rate as an Editor would be beneficial, if that's how Transcend is planning to compensate.

All in all, I would say that if anyone is interested in working for Transcend or any service for that matter, make sure to ask the services Recruiter specific questions.  If what you're hearing sounds good and makes sense, go for it.  If what your'e hearing is not all that you thought it would be, move on.  However, you MUST take what you read on forums boards with a grain of salt.  While some posts regarding various services may be legitimate, others may not be.

Good Luck!

MT Manners

I'm an ex-employee and I'm not disgruntled.
This crap exploded after I left and I had kept in contact with people I knew when I worked there and I can assure you it's all true.
I think this is one of those disgruntled employees ......sm
Trying to start something. Anybody with any common sense can see that.

I am certainly not fooled.
obviously the same disgruntled employee from above
x
I'm not a disgruntled MT wanna-be. I'm
and she's a suspicious, condescending, controlling person. She doesn't like anyone she can't keep under thumb.

It's no different discussing her than discussing companies.

Go away if you don't like it, Laurie. We see your rose-colored glasses -- they have a fracture in the lenses, dear! LOL

Alot of BS probably from disgruntled ex
Running out of work? That is the biggest crock of **** I have ever heard. I am so busy right now I don't know in which direction to go. We have so many different hospitals that I don't know which one to do first. Most people that badmouth a company is usually because they could not cut the mustard and got canned in plain English. JLG is one of the top notch companies and one of the best I have ever worked for. They actually care about thier people. You don't find that very often. Anyone who says they ran out of work is just talking out of thier ***
Who is the disgruntled and bitter one here??
I'm honestly not trying to ruffle feathers, just trying to understand where all of the bitterness and pinned up anger comes from on this particular board. I'm a member of some very diverse forums where the topics range from taming naturally curly hair to finding the best vasectomy reversal surgeon. MT Stars is supposed to be a place where professionals can come, share resources, and build one another up. All some people ever seem to come here for is to tear others down. It's really sad to see such hateful, ugly remarks constantly being made at MTs just for asking a question. If you don't have anything positive or beneficial to bring to the board, why post at all? What do you gain by posting insults hidden by an alias??

Is it the isolation of working at home that causes so many otherwise intelligent people to lose the ability to interact in a civil manner? If I ever become as angry as some of the people I've seen here, I'd be making a career change.

Stepping off soapbox now and getting back to work.
Disgruntled employees
I have read on this board that people who post a bad thing about a company are disgruntled employees.  A disgruntled employee would usually be one who has been fired, and no one who posts has been fired.  Usually, they are employed and want advice on a new company or have quit, not been fired.  Most of us know there are a lot of really bad transcription places out there.  Once I saw someone say recruiters post here.  Well, that might be true, who knows, but if they do and say fabulous things about their company, that just isn't fair.  I hope that isn't happening.
not true; are you disgruntled?
nm
You must be disgruntled ex-employee if you cant
x
sounds like your disgruntled
your facts are screwed up Displaced

nothing is going offshore

there is plenty of work coming in and all US accounts

why are you the only one I see on this forum crying about not having a job?
That is incorrect, this is a disgruntled MT..nm
xx
there doesn't mean we are all disgruntled ex-employees ya know

DO NOT BELIEVE "BEWARE" - she obviously was a disgruntled transcriptionist - sm
I have been transcribing for four years for them. Have a large account, and only a couple of times in four years have I had a very slow period (maybe lasting a week or so) where the work was low - but as anyone would know, hospital admissions usually go down in the summertime, docs go on vacations, etc.

They do have a couple of accounts that the HOSPITAL is absolutely picky about, i.e. they want the commas and the periods and the hyphens where they belong and they want the report spelled CORRECTLY. But a hospital has EVERY RIGHT to expect that from a transcription vendor. Maybe "beware" was on one of these accounts and just doesn't know how to transcribe!!
There are disgruntled former employees at any company
if you do your work and do it well you'll be fine at Diskriter.
Your not a disgruntled JLGite. YOUR LUCKY TO BE GONE
I agree. they talk about everyone who is gay, looks fat, is ugly, too skinny, short or bald. Funny, they must not have mirrors. The worst day was when the lowest forms of toilet sludge came from MEdquist. Ruin one and screw up another. It was wonderful before these outsiders came from there. I have been there years and years and have knowledge of JLG and everyone in the company. I work there 7 days a week and trust me they are not what Connie says they are. So get off it. And stop brown-nosing medquist. So your not disgruntled. They will use everyone and when they have used themdry they will do to them what they did to you and 5 others this week.  I dont need to know who you are but be happy your gone. I have to stay cause I have children. If I didnt, they would have kissed my left great toe and the right one years ago.
Sounds like disgruntled ex-employee to me!!!
I have never been chewed out but I have had issues discussed with me.  Some people just cannot take constructive criticism.
Dear DE (disgruntled ex-employee) as per my
x
I'd have to agree with you. Yes, you get a few disgruntled workers who probably
aren't qualified to be doing this work and get reprimanded or just plain unhappy and like to complain, then think twice about their opinion on a company, but for God's sake when people tell you that they aren't not getting paid on time, correct, or AT ALL, why in the world would you consider even taking a job for them.  I agree with the poster in that it does reach a level of stupidity and companies that have those kind of unethic and dishonest tactics just prey on stupid people who should have known better to begin with. I think everyone has a right to voice their opinion and experience, good or bad, and yes, some of it take with a grain of salt BUT if it involves your livelihood, a paycheck, then pay attention. I just don't get people either. Here's your sign
This person is just a disgruntled former employee...sm
I replyed to this message on the main board as well. This person fails to respond there as well. I have been with Medware for over 3 years and it is a GREAT company to work for. They have made some changes over the past 1-1/2 years, but the changes benefit the MTs, so I am VERY happy here...pay on time every time, great pay, good benefits, great management...etc. JMO!!
This person is a disgruntled former employee...sm
I replied to this on the main board as well. Medware is a GREAT place to work. I have been with them for over 3 years. There have been a lot of changes over the last 1-1/2 years but so far, it has benefited us MTs. I am still waiting for this person to say WHY also, but so far, nothing...
Do not call me disgruntled - and do not make a judgment - sm
I am not lying about the people in the OFFICE leaving. Maybe you have the same contacts, but I sure as heck didn't.

NOTE TO MODERATOR: I am not using an angry tone - so please don't delete this.
They have at least 1 very difficult

account that is hard to get lines on.   They also have a weird platform.  There are 3 files for every dictation, 2 of which you have to open.  They supposedly give you a percentage of lines to allow for that, but I think it is a bunch of garbage.   I currently work where there is no platform, we type in Word or WordPerfect 5.1, whichever we are most comfortable with and we have a macro to put in all the demographics - all we have to type is patient's name.   I don't understand if my company can make it simple why the others can't.

You didn't ask, but Precyse offshores, if they tell you something get it in writing because there is little truth in it.  Communication is very poor.

Not too difficult
With someone with your mentality--like shooting fish in a barrel. (Do try to get over it.)
Very difficult to say unless
you know what the system is like, the dictators, the quality of the MTs, etc.  3.5 is not a great line rate but you can make some money if you are only filling in blanks and can get in and out of the reports pretty easy.  I was offered 5 cpl once but the dictators were so horrible and the MTs so horrible and the system so slow I went broke immediately and quit.  There is a learning curve obviously but sometimes you know immediately it won't get much better. Good luck!  The very best way is an hourly rate but most companies not willing to pay that.
I did it! It is not that difficult...
a lot of it will probably come back to you. Allow yourself a week or so to pick up speed, but I think you will be fine.
Same here. It's very difficult to get anymore than 200 lph
Am considering quitting also. Have averaged 300-400 lph at any other place I've worked. I also agree with you about the emailing bit. After every update about how much work is on the system, it's ALWAYS followed by an email from the owner about a minute later telling you to either stretch more or threatening you with their PRN Program or that you'll lose the work to offshoring, etc., etc...

Have nothing against anyone there, but I very rarely ever break 200 lph working on their hospital accounts. Bayscribe definitely gives low line counts.
If you only do 100 lph cause of a difficult doc then its a whole 8.80 an hour...

Difficult dictators?
So MDI-FL and WebMedx both have decent health insurance for a decent price? And what do we have to do to get that? Are they all ESL? Or do they truly have decent dictators where you can make some money.  I have done very few ESL. What typing speed are they looking for?
it's difficult, but it comes down to self-discipline
Like you, I started at MT when I had my first newborn in the house. He's 18 now. All told, I have three boys, ages 18, 17 and 16 living in my house, and my husband. My home office is in my walk-thru pantry. We have a straight-thru house, so one has to walk through my work area to get into the kitchen, and all those growing males have to visit the kitchen often. In addition, I apparently have the hang out house, and there are usually a good number of other young people at my house most afternoons and weekends. That is one thing that I love, though. It's good to know what my boys and their friends are up to.
Over the years I've worked hard to establish boundaries. It WAS hard in the beginning to let the phone calls go. It was difficult to turn friends and family away from the door, but it had to be done. I had the same problems as you. I was up all night, production was low, etc.
I didn't resort to renting office space, I just got mean, I suppose. My answering machine message said that I was working and would return personal calls after business hours. These days, I have caller ID, so I can check the number of incoming calls. I answer calls from school, work or from my children and husband. That's it. Other calls go to voicemail. I changed the locks on the doors, and did not give keys to my family or neighbors. I had a few arguments with them, and used a very stern voice. I'm busy. I'm working. It's no different than anyone else who works in an office away from home.
I do, however, get up from my chair fairly often to avoid edema problems. I will throw in one load of laundry, wash a dish or two, run the vacuum in one room, or even scrub a toilet. But I get up and do only one quick chore at a time. No t.v., no radio, etc.
It's difficult, and it takes some perseverence and certainly self-control to establish boundaries and good at-home work habits.
Good luck with your new office. For me, though, I would not want to work to pay rent for an office when I have free office space at home.
I agree with you. It's not that difficult IF - sm
you TRULY are an experienced MT.  I am not talking about the I have 20 years doing neurology or I have been doing op notes for 15 years. MT.  I mean the MT who can, no matter what comes up next, DO THE WORK and do it well.  Everyone has to leave a blank every once in a while, but I believe there are a lot of people out there doing this job who cannot turn in even 1 job without a blank in it.  They have limited experience, trying to pass it off as acute care/teaching hospital experience and when they get the actual work, boy does it show.
I find this very difficult to believe.
//
I am with Axolotl. There is nothing difficult sm
about using Notes. They also have Speed Type with it for an expander.

Please apply! We have so much work! Seems so many places have been slow since Christmas and New Year, but it has been the exact opposite for us! The account I am on used to just be discharge summaries, but we have now taken over their consults and ops as well.
They are difficult accounts, and they have not
been able to hold anyone on these accounts for some reason. They've had these accounts for quite awhile, so I'm thinking that in order to keep the client happy, they must be offshoring the account again. They will do that from time to time. I'm glad I'm off of it. I was not making my lines on the Michigan account.
VR and difficult dictatoirs
I saw your post and would like to tell you and anyone else, do not get your hopes up high that VR will not work because of difficult doctors. I know for a fact. I work on VR and some straight and I would have never believed it but I personally think VR works even better sometimes with most of the difficult ones than with our better speaking dictators. Why, ? who knows. I myself was under the same thought when we were told were going on VR, oh, it will never work with so and so. It does and very efficiently on the VR I work with.
98.9% QA is NOT that difficult to attain -
Nor should it be if you are a quality-minded MT. I don't understand the negative about this company just over the QA. Their rate may seem low, but the 7 cpl rate is for clinic work, which in my opinion is much easier and deserves a lower rate! The acute-care rate is comparable with other companies nationwide.

I must point out that there are pros and cons to every company nationwide and that no company is a fit for all MTs. Compared to other nationals, however, this one is way above average, in my opinion. I'm sure I'll get bashed for this, but that's okay - I'm hauling money to the bank each and every paycheck!
not a difficult transition
Having trained MTs from DQS to ExText I can safely tell you that it is not a difficult transition. There are many similarities and it is doable. Never be afraid to take a leap of faith, it could change your life. It changed mine.
How difficult is it to get 100+ reports
for radiology on Meditech with ShortHand Expander in one shift?
I would think pretty difficult

IMO..... I think it would be pretty tough, unless the reports are very short (then hopefully you would get paid per report).  I used to work in Meditech and I spent more time filling in the demo screen than typing the reports!  I don't think MediTech is Radiology-friendly (IMO) unless the reports have some meat on them!  Also depends on the version of MediTech, some have the autofill and some you have to fill in every blasted box.

So far they are fine and not that difficult

Yes - sounds like you are the one having the difficult time -......
must be you who got the axe! Maybe you should spend your time looking for another job and praying you get one.
Thanks for the info.. Is your account difficult?
I read some earlier posts about a high turnover and the hospital being too picky..what do you think?
Was the test really difficult? How bad are their ESL dictators?
x
I tried it also..platform too difficult to navigate..nm

Is this what you mean by difficult or high maintenance? lol
:+
How easy or difficult is it to meet your
line requirements with their accounts and typing platform?
Has anyone tested with DRC and is it a difficult test? Thanks nm
