Garbage in - garbage out! Anyone but a vendor will admit that cutting a transcriptionist/editor's pay to 3 to 4 cents per line under the assumption that you can produce 2 to 3 times as many lines per hour is just not appropriate. Many of these back-end systems are not are not set up by the vendor to decipher the multiple dictators at a large facility, so that the initial draft report is just loaded with errors. For many MTs, it would be faster to transcribe the report than to clean up the mess. It takes the same knowledge as an MT to be a speech rec editor, plus additional skills to now correct that report. But the Editor should take a cut in pay?
