Jennifer, you are not alone. I worked as a staff employee when they
were Healthscribe, and I can tell you this - and I will swear to it in a court of law and on a Bible - and can show the proof should it ever come to that - they alter the lines. So say for instance, you get a 14 minute H&P and it comes out to let's say three pages. Whereas, a normal line count might be - just for the sake of argument let's say 100 lines to make it easy - Healthscribe/Spheris would credit the Transcriptionist about 90 lines. If a transcriptionist sent a report to QA, after so many reports, QA would start to dock lines from the transcriptionist.

The accounts were very, very difficult. I worked in the relations aspect of the company, if the client had any complaints or problems, I dealt with them. The accounts were basically the hospitals that no one even wanted to work in - inner city hospitals with lots of foreigners dictating.

I had to deal with the offshoring accounts and transcriptionists in the US that had to retype or edit - however you wish to put it - very very frustrating - won't even delve into it.

Jennifer, I realize that you are new in this field, but there has got to be a better place for you to learn and get your feet wet. Have you tried your local hospital or clinic in your area? Try a small company instead of a national. Smaller companies might have more of a mentoring side to their company, nicer accounts, easier to deal with. I hope this helps. Good luck
yes, about five yr ago, not a good exp, very rude staff...nm

Comments on this board from 12/2005 said staff was overwhelmed and had no time to help their MTs.
b
...appreciative of their employees..typo
:)
You made a good choice. The staff is great, program simple. Welcome! nm

The staff and the attitudes of the staff. Very helpful, cheerful. (sm)
They seem to work extremely hard to balance everything out, enough work, enough MTs and always making sure they let the MTs know they are a valuable asset to the company. That means a lot. Not to mention the bennies are pretty good, too.
Been there 9 months and LOVE it!!! Plenty of work, good platform, great staff.
I finally found a home.
I've been there quite a while, pay on time, growth spurt right now, so good time to get on board,
new accounts and lots of work, and before someone says it, I'm not management, just an employee.
Full time employee.
That is supposed to be the norm for VA accounts if you do all work types.
and....they always pay on time....4-year employee--nm
nm
From time to time those paper checks aren't good!

Personally, DSG is a good fit for me. Pay is good and on time, sound quality depends on the account
and I like the platform. There is not much weekend work, although sometimes is available.  I get along well with the management, no major complaints.  There is pay incentive once you get over a certain number of lines in a pay period.  I work as an IC, so can't help with benefits, insurance questions, etc.
Does anyone recommend a pretty good company that is good to work for, pay always on time and plenty
of work.  I know that is asking a lot, but just curious?
Hi, I'm a full-time MQ employee in Georgia...

I work in Georgia out of a California MQ office,  so you would need to check if every MQ office offers the same options for everyone in each state (I believe they do).  My office just switched over to United Health Care EPO in Georgia, which seems to be very good coverage ($15 office copay, 100% for labs, $500 copay for inpatient hospitalization, good drug coverage).  Employee contribution for single coverage is about $90/month.  Dental insurance is about $17/month.  MQ now offers life insurance, short- and long-term disability for FT employees, as well.  I've really liked the way their benefits package has evolved over the last few years.  I know MQ is going through a lot of challenges right now, but they've treated me well and have been an excellent fit for me.  I'm hoping the best for them and the rest of my fellow MQers.  From what I gather, situations may vary from office to office, so research yours thoroughly.

Hope this was helpful.  The corporate number is 800-233-3030 if you need to speak with a recruiter for more info.

(FWIW, I'm not a member of MQ management--just a satisfied MT :)

Part-time...statutory; used to be PT employee. (NM)
..
Are you full time? National? employee or

IC??

Wondering minds want to know!

Thanks.

I had a hard time as a statutory employee, but
now that I am a regular employee and have to have a set schedule I am WAYYYYY more disciplined. I guess I actually needed that boss hanging over me (not literally, LOL) to make sure I work and make $$$$$. Best of luck to you.
Most of my experiences have been as a part-time employee, so that may be different. sm

However, here is my take on things:

YOG -- Loved it there!  I made great money, good benefits, and was left alone to do my job.  Unfortunately, the owner sold out to MQ.

MQ -- Never worked there full time as I quit the day they bought YOG.  However, at one point I had worked there part time and I ran out of work 3 days in a row while training and no one cared.  Didn't take long for me to say goodbye, plus I was put off by their attitude at the time that people inhouse got more benefits than those working at home as they said working at home was a benefit.

WestTran -- great owner, uses Iscriptor (easy to use).  A few bad dictators, but generally not bad.  Only downside was not having direct deposit, but checks were always mailed on time.

Webmedx -- not a good experience for me, but it did look like they had a nice benefit package for FT employees.  I found the Enterprise system to be slow and cumbersome.  I used to type 300-350 lph, but typing as fast and furious as I could, never made it past 240 on their system.  Sound quality was awful, ran out of work, and supervisor was indifferent.

DTS in Oklahoma -- great people, but was working on an overflow account that used MedRite.  What an awful platform!  I would type and sit and watch it try to catch up with me.  Slow and cumbersome.  And no direct deposit.

TransTech -- great people, nice benefits at the time, pay so-so but good incentive tier.

MDI-MD -- great pay at the time because they were compensating for the MT having to pay for LD.  Ran out of work at times, but eventually got up to 5 accounts and was able to bounce back and forth and got my lines.   Direct deposit, always on time.  Down side is statutory employee and have to mess with the taxes thing.

CardioScribes -- great people, all cardiology clinics.  Direct deposit, but uncertain pay days, although you always do get paid.  Work for me has been slow, although I see ads advertising for more help, so that is frustrating.  Also IC work, which is a down side for me anymore.

Encompass -- I am just starting there part-time, but everyone I have encountered has been friendly and helpful.  The dictation so far has been easy.  They offer direct deposit and even some benefits for those working part-time.

eTransPlus -- I will be starting there full time.  I have not done any actual work so far, so cannot comment on that, but the benefit package seems nice and the incentive tier seems easy to achieve.  They offer direct deposit.  Right now, they are offering a sign-on bonus, so that is a nice plus.

I have been around for 100 years or so, so I probably have forgotten some, but that is my experience that I can remember.  Of course, everyone's experience is personal.  As I have said before, one person's hell is another man's heaven.

Good luck to us all in finding a place we want to call home.

Only full-time employee status
NM
full-time employee, but started out statutory (sm)
Good luck and I'm glad you're giving MQ a chance.  I think you will be pleasantly suprised. I know I was.  I was kind of disappointed when they called me back, but I really needed a job, so I took it, and four years later, I'm very happy! Good luck to ya!
Medquist Part-Time and new employee training
How many hours per week does Medquist require for part-time employee?  Currently have a full-time job but looking to supplement with part-time transcription position.  How is training for new employees?  Can this be done at night?  Was offered position with Spheris but training was M-F 8-5, so wasn't able to accept due to the training requirements. Also, is training paid at MedQuist?
When is an SE allowed to change to employee (full-time) status?

Is it 11/01/2005 ?????

Thanks so much for informing us who have not received the packet as of yet.

Good employee on the job seeker's board --

If you're interested in working weekends, I see Jessica Reeves from Amerimed has a job posted.  From my experience, she is very good to work for.

There are 2 sides to every story. If you were a good employee, sm

if you called the office and told them that you had a medical emergency, there is no way on this green earth that they would lock you out of your account for that reason.  Absurd.  I've had to leave work due to illness.  That's part of life.  TransHealth is extremely accommodating.

There is more to the OP's story than meets the eye.

It is good for employee, horrible for IC. Why no benefits? sm
There are too many companies out there (Keystrokes, WebMedx, etc) that will pay 9 cpl and have benefits. Don't sell yourself short. You have 10+ years and know the Basic 4. You should get employee status, at least 8.5 cpl and full benefits including PTO and insurance.
Was there a short time last year. You work as an employee, not IC. Different software/diff. accts.
s
Is 9cpl a good pay for employee position with benefits?
Trying to make comparisons.  Thanks
Which companies offer PTO for part time employee status, along with contributing 401K, shift....sm
differentials, and incentive based pay plan?  I think I covered it all.  Mostly looking for PTO as a part time employee.  Thanks for your replies.
I don't think now is a good time to look because of the
slow down. I left MQ in late July and had 4 interviews and job offers the first week of sending out resumes. Now, I think it would be a little slower with the glut of MTs looking and the time of year.
IC positions only but the pay is good and always on time-sm

easy system and dictators are all pretty good (from what I have had anyway).  I do mostly ops and discharges for them but they have ER and other stuff too.

Paid on time, but not good.
;;
BEWARE, this is not a good time to be at OSi
They are having a major shakeup and have been firing upper crust for multiple reasons, violating the privacy of MTs and other extremely uncouth things.

Aside from that - the same old, same old - Big I and Little You. They still don't give a fig about the MTs. They like the fancy titles but don't live up to the fancy titles, don't know how to schedule, and try to gyp you at every turn, with falsifying time sheets only one way of accomplishing that!!!
I don't think now is a good time to look for work anywhere
over the holidays. On the other hand, people tend to get really ill over the holidays, and unfortunately, mortality rate goes up. It's just the docs are busy, and of course have their minds on their families too and the time they are taking off from work.
In 27 years of transcribing this has always proven true. It may get slow now, after the docs get the notices from medical records they are soon out of compliance, there will be a flurry of reports just about to be over a month old. So please hang in there. And if you need extra money there is always the ability to help in retail. Especially the chains which will be having big sales. They need extra help. Good luck to you!
Are there any good companies that pay on time?
looking
ROI - Good company, pay always on time.
One drawback is scheduling. Although you are an IC, they treat you like an employee. Monitor when you start and end your shift and any breaks you take. If that's not a problem for you, then give them a try.
I had a good time but I struggled in the
70s when I was working 13 hour days and weekends to boot to support 2 kids in school, divorced mother. I hate being poor and I did not start transcription until 1973, by the 80s making a gold mine at it, outsourcing, outsourcing and now in the golden years working 4 days a week, just tired with fibro and thyroid problem. I make no excuses for now because I have done without in my earlier years.
I work there and love it. Good pay and always on time.
I don't take the health insurance, so can't speak about that. The people are very friendly and helpful.
Good company, pay on time, seems like a lot of work. nm
nm
Sorry you had a bad time with them. Hope you found a good fit elsewhere. nm
nm
Seems like the good ones are staying a long time
I know many who have been there 2, 3, and some 4 years. Volumes are up right now, and we've had several new accounts go live in the last couple of months as well.
I have been with co for a long time. I have it pretty good, but new
xx
A lot of OT on my acct, supes are good, pay on time.
nm
Is this a good time to apply at Transtech?

TransTech - they are hiring now, good time
....
I tried several other companies, good ones, but it was like regressing in time! Not worth it!
You won't be shuffling thru papers, trying to find doctors names, etc.  Its a fast platform. I never realized how much I loved it til I tried "greener pastures", which sure were not greener! Felt like the horse with my head stuck thru the fence, but luckily I got back in my own pasture! There's no place like home, there's no place like home...Good luck to you!!
Good, decent company. Pay on time. Low on work. nm
x
As far as I know, IC only. Very steady work flow. Pay is good and on time.

Great lady to work for.

Just good ears developed over time, familiarity...sm
with the dictator and/or access to doc's past reports.
Anyone know if Accustat is a good company and pays on time?

Curious

GOOD COMPANY FOR PART-TIME WORK?

Anyone know of a good company willing to hire for part-time work?  I'm not familiar with the majority of the companies looking to hire on here.  Thanks !

Of course we do. This will make time #5 that I do just that. Glad you have good luck.
Not everybody does. Ummm...you do know you don't always get what you ask for/want, right? And if you try sometimes, you still don't get what you need.
