I was with MQ during their debacle and did not want to get hit again, so I went with a small local company. They are rare but they do exist. And they actually have a heart and recognize that we are people. Good luck to you. I think you are wise to get the ducks in a row!

My tax lawyer told me they CANNOT by law ask you to commit to certain times if you are an IC. That includes this business of asking you what hours you will cover stats. He says the IRS would raise holy bumpkins about this. He said if they are coming to ask you to adhere to a schedule, let them start paying you benefits. Like you, I am irritated.

IMHO, the reason they are not telling you the pay rate is because they know you will jump ship if you know. If you wait until January, there will be so many MTs on the job market hunting that you will have a tougher time getting a decent gig. They are banking on that and that you will have to stay out of sheer desperation. Just my thought on it, based on how they behaved in the past (not telling us what was going on when there was not enough work, etc.) You can bet the rent they are not going to increase your pay--or even leave it at what it is now. Wait and see. And yes, it is their company and they have the right to run it any way they see fit, but it cost them their credibility with me.

If people liked MQ, they will love Transcend. Smaller company, same playbook. Nuff said.

It is kind of the luck of the draw whom to trust. This small company is actually owned by a friend who told me if I were ever available to call her, so I did and now I do overflow for them. My advice would be to apply to many places (after having researched them, of course) and see what happens. Plant a lot of seeds and maybe one or two of them will grow. Or maybe they all will. As far as trust issues, I trusted MDI implicitly--who could have known this would happen? While I support any MTSO's right to do whatever they want with the company they created, I do not think the duplicity of not telling us why there was no work for so long was the right thing to do. I have no hard feelings. We all have our ideas and standards and I just felt that this was a good time to move on. My family took quit a hit due to the MDI lack of work and was not willing to go into the holidays like that. Too many people to provide for. Keep looking. Don't get discouraged. There are good companies out there. Speaking for myself only (I am sure others will disagree and that is okay), I will never again go with a large company. I think you are much more apt to be treated like a person with smaller MTSOs. Good luck to all MDI/Transcend!
I can relate. Out of everything you said, what always irritated me most..sm
is when doctors cannot take the extra few seconds to offer demographics when they are right there in front of them on the chart. I have also spent so much worthless and unpaid time searching for spellings and addresses for referring physicians, etc. The sad part is that I know for a fact that these doctors had the charts directly in front of them to offer that information, but instead chose to skip over that information. To this day with a national, I still have this problem. The only good thing was having my own local clients, and getting to the point of being able to say enough is enough and ask them to please include spellings and addresses of doctors in their dictation if available. It was amazing after several requests how much more efficient I could be as an MT when they provided this information. I wish the personnel who were in charge of establishing and maintaining clients could make this a mandatory part of dictating a medical report. I understand there are cases when the doctor does not have this information available, but I have learned that more times than none, it is right in front of them. If I operated a transcription service again, this would be mandatory from my clients. It's really not that big of a deal, and enables the Transcriptionist to do their job, which is transcribing not searching address databases on the internet or trying to figure out how to spell Dr. Toomelahubab.

Someone should compile a list of these and shoot them off to MDI. Of course, their spies are probably monitoring this board.
