Why I chose MT....
plain and simple I wanted to be home for my children...I worked in-house before I worked at home and am so glad to be working at home...the pros definitely outway the cons....My husband works in sales/delivery and his bennies are awesome..only pays about 30.00 a week for the 4 of us...I am able to work part-time right now because of him...will eventually go back to full-time and more money when my baby is a bit older, only 12 weeks old now...
not sure who you chose but...
Webmedx was wonderful...I worked for them before having my children and absolutely loved them...I needed to cut hours way back so I resigned but I hope to go back as soon as my kids are older.
No they can't just no you can chose to say no to

You are working for them so the client is their client and not yours, hence they can say when they want the work done, but you can say no, I won't do it then.  So then, they look for someone else.  Unfortunate, but true especially in this profession.  Setting hours goes against my grain as an IC.  I stay away from those types of positions.  Set hours/days, etc. are for employees not ICs, but you can chose not to take their offer.

You should of chose a better
husband if you wanted to be SAHM, plain and simple. Don't play the women's libber's. Where do you live, Utah?
Why do you think because you chose to
work 3rd shift that everyone should? Should we not have a choice? Why force your own choices on everyone else? Should we all freak on you because you say you don't work weekends? It's the same thing... Live and let live....

If was YOU who chose to take on those duties. sm
And it is YOU who decided to take on these duties.  If all owners of transcription companies, big and small, would demand higher pay from clients, and not try to undercut each other, they could pay higher wages.  And don't moan about then jobs would be offshored.  If clients had to get these jobs straight from overseas with no US editing, offshoring would stop immediately.
You are welcome, I chose IC at Medware
as I do not need the insurance.  Plus I have always been an IC and I feel more comfortable with that than being an employee, not only at Medware but at other places.  I stay busy at Medware so they definately have the work.  It's what works best for me right now.
Why I chose transcription..

First off, I do not have a spouse or a significant other.

I went back to a local college to take a transcription course for a few reasons.  First, I was working for a credit reporting agency for $5.00 an hour (15 years ago), and to put it bluntly, found out I just could not deal working with the public, especially in the setting where a good percentage of the people you deal with are irate.  One of my coworkers mentioned medical transcription, and it sounded perfect for me.  I could sit in my own little corner, do my work, and be left alone for the most part.  Plus, where I live it is super cheap to live and I was making a lot more money than I did before, allowing me to save up and have a down payment for my house.  I had the opportunity back then to type nothing but ERs and I took full advantage of it, working 6 days a week, and there was never a shortage of work.

It was never my choice to work at home.  I do miss the interaction with and meeting new people through work.  Now I never see an ER note, the work keeps getting tougher with more ESL's, and the pay is going down along with the benefits.  Also, someone in India is now typing my favorite account.

I chose transcription

because I loved the medical field (worked at 2 hospitals in the admissions department), but was tired of the politics at work, and having to work with 20+ hormonal, gossipy women in one department.  I also wanted something with less patient contact - it was heartbreaking getting to know someone who came in every day for radiation treatments or something similar, and finding out that they only had 2 weeks to live or something.  It was awful!  SO, I started looking into transcription as something I could do from home - which is perfect for me too, because now I can work all day by myself  (with my dogs to keep me company).  I don't mind working at home all day without people contact - I almost prefer it that way.  I have become a less stressed person for it.

My DH worked as a truck driver/heavy equipment operator before, but needed to find something less stressful on his body.  He had built me a massage table for my birthday after we first got married (almost 8 years ago), and then took a course in massage at the local college.  He loved it, and decided that was what he wanted to do full-time; so he went to school for it, and now he has his own business as a massage therapist.  As he is self-employed, he doesn't get any benefits, so we have individual insurance coverage for both of us.  I am actually going to be working for a new company soon that does offer some benefits, so I will at least be covered under group coverage.  He will continue with the individual coverage, as it is cheaper.

why I chose transcription
I actually swore I would never do transcription after going through a tech school for Medical Secretary diploma. Hated it. Only job I could find was transcription. I actually left the field for a few years to work at a bank. But then, when I had to take that beautiful baby daughter of mine to a sitter 45 hours a week, I decided to come back to transcription (never left it COMPLETELY, always Filled in), so I could be home with our kids. It was important to both my husband and I, but could not handle it financially without me working. I would not trade it for the world, as I have seen my kids through everything. I know my children, they know me, they know they can come to me. I am there every morning and every afternoon . . . would not miss these memories for the world. It got REALLY tought at times, but well worth it. It's all about the children.
Landmark vs MDI...which do I chose?

Landmark only does transcription which is a positive IMO. I would be doing only operative notes (which is my favorite work type) and would be an IC so my schedule would be flexible. No required line count per day. The only thing holding me back is I'm afraid of running out of work (I'm coming from MQ where I have a cesspool to chose from and rarely run out). I would be working on Bayscribe. I could also work 4 days a week (I'm part-time).

I also have an interview next week with MDI. For some reason I have a sense with them it's more secure. Maybe because I see more posts about them and that they are a larger company?

Thanks!

I'm really surprised they chose you
I've read your posts about TT and they seem rather rational and benign. I wonder why they would choose you over, say, that one who posts on here in all caps saying they are 'stealing' her lines and other rants which could be construed as libelous if she has no proof of her claims.

I'm sitting here kind of shaking my head wondering why they picked you, unless you were the most easily identifiable.

Is anyone else named in the suit, or is it just you?
If you need benefits, you chose correctly.
z
I chose to stick with Clinic.....sm
because, in my experience, they are almost always closed or at least very, very slow on holidays.

So, over the years I decided I wanted a M-F schedule with holidays off. That's why I stick with Clinic notes.

Good luck!
Well there are other MTs who just applied that have said they have to clock in and out and chose
not to get into that so not sure why some do and some dont.  Maybe different recruiters.  Cant answer that.
Have any of you MDI employees lost your job or chose.. sm
to leave since they switched some accounts to VR?  I was thinking of applying but unsure now after reading about the VR switch on some accounts.  I wondered how many employees are affected by it and whether or not to consider applying as I am only interested in straight transcription and not VR.
well if you chose to work for a company sm
where you had to find your own replacement that was your choice. This poster did not and she should not be treated like that.

You sound like you are bitter because of your situation. Don't push it off on this poster. Folks like you are the kind that run these companies that treat people like this. I ahve worked in-house with folks like you and that is why I got out of in-house years and years ago! Never regretted it and have made a good living all these years.
sorry...if I chose not to take the benefits as I don't need them. Never heard back. nm
s
OK - your other post said you chose this account because of the challenge
nm
A job is not an afterthought to me. I had a FT MT job before my children and CHOSE to work PT so I

can enjoy them.  I think anyone with children can understand that.  I do take my job seriously and work and am a high producer.  I enjoy my job but I also enjoy my other FT job, which is my children!

I am so glad, so very glad that finally I have reached
the age that if we are low on work, I just take off. No problem at all and love the extra day or so off. I now have worked since the 70s and finally made to retirement age, get SS plus other retirement money coming in and thank the good Lord do not have to worry about if there is work or not. BTW, when I worked inhouse never ran out of work ever, only when transferring out to company do they run out of work. If I had to raise a family now I would most certainly cross train on other accts at my place but only have 1 that I work on, by choice.
This year they chose one that really is a good company to work for. nm
nm
Wrong. Companies chose to or not to offshore work, nobody makes them. sm
My company does not offshore work, absolutely will not. We've actually gained/kept accounts assuring clients that we do not. We have many clients, cutting edge technology for both customer and employee, a healthy growth rate and a high MT retention rate. It's not impossible to have a successful USA-only based company. Sadly that may not be the norm anymore, but it's a choice MTSO/CEOs (whatever they may be) make and in my opinion maybe cutting some of the bottom line and offshoring is being done in place of producing a high quality of work that keeps a customer happy and not looking around for other service options. Subsequently I think these companies then suffer inferior work further because they are paying less and/or maybe have contractural obligations. Personally I'd like to think they'd still prefer high quality to low prices and inferior product. I have to wonder if these offshore companies are losing just as many accounts because of their product. I just know I am glad I work for a company who doesn't outsource, doesn't plan to, and has every intention to remain successful because quality does count.
I have talked to MANY DSG workers who are badly treated. I chose to move on when I had enough!
Feel sorry for those who are miserable and stay anyway.
That is one of many reasons why I chose to work at home! No thanks to in-house! Good luck. nm

Thanks! I'm glad to hear that, I didn't think anyone used it anymore! I'm glad to hear so
I'll definitely check them out!
I lost an acct with MQ, called the hospital and they told me who had the acct. I chose not to go wi

we will be glad to use our
after we find another job
I'm glad I could help.
I am an MT, before I get accused of being in a managerial position.
YW...glad I could help :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one
When I was hired two years ago, I gave a set schedule as an SE (with every intention of following it), but right from the beginning I had to adjust it because of no work being available.  Since then, I pretty much do what I want to.  Thank goodness I work for a good office and they don't bother me much, but all the talk about the changes coming are worrying me.  If they make me work a set schedule, I may just fly the coop, because I know there will never be work available during my shift.
I am glad you think so
You must be in management and not an MT or ME.

I have never had so many problems with MQ since being transferred to Amherst. Yes, there it is again, AMHERST. I am exhausted after my 40 hour week and feel like I have been typing for 2. I just do not get anywhere. All crappy dictators, and jumping from account to account and running out of work.

You must not do acute care or as it used to be called, medical records, and you must have easy, easy reports. I am making squat for all my aggravation.

Even if the grass wasn't greener on the other side, I would never come back.

I am just holding on until I can find another job and I am looking.

I can't take this garbage anymore.

It is not worth my health, happiness or my family. They all come before this company. It used to be a good company before FRANK came on board.

Can't wait until I can get out of here.

Oh, do you have to work on Thanksgiving and Christmas, if you celebrate that holiday? Just another one more thing to annoy me.
well glad you think so
nm
I want to say I am so glad that (sm)
I am not the only one who cannot stand the company. Every time I post elsewhere (will not say where) I got flamed for saying this is not the absolute best company to work for. Believe me, it is about the worst. Any time a company claims it is the best, that is a red flag IMO.
I am so glad....
I am so glad to hear that! I just got my work computer and am scheduled to start on the 30th :) I have been so nervous because I have had 3 different job offers and chose Spheris.

Glad it is not just me
I thought maybe it was me, but I know I'm able to do more than 150 lph. Been there since summer 05 and wondering how long to stick this out. Demo screens can really slow you down and no compensation for them either. There are so many MTSO out there, where to go??? I don't want to hop from this one to that one again and again.
I am glad I went with them too. I have been there sm
two years. The first year was a little rocky but everything is great now.

My account has only one ESL but a handful of ATROCIOUS American docs. I would prefer a nice accent to speed-demon mush-mouth at this point. I am glad I do not get them often or I would be bald from pulling my hair out!
You will be glad...sm
Pay is on time every other Monday, never had a problem. They are very flexible, as long as you work your scheduled day. I work whenever I want during that day. They never bother you once you're out of QA. Very nice people!
Glad to know this about them
Sounds like stinky pay IF and WHEN you even get paid. I tend to gloss over the too happy to be true posts. That bubble will burst in short order. Things for the realistic info on this company. DELETE!!
Glad for you
Sounds like good news for you and your friends and relatives, but have been here for awhile and so have some others and it has been the same with them also, not just me. Bounced from account to account. I just received an email saying, Congrats for saying what others past and present have not said. That is a fact and says something. I am not making this up to slam anyone. It is the truth. I am sure there are those that a happy, some do not know the difference especially the new ones. It is just a matter of time. Everyone has to decide for themselves, but I can guarantee many just keep on looking.
Welcome!! We are glad to have you.
I really think you will like MDI-FL.
Glad to help. nm
:))
Glad I could help!
I just got my computer today. I'm excited about starting.
Glad to be gone

You are one of the lucky ones to have been paid!!  They like to play games with your money, first by holding it as in your case for weeks after you have gone.   She does not care about payroll being late - and actually sends out emails that she is tired of answering emails, and then her and her manager will literally turn off their IMs, or just not answer.  They are also famous for making you stick to a schedule - regardless if you are an IC, and has her shiftleads call and ask why are you not working - you are on the schedule.  Needless to say - this was a joke of a company, and many people that have gone are still waiting on that final paycheck.  Her favorite comment is it is company policy like she is such a big company, yet she operates out of her home!!.  And her so-called company policy seems to change along with her mood - which is daily.  If you need a paycheck - I would advise to stay away from them.

Sure am glad
Since the administrator has now removed the ads until confirmation from the company, about the only thing I can be glad about is that my resume does have my name and phone number but that is about all, I omitted the name of the company I currently work for, offered to provide for reference at a later date and also did not list reference phone numbers or addresses, just available on request. Unfortunately, I am still naive enough to hope this is a legit ad!!
Am glad you like it there
Some have not been given the promises made. That is why there are some problems, re: vacation pay and I could go into more detail about what happened to me when I told them I was quitting, but no need to bring up old wounds. Obviously they are now starting to appreciate what they have. I worked countless weekends besides my M-F work because I liked what I was doing, but never compensated for it. That is all it would have taken is appreciation and compensation.
Thanks!! Glad to from a KS Rad MT

I too am glad to know I am
not the only one. I have almost 20 years experience. They kept telling me they were going to whittle down my pool at first to 3-5 hospitals and then at least down to 10. They never got below 20. No way to make lines that way. Plus the line counter was set for low line counts.
I'm glad it's going well for you. NM
x
I'm glad I got out of there!
I can't believe that anyone will even still work for them after all of this. I got out of that hole about a year ago and went some place much, much better, and I'm so glad that I did! From what I have read, it's even worse now than it was when I was still there! I can't imagine not being paid for spaces, headers, or footers. Back when I was there, I was at least paid for headers and footers. That's just robbery!
I'm glad to know there are a few (sm)
of us KS here - just to have the relationship with each other - that's all, but I know what you mean. I don't know of any other boards, if anyone does, let us know!
