Editing vs. transcribing.

Why would anyone choose editing?  Is it better pay than transcribing.  Just wondering if that's something I should aim for or stick with training for coding.

TIA

are you transcribing or editing? nm

either way, you're in for a rude awakening.

I'm currently doing a mix of editing and transcribing
There are good points and the not so good points to the editing.

I've been with the company too long to just give up and jump ship without giving it a fair shake tho.

I like editing but I wish the compensation was better.

When I was straight transcribing I was doing a little over 2000 lines per day, approximately 135-170 minutes per day and making darn good money.

Now, with editing thrown into the mix, I do anywhere from 1900 to 3000 lines per day, and approximately 190-230 minutes.

Just my own personal opinion but I think the ones who truly made an improvement in their earnings were those who were maybe doing a little over the minimum required 1100 lines per day to begin with. The higher producers... not so lucky.

I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel yet.
I been getting 13 cpl for editing VR and 18 cpl transcribing. nm

If I get offered more for BOTH the editing and transcribing..
I'll probably take it. Thus far it has been one or the other. Or the insurance offered was unaffordable. Really, Lee Perfect paid me the best for eScription. I was really sad when they no longer had that account.
4 cpl editing/8 cpl transcribing + incentives (New Plan). nm

12 cpl editing; 18 cpl transcribing - not working for a company, but a hospital. nm

Can you make money editing versus transcribing at 3.75?

I really would like to hear the pros and cons of editing versus transcribing the reports.  I have been offered a position with Sten-Tel at 3.75 cpl.  I was told my production would increase and I would make more money.  I really want to make good money, but really do not have anything to compare editing too.  I have never done it before, thus I do not have a good grasp of how it would or would not increase my production.  If anyone can give me a breakdown of the pros and cons at STen-Tel working at 3.75 cpl, or any information on how much you really can make editing, I would have a better understanding.

Thanks

need a clue!

Wanting to know what company is considered one of the "better" places to work for?  I have been offered a few positions, but after looking at the posts here, its kinda scary!  Thanks much!

I don't have a clue.
:)
Does anyone have a clue (those of you that
work for Amphion) why people are cheerleaders for them? They are not that great - the pay is only so-so and the people are not THAT nice. just wondering.
Not a clue....
I have worked for Cymed for a year now. I never received the notice about not receiving a full check. That's all new to me. I have never ever had a problem with payroll, so I have no idea what that whole thing is about. I work out of the Virginia office, so maybe it's different. I have no idea.
you have no clue

If so, have not a clue on this can you
send me an email. I did not want to call a name or a company. I would really appreciate it. Thanks! If this is the 1, I will definitely let you know.
Does anyone have a clue?

Hi all!

I tried searching the archives, but I could not find much.  Anyone have any info on this company based out of Porterville, CA?

TIA!

Well sorry I have no clue about
pay per line cuz I have done this for 10 years being paid per hour so I have no clue honey
Get a clue....
There are no rules here that one must use a moniker...  get over it!  It's offensive to say something is retarded.  Grow up!
Amen to that - and they don't have a clue. nm

Sorry - I guess I have no clue what
I was working on before, I was told it was DEP, but obviously not.
WHEN are companies going to get a clue sm
MTs are the BACKBONE of ALL MT companies. We literally generate every single dime that goes into a company. IT guys don't generate income. QAs don't generate income. The team leaders don't generate income. The fat cats at the top don't generate income. WE DO AND WE ARE THE ONLY ONES!!!

If companies want to make more money, they should not outsource or offshore. They don't need to go to VR either where the equipment is expensive to buy and maintain and you still have to have an MT to edit that crap. No, what they need to look at it how to maximize their MTs. You ask them up front what they can do, what they want to do and where they see their career going. If the company thinks they can make the most of what the MT wants, then go out and keep finding more accounts to make the MTs happy. They will work to build user friendly platforms that are all Word shells, not wonky excuses for a word processing program. They will offer benefits AND IC contracts. They will get QAs out of there who lack people skills and MT skills. They will encourage Expander training and use so that those who mistakenly think that autocorrect is an expander will have the opportunity to make more money for the same amount of time spent.

In short, they will understand that our work pays everyone's salary, so keep us happy and treat us like the skilled professionals we ARE and not like typists or typing machines.

ewww just gets on my last nerve.
Thank you, thank you for that much appreciated clue.
we're talking about a perfectly dreadful typing congomeration. Am I right?
I'm in CA, Fatcat...No clue where you are
But lunch without sitting at the computer waiting for work to trickle in sounds FABULOUS!!!
You all have no clue what you are talking about - sm
I work for Deb and Aces UP, 2 years plus now. The client does this to save money, they are billed at a lower rate then if we straght type a report, kind of like what many of you do with VR. The doctor brings forward the previous report the patient had (we don't have to pull it, but if we have to go get it because they were too lazy to get it then we are paid it as straight typing and a new report), then they dictate a new Interval History, changes to the ROS, PE, Labs, Assessement and plan. Leaving in everything else previously dictated unless told to remove it which is rare. I can do a 5 minute dictation in 10 minutes, then yes, I get paid for the whole report.....not just what I typed, yes it is a lower rate than had I typed a whole report from scratch, but I only typed a portion of it, maybe 25% if that. So on a good day I can churn out 6 brought forward reports an hour, over 600 lines easy and get paid for all 600. If you have the dicipline to sit and not get distracted it can be very good. Also on the plus side no demographics to enter, report types, etc. It is all done, all you do it pull up report, the voice file loads, copy and paste the previous report into your MSWord, type the report, copy and paste it back into the platform, easy. No BS. 24-hour TAT, no set hours, just do your work in that 24-TAT and everyone is happy. I am quite happy there. I have 7 doctors I work on, no pool work with 300+ different dictator, so thumb your nose at that. Plenty of straight typing as well. I really only have 1 doctor that does the brought forwards, my other 6 are straight typing. Also plenty of work, too much sometimes but I'd rather have feast than famine.
No the hospitals would not have a clue
how could the hospitals know why MTs abandoned their jobs?

Do you have any contact with hospitals now?

Take a more practical and rational approach- beat the MTSOs at their own game. I am NOT anti-MTSO, I am just saying if you really feel abused by these companies - BE THEIR COMPETITION!
Just as there are "oldies" who don't have a clue.
The experienced MTs at my company are the same ones that cherrypick and won't do ESLs (not sure if just lazy or can't do them). They also make a ton of errors on their reports. One of them consistently spells medications wrong, even after warnings from our AM. Some don't bother looking up referring physicians to double check the spelling (again, don't know if laziness or they don't know how to Google). Yet, these MTs make 1 cpl more than I do because of their experience level. I may not be perfect, but I do take pride in my work and produce approximately 2000 lines a day with at least 99% accuracy, even as a newbie. I also do a majority of the ESLs since everyone else just skips over them. I have been told by 3 different account managers that I have a knack for ESLs and understanding accents. I was also pre-med in college and have an extensive background in the medical field, so I am very familiar with terminology, pharmacology, procedures, etc. Yet, I am just a newbie, so I get paid less.

Maybe rates shouldn't be based on the time on the job, but on actual skill level. If you are bringing in more money for the company and are doing harder work types (or more ESLs) than others, maybe you should be paid more than the other MTs who don't make such a contribution. Of course, that is jsut dreaming.
I believe the poster's moniker is a clue. ;)

Webmedx?

I have no clue but that MTSO was probably just jerking you around.
I do hiring and there is no such list to my knowledge. I know I know others that do hiring for other companies and we never talk about candidates at all. No names are ever mentioned and there is no such list. Besides, a candidate that might not fit one company might be a good one for another.

This black list is bull.
oh boy.. no clue where the rest of my post is.. sm
maybe I'll have time to rewrte it then... hmmm
No clue. That's the info they gave me. sm

They are in Farmington, NM. Cannot find a web site for them or anything with the BBB.

I think your getting it all wrong.. She is probably doing VR editing..not the same as QA editing..
Does make a difference as you are not correcting someone's else work.. just VR to make sure the sentences make sense, right punctuation etc..If you have good English skills, it is not that difficult but this 1.5 cpl is a joke.
their slow response should be a clue as to how they run their business.
I know.
If they use the hospital's system, the choice is not theirs. Get a clue. nm

she used to be the secretary for the chief cheese -- no clue!!! don't do it.

I hope so because I have no clue what this post is talking about!

and also, tech people don't have a clue what they are doing when u ask them a question

All they want to do is come into our computer because they know absolutely NOTHING about what they are doing.  It is dread each and every contact made with the tech people at TT.  Time-consuming training by the MT for the tech people who are salaried and not being paid by the line.  J____ was absolutely EXCELLENT and HELPFUL.  Another sad  situation when he left.  Tech not been the same help since then.

No clue, all I was told is it's a huge new account.
If it's west coast, that's scary, I do west coast accounts now for another company and they're all horrible.  This one I'm supposed to be doing is on Enterprise platform?
I got the chapstick too. I honestly have no clue why they bothered sending anything.
nm
C'mon, give us a clue. Where is this, how did you find it, IC or employee? nm

I guess our clue is supposed to be when we run out of work all the time?
nm
I want to clarify something... i have no clue what they are planning in the upcoming days... and it
nm
I disagree. I don't blame them for wanting to clue some people in. (sm)
Some people obviously have a lot to learn about applying for a job. They covered such things when I went to business college in the 1980s, but I remember when I was a secretary in an office, seeing the IC Transcriptionist come into the office wearing outfits I would never be seen in public in, let alone a professional office I was getting a paycheck from.
Any clue who the company is hiring the Newbies/nonNewbies sm
on the job seekers board?
Word global should be clue. Perhaps their main office is
nm
You obviously haven't a clue what you are talking about. TT has NOT lost any accounts. TT is NO
having financial troubles. Dictaphone does NOT control the money or the accounts. I would strongly suggest you refrain from posting that erroneous information here or face the consequences.
And your post shows that you have absolutely no clue of what it takes to train a new MT!
x
It was a test for a company and I have no clue if you had to download drivers. I would not care to
do that to take a test.
65+ and still transcribing
I'm 65, was hired by CyMed/SPi at 63 but had another offer at that time. Companies have never asked my age (and aren't supposed to). Of course, they can often figure it out from a resume or when you have to send in a copy of your DL or other ID. I sympathize and empathize with your chronic pain. I've had to slow down to 6 hours a day due to shoulder/neck problems and had had 3 surgeries (did not have to give my medical history when applying either). I still enjoy the work. I consider our jobs a genuine specialty, truly medical language specialists! I have lots of ESL experience and that is usually a plus for me. I'm on my own, divorced 20 years, so no hubby help, etc. I took early retirement at 62 but it barely covers my rent now that Medicare and MC supplement premiums are being deducted. Thanks for posting your concerns. Don't give up on finding a company--you are a valuable person in this field!
I was also transcribing (sm)
ER reports for them on an IC basis (weekends, nights, etc.) .  The account I was on was easy.  If I remember correctly, I was up to around 275 lph within the first couple days.  I left because I had a second job which was full time and it just became overwhelming for me.
J and J transcribing

Hi,  Does anyone here know anything about J and J Transcribing?  I applied to them a long time ago and they have finally gotten back to me.  It was so long ago that I cannot remember any of the original information that I knew about the company.  Thanks,  Gale

On transcribing what you know to be
correct versus what the client/MTSO wants, you have to go by that. They pay your bills. When and if the client is cited by Joint Commission for inappropriate abbreviations then it will be changed, but until then type things as instructed. If you have to do what QA wants, then there isn't much you can do about that, but why can't QA pull up the information they are looking for instead of you??? For the lack of work, contact your supervisor again and ask if it is a permanent thing or just temporary that the work is low for now (don't mention the other MTs if you are not supposed to know about it) and, if so, ask again about a second or third account.
