You've been in the biz 10 years and enjoy slacking. Great.  Now let's look ahead 20 more years, so you've been in the biz 30 years. Junior is now grown and gone, you don't have XBox 360 anymore, and you've devoted 30 years of your life to this job - which should be thought of as career.  Your work is pristine - you really know everything there is to know about medicine within your experience - you can catch critical drug dosing errors - you don't have to look up terminology, you've diligently worked for decades creating your own personal Expander and shorthand, you can handle any and all ESL, no matter what disgusting quality it is, you are a  computer expert, have mastered just about every typing platform out there, your work NEVER needs to be QA'd. You are a master in your field, yet.... you still make the same pennies per line you made when you were happy doing the laundry, wearing your fuzzy slippers and playing XBox video games.... That is what is WRONG with our industry and that is what we are FIGHTING FOR.  Our industry demands genius - it demands physical dexterity that not many can match on top of genius knowledge of medicine.  Sure, the slackers are legion and can continue to be happy at their 8 cpl rate. But the rest of us, and there are legion, deserve without question to be COMPENSATED ACCORDINGLY.  Period.  Remuneration commensurate upon experience, let alone making LESS than we did 10 years ago.  Settle in your cozy comfy couch, and in another 20 years you'll get what we were trying to tell you, you'll get what we were trying to fix in our industry, but by then our jobs will be extinct, and no more moms will have the luxury of slacking off while kids were small, doing the laundry and playing XBox with little Junior, UNLESS THEY LIVE IN INDIA.

gender comment?  Our industry is being destroyed, and some women are actually basically arguing that they don't want more $$ or better working conditions because, even when they slack off at home playing XBox with their kids, they still are able to make what they consider good money. What kind of logic in any  world is this? Would that woman be unhappy if we fought for better wages and won, and she got paid MORE money to slack off with little Johnnie?  Women and females in this industry are not the brighest bulbs in the pack when it comes to the entire basis for working - wages, benefits, working conditions.  Its embarrassing, actually, how we have allowed ourselves to get in the mess we are in. And to think that MTs are willing to cat fight and proudly that they are quite pleased with what they have and think those of us who want improvements are wrong! Its crazy and totally backwards.  Thus, the reason the men in suits have figuratively raped us for decades.

Are the office staff male or female? The reason I ask is

that in India women are generally second class citizens.   I'm sure they are becoming westernized, but when people marry in India the wife becomes a possession.


I wondered if the office staff were male and the reason for their lack of social graces is more because of culture than anything.  Regardless not pleasant and doesn't matter why.

When our US force was defunct...
They gave us the option of applying for unemployment, and some MTs did. It was part of some layoff option in the unemployment aspect. Otherwise, we had 60 days to find another job.
I like the word force. How about we
FORCE THEM (whoever they are)
to guarantee us a paycheck, with full-time lines, good pay, and um, er, WORK. Hmmm?

Sorry for the all caps. Just the forcing credentials business is pushing it. Not a good time to be bugging a work force which is putting up with enough already. IMHO
All a union is going to do is force more
work to go offshore.   I work for a company that keeps 100% of the work in the U.S., pay better than 99% of the companies out there, pays for downtime, has great benefits and they pay for most of them 100% - all without a union. 
Do they force you to do VR at a cut rate?

I always force the issue and ask what their pay is....
although I don't apply to IC-only companies - I never like their offer, and know the IRS rules to the nth degree. However, I do think one should have an idea of the range of pay before proceeding with any further testing - saves me and the recruiter time, IMO!

Hi! Any new reports on K-Force staffing. I am currently working and reasonably happy, but I received a call out of the blue on an old resume that was banked on Yahoo, and a lady called me, very interested, just the right candidate for immediate full-time radiology position, the whole 9 yards. BUT I have read several older posts from 2005-6 where there were negative things said. Anyone currently working for this company, what is the scoop, I would really, really appreciate it so very much, don't need to make a bad move at this stage of the game!!!!

K-Force is the only company that I am aware of

that advertises for traveling transcriptionists.  From what I have read about them it isn't something I recommend, you have to front expenses, takes a while to get reimbursed, pay isn't anything special, etc.  


With the internet it has pretty much eliminated the need to bring in transcriptionists. 


 


can't force a huge boulder to

move unless you have a good lever system, if you know what I mean...  Anyway, the company doesn't have a good explanation, which is the main reason behind the research.

A little info on Task Force Pro and America's Pride
I don't have any info on them from personal experience but did find this info on a search. I'm assuming I'm allowed to place these links.

VERY interesting article. Sounds America's Pride had a contract with Medquist who was accused of sending active and inactive veterans' info overseas to be transcribed. Don't know the outcome, but for your reading enjoyment:

Reading some of these posts, I see management is out in full force
trying to run damage control. No MT who just got her pay cut is going to say, yay, who cares if I'm going to be making less money, this great company is still paying slightly more than some of those fly-by-night companies, and I luv my new paycut....
No the driving force if the MT in transcription. Without the MT the technology couldnt survive.

I have done enough ASR, etc. to tell you that there is no way that technology could survive on its own or any other technology that we have today as well.  The way these people dictate I guarantee you there will always be a need for MTs.  There arent enough doctors now to go around.  Do you really think they are going to sit there and type the reports or care how they look.  They are working twice as hard now for less money.

is their focus does not mean that patients should suffer. 96% accuracy could mean the difference to someone who is on the receiving end of that report. I am NOT QA or management but I am an experienced Transcriptionist who believes that the reports we transcribe need to be accurate for the patient's sake.

Oh, NO!!! That's not what I meant.
I'm sorry it came across that way.  I got duped into applying with them by all the rave reviews on the boards, too.  Plus, they make no mention of it on their website.  I refuse to work for a company that offshores.  As for the people who are happy there, more power to them.  That's their decision and I'm glad they've got great jobs.  I just need something else from a company.

figured it was their loss.  No biggie to me.  All I was doing was giving MY experience with the company, which consisted of being told I would be called back, and then not being called.
