sounds like a subliminal warning almost

Posted By: but once a GOOD employee on 2006-01-13
In Reply to: You can also do a background check on companies - MTSO

leaves for having been the butt of office politics and actually gives a valid reason for leaving, steadfastly working the assigned shifts, picking up the slack on unscheduled work days and generally contining to go above and beyond what is given by any typical employee

and the office cuts off communications, my feeling is THEY are done with the employee in spite of that person continuing to attempt to have a good relationship through to the end.

NO more feedback from QA, being locked out of the primary account when you know the account is more than 48 hours past due, etc., cause lubricate the lips of someone trying to do the honorably thing.

WARNING!!!! WARNING!!! NIGHTMARE!!!!!
WARNING!!! The IC works using Nicholas Transcription's own self-rigged platform system that they literally pieced together themselves even tho they are noT programmers= NOT EVEN CLOSE. this, um, platform is trash. It has so many bugs and errors that the MT spends more time fixing platform problems than typing; the program is so bad that it will destroy a computer. I know this because I had to replace my computer. Any body that works for this company stands a good chance of losing money rather. They pay 7 cpl, use a linecounting systme that does not include headers and footers. the low pay, the $2 charge for dir dep, and the time is spent struggling with this HOMEADE PATHETIC PLATFORM is extremely unreasonable. Oh yes, if an Mt does not meet the turn a time, the owner gets belligerent, hot-headed, and will FIRE an MT in a split second for being out of turnatime even if the reason for this is Nich. Trans' fault. This is a husband and wife team and the wife is without a doubt the worst individual I have EVER worked for (i have been in the biz for 10 years, so this is saying a LOT!!!) Enter at your own risk!!!

WARNING (SM)
If MQ is discussed anymore on this thread, the entire thread will be deleted.

Thanks for the warning! And NO WAY!

Well...thanks for the warning!! (nm)
nnnnnn
Thanks for the warning
There are a couple of other companies out there fishing around for business on this board that have those same great features!!
Warning about D&L
I am an ex-employee at D&L and I will back you up 100%. I again did not receive my last check today, as promised, but some flim-flam excuse about them having received a bounced check from a large account. Regardless of their problems, I had done work for them according to their rules and expect pay according to their promises. I got out of there...I'm sorry you are having problems. For anyone looking for a job...beware of D&L.
WARNING ANOTHER CO THAT DOES NOT PAY
Please stay away from Meditran or also posts under the name of Rose for ortho help on this board.  They do not pay!
what? oh man. thanks for the warning :)

Just a warning

There is a certain company out of Sarasota who will advertise on the other board initals are PS  -- good company in the fact that MT week GIFT and during XMAS gift, however SMALL.  However, what I learned, is that if you question they will scr** with you.  Example  -- I did 35 reports for this particular company  -- out of those 35 reports it was 535 lines -- YEP -- and no, I'm not lying -- automatic line count  -- starred with another company recently 35 reports equaled 2100 lines --- HMM what is WRONG here?  I called company A today got the run around and after SIX emails --NO response I was terminated  -- I really DON'T give a hoot or holler and as an IC  they cant terminate me  -- I just want to forewarn and forearm that there are companies out there like that

thanks for the warning

I'm willing to bet we'll be seeing a lot more terminations with this new Impact thing.

Just a little warning...
Sometimes your better off under a group policy because your rates are across the board for everyone. With individual policies, come renewal time..you had better hope you did not file too many claims or have a new diagnosis like diabetes, heart disease etc..or your premiums could go through the roof and there is not a lot you can do about it. If you decide to switch policies/companies you might find that they will only touch you if you have a policy that costs out of this world, forcing you to stay with the first one. I have worked in medical billing/insurance, etc. I've seen this happen and also personally I have had to get a individual family policy. They snared us in with this great rate but a year later, our rates went a lot higher and we hardly had any claims. I guess the bottom line is.. it's not a great situation out there in the world of healthcare. We are forced to pay the price so to speak. Honestly, best wishes and I hope they do not sticker shock you later. The best news about individual policies is that if you are self-employed, you can claim it on your taxes so in a sense you get it back.

They are just about all Filipino MT related and they literally kiss their behinds.  They used to deduct from them just like the domestics, but they are phasing that out.  Domestics are deducted for every little mistake.  One girl was let go after only one week, had NO mentoring.  Admin staff never been MTs.
They never once sent me a warning..
Just as I was about to start making my line counts and doing well the work disappeared and not just the usual standard drought that every company gets. My work up and vanished and never came back so after months of not making my line count I finally told them to i couldn't afford to work there. If they had the audacity to complain to ME about my line counts I'm sure I would have used much more colorful language. They're actually pretty cool about it though. I think their biggest problem is they're either overhiring or send our work offshore; maybe both.
Wow, thanks for the warning
Poor grammar and then calling MTs girls.  Good thing you steered clear of this train wreck!   1 cpl?  BWAHAHAHA....good luck finding someone to take that.  Was the name of this outfit Scrooge's Medical Transcription Service?
Thanks for warning us. nm

No, not that company. But thanks for the warning. nm

Thanks, we dodged the last one. But was warning new MTs to

MQ is concerned when it comes to covering yourself and what you THINK you have when you work for them.  You can be in for a rude awakening and you are left holding the notorious bag.

They are reporting we are in a cycle now and it will last a few years, so we should anticipate this kind of storm activity next year and the next.  These kinds of horrific storms have been here before so it is not all "global warming" so they say.  It is a cycle.

From 1900s to 1950s we had storms with 180 mph winds etc so we are in for a mess of them it looks like.  Good luck to you too.  I'm leaving national work as an income, maybe a PT but will never depend on it ever again at home.

Oh great....thanks for the warning...nm

Warning Non payer.

Mary Gleason, Digital Transcription. Do not work for, sole proprietor.  Will let you work 2 weeks and stiff on pay, owed over $200.

lartech warning...
NONPAYER ALERT HERE!!
WARNING!!! NONPAYER!!!

The company that posted here a short time ago asking for PT/overflow podiatry work, COMPLETE transcription out of Texas, with the owner named Joanna.  I worked for her earlier in the year.  Got paid for the first month, but still 2 MONTHS later have yet to be paid for the other 2 weeks I worked.  Had emailed about it and was told she hadn't gotten an invoice, which she had.  I emailed the invoice AGAIN.  Still no check.  Emailed her yet again and have yet to recieve any response.

Just wanted to give warning if you are working or considering working for this person.  Maybe this is a one-time issue, but I thought I'd pass the information along just in case.  I'd hate for anyone else to be stuck high and dry with bills to pay and no check in sight.

Thanks for the confirmation and the warning. Better

BE CAREFUL. They do not understand the meaning of Idependent Contractor and for employee status a pay cut is involved. Forget ever getting a raise. The platform is great but if you log off for a few minutes for anything you will be harrassed via messager, etc. Top pay in their minds is 8 cents for typing and 4 cents for VR. Moved on to bigger and way, way better. Do a search..there are a lot of posts about them.
Whoa...thanks for the warning! nm

Warning about Medline
Please be careful with Medline, a company posting on the Job Seeker's Board. They posted in February of this year for people to participate in a short-term project of a pharmaceutical/medical conference. I completed a 10 minute test. A few days later I was told I tested great, but the response to his ad was in excess of what he expected and there was no more work on the project. He offered me a contract for future positions, I signed it, but I never heard anything back. I have no way of proving it, but I suspect that all the testing was part of a project he was paid for. If someone does work for Medline currently, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Just sent guru.com a warning about her. nm
nm
friendly warning
I've known 3 people who worked for them now and here's the deal.  You will constantly run out of work.  There are short periods where they will pay a premium rate for overtime, but it will not make up for what you lose due to no work in general.  Also, don't expect your paychecks to be on time.  They are mailed from Canada to one of their editors in California and she then remails them, so it never comes on time and recently people didn't get paid at all, the pay was over a week late with no real explanation.  They just don't have it together.
Warning about this company
Just seeing that this company is once again looking for more MTs - be warned that it is not all it's cracked up to be.  As an MT, you will have work but the current supervisor is extremely unprofessional and verbally abusive to you.  The QA staff currently as well do not care about the MTs they edit.  No feedback is given unless it is abusive to you.  It is a company not recommended by many supervisors and professionals who have been associated with them or else have communicated on a higher level in the industry knowing the background of the company.  As an MT you should be appreciated for being the backbone of any company - ATSI is not at all where you will find that well deserved attitude.
A few warning shots, then the big gun..
If the employee is making their production, that's one thing. But if they are not and turnaround time is suffering, then a heart-to-heart about the situation and maybe a couple of more warnings with a *I'm may have to let you go*, and then the hammer. That way, they can't say they never saw it coming and your friend's conscience is clear about giving the employee plenty of opportunity to address the situation.

And by *hammer*, I meant firing, 'cause reading it over, it seemed a little obscure even to me!
Actually there are lots of warning sm
posts here and on the internet (Google TransAM).  Beware and TransAm seem to go hand in hand.  Remember, one of the most important skills of MT is ability to research.  They are a well known scam in the MT community.  Search the other MT boards and you'll see the same beware posts.  I'm sorry this happened to you but you're not the first to be scammed and certainly will not be the last unfortunately.  I would suggest you chalk it up to experience and move on.  The sooner you put it behind you the better.  I'm sorry you fell for this but as you'll see once you really start searching, it's an old scam.
Warning about ad on Job Board....

By SIT transcription, this woman with the initials of AJ.  She also calls her company A.J. Transcription AND SIT (Southern Illinois Transcription)  You get NO account information, she refuses to tell you the name of the client/hospital/clinic....she does NOT want the MTs communicating and she is a witch to work for.  These accounts are NOT her accounts.  She contracts the work from various companies and she is not truthful about the line rate.  She will quote you one rate, put it in the contract, then pay you a totally lower line rate.

Fair warning
I am confused. You say this is the not the first time they have done this and won't be the last and say money is owed but you also say you do not work there anymore. How can you know all of this if you are no longer working for them? Did you recently quit? Not trying to stir the pot here, just trying to understand. And why don't you handle your issues with them directly rather than posting it on a public board? How is creating this post supposed to help you? And what does the fact that the owners once worked for MQ have to do with anything? It's a red herring, a non-issue. A lot of people, myself included, once worked for MQ. So what? LM has always been on time with my pay, always, and have always been honest in their dealings with me. I think that the owners are decent people who treat their employees well. It is important to remember that great harm can be done to others with our words. If it were me and I had a legitimate gripe about not being paid, I would handle it through legal channels that have power to resolve the issue rather than resorting to a public bulletin board that does not. Just sayin', that's all......It's too easy to come on a board and flail away at someone. It just doesn't seem like the professional way to handle what should be an internal issue between you and a company.
Warning about WMX Webinar
Please beware! When you are on the WMX conference call today, the technology that they employ for conference calls allows them to see who is speaking. Be aware of that in case you want to make any comments during the call - they WILL know who you are.
sure sounds swell. Sounds like 2350 ln/day @ 4 cents/ln=$90./day
in order to figure how many line needs to be produced to make $500 per pay period. ie, how many lines an hour needed per 8 hour day --at your rate.

So say $450 a week would be $90 a day.
For example, if making 4 cents a line, need 2,250 lines a day, 281 an HOUR (to listen through and edit) to make this great wage of $90. a day FOR ALL THIS SAME SKILL, TO KEEP UPDATED WITH CHANGING MEDICAL COMMUNITY. nope Better at Jack-in-Box Pass it up.
WARNING - etranz is a nightmare

Once again, another payroll check from etranz returned NSF.  I left this so-called company, but I am still waiting for three paychecks, which if they ever do come I'm sure they will be worthless.  This company is delusional.  They do not understand why everyone keeps leaving and they tell themselves that each former MT had a "story" or were non-productive, etc.  This is far from the truth.  The truth is this company is based upon lies and they apparently have no money to pay their employees, so they continuously make up more lies and say your check is coming, that they had problems with the bank, that they refinanced their homes and have the money and intend to pay on time.

They have never paid on time . . . and most of the time when you finally get a paycheck, weeks late, it is NSF.  They don't care!  Meanwhile, you have to try to fix everything with your bank, etc. and figure out how to get your money.

Stay far far away from this one!

Warning about the phone call from MQ...sm

After reading the boards about the new MQ plan I went to Qnet to see what I could find.  I haven't received the packet yet nor had I received a phone call (or so I thought).  I found a section that stated I received a phone call on Sept 15th and that I had received paperwork.  I wondered what the heck was going on.  Checked my caller ID and sure enough on Sept 15th there was an 800 number (after typing it in Google I found out it was Medquist).  After talking with my husband at dinner about the new plan and the phone call he finally (after 2 weeks) tells me that they called and HE told them that I got a paper in the mail.  They never called ME back or asked that I call them with questions.  So you might want to ask your husband or kids if they talked to someone.

Keystrokes warning not a flame -sm
No flames, but my version...be VERY VERY sure you have a job with them BEFORE you quit your other job. I was hired, got the programs loaded, waited for training, and never heard another word from them......all after I quit my other job. No flames, just telling what happened to me, as a word of warning about this company. Even getting it in writing is questionable. I got no answer to multiple telephone calls and e-mails. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
Warning: Klaar Transcription

Please do NOT go to work for this company.  Your paychecks will be late, if you get one at all.  I am making a formal complaint to Dept. of Labor tomorrow (Tues.)against this company.  I don't know how they stay in business honestly.  I will let the Labor law retrieve my paychecks for me.  This company is not on the up and up or are in dire financial shape and stability.

WARNING - ATSI/MT WORLD

I had previously posted asking for input on MT World, which is apparently the parent company or associated with ATSI.  Well, I got my answer and here's my experience:  After I submitted a resume, I received a test with a look forward to speaking with you  Fine - even though this is usually a flag (from my experience).  Took the test and received a phone call telling me I passed and that I would next receive an application, which after received would be followed by an interview.

In the meantime I asked for clarification about the weekend requirement:  Hours required, rate of pay, etc.  I was asked to call back, which I did.  After asking the question *three different ways* it was clear she was not going to answer the main question, which was:  If you are required to be available for 8 hours each weekend day, are you paid by the line or by the hour?  MTs, you know where I was going with this :)

So I said, you are either unable to unwilling to answer this question, so I will withdraw my interest.

I got the distinct impression this is something she/they are used to...

What I don't get is this:  Unless they expect you to be on call for 8 hours with no guarantee of a minimum earning per hour, why couldn't they simply answer this question?  Why take more of my time filling out an application, having a phone interview, etc., just to get this basic question answered?

And corporations wonder why they get a bad rap.

Ew - kinda scary! Thanks for the warning everybody. (nm)

WARNING!! STAY AWAY FROM KEYSTROKES

Just a friendly warning to stay away from Keystrokes.  A friend of mine and myself were both hired by them and we quit the company before a month was past.

They offer no training, broken promises, and the sorry part is the owner is no better than her employees.  We have heard that so many hospitals have voiced their contracts from Keystrokes as well.  There always seemed to be more typists than there was work on all of their accounts.

Don't waste your time.

If you do decide to go with Vonage, WARNING: (sm)

Make sure the person who is taking your order understands and speaks coherent English.  I called on 2 separate occasions to open an account, and both times the customer service representative repeated my credit card number INCORRECTLY to me.  This made me very uncomfortable as far as their competency.

Additionally, after these occurrences, I called again and asked to speak with a supervisor or manager and was told that he is in a meeting now and that there was no one else of higher authority that I could speak with.  The call ended by the customer service rep asking me to call back later.  What a hoot!  Yea right buddy. NOT!!!!

CBAY SYSTEMS - a warning

I'm not a negative person, and I have received high marks with every company I've worked for - including CBay. My opinion on most companies is that one is good for some and not for others. But my experience with CBay was so appalling, that I want to share a word of warning.

CBay has good benefits and they pay for downtime, but the positives stop there and are totally overwhelmed by negatives. The team I was a part of waited for weeks to start our accounts, and we were expected to be patient. Only if you made a point of the fact that you had to leave your other employment to be ready to work for CBay did you receive any compensation. Imagine not being paid for several weeks! Be patient? But that's what happened. Some MTs were paid, and some were not.

And this really paints a picture of the overall working environment. If you were in the know, you could get by a little better than some. For instance, when a virus wiped out the system for about a day, a supervisor said we needed to move our schedules around to compensate. But if you were smart and talked with personel, you learned this was not necessary at all. Downtime should have been paid - period. Some MTs got that downtime and some did not.

If you are a good MT and pride yourself in your work, you might think you would never get fired, but nothing could be further from the truth. They are very quick to fire people.

Although my group's part in CBay was very small compared to how enormous the company is, all three supervisors were dishonest in some way, whether it dealt with downtime pay or something else. A couple of us who were better at transcription were often told privileged information and instructed to not tell anyone. Meanwhile, other girls would ask for this information, and the supervisor would say, I don't know. An organization with that type of game playing and dishonesty at the supervisory level should not be on anyone's list as a great place to work.

There is much more I could say, but my hope is to say enough to protect others from making the terrible mistake I did. Sweatshop does not even begin to describe how CBay degrades its MTs. They should truly be ashamed.

WARNING ABOUT D&L TYPING SERVICE!!!!
I started for D&L not too long ago.  So far, they had never run out of work, but then had some technical issues with the account I was on...that was a month ago, and we have been typing and retyping month old work, the same reports, over and over again as they are testing the system.  My supervisors mentioned worry about D&L having lost the account, and having us do busywork in order to try to scramble to retrieve it.  Also, numerous people have had their paychecks bounce, they do not return phone calls about the bounced checks, and the owners do not care one way or the other about the people they hire.  DO NOT work for this company, unless all you want is a one way ticket to stress and headaches!

Dictation By Phone - WARNING!
I usually don't bash a company, but I feel this needs to be said.  This is a warning . . . I worked for this company in Michigan.  I did not get paid on the date I was told I would.  When I again asked when payday was (thinking I had heard it incorrectly) I was told around the 1st and the 15th.  So a payday that was supposed to be on the 15th, I didn't get paid until the 20th!  Then had the next paycheck bounce.  Needless to say, I'm out of there.  Others have quit before the first payday and are still waiting to get paid for the days they did work.  There is no organization.  The owners are a couple who know nothing about medical transcription.  The husband is loud and obnoxious, and tries to take care of computer and software issues because he doesn't want to pay someone to do it.  His training?  He used to manage a quick oil change business!
Thanks for warning me, but this is the other company - no coding LOL. NM

They do these 'hard holds' without ANY warning (sm)
I had no idea there was ANY problem with my account until I went to use my ATM card at the walk-up machine and, of coure, the bank was closed. I knew I had well over $500 in there but had to wait until I got home to call their customer service number and inquire as to the problem. No amount of reasoning, rationalizing, begging or pleading would persuade them to even release a measly $40 so I could fill up my gas tank and eat, either. I withdrew all of my funds and closed my account as soon as they released their almight 'hard hold,' that's for sure.

I've had accounts of B of A, Bank of the West, Sanwa Bank, etc., and NEVER have been through anything as preposterous and humiliating as the WF situation was.

If they're the only game in town, make sure you never become overdrawn and don't write any checks based on a check you've deposited until it clears. Either that or keep cash on hand and only keep the minimal requirement to keep your account open at the bank itself.

Downright scary what banks are capable of doing with their customers' money.
