Information for Scribbles

Hi Scribbles,

I wanted to share some information with you.  After reading some of the posts from yourself and others about unions, I decided to do some research and contact someone.  I really don't have an opinion either way as far as unions are concerned, but I do think if someone believes really strongly about something, then they should do everything in their power to make a stand.  It would be nice if there were a wage scale for MTs as there is for other healthcare professionals.  Below you will find the response which I received today.

Good luck and take care.

Actually, yes, there are Unions for office/healthcare workers such as yourself! Please contact Labor Organizations such as the Office and Professional Employees International Union, www.OPEIU.org, as well as the Service Employees International Union, www. SEIU.org (HealthCare Division: http://www.seiuhealthcare.org), and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, www.AFSCME.org,(HealthCare Division: http://afscme.org/workers/513.cfm). Thank you for the opportuntity to address your question. If we may be of further assistance in regards to this, or another issue, please contact us again. Fraternally, Dustin OrganizingAdvocate Unions.org

And another thing, Scribbles, called your
bluff on the question of age on the main board. Got home late last night and answered then.
For Scribbles and his/her union friends

If you really want to know how to form a union, check out the link below for the AFL/CIO.  You'll need to pick a union with which to affiliate.  They have a list with contacts.  They also have state/local federations of labor with contacts.  You'll also need a professional union organizer to help you.  There's a form you can fill out to get in touch with one.

SEIU split from the AFL/CIO and is a healthcare union.  Find a web page for a local in your area, and they can give you the same information as above.

These are the people who can really answer your questions and help you.  I'm betting, though, that you just want stay on these boards to stir the pot and whine.

Funny if Scribbles IS Gourd trying to find out who
s
Scribbles, thanks for rising up from our ranks and making a serious effort to make ... sm

the idea of a union for us a reality.  Greedy and unethical service owners/senior management have really turned this profession to the dogs over the last 20+ years or so, and if we don't finally say enough and start speaking up for ourselves it's only going to get worse.  (I also have to make an aside and say to the MTSO's out there who actually UNDERSTAND this profession, have EXPERIENCE in it, and are SENSITIVE to the needs and challenges that MT's face, thank you so much for your integrity.  We appreciate you.)

I'll be following the board closely to read of your updates, Scribbles.
