If one carries disability insurance, is that for any disability, ie, (not related to job)  from a car accident, recreational time injury, etc.?  thanks.

Disability
Check your status. If it was employer-paid, I can't see how you were ever terminated. You should be called back after submitting a release from your doctor.

If not, check up with a lawyer familiar with the ADA.
Returning to work after disability?

About 2-1/2 years ago I had to take employer-paid disability for an illness that was affecting my attendance at the hospital where I had been employed for several years as an MT.  I loved my job, but had no choice at the time and have spent the last two years trying to do my best to return to health and return to work at the same hospital.  During those two years, the hospital had a shortage of qualified MTs and was aggressively hiring; when I checked lately, however, there are no openings.  I called the department a month ago inquiring about the possibility of returning to work and the department head never returned my call.  Although I had exemplary reviews and years of extensive MT experience at this hospital, I know that my attendance the last year or so left a bad impression on my department head.  Also, during the time I was quite ill and still working, my production temporarily suffered, worsening the situation (yet my last review was still exemplary, noting only attendance issues and need to pull up production, otherwise just outstanding). I do believe she got the message the day I called, but chose not to return the call.  I made the call during a time they were actively recruiting and having some difficulty in finding qualified MTs.  Now I see no such ads anywhere.

There are other non-MT positions at the hospital, but I'm really not qualified for most of them and my pay as an MT was outstanding and I absolutely adored my job until I became too ill to work.  I'm afraid I ruined my reputation in my department when I became ill and she perhaps has decided not to re-hire me.  Although I could speak with people above her, she ultimately has the final say in determining whether she would take me back into the department.

If my MT department head is unwilling to hire me, what do you think my chances are applying at national companies with a 2-1/2 year lapse in working and transcribing?  I'm sure my doctors will gladly back me up that my attendance issues were solely due to my illness and I have copies of my superior reviews, even my last review the month before I left to take disability.

Although I believe I haven't lost my MT skill, I have been out of the loop in terms of new drugs, etc. for over two years.  Yet, I do have many years transcribing for a prominent multi-specialty hospital.  What would YOU DO if you were me?  Would you more aggresively pursue the position with my current employer or try to move on?  I don't want to move on, but may have no choice.  Thanks for the advice!

They lost the huge TN disability sm

account to the Philippines.  Guess TN wanted cheap labor.  I won't be surprised if ALL of the accounts go there.

I am so glad I quit working there!!!

I think if you have short-term disability
as a benefit with a company, that covers maternity leave.  I
Wow . . . I probably should have said short term disability.
nm
For short-term disability to pay, you have
to be signed up for it, at least where I work.
Yep, I make as much MTing now as I would on disability.
Guess what I am going to take since I qualify?
WMX short term disability question (sm)
Sent a question to HR about this, but still haven't heard.  Don't have much PTO and will be needing a surgery in the not too distant future.   Does anyone know if our short term disability will help with this?
pregnancy is a disability when you have complications/C-section/ and even child birh is a procedure.
So just because you didnt get money for your pregnancy, then just get over it.

I had a horrible time with both of my pregnancies and could not work even though I wanted and needed to.

People can get off of work for 6 weeks for drug treatment, mental angious, etc. Those are not disabilities but are conditions that warrant time off.

I think someone is turning green with envy and doesnt handle life well.
Aww, come on now. Do you really think new comp.

Workers' Comp, IC @ MQ
Have any IC's ever filed a WC claim against MQ? If so, what was the course and/or outcome?
workman's comp
Carpal tunnel is a worker's comp case as it is caused by the job. You have to claim it as such and open a comp case. Disability covers any other medical reason for missing work other than job related.
large comp

I agree.

SPi New Comp Plan

Hey, just posted a reply but haven't seen it post, so if this is a duplicate, I apologize!  I've been with SPi since December and was hired under the comp plan that you guys are discussing and it's actually a very good plan.  While I am not paid for spaces, most companies don't pay for spaces anyway, but the good thing is that I was given a higher line rate to compensate for that.  I interviewed with other companies before I decided to work for SPi and the reason I chose SPi was not only the great line rate but that the benefits start after 30 days, and who can beat free vision and dental!  I was going to have to pay for that myself everywhere else and couldn't even get it until I had worked a minimum of 3 months at other places.  The other cool thing was that I got paid for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!  I am not going anywhere....

spi comp plan
Let's face it, they made this compensation plan to help their bottom line, not the MTs...and anyone who is breaking even, you are the lucky ones!!

I want to know if anyone is making more than last year with this company!!! Other than account managers and other management, that is..did they take a hit in their paychecks?????

RE: SPI COMP PLAN
I seem to be making quite a bit less with this new plan.  It is taking a lot more hours to get the line count compared to what we use to have to do.
Company with VA comp and pens?
I saw an ad some time ago from a company looking for MTs to work on VA comp and pens.  I've been working a VA account the past few years and love the comp and pens but the amount of those seems to be dwindling on the account for some reason, probably going over to voice or more people working on them. Just wondered if anyone remembered which company that was. Thanks!
An MT needed comp. okay satellite use sm

Can you file a work comp claim
If you are an employee, you can file a worker's compensation claim, and the company has to follow the rules of the state the insurance company would consider jurisdiction.  As a former workers' compensation claim handler, MQ is legally bound to have your claim handled wihtout any issues.  If you have issues you have the right to go to the state workers' compensation board for assistance.
Employees now, now workers comp needed...nm

I think I work for the comp. with an M that you mention but they are the ones I made more with than
I had previously at another job..huh?? I do notice a discrepancy in accounts. On one account, I get a great line but when I tried another one of their accounts I was not making the same..not even close. I questioned it and was told that the way it is counted is per the hospital/client's contract and they set the rules. So, I just assumed that that facility got a contract that paid for less things than my main account. You can email me privately if you'd like to compare accounts. Trust me, I wont share with anyone. I have had more than my share of issues with this company and am seeking to move on. Good line count or not, sometimes it is just not worth it.
There are not very many negatives, it is just that those of us with positive experiences at ANY comp
x
That should read "no workers comp needed" sorry

Occuational Health reports/Workmen's comp
Do you think 8.5 cpl is good pay for these type reports.  I am accustomed to acute care work but was offered a job doing occupational health or workmen's comp reports, which are  2 to 3 line reports.  Do you think this is productive work or would it take all day to get 1200 lines.
WEBMEDX - NO RETURN ON COMP DEPOSIT - 3 MONTHS

It's been 3 months since I left the company, and I have not received my computer deposit yet.  I called and talked with HR and Accounts Payable, who promised me a check weeks ago.   I called today and was told they had a snag -- no one to sign checks, providing me with a lame excuse about having to send the checks to ATL next week, etc., etc.   NOT MY PROBLEM -- You took the money out of my check, now send it back since your computer was returned in good condition.   (Not to mention that I have not received my last paycheck -- haven't pursued that because it's less than $5).

Also -- when I worked for the company, the accounts (3 hospitals) continually ran out of work.  I was to give WEBMEDX 12 hours out of my day, checking every 30 minutes to see if there was work, and then sign off if there was no work so as not to abuse the minimum wage laws (i.e. so they would not have to pay me).   This was the worse experience I have ever had with a transcription service.   HORRIBLE!!

Anyone else have problems taking USA Type test? Cant get my comp to play the sound file.
Any suggestions? I really want to take the test but their sound file keeps loading onto my music program, and when I try to load it on Windows Medial Player it tells me I need codecs, so how would I find that to load?
Post from 2005 said you needed a Cphone and you HAD to buy Workman's Comp insurance to work
