of canned reports too. Your latter supposition is logical, and being on internet allows for more 'wandering' with ones time as well.

Have you compared line counts with 1 space vs. 2?
NM
DON'T SEE HOW THE 2 CAN BE COMPARED ...SM

Yes, the economy has taken a beating that's affecting countless good people - but the recession has been in play for a few months and will likely resolve in time, although no one seems to know how much time.  That said, the MT industry has been pushing the envelope for years and years now  as far it is going to go at this point.  Flagrant violation of federal labor laws, abusing time/wage laws, decreasing our pay in an almost geometric pattern lower and lower on a yearly basis - all the while demanding a higher standard of knowledge and skill from us, though.

The difference in the 2 is that the recession is due to economic factors that have snowballed - but, historically, we've come out of recessions/depressions before, right?  Things got back to fairly normal with a restored economy, restored wages, jobs.  However, not by the wildest stretch of mine or anybody's imagination is the MT business going to improve for anyone except the MTSOs or stockholders. Congratulations, VR technology -- I guess you win here, for the time being -- you sold the hospitals and MTSOs a fine bill of goods.  I did emphasize the FOR NOW ... the gravy train WILL come to a full stop.  The REAL losers, though, will be the PATIENT ... Hey, Suits, I'm talking to you ... I hope that's not YOUR mom or your kid lying in that hospital bed with a  ----ed-up medical record!

stinks as compared to what?

Me too. I'm a newbie (compared to most) and
I find that her (the owner's) direction on spelling is not correct.  I took this job because I wanted to get into the MT field and with no experience it was hard to find work.  I think I made a mistake.  I'm afraid that this stepping stone is going to hurt instead of help me in the future. She's very stern when it comes to a 24 hour TAT but the quality is not there due to her instructions.
Compared? I said let me tell you a story about me
This is how business is, has been, nothing new and if you let someone's choice of words asking do you need 3 days to reading something else into that, now she is the one who is seeking assistance. Businesses usually have 3 days off for a death. We are nothing special here and the sooner we learn that, the better off we will all be. We are not privileged and why some think this is harsh, terrible, just what it is.
What you get here compared to California
Had my SIL visit last year from Sacramento, CA and she could not believe what we paid for our home. She estimated my home and the homes around in the $500,000 range and up, which was more than most the homes here. I watch the home shows and shocked at what some people settle for when looking for a home there. They have nothing to show for say a home $200,000 or more. I used to live in Atlanta but moved to a more rural area where you can get a show piece for not that much.
Medquist. No other national compared that I sm
worked at Transcend, Spheris, MDI-FL, Webmedx. I work for local doctors and get paid by the hour.
Well, platform was very antiquated compared to
what I am used to. Account - I was given an account that was a honey the best! Well, I wouldn't have my worst enemy transcribe it.  Complained - immediately got put on another. Garbage. I don't mind the occasional challenging dictator, but garbage. Unstable platform. Then the old no work thing. Now, I had work, plenty of it, offered OT as brand new employee. Others, though, loyal employees for years, told no work. I was also allowed to work whenever I wanted, but not to tell. Garbage like that. So, while I was in the favored position, it backfired. I lost respect for the company, and also knew I couldn't trust them. While I was favorite today, who knows about tomorrow? Several of us started the same time, and similar run around. Lots of turmoil in the company, rumors, conflicting messages from mgmt - one day apologizing for no work and begging MTs to stay. This was on my first week - I left an unstable environment, so not what I wanted to hear. Just basically the same garbage as M, but M is a huge entity compared to T in the grand scheme of things, so I stuck with M. How's that for cryptic??? I have since heard there were long periods of no work for anyone - board is very quiet here. For reasons I can't really post...
Don't know, but what's slow about ExText compared

Compared to what I'm making now, "a lot of money"

Not compared to what I used to pay at the hospital I worked for. I have better coverage with sm
Unicare than the one that my hospital used (United Healthcare).  It includes prescription coverage too.  I am about half the premium I used to be.
So all MTs that work for a large service are bad MTs compared to those sm
that work for a smaller company? That could not be further from the truth. Some of the larger companies can attract better MTs with benefits, higher pay, etc than a smaller company ever can.

I think it depends on the MTs, not the service, as to the quality of the work.

I work for one of the companies the OP mentioned and the QA standards are MUCH more strict than smaller companies I have worked for in the past.

Yes, even without a raise, currently compared to my other choices, I would wholeheartedly recommend
As far as ESL - yes. Most accounts are 60%+ at least from what I have been offered. However, I would have to say that only on certain days do I get 60% ESL and most the time, I have an easier time understand the ESL dictators more than some of the non-ESL dictators. I guess it is kind of a wish-wash in regards to ESL. I would say even though it sounds like a lot, I think they are pretty comparible at least in my experience.

VR depends on what account you are on. Some of my accounts are phenominal and others not so good. However, they do give you the option to remove dictators (though don't seem to listen to half my requests) if their VR is bad. Plus the pay is the best in the business for VR at least from what I have seen.
Documented line count each report, then compared to ichart end of day
nm
Very easy, user friendly, a little slow and awkward compared to DQS though. (sm)
One of the best features is that you are able to search for your own samples on a particular dictator or patient. You do however have to be aware these are typed by other people and could potentially have errors.
I agree that it is an easy platform, but compared to other platforms I have used, lines are harder
to get, probably counted or weighted differently.
Insurance sucks compared to my old insurance... sm
The insurance seems like they don't want to cover anything, even simple prescriptions I used to pay 4 or 10 dollars on I now pay 20 to 43 dollars.  I like the company/people so far, just don't like the insurance.
off counts
Truthfully if it was a small enough discrepancy then I would and yes I could find a different job but it could just be that I need a different line counter. Do you use a line counter and if so which one do you use. Using MT Stars, Abacus, and Word Traverse I get a count of 1717 and I-Chart gives me 1655.15; MT Stars, etc. 1409, I-Chart 1350.55; MT Stars, etc. 1144, I-Chart 1088.32. If all the counters that I have used gave me all different counts I would be done with it but these 3 give me identical counts. As stated before in actuality its not really that bad because on the bigger picture its not that much money but this seems to be escalating and in order to monitor that I would need a comparable line counter which is the reason I asked what line counters others might be using. The problem could very well be that I just need to try a different line counter.
If you mean the 3 that are all together, that counts as ONE.

Getting line counts up

I recently was hired for a national company, after having worked in-house for about 5 years in a physical therapy clinic.  I'm still in the training status.  Every day when I check my line count, I cannot believe it!  It's in the 200-250 area.  I know I'm slow, having to look up almost all drugs, many procedures, etc., and I'm adding to the expander program every day, but I don't see how I can get a lot faster.  We don't get credit for header information and oftentimes this takes several minutes to look up, add to, correct.

Any suggestions/comments are welcome!

Line counts

Does anyone out there or has anyone out there worked for Transtech Medical Solutions and if so could you provide some input on their line counts and why there are 3 different platforms to figure your lines that give you 3 different figures and final line count is lower than those 3 platforms.  Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

LINE COUNTS
Be that as it may but have you have problems with your line count W?
line counts
I was given $10 guaranteed hourly for the first pay period, unless I did more than the 12,000 lines. That was a joke because I, like you, was, and still am, getting awful dictators. I did not make the 12,000 line requirement until 5 pay periods later. You will get there.....eventually. I can only dream what my line count would be if I had some decent dictators!
Line Counts
Line counts are pretty easy to get.  I don't have any problem, but of course, the longer you are with any company/account, the easier line counts get.  They require 150 lph, but they aren't sticklers about it, if you don't.  (It took me a few months to get to 150, but then after that, 175-180 is about the norm).  They let you pick your schedule.  They are pretty flexible with that.  I work a split shift and it works out great.  They have excellent shift differentials.  They use Shorthand as their Expander and if you're already using it, you can transfer it in.  They have quality equipment.  You don't spend a lot of time waiting.  As far as demographics go, for the most part, it all pre-fills.  Occasionally, you will get a patient you have to look up the name for, but it's easy and doesn't take long.  It's an easy system to get used to, as well.  You don't have to have 6 different windows open to do one thing.  They have normals and examples easily available for different dictators, etc.  Overall, it's definitely worth applying and taking the test.  (The tests have caused problems for some folks - there's a written one and then 3 or 4 dictation samples).
Line counts

I sure did not have trouble getting between 250-350 lines per hour when I was with MDI at 11 cpl.  I quit to take a radiology position that pays gross.  The Bayscribe platform is very user friendly and I never had trouble with any of my accounts (2).

Line Counts
I average 250-300+ lph on my acute care account at MDI.
line counts
I most certainly did read it.  I was stating that when I paste report into Word it does agree with the DQS line count, not that it does not agree.
I think you are right on both counts.... I know of a few people in sm
key positions who have handed in their resignations after seeing what Medware was willing to do.. and these are people whose absence will make a significant difference in how some important things will get done... and these are things that the hospitals will definitely notice... I have a feeling the worst is yet to come to them for being so greedy.. If having outstanding MTs is all they need to get by.. well then.. as of now they will likely be okay because those MTs who are there are just that...but. I think mgmt is in for an awakening... :)
Line counts

It really depends on how many characters you do in a day.  For instance, if your total chars are 50,000 - then divide that by 65 csl and you get 769 lines total.  And the same for a 72 csl - divided by 72 would be 694 lines total.

So the more chars you type the more lines it turns out to be.  Figure 85,000 chars would get you 1,307 lines!

Line counts

Again, I want to ask what can be done bout something... The way are lines are calculated by the MTs is to take 24 x the number of reports we have done in a day and that is just a guesstimate I am told.  The owner has a line-counting program called Docu-Count and we do not have have access to that program.  Again, when we get our paychecks.. it just shows the line count but we have no way of knowing exactly what our line count is compared to the what the owner comes up with.  I have asked a person there at the office who helps with payroll and explained that my line counting program comes up a lot more than the one they use at the office and the response to me was I have to go.  Does anyone besides me find this odd and know what I can do about it.. Im afraid to ask him for fear that I will lose my job and I need this job right now.  TIA.

line counts

Well, that's good to know.  Do you know if we are paid for the headings in the report? I think that might make the difference.  I literally go from one IC job in the morning, making right at 300 lph, to struggling for 200 to 225 at Precyse.  If we are paid for the headings (which we should be, because they don't appear out of thin air and they all take at least 3 keystrokes), then maybe I'm just too tired to pull off 300 lph at a second job.

verifying counts
My mom and I both worked at the same in-house hospital.  We both verified by typing the same report in Word and doing a character count divided by 65.
TT Line counts

Since the Ichart line counting program for TT has been having problems, I have noticed that my line counts have gone down.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  I am starting to get worried about it.

TIA

line counts
anyone working for TTS having trouble with their line counts?
TTS line counts
An email was sent out to all about that earlier. It appears to be an ongoing issue with Dictaphone, and probably something they have no control over. I am sure they will get it straightened out soon, they can't afford not to.
Line counts
Let me ask you this then, to whose benefit is this equipment geared to - not to increase an MTs productivity, give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ichart service, Dictaphone can help you assess the true cost of your current transcription infrastructure.

Past audits have revealed some of the following billing discrepancies:

Inadequate Billing Detail.
No true MT line counting standards for billing.
Challenging Audit Trail and Process.
Special Characters Can Inflate Line Counts By 15%.
Invisible Characters Can Inflate Line Counts Up To 20-40%!
Poorly Designed Templates can lead to Excessive Line Counts.
Multi-page Reports can Drive Excessive Characters and/or hidden words.
Line Counts

Not too long ago there were numerous posts regarding Transtech and the line count situation.  I was just wondering if any TransTech employees are still experiencing discrepancies with their line counts.

Thanks

Line Counts
Nope...no problems now or ever. The Dictaphone system might lag from time to time, but it's not TransTech's fault. It's no big deal at all. All we have to do is just wait a couple of hours and the lines count program calculates out. There's just a short lag. I've never lost so much as a character.
line counts
Do you use your own line counter and if so what kind do you use?
line counts are off
If you dont use you own counter to compare then of course you would not notice a discrepancy but if you use your own line counter and your counts are close to what I-Chart then what line counter are you using.
line counts
Yes I have talked with management repeatedly to no avail which is why I posted the question here. It just might be that I am not using the right kind of line counter or have not set my variables correctly. The reason I asked the question is that if others are using their own line counters and their counts are relatively close to I-Chart then I wanted to find out what they were using so that I too could try that and see what happens from there. So, if you are using your own counter if you could tell me what you use that would be very much appreciated.
line counts
True and true, and if it was that I would forget about it but if something is wrong now and it goes on who is to say it won't escalate. But, like I said I just wanted basically to find out what, if any, line counters other transcribers might be using so that I could at least try that.
Do you have to go into I-chart to get counts or (sm)

does control I give you an accurate count.

I know it is the thought that counts
but it just seems like stuff they had laying around and decided to just give out. I really do not need extra stuff just sitting around. To each their own though. I really do not want stuff with the company name written all over it. I appreciate having plenty of work and a simple thank you.
TT and line counts
How can they expect you to meet their requirements when they consistently run out of work?
Line Counts

Does anyone else work for a company where you can't check your line counts?  Its driving me NUTS!  I've worked for them for 3 weeks and my keeping track through the Lanier is always way more than they say I have done.  I really like the account but might leave if it keeps up.  Any advice appreciated!

Line counts
For the life of me, I cannot find my offer letter with the required lines. Why don't you just go through their website and e mail them, or call. I am sure they will respond. Besides, the requirement may have changed in a year. Good luck!
MDI line counts
Does anyone else have a difficult time making lines with MDI-MD. Doing multispeciality clinic and some discharge.  It just seems like an awful lot of typing for little lines. Major struggle.  Also it seems as if you are not getting credit for demographics, addresses for letters etc. Do they not pay for headers, footers. What about headings? Something definitely seems odd. There is no real way to get exact lines on Bayscribe. They give you an estimate of line and amount you made but the paystub doesn't even tell you the total lines you did a pay period. Just seems odd
Line counts are low
My line count is down by at least 200 lines per day even though I produce the same amount of documents as I did on the old platform. So, things do not add up.
Keystrokes counts
I think it will be pretty easy to make line count after the first few days. I started yesterday and there were some problems with the hospital system itself, which was no one's fault, but it seems to be okay now. My biggest problem is the learning curve with the demographics and looking up patients and unfamiliar doctor names. I know there is an easier way - I just cannot seem to absorb everything at once. The line count should be no problem after the first few days. I haven't used a C-phone in years - takes some getting used to.
But the counts are SLOW sometimes
TransTech does not cheat anybody of their lines. It IS frustrating for the line counts to be slow in catching up but do you think TT would even be in business if they paid what the count showed a few hours later? You can type 500 lines and only 200 will show on ichart 8 hours later. It will eventually catch up. TT would not pay you for only 200 lines. TT should do a better job of communicating issues with ichart or find another counting utility altogether however.
