Part time requirement is now [2008-11-20]
750 lines per day, I think.

I have 4 accounts, doing all work types, and I usually have enough work but this is the slow time of [2008-11-19]
year so we are scrambling a little for lines. Easy platform, paychecks DD, always on time.

this part got me.... [2008-11-18]
For those who have had a bad experience, I suggest giving it another try. Aiya!!

part time editing positions [2008-11-17]
Does anyone know of any companies that need/have part time editing positions? TIA

I am only assuming that is the account they are hiring for. (sm) [2008-11-17]
I know I saw a memo stating there was a large response of those of us wanting to work that account. Maybe they just filled the shifts we were willing to work and are hiring for other shifts. I really don't know. Just trying to be optimistic.

Decent company, good people, pay on time, work low sometimes. nm [2008-11-17]

No I do not. Not enough work at the time I was there. sm [2008-11-17]
However, things may have changed and they may have added a few accounts. I do know some work was subcontracted from other MTSOs and a lot of it was eScription. The pay was 9 cpl straight and 4.5 cpl editing. I was there about 2-1/2 years ago. Sorry I don't have more recent info for you.

Webmedx hiring? [2008-11-16]
Please, please do those of us who work at Webmedx a favor and do not apply. There is a consistently low work load and more hirings just takes more and more away from us. Going to be a bad holiday season for a lot of us......And will Webmedx explain this to our children?

FOR LONG TIME MT: generic : Brand.....s/m [2008-11-16]
No, MTs are NOT supposed to KNOW if a med is generic or brand. HOW COULD WE? We are not doctors and no pharmacists. How can we know, especially if it is the first time that we encounter this drug? We have to LOOK it UP, what often takes a lot of time. But we do it. Because we HAVE to know if we have to Cap it or not cap it. Do you know that Brand drugs are CAPPED, whereas generic are NOT CAPPED??? I suppose not, otherwise YOUR COMMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN QUITE DIFFERENT. As what do you function: As an MTSO, MT or QA?? I hope that the time will come that MTSOs AND QAs will be made OBSOLETE, likewise this AAMT, now AHDI (or whatever), because they cause ONLY CHAOS and MONEY ! YOU OWE US AN APOLOGY!

Webmedx hiring - work plentiful? nm [2008-11-15]

Sounds like being self-employed, no time to die. [2008-11-14]
Time off for the self-employed is the same except they'll find another service and replace you if you miss one day. No hearts.

Takes a lot of time to hear back [2008-11-14]
I was job hunting in July and had the same experience, no responses. It took weeks to start hearing back, then the responses started coming in. I even got some responses 2 or 3 months after applying. It just seems to take a long time right now. You have to be very patient.

TO DONNA AND LONG TIME MT [2008-11-14]
I hate to burst your bubble, but I am a good MT and in demand. I graduated from Andrews School, which is the best in the business and have been told that my work is beyond and above MTs that have been in this field for many years. I have a total of 5 years in this business, but have become disenchanted with it. Both of you have a right to your opinions, but do not assume I am not a good MT because I am leaving this field. I am a highly skilled MT with many offers on the table, I want to get out because I do not like the way this field is heading, and I believe if you show up for work, on your scheduled shift, then work should be available. Work being available when I have agreed to a specific shift is the problem, but also no work being available unless I sit on the computer all day is also a problem. Thanks for your negative opinions, but I am a good MT.

is that the DQS account they are hiring for ? [2008-11-14]
40 hours a week at only 8 cpl

I don't know why they are hiring and they are [2008-11-12]
advertising on a site that doesn't get a lot of hits, so maybe they think that we won't see it. Like I said above, they may have something in the works, but right now there is just not enough work. Downtime pay depends on how long you have been there, but I can't believe they are going to hire new people just to pay them downtime. You can apply through their website if you don't care that it is possibly a waste of time. It is a great company and I they have many long-term MTs.

I don't know why they are hiring, I haven't had enough [2008-11-11]
work for 2 months. They do pay for downtime, but it doesn't make up for the lines. I don't know what account it is, but I do know there is one account that has a large amount of ESL dictators. It isn't PC to say Orientals, it is Asian, but I don't know the nationality of the dictators.I don't know if this is for the new account or the existing one.The pay is good, though I don't know if they have a published pay scale. They asked me what I wanted, I said, and they said okay. Pay is DD, on-time. Benefits are very good. The platform is Lotus Notes, but you type in Word, use SpeedType for an expander, use Stedman's Spellcheck. They provide all equipment/sofware, you pay $300 deposit, $50 per check. There are some things I would improve on, but it is still the best company I have worked for in a long time. Minimum QA score is 98.5. I always score higher and don't find it difficult, but not everyone is able to do that and don't last long. You get daily QA feedback so there are no surprises. You don't start getting deducts until you are off 100% QA. They are strict about you following your schedule, though will work with you if you need off for doctor's appointments, etc.

I heard this a long time ago, (couple of yrs) NM [2008-11-07]

Cindy always paid me on time... [2008-11-07]
When I was there earlier this summer she paid once a week with a 1-week holdback (so you should get your first check in a couple weeks). I have worked for her twice...for a while in 2007 and a while in 2008 and never had a problem with pay. In fact, her line counts usually came out higher than mine. Good luck, I hope you like your job there.

But that's not IC is it? The company suggesting a time I mean. [2008-11-04]
If there are turn around times can't you work anytime then? I don't know what to suggest, either work weekends when you do not have to or find a new job? But is there true IC anywhere where there is work all the time on your chosen days and times within the TAT. Or are all the companies like this? I'd certainly like to hear feedback on that.

Anyone know anything about On-Time Transcription? [2008-11-03]
I think they use Emdat platform but not sure. Wondered if anyone knew much about them, i.e., nice to work for, plenty of work, decent accounts?

DeVenture hiring again [2008-11-03]
I'm a former DeVenture employee.. but I feel the need to defend them in this case - I was ALWAYS paid on time - ALWAYS! They might not be perfect, but they paid me on time.

Yes, that's right. Sad part is the jobs are not [2008-11-03]

sup is in the works. If you do what you are supposed to do - work your shift, follow account specifics, meet/exceed quality standards, and sign out of IM if you're away from the computer for more than a potty break you shouldn't have reason to have contact from sup. I'm fairly new and have had my share of issues and honestly thought about quitting because of this person too, but decided I wasn't going to let this person run me off. My quality was always good, had a few goofs on account specific because of switching back and forth between accounts, but I settled into a routine, consistently work my schedule, consistently exceed minimum QA scores, gotten used to account specifics so I can get the right ones w/o thinking, and I just don't have any issues now.

Anyone willing to say how Proscript is at this time? ... SM [2008-11-02]
Especially work load, ability to get line counts, generally good accounts, and benefits. Thanks!

DeVenture hiring again [2008-11-01]
There isn't even enough work for the employees they have now.

The best way to get your own accounts [2008-11-20]
Come up with a flyer that states what you do (transcription), what your costs are (and don't sell yourself cheap - you may need to get new equipment or with working locally, it may involve going to pick up microcassettes and then taking the transcription back to the office), and what kind of Turn Around Time you can provide. Really sell your experience and the quality of the work you can do. Then, start local. Go to your own doctor, OBGYN, etc and see if they need any help with transcription. If they don't, see if they can recommend anyone. You may even be able to get into the VA since you're a military wife - use any and all connections. You can also do your flyers on postcards and mail them out to specialists in the area (use postcards because postage is cheaper). If you decide to use any of your past reports to show as an example of what you can do, make sure to remember to delete any personal information about the patient from that file. The next step is to make follow up phone calls - get the names of the office managers that deal with hiring transcriptionists - now would be a good time to even offer like the first 500 lines free or something like that, just to get your foot in the door. Since you said you already have Christmas pretty well covered, this would set you up for getting paid by December or January. You can also make personal visits to the doctor's offices, just to drop off a flyer and give them a face to put with the name. Any place that says they aren't looking right now, keep at them because eventually they will be and then they'll remember you. I did all these things when first starting out and came up with three really good accounts, one of which I still work with today, seven years later. Good luck to you and I hope even just some of this helps you out. =)

OKAY LET ME SET THE RECORD..... [2008-11-20]
Straight. My reports have no PHI none whatsoever on them or in them or anything to that nature. I know exactly how the confidentiality works, I have had 5 years in a hospital facility doing more than just medical records, so I should know the HIPAA law, legal and nonlegal regulations. Many of you don't know if these were reports saved from my schooling or nothing. Many of you are just jumping the gun as usual, and it don't surprise me none. I am not getting sassy, but I think I left out additional information to let you think that. My fault on that part. You all have a nice day

I believe it depends on what platform u work on. I work on [2008-11-20]
Extext and I love it!!!!! I have not transcribed even part time in years. First night in less than 2 hours hit 300+ lines. Second night a little over 2 hours hit 350+ lines. This is all learning a new system so I find it interesting and fun.

To MQer [2008-11-20]
I am one of your co-workers. I don't care for the Q any more than you. However, in all honesty...my line count doubled when I went into DQS. It was ASR that turned it into a flaming downward spiral. DQS is all about shortcut functions and typing speed. It does take about a month of like full time killing yourself to get used to it. I have worked on 3 different platforms before. As an aside, you have to remember this was back in the VERY BEGINNING of DQS before they added all the templates and standards into the system. Now it sucks almost as bad as ASR. I think it will depend for them on what they are doing with DQS. If they don't have all that stuff they have to do like the Q makes us do, they may actually improve. I would have to say that just about anything the Q touches these days goes sour. BTW, I was reading on a posting in the SEC filings that the Q has some sort of patent infringement suit going on over DQS.

To penny... [2008-11-20]
You have a point. I have tried to do this for 9 years now with the same company. This last one really has me thinking though. If they keep cutting, pretty soon we will have to pay to work for them because what we get will not even pay our internet bill. I keep going until I find something I am sure will work for me. I do not care for uncertainty especially in this time. I may be not happy, miserable, and completely beside myself over it, but I won't just quit on a whim. Did that once in my younger years and learned to regret it when the paycheck never came.

Thank you [2008-11-20]
Thank you for the response. Hey Blondie, I am along with you. I will have 2 years under my belt here next month. Wow, time does fly. I would like to get started with my own accounts early in the game. That way, I can learn how to cut, go, and come as they say. I am tired of complaining about not enough work, and the same ole, same ole. It is just about time I start doing something about it. I know many Transcriptionist understand where I am coming from. I forgot all about the VA hospital. Thanks Zville. They always need something there at that place. Now, my next question is, how do I draw up a contract, and can anyone send me a good sample that I could edit and use for my own convience. Still thanks to all that reply. I currently work with a company, but I just gotta handle my business on my own and make some real dough! Ya know what I mean!

Just curious, none of you save your work? - sm [2008-11-20]
I save my reports and hang onto them for a while in case the doctor needs a copy, also so the next time they dictate on that patient I don't have to re-type everything, saves me tons of time as I am not the fastest typist in the world. Granted I don't show them to anyone as the OP infers, and she can do that IF she edits out all the information pertaining to patient name, drs. names, etc. I bet most MTs keep copies of their reports, it would be foolish not to. My one doc calls me at least once a week looking for a report, though it is up on the FTP they won't retrieve it themselves, I end up encrypting it and emailing it to them. So if I did not have a copy then what would I tell them, sorry, guess you will just have to tough it out and go to the FTP because I cannot help you since I save nothing. --- My work computer is just that, no one else uses it, and that is all I use it for.

Thanks for sharing your information LTMT! [2008-11-20]
Wow, you have been through a lot and I admire your ability to bounce back. I just know whatever company you choose to work with you will do well, and good luck on your move! Thanks too for the feedback on all the companies. I thought that E-Trans was very nice too, but decided in my heart I did not want shift work, and since it did not work out the first time (the ExText account), I would just pass. I am going to keep Encompass in mind for the future because they seem great like you said, and I have the quality but have been in this for so many years, don't want to be stressed out. Like you, I get insecure, and that is when I do worst. LOL. I wish you all the best. For me, I am now going with MDI-MD and know that if I maintain my quality and my flexibility I can stay away from shift work. I think we all need to put priorities and what we need to do in life and then hang onto our decision. Rough seas, but if you hang on to the life boat the storm always passes and we always seem to make it. Thanks for writing and all the best to you! :)

Line pay for Per Diem [2008-11-20]
Hi everyone. I was offered a job per diem at 7.5 cents a line. I am an acute-care with 29 years experience. I think this is entirely too low. People said that would consider increasing to 8 cents per line after a couple of weeks, but there is no guarantee. My hubby went through the roof when he heard how much they wanted to pay me. I have a job right now that does not pay for spaces, rate is decent though 10 cents to 10.5 centers with no Sat work unless there is OT. I have another job offer where I have been hired to start in Dec which pay will be 9 to 9.5 cents working Tuesday-Sat first shift and now this per diem job. Per Diem job really offered me this jobfull-time, they have PT too but benefits were better at the job starting in Dec. I do feel I am worth more and I just wanted to use them PT just for pocket money. I told them I would try it for 2 weeks, and she said lots of MTs do that and then they go FT. They do pay weekly too. I am torn if I should even take this job at 7.5 as there is no guarantee they will give me more money. I would just have to trust them and if they do not I know what to do. Any advice. I am supposed to train today. I also have to decide if I want to stay where I am at 10 cents a line or go to a job that pays 9 cents a line with spaces counted and they do not care how long you work. My 10 cents a line job now does not let you go past 40 hours. Decisions, decisions.

I save all my reports [2008-11-20]
I'm required to do so. You wouldn't believe how many times I'm contacted to send them this note or that note because they lost it. I also use previous reports as a form for typing previous reports on the same patient as my doctors tend to use almost the exact same report every time (I only do office notes).

Not Replying To Testers [2008-11-20]
It would also be nice if you replied to people who take your test, instead of just blowing them away and making them wonder if they passed. Not very good business manners. I had a phone call from you, then you sent the test, and I took lengthy time trying to perfect it, only to be ignored. Even a you didn't pass reply would be better than 0.

My opinion [2008-11-20]
10 cents a line without spaces is only about 8 cents a line with spaces, I think. So if you've been offered 9-9.5 cents with spaces, I'd go for that. Meanwhile, you could try the 7.5 cents a line job for two weeks until the December job starts You said you'd try it for two weeks, and if they agreed to that, why not? Then you'll find out if they will raise the rate. If you like it, I'd keep it per diem when the December job starts, just in case that doesn't work out. Then you'd still have the option of diong that full-time later. Just my opinion.

Wondering [2008-11-20]
I was wondering about them, too. I am actually looking for a part-time position that will let me work when I want and for how long.I have a full-time MT position for a local hospital right now, and I am just looking for something to provide me with extra cash (especially right now before the holidays). If anybody knows if this company does that or not, please let me know! If they don't, does anybody know of any companies (not scams, of course) that I could do this with? Thank you!

MDI-MD [2008-11-20]
can anyone tell me if you are not getting your lines in due to not enough work are you expected to get them in once and if work is available during pay periods? I am looking for a more flexibility which is what I was used to once upon a time. Too many ups and downs where I work and I know that can be a given anywhere. I just want to feel appreciated again even if its part time! TIA. :)

ARe they persisent [2008-11-20]
in you meeting the line counts? What I mean is do they get ticked off if you do not always get all of them in? I would not mind part time to try it out but I am afraid if it will interfere with my other job but I would turn that into pt if i were hired by mdi-md. I had an offer with them last year but had to back down for other personal reasons at the time. Thank you for your help!

Deventure sm [2008-11-20]
Okay I am seeing some bad stuff out there about Deventure. Are there any current nonbiased ex employess or current employess that can give me a run down. I have a few options and don't want to make a mistake, though when I was asking for information about Trans Tech I got a lot of negative feedback about them hiring and firing and not enough work and I could not be happier there. Now I am looking for part time work and have been contacted by Deventure. Hoping to get an honest opinion. Thanks.

Need IC advice/help--TIA [2008-11-20]
I have just been offered a part-time position doing MT work for a local surgeon. The onlything is he may hire me as IC instead of employee and I am not sure how much to charge. I have never worked as an IC before. I know to charge more because I have to pay my own taxes, but have no idea how much. Can anyone offer any advice? TIA!

lines PT for mdi-md [2008-11-20]
off hand, i do not remember what they quoted for part time. Would you happen to know the lines that are required for part time? Once again, thank you. your info was much appreciated :)

Lines [2008-11-20]
I'm full-time and committed to 1200 lines per day. If on occasion there isn't enough work, I'm supposed to email Carlotta and let her know I signed on but there was no work. We have a 24-hour window to do our committed lines. Hope that helps :-)

Lanier accounts [2008-11-20]
How much do you define as a ton? I have a Lanier account, and while there is always work, add a few more full-time MTs on it and there won't be. This is a really big account, but the typical work loads are half of what they were when I started on it a year ago. I'm not jumping on the bandwagon of telling people to come get on my account.

Lanier accounts [2008-11-20]
Well, I am only part-time but I do around 1000 lines per day and am always being asked if I would like to do more.

I don't have any problem with [2008-11-20]
taking my job seriously. I havenever once in my 40-year career shorted any client of my promised lines except for one time when I broke my leg. I was back at work the next day. I think doing the lines you say you will do is only a matter of integrity. I define integrity as keeping your agreements. Just my two cents' worth.

The absolute question looking for [2008-11-19]
In these hard times where thousands are being laid off at this time from bankers to autoworkers to just about everybody... those of us who are on this board, gainfully employed albeit often running out of work but nonetheless with a job and getting some kind of paycheck every time... Here's an honest question looking for an honest answer: Is the company which you work for, be it as an employee, IC, or SE a blessing to you in your life since you have a job and a paycheck, just at this moment... or is it really that terrible that you would quit right now and take another or look for another only topossibly get into the same situation or worse. This MT is asking because after recently looking around, interviewing, and being eitherignored by the application process, or treated rudely by a recruiter, or just plain stood up at an interview or interviews... is it really that bad out there now to put up with a possible situation where the next company is the same or worse? Thanks for your answers... If you'd like please put where you work and why you want to leave or stay... and if it is worth risking taking a leap elsewhere especially during thisdifficult financial time, or during layoffs, the holidays, etc. Thanks!

I would not leave [2008-11-19]
I work for a small company as an IC. The company knows IC means I work when I can or want to. I have no set schedule. That is #1 importance to me. But aside from that, the account I work on is really nice. I have run out of work on occasion, but it is not a regular thing and seems to happen mostly when someone new is hired. The new people seem to go in and work around the clock, taking work from those of us who have been there longer and tending to be the cherry pickers, which annoys me somewhat, but that usually dies down within a couple of weeks and then things get back to normal, with enough work for everyone. There are some ESL dictators but not a ton, and many of those are easily understood. The owners of the company are really easy people to work with, very understanding, etc. The pay is always on time, and I feel I earn decent pay for what I do and I feel like I am valued there. I would not leave them now or otherwise. Now my second job is a whole different story. I work as a coder for a large hospital, and i would leave in a heartbeat if I could. I work from home and again have no set schedule but do have to work xx number of hours each week; I just pick the times to work. That is it's only advantage. The work is demanding and difficult. We get no respect for it at all. The stress is incredible as we work on a production standard that is virtually impossible to meet. We have 0, that's right 0, people in our group who meet the standard, and we have 27 coders. The expectations are unachievable, and we are constantly pressured to do more and more and more but we get less and less and less in return. Sounds familiar? However, this is the job that provides benefits for myself and my hubby, so I am stuck there for time eternal (or until Medicare kicks in for us). In my lifetime, I have always enjoyed working, but this is truly the first time I could say I hate my job and mean it wholeheartedly. That is why I feel for so many of the MTs out there who are stuck in situations that are making them miserable. Considering the amount of time an individual spends working, shouldn't we be able to feel good about what we do?

Losing good employees [2008-11-19]
They are about to lose another one...I'm a long time employee and just can't take it anymore. I work on multiple platforms and still have no work and the work I do have is 90% ESLs. I went from about 20% to 30% ESLs to suddenly 80% to 90% ESLs. You tell me these hospitals have no American doctors? It must all be going to India but you tell me why the Indians are not doing the Indian doctors? Wouldn't that be easier for them? I have had no raise ever since I've been here. Always told I'm at the top of the pay limit. I'm giving my notice right after Thanksgiving.
