To any Spheris employees, I quit in August and would like a copy SM [2008-11-18]
of my YTD earnings. I have called HR but they never return my call. I forgot how to access the online ADP. Can anyone give me a phone number to call, payroll number or something so I can call and get a copy of my earnings? Thanks.
Spheris - Losing benefits??? [2008-11-17]
Can anyone tell me if Spheris is taking away their benefits for employees? I see benefits listed on their website, but another company I used to work for says it is so.
This is a former company because that place took away all our benefits and paid 2 cents a line less. And we are suppose to be thankful to just have a job.
It gets to the point that you look for a place not that is good to work for but not as lousy as the one before. .

Are you a spokesperson for Spheris? [2008-11-16]
No, I am not a spokesperson for Spheris. I a lowly MT, like the rest of us. I just worked very hard and put in lots of overtime because I HAD TO make the money due to my personal situation. I'm just saying it can be done if you put your mind to it.

Yes, you can.
ANYONE WITH SPHERIS KNOWLEDGE.. PLEASE.. [2008-11-08]
Is there anyone out there who has current working knowledge of Spheris? Hospital just sold off to them, all the employees given little to no information.. they said they only send stuff to India on a third shift basis if needed... Please reply if you have had any current experience with them, either good or bad... such as hours, flexibility, any information would be greatly appreciated.. thanks again all MTs out there... cindy
Spheris [2008-11-08]
I was with Spheris for 8 years, and they send as much as possible to India. You can find their EC fildings on line, and they tout their cheap India labor as their primary focus in future profit margin. They continue to take US work from us to send to India. My account, which I had had for 6 years went straight to India; my second account India received all the easy authors, sticking us with only ESL; and so on.
Spheris, I hate to tell you this, but....ms [2008-11-08]
If you all do decide to stay on with Spheris, you will not make enough money to live on...unless you are really used to the really difficult ESLs because if your hospital had any really good dictators, they will go to India, no doubt about it. I am so sorry this happened to you. This place is a disgrace.

Spheris Info [2008-10-20]
I was wondering if anyone has any positive/negative info about Spheris. Most of what I have found is too old to be of any value. Am looking for cpl, insurance, schedule, incentive, or basically any info that you would be willing to share. Thanks in advance. Amy
Spheris [2008-10-20]
I worked for Spheris for a short time.....I know the old posts are not so great about them, I did not mind working for them, BUTtheir pay scale is so low, I couldn't make ends meet. Also, sometimes they ran short on work, so that hurt the income also. But, in general, they were easy to work for just couldn't do it due to the pay
Spheris - worked there recently [2008-10-20]
I worked there for 3 years, left in July. I made good money there, but I've heard that they are starting people out at a lower cpl now than they did 3 years ago. I thought they were basically fine to work for until they started switching all their accounts to ASR. When my account was getting ready to switch, I gave my notice,as I don't think you can make any money doing ASR. Insurance expensive, schedules vary, icentive pay was decent, but think that is being eliminated with new platform/ASR. In my opinion they are not such a good place to work anymore, unless you don't mind doing ASR for a pittance. Overall they were fair to me, but not very much communication with employees.
Spheris Info [2008-10-20]
Thanks for the info! Do you know of a company that has good benefits that are not too expensive, as well as decent pay and flexible schedule? I'm not asking too much, right?
Spheris decent? [2008-10-20]
Spheris insurance is reasonably priced but horrifically poor coverage; up to $3000 annual deductible. Pay used to be excellent; you know what you would get according to level of account. If you wanted more cpl, you could transfer to a higher level account. No more. Pay is top secret (lower). No more account levels. Flexible schedule not likely but depends on your supervisor/account needs. Most accounts now transitioning to some/most SR (even lower pay). PTO only if FT. Incentive is decent and attainable if FT. Resources are excellent to do your job (help loops, desktop references, training modules, etc.). Direct deposit always on time. If you don't need good insurance and can work for what they offer you, you would probably do okay.
Spheris pay [2008-10-16]
Two years ago I was offered 6 cpl with 7 years experience. I turned it down.
Spheris Pay? [2008-10-15]
my company just sold out to Spheris. they said they would take us on, but i want to see if i can negociatean equal pay to my currently wage if that happens. anyone know what the going rate is per line and what the line requirement is? they say it we are dying for information and not getting much.
thanks
spheris [2008-10-11]
Amen to that -- I worked for Spheris for 9 years and never got a raise. Finally I went to Meridian, where it's wonderful!
this is at Spheris [2008-09-24]
I knew that we were getting paid less for SR and that was 6 cents a line but now a line does not equal a line is a slap in the face for our knowledge and experience, in my opinion. It feels that soon we will be referred to as typists not transcriptionists.
It also does not seem fair that we get paid even less when we are doing just as much work on SR than regular transcribing, which it is at Spheris on my account. The machine actually has reverted back to its original settings of putting wrong words, no words and swear words (that is correct) instead of anything remotely close to what is dictated, which means I am typing whole sentences at slave wage.
I left Spheris because of SR [2008-09-24]
I worked at Spheris for 3 years and was doing quite well. I left right before my account transitioned to the new platform and SR. I knew I couldn't make any money at SR. I went to a company that does not use SR (smaller company), and love it. If I were you, I'd get out now. The big companies are not the place to be right now.
Spheris [2008-09-17]
I am in the same boat. Have been there 3 years. I used to love my job with them, plenty of OT. Now, very little work for the last 3-4 months. It's so bad on my accounts that sometimes I have to take PTO to make up 40 hours a week. I wish I knew what was going on. I am training for the new program on Monday and dread it. I, too have sent out resume's and have a couple of offers, although they are not the schedule I want. I don't want to leave, but may be forced to.
Still at Spheris [2008-09-17]
I am still at Spheris. I worked part time for them when they used to be Edix. I came to them after Medquist did not work out for me. I also worked part time for Focus Infomatics when they were starting out (and it sounds like they have not improved).
I am still struggling to make the minimum line count on SR and they are talking about raising the line count for us now. They send you corrective actions for everything even clocking in and out incorrectly! I can understand when it applies to actual transcribing but sometimes you just hit the wrong button clocking in. They put you on mentoring for any reason including asking a question about the account specifics!
When I worked for the local hospital, I used to do regular transcribing and able to produce 1400 lines a day! That included taking a break and talking to the ladies in the office and taking a lunch. These days I work straight 7 hours w/o a lunch and still cannot get to 1200 lines! Also the pay stinks! Apparently one of the places I applied to is only offering 0.04 cents a line for SR and that is lower than Spheris.
I am afraid of the small companies because they have sold to bigger companies or dropped the ball (JLG and Focus Info were small when I worked for them). I may have to find a different career. Now if I could just figure out what that would be.
Flooding of resumes on job posts [2008-11-19]
Sent a couple of resumes recently and getting an automatic answer from several companies that due to the influx of so many resumes, it will be impossible to even see them all. If I have more than 3 years' experience it will be kept in the file for 6 months until they get to it.
The most recent automatic answer I got was from a company which did not even put an ad out. It was one where I found great posts on another board after doing a lot of archive searching.
Is this because of recent MQ paycuts and problems, and because C-bay bought it out. Perhaps the time has come for the work pool to be flooded with more competition if the giant of MQ is finally seeing a walk-out. Also, the other biggies like Spheris and Transcend seem to be losing a lot of people.
Anybody have any idea on this? Not only do we have the influx of new graduates, and now the really experienced hospital MTs who have been with MQ for so long, but we also have India too... are the odds growing less that our resumes will even be seen, I wonder...
I just hope that all the MQ people and everyone here in the US finds a good home and soon. We all deserve a good job and I just wonder how we will get through this time. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, or just a good we are all in this together post would be appreciated.
It can be done for limited people. And they quit allowing [2008-11-17]
Yes, I'm sure, not for YOUR account.
I do believe $50,000 may be possible for many at MQ, but not for Spheris and if Spheris finds out they are paying more than a few MTs $50,000, they will no doubt lower rate of pay again.

LTMT [2008-11-17]
It sounds like you have a great fit for yourself. I have never worked for Keystrokes or had any dealings with them. I think that the key (no pun intended) is your sentence I AM VERY HAPPY THERE. If you have found happiness, you have found what most people are looking for. I feel the same way about MDI--I have found my ideal match. A friend of mine, a very shy person by nature, purposefully chose Spheris because she wanted a big company where she could be one of the many. That would drive me crazy, but it suited her just fine. I think the key (again that word!) to all of this is that there are different needs for each person and we all need to respect each other's choices. I am glad that you found such a good place for yourself and wish that every other MT is as happy as you and I are at the end of the day. Take care.

I think the only ones left working as MTs are those who are the fastest and strongest. [2008-11-16]
This is for 50,000.00 a year working at Spheris: I have made over 50,000.00 the last 2 years working for Spheris. The year before that, which is the first year I worked for them, I made over 70,000.00. Yes, it definitely is possible.

Sounds like they are trying to fool somebody [2008-11-08]
From my experience they send as much stuff to India as they possibly can. All the really, really good accounts go to India, and we get the hard accounts or the ones who refuse to let their work go to India. Spheris is not a place I would work for if I were looking for a new job. It is quickly going to speech recognition, which isn't bad, but it seems that the workload is getting worse with the work going out the door quicker.
I work a 12-hour window, but I don't know what they offer new employees. Insurance is the pits. Other benefits are good.

I could be wrong, but . . . [2008-11-01]
I believe Spheris was originally HealthScribe and they were an Indian company to begin with.
GIVE IT TO THE INDIANS [2008-10-30]
You are so right. And to take it further I have to say, we as MTs let this happen. Granted, it was the old frog in the pot situation, but the water is boiling now and it's time to JUMP OUT! MTs as a whole simply need to REFUSE to put up with all this cra...nonsense.
I only work my own accounts, as well as some work for a wonderful, small service owner. I tried Spheris and Transolutions a few years back only to experience all the horrors lamented on these boards, andquit both of them in a matter of 2 or 3 weeks. Life's too short to be miserable and broke. You're not making any money anyway!!!!! Have you ever figured out your hourly wage? Especially when you're sitting there all hours just hoping some work will come in!This has been going on for so long, it's pretty clear that it's not going to change, so LET THE INDIANS HAVE IT!!!
Thanks for the reply [2008-10-29]
thanks for letting me know. from what I read on the board, I am worried about the multiple dictators and accounts. Do you find that on your account? I just don't want to get into a situation like Spheris when I worked for them. Hundreds of doctors and multiple accounts. My head was spinning all day long at work and I was miserable. Thanks
Transcend [2008-10-22]
What choice do we have --- Spheris? Medquest? They are all the same, is there one out there where you just type other than going across the water - I know they type there, lol They should just pay a litttle better for VR and we would all be happy I believe. I had to give up working at home and go back into the dreaded traffic, getting up, getting dressed scene again - YUCK!! If anyone knows of a good place to work just SHOUT it out - get me out of the interstate for an hours a day - please!!!
I work there... [2008-10-21]

Work here now, wouldn't hire on here now [2008-10-20]
I work for Spheris now and am doing okay, but I wouldn't hire on here now as I don't think I would get the deal I have now. Also with speech recognition I have to wonder if the workload will be enough for the employees we have now. Most of the good work goes to India and I would never work for another company again that sends work out of the country.
Insurance is crappy and expensive.
This is a marginal company to work for if you are already here but not something I would sign up for if I were looking for a job now.
HELP!! [2008-10-16]
I've worked for Spheris for the past 6 years, for the 3 years before that I was trained on the job and worked for a local hospital. My income has steadily gone from about 26.00 per hour to now close to 12.00 per hour. Obviously I can't take it anymore, my entire life is suffering from this drop in pay, the stress is eating me alive! I know there are a lot of people on here that worked for Spheris and left and were happy about that change, but I just can't seem to get up the nerve to leave them. Every time I test and find a company that sounds decent, I look on this board only to find that they don't pay on time or at all, thebenefits are horrible, the supervisors are nasty, etc.....
I desperately need a new job. I would like to find a company that doesn't run out of work EVERY DAY, has somewhat affordable benefits with less than a 3500.00 yearly deductable, and is hiring for first shift. I don't mind working either Saturday or Sunday, but both is impossible when you have kids. I had looked into being an IC years ago but was told that half of your income goes to taxes, is that true??? Is there anybody with real knowledge of a company that can live up to everything good said about then, and prove the bad isn't so???

I don't think there is such a thing as a recession proof job... sm [2008-10-12]
but I sure can tell you this...I have been doing transcription for 13 years. I have done it in house and at home, at home since 1998. I have worked for so many companies I can't even remember most of them from Lanier to Medquist to Spheris to Cardioscribes to Transform. I could go on and on. My three children are young but not so young anymore that I can't leave them alone for a while during the day now. My oldest is in high school now and all I can say is that I have had enough with this transcription bullcrap business. When I tell people what these transcription companies have done to me, their eyes bug out of their heads. I had gone to work for Cardioscribes leaving a very good paying job only to have them tell me that they weren't going to pay me because, as a salaried account manager, they felt I didn't work enough the two weeks before. They decided to pay me for only five days of the pay period instead of 12, took their sweet time sending the check, and then fired me. Now I have a really pretty $400 phone bill from conference calls that I get to pay with no paycheck. I had one company tell me after working 90 hours in a 2-week period and after sending in my timesheet, Gee, quite frankly, we really just can't afford to pay you this kind of paycheck for QA so we are going to change your pay from hourly to a cents per line salary retroactive for the last two weeks. They took my paycheck from $1350 to $500 then fired me two days after I received my almost $800 short paycheck. MDI you ask??? I currently just got hired by them. My training was to start on Oct. 7 and you know what... they don't even have enough work on the account to get me through my DQA training, which lasts for two weeks where you can only type 20 minutes per day, and the liason went out of town so I was told not to bother to type until Monday!!!! However, when they hired me, they expected me to commit to so many lines per day and I had to commit to working at least 3 holidays and one day on the weekend, and this is all as an IC!!! The other company that I was just hired for took three weeks to get me hired and now has sent out 3, either broken or the wrong foot pedals. I have spent these years as an MT hanging around all day waiting for work (sometimes for weeks and months) and some, if not most days, getting no work at all. I worked for Focus Infomatics as a SWAT QA and watched them fire 50 people in a weeks time for absolutely no reason at all and most of those people were just hired within a week who left good jobs to go work for them. I had one company tell me on a constant day-to-day basis that there just wasn't any work available. This went on for three months until they finally decided to put their work into a pool. When I got access to viewing the pool, you should have seen the work available but I sat for three months with no work at all and no paycheck either. I complained to the payroll person about the lack of work and she said she didn't understand because she was processing some really great paychecks and as far as she was concerned, nothing had changed within the company so she couldn't understand why I had no work. I was an IC for that company and everyone else was an employee. The owners knew everyone because they worked with everyone while in-house at a big hospital before the MT manager decided to open up his own MT company. All of the MTs at the hospital decided to go with him so he gave all the work went to them, although I was told by them that my work was excellent. They are now being investigated for cheating the MTs on their line counts, I believe. I have had QA people send screaming e-mails regarding work that I did telling me that the dictator was a truly horrible dictator but that I did a horrible job and that they don't get paid to fill in the words or phrases that I couldn't get. Last year, a month before Christmas, I got axed by CBay as a QA as they eventually ax everybody they hire. I couldn't even buy Christmas gifts, not even one. We had to purchase one gift for each one of our children and we had to put those three gifts on a credit card. I am now extremely overweight, smoke like a chimney because of massive financial stress and the stress of having no life, have absolutely no friends and absolutely ZERO social life, and I am virtually financially ruined (credit score is less than 500). I have had it with this field. It was ok to do this when my children were very young as I had no choice because I couldn't afford daycare for three kids. My husband works very hard but there is no way we could afford $400 a week for childcare back then. The key words here are I had no choice. I do now though I am getting the hell out of this crap before anyone else has the chance to screw me over. It seems to me that the ones who are making more and more money only make it because they are putting in more hours...not because their cents per line has increased. I have read on these boards that MTing is the only job where the salary goes down after years of experience instead of increasing and that is the absolute honest truth AND THAT IS JUST WRONG!!! I have interviews set up, one with a job just about a mile down the street from where I live, and I just can't wait! I can't wait to have a normal paycheck every single week. I can't wait to not be screwed over anymore! I can't wait to make friends again! I can't wait to be out of my house every day and be social every day with human beings and be glad to come home at the end of the day! Maybe this year I can even buy my kids some Christmas gifts. Every person who asks me about MTing I tell them, don't you dare go near MT work. It will ruin your life. As far as your questino about a recession proof job, there really is no job that is recession proof, but after reading my post and hopefully realizing that this can happen to you too as it does so many of us MTing, do you think that a recession is what you really need to be worrying about? YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE DECISION YOU MADE TO GET INTO THIS FIELD!

Amen to that -- I worked for Spheris for 9 years and never got a raise. Finally I went to Meridian, where it's wonderful!
