Transcend [2008-11-18]
I'm relatively new to Transcend (within a year) and have to say that everything I have encountered has been great. Whenever I have run out of work, my TL/ROM gets me more right away with very little wait time. I love it and couldn't ask for any better company to work for. For those who have had a bad experience, I suggest giving it another try.
I think that is great. Very wise choice. [2008-11-14]
xx
I have been working for Transcend for about 3 months. [2008-11-13]
They paid me an hourly rate for the training phone call, then straight production. I was only allowed to do 5 reports a day. I stayed on QA for about 2 weeks. Some of the posters on this board claim that they did not have to wait that long.
They do pay on time. I do run out of work quite a bit during my shift, however, on weekends it picks up quite a bit.
Great... [2008-11-12]
I would love to pick your brain. I think I might have been hired for the same acct, and I used to work for MQ until about 7 or 8 months ago, too.... would you email me?
Wow, it doesn't sound so great . . . LOL [2008-11-12]
I appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions, but I am very curious about the down time pay. I don't really want to work for them, I want down time pay. Unfortunately, due to a bad arm I had to give up about two-thirds of the work I had a year or so ago, and I have revamped my setup to reduce my pain so that I could keep working. Don't get me wrong, I do not mind working and would do any work that is available during the time I was required to be on, but mostly I wanted to know how much the pay is when you're not working but required to be on and, something I did not ask before, how they figure the time worked versus the time waiting for work. I assume the system keeps track of how long the transcribing takes you and when you are not working??? I know you said that it varies and you don't think they are hiring just so that they can pay down time, but I am still curious.
Thanks again!
Thats great. I was hoping for good things [2008-11-07]
Which accounts are you working? Do you like them? Are you making alot of money? Does Hils pay on time, every time?
Thanks
Has anyone ever considered that not everyone is cut out to be a great MT? Not everyone sm [2008-11-06]
can do every job. I personally would not be a good teacher, because my patience and dedication are not in that field. Unfortunately, I realized that 3 years into a teaching career.
To make money in this field, you need to be fast, accurate and focused. You need to be able to sit down, work for 8 hours and produce a certain # of lines or reports. Not everyone can do that, but it is not a bash on those who cannot.
Just because someone has been doing something for a long time does not mean that it is the perfect choice for them. There are options out there that might be better for you.
Doing something for a long time, no matter how hard you practice, does not always make you good at doing that. If that were the case, everyone that takes piano lessons can be a professional musician or every girl who takes ballet for many years can be a prima ballerina. Unfortunately, not everyone can be good at everything.
Trust me in this: If you look in your heart and find what you want to do and are good at, you will be a happier person and work will no longer be painful, whether that be as an MT, a teacher, a musician, a SAHM, or a circus performer. You have to find what works for YOU and being miserable every day suggests that it might be time to make changes.
Life is too short to be so unhappy. Talk to your husband and figure out something that can work for everyone. I am sure he does not want you unhappy all the time.
GREAT POST!! MY REQUEST.. [2008-10-31]
I wish that you would share your post directly with MTSOs who may not see it here, by anonymous email or some other method. Actually, I just might send the link to the HR manager of some of these MTSOs, if that's okay.
Recently, my Indian manager was replaced by a female USA manager, who has some of these traits/habits, the worst of which is that we have received emails that indicate her inclination to always assume that 100%of the clients concerns are the fault and responsibility of the MTs, that MTs should be able to read minds, etc., etc. Her communication style is very condescending. If you email a question, you don't expect an answer unless she decides that it is important. You know the type. I can't wait to find out how it all works out in the months to come.
Great idea [2008-10-31]
What an awesome idea. Hope we can achieve this.
great suggestions but........ [2008-10-31]
I hate to say it, but I have come to the conclusion that the companies/managers/supervisors do not care. We are just a number for them. Most of them are liars, cowardly...........just flat do not care.
If they were so great - why did you leave? [2008-10-29]
FN stinks!! Glad I'm outta there.
Transcend does not pay for anything. Cheap, cheap, [2008-10-28]
and nasty. This editing stuff is horrible and it might guarantee a job in the future, but you will be better off on welfare than trying to spend the time fixing the stuff that it spits out. The program does not work half the time and never has worked right but they will never fix it so it does work, so don't even bring the subject up. If you work there just keep your mouth shut or you will be in the dog house the rest of your career. You might make mistakes in typing or editing, but you cannot even see what you typed before you send it in, but you are responsible for it (you type in the blind). Of course you can pull up the AI sheet and print it and keep it at your desktop, but who needs to thumb through 56 pages of instructions to find how to do 1 simple thing.
This place is really the bottom of the barrel and QA is horrible. Training is even worse.
Transcend, do not even bother to respond to me. I am quitting anyway, but you really need to let everyone know that your rah, rah, rah team stuff is just talk and nothing is ever done to make the job easier.
Sounds great [2008-10-28]
Thanks for the info :-)
Two great places [2008-10-27]
Transcend and Diskriter. Awesome places to work; no drama, no BS, no broken promises.
Transcend [2008-10-26]
Does anyone know what Transcendpay's for MTs with a lot of experience?
Thanks!
Thank you that is great [2008-10-24]
Thanks you for the help and support, We all really need all the help we can get, I filed out forms and sent them out today.
Transcend [2008-10-22]
What choice do we have --- Spheris? Medquest? They are all the same, is there one out there where you just type other than going across the water - I know they type there, lol They should just pay a litttle better for VR and we would all be happy I believe. I had to give up working at home and go back into the dreaded traffic, getting up, getting dressed scene again - YUCK!! If anyone knows of a good place to work just SHOUT it out - get me out of the interstate for an hours a day - please!!!
TRANSCEND [2008-10-22]
Same story. I had 99% ESL docs, and finally gave it up. Could not keep at 98% accuracy, and even the QA people said you could not understand some of them. I was very stressed over the whole thing, am a lot older than most MTs, so quit. Now looking for part-time, less stress situation.
Agree - Everyone I have had contact with is great (sm) [2008-10-22]
very friendly and informative. However, I don't need to know everything they are doing, just that they provide me work, pay me and then an added bonus, I get benefits. My name is not on the company letterhead, I/we are simply parts of the whole process.
I ran out of work a couple of times, and a couple of times I have been unable to work due to construction issues going on at my home. Not their fault and they certainly didn't chastise me over it.
I am more than glad to bend and flex with the company just as they seem to do with us.
I hope they don't allow people to speak out at the meeting today. A few disgruntled ones will monopolize all the time and won't allow the company designated speakers to keep us apprised of any upcoming news or changes they might want to share.
Like I said, I am relatively new, but so far very very happy and would suggest to those who are so very disgruntled that they go out and there try MQ or some of these other companies on for size. It will certainly make you appreciate what you have.
Transcend [2008-10-21]
I've worked for Transcend for almost 4 years (started at MDI) and things are going from bad to worse. Didn't want to edit so had to be taken off their own system, went on another acct on system I knew but Expander wouldn't work, put on another acct on the same system only they forgot to tell me that it was 99% ESLs. Sorry I'm not going from about 40% ESL (and good ones at that) to 99% ESLs for the same amount of money. That's just ridiculous to expect that. Luckily for me I never put all my eggs in one basket. I will miss the 401k though.
Transcend [2008-10-17]
In response to the hours of training on the phone - that is nothing to worry about. They are really nice and it gives you time to get used to the platform. It goes by fast and then you do 5 reports a day and then you are sprung to your account. They are the best with their beginning training of anyone in the business. I think everyone would agree on that. It is after you get an account and then see how lucky you are, lol
great post....i think some here get frustrated [2008-10-17]
with what is out there and being offered to MTs that sometimes it is forgotten that there are really good jobs out there.
Good luck finding your MT for this account. Ophthalmology can be a high-paying field for the right docs.
This is a great job! [2008-10-17]
I currently work for A+ Transcription. The job is great, the pay is on time, and the owner isan absolute dreamto work with! I do not understand what the problem is!!I cannot believe you are complaining about 7 cents a linethat is for the training period. If you are any good, you will not be in training for very long!! I much prefer working for a small company where there is communication and someone cares. You get lost in the large companies!! I have started on a couple of the NEW clinics, andYES, thereare newclinics. That should tell you something about the owner! When you are no longer in training, the pay does average to about 11 cents a line. If you are truly looking for a fantastic place to work - THIS IS THE PLACE!
Thanks for all your responses! I am [2008-11-20]
going to go for it. I had to decide between them and a great offer with Transcend, but I like the idea of flexibility better than shift work. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing your information LTMT! [2008-11-20]
Wow, you have been through a lot and I admire your ability to bounce back. I just know whatever company you choose to work with you will do well, and good luck on your move! Thanks too for the feedback on all the companies. I thought that E-Trans was very nice too, but decided in my heart I did not want shift work, and since it did not work out the first time (the ExText account), I would just pass. I am going to keep Encompass in mind for the future because they seem great like you said, and I have the quality but have been in this for so many years, don't want to be stressed out. Like you, I get insecure, and that is when I do worst. LOL.
I wish you all the best. For me, I am now going with MDI-MD and know that if I maintain my quality and my flexibility I can stay away from shift work. I think we all need to put priorities and what we need to do in life and then hang onto our decision. Rough seas, but if you hang on to the life boat the storm always passes and we always seem to make it.
Thanks for writing and all the best to you! :)
Me too. Also, job security to the MTs [2008-11-20]
My son's pediatrician and my own doctor have English as their second language and I would bet my life and my son's life on both of them. They are wonderful people. Both of them said they would love for me to tanscribe for them, too, if they did not have their own service. I guess we all get to do in life what we are destined to do. I do see these so-called ESLs as people who provide great care and honestly I have transcribed for so long, I don't even blink at who is dictating. It is the dictator in any language who disrepects the medical record by misspeaking terminology or just plain disrespects the Transcriptionist in that they think we read their minds that I think less of, in which case I leave a blank. They can fill it in, and read their own mind. LOL.
No bad stuff here [2008-11-20]
I really don't have anything bad to say about Transcend. they have been a great company for me, very flexible. In fact, any other company would probably not be as flexible as they have been. If you are struggling, they will work with you. They may outsource some work, but they are definitely not India. They are based out of Georgia. All of the team leads and managers are right here in the United States. IMO, one of the best and fairest transcription companies around.
Working for Phoenix MedCom [2008-11-20]
Could current or past Phoenix MedCom people please share their experience working for this company. Pros and cons or just anything you either liked or disliked would be great. By the way, how the heck do you play the voice files for their testing? Express Scribe won't play them...imagine that! Thanks for your help.
sound quality with lanier? [2008-11-20]
I've only done internet accounts with mdi but have been told by a couple of other MDI-MTs that their experience with Lanier accounts wasn't so great, mostly because their sound quality was very poor with the machines, some of which are rather old. Do you ever have that problem?
I wish you luck. Do you have another MT job yet? [2008-11-19]
What other companies are or were you considering to move to from Transcend. Just wondering because I am a long-time MT and don't want to leave my job because of the economy yet, not making enough to pay the bills either.
Ex-Transcender [2008-11-19]
I tried really hard on an account with Transcend that had 90+ plus ESL docs, and could not continually meeting the 98% error-free goal, or really make any money. I have been working many, many years in all phases of medical transcription, and this was the hardest account I had ever worked on. I liked the people, and the training was good, but just could not live up to their expectations with that account. At my age, I got frustrated and quit.
Hey LTMT: Was wondering if you still recommend [2008-11-19]
I am thinking of applying at Encompass and wondered if you were still there and if you like it. I am running out of work where I am. I originally was hired at E-Trans plus, and you and I wrote to each other on this board, but the account did not start on time and I had to stay put at my original job. Thanks for any comments about Encompass or any other good job lead. You seem to do great research!
Flooding of resumes on job posts [2008-11-19]
Sent a couple of resumes recently and getting an automatic answer from several companies that due to the influx of so many resumes, it will be impossible to even see them all. If I have more than 3 years' experience it will be kept in the file for 6 months until they get to it.
The most recent automatic answer I got was from a company which did not even put an ad out. It was one where I found great posts on another board after doing a lot of archive searching.
Is this because of recent MQ paycuts and problems, and because C-bay bought it out. Perhaps the time has come for the work pool to be flooded with more competition if the giant of MQ is finally seeing a walk-out. Also, the other biggies like Spheris and Transcend seem to be losing a lot of people.
Anybody have any idea on this? Not only do we have the influx of new graduates, and now the really experienced hospital MTs who have been with MQ for so long, but we also have India too... are the odds growing less that our resumes will even be seen, I wonder...
I just hope that all the MQ people and everyone here in the US finds a good home and soon. We all deserve a good job and I just wonder how we will get through this time. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, or just a good we are all in this together post would be appreciated.
MDI [2008-11-19]
Best place I ever worked. Honest, decent people. The company does not offshore. Kind and intelligent QA, great tech support, liaisons are kind and supportive. You set your own schedule. I am totally happy there.
specific answers .. [2008-11-19]
hi ..
1. Does the ShortHand Expander work on DocQScribe?
not sure .. pretty sure it does.
2. How easy is the platform to learn?
very ... just use keyboard commands instead of mouse
3. How easy is the platform to navigate around when you are in a report -- and are there a lot of steps to saving, sending, etc?
I find it easy and there are not a lot of steps ..
4. Can you look up prior patient reports?
no
5. Can you make your own templates?
You have to put them in the expander and it depends on company policy; they do not want cut and paste as it can affect formatting on client end
6. How is the spellchecker?
okay
7. Can a fast typist make good line counts?
yes .. friend does over 300
8. Is the line count mechanism accurate?
mine has been when I checked it
From my experience, it is a great system.
I too lost production but I started using it but that has been true for me with any windows-based program I have worked on ..
give me back my DOS and WP .. .that is when I used to make good money .. LOL
good luck to you .. you will be fine
PS - However, The speech recognition of MQ (ASR) is terrible unless you have really great dictators.
Hey, nice to hear from you again. I would say Encompass is a very good sm [2008-11-19]
place to work. I wasn't working there full-time, but from what I saw, they have a nice benefit package, and the staff is very helpful and professional. The only kinda scary part is that they require 99.5% accuracy (or maybe 99, cannot remember). Fortunately, on my first QA thing before being released from QA, I did manage to achieve that (a little more actually), so I was relieved. I guess I just do not have enough confidence in myself. Unfortunately, they lost the account I was hired for, but they were looking for another one. In the meantime, though, my personal life kind of took a different turn, and I ended up moving from Kansas to Colorado, so I decided one job was enough for now.
As for eTransPlus, they are also very friendly, although much more disorganized than some companies. I was put off for a week and a half past the date I was hired to start, then when I did start, there were tech problems, then I did4 jobs or so and ran out of work ... that kind of thing. Again, when I decided to move, I just decided it was not worth the extra aggravation. Still, I would recommend either company.
There are still some good companies out there, although I hesitate to comment since my experience is not recent. I used to work for MDI-MD, and they paid VERY well at the time because you had to supply your own LD, and that was before the days of unlimited LD. I had 5 accounts, so managed to keep myself busy, but now I read posts about people running out of work, so I do not really know.
I have heard good things about Axolotl, and I applied, but the only opening is 3rd shift with 80% ESLs, so I decided not to do it. Their benefits are great, though - no deductible for BC/BS! And there is a $500 sign-on bonus too. Oh well ...
I talked to Acusis, and if you can overlook their heavy overseas connection, they have a nice benefit package as well. The pay is so-so. I guess no one ever pays me what I know I am worth.
If you run into a company you are interested in, feel free to ask me. I have been an MT for about 100 years now, so I might have worked for them!
Good luck -- hope you find something wonderful.
We are definitely in hard times...sm [2008-11-19]
And there are so many people being laid off and with no job period. Think of all the autoworkers as you said who you know have got to be getting laid off because the auto companies themselves are going under. I am thankful for the little job I have with the little bit of money I make. It isn't a lot but, my God, without it things would be a lot worse. My paycheck is a blessing. I wish it was more most of the time but I am thankful for it. I would never quit this job without knowing what I was getting into somewhere else.
I work at Alphamed. I have made posts on here before I am sure everyone knows that complain about the lack of work. I need more work but can't find anywhere hiring besides Focus that doesn't require 2+ years. I am so hesitant to leave Alphamed cause I work for the best people you could ever ask for. They NEVER bother me. They are so accomodating. If I need off it is no problem. I was given a raise last January without even asking after only 5 months with the company. I got a Thanksgiving bonus of $30 last year after only being there 3 months. That isn't a lot but who else gives Thanksgiving bonuses? I got a check for $50 for X-mas. So even though I am not happy with the low work they are a great company.
MDI-MD [2008-11-19]
I've been there just a few short months, but I accepted the position with MDI over several other offers because, quite frankly, I could sense from my communications with my recruiter (Carlotta) that this is the type of company that values and respects their employees.
I'm delighted to report my instincts were correct.
Great training, simple platform, great communication, ensure you have all the work you desire, and ALWAYS friendly yet professional.
As for those emails about being backed up on days off...well, I might be the forum weirdo, but I appreciate those emails. I look on them as an invitation to dive in and pick up some extra money if I wish to do so.
IMO, if you're looking to be valued, respected, and paid decently (and reliably), MDI-MD is the best gig in town.
Transcend [2008-11-18]
I'm relatively new to Transcend (within a year) and have to say that everything I have encountered has been great. I just started with OSI a month ago. [2008-11-18]
So far they've been great. Everybody is really nice. Plenty of work. Decent account, some ESL's, but not any worse than normal. I have 20 years experience and was a CMT (until I decided it wasn't worth it). I would say give them a try. I don't know what you've read in the archieves, but when I was looking, they seemed to be one of the ones with fewer negative comments than some of the others. Good luck.
No doubt about it - It has to be ... [2008-11-18]
a recruiter.I work for Transcend, when there is work. Third day in a row and there is no work. And talking to someone about it - that's a joke, and a bad one at that.
Anyone thinking that first message is legit, keep on looking. They will tell you there is plenty of work, great accounts, great benefits but the truth is there is no work, you may initially have a decent account but plan on them changing you over to another account that is not so great and as far as benefits, there is a good chance you won't meet the minimum requirements because there is no work to be done.
focus [2008-11-18]
is known for outsourcing a great deal of work.
Nevermind [2008-11-17]
I posted before looking up this company in the archives. Silly me! However, if there's anyone out there who is having great current experiences with her, please let me know. TIA.
So far, so good. [2008-11-17]
Started with them 2 weeks ago with Escription account IC and love it. Pay is above average, shift doable and really nice and responsivepeople. Lots of work. Great move considering last employer.
The reality [2008-11-17]
Is that we have transcriptionists of this ilk to thank for salaries being downgraded. When clients realize that so many people are willing to GIVE error-filled reports (often because someone failed to open a book or look up something) they began to ask why am I paying a premium for this? And we saw salaries begin to follow the influx of poorly-trained, poorly-performing MT population.
There are GREAT MTs out there. Unfortunately they are more often than not the exception rather than the rule.
LTMT [2008-11-17]
It sounds like you have a great fit for yourself. I have never worked for Keystrokes or had any dealings with them. I think that the key (no pun intended) is your sentence I AM VERY HAPPY THERE. If you have found happiness, you have found what most people are looking for. I feel the same way about MDI--I have found my ideal match. A friend of mine, a very shy person by nature, purposefully chose Spheris because she wanted a big company where she could be one of the many. That would drive me crazy, but it suited her just fine. I think the key (again that word!) to all of this is that there are different needs for each person and we all need to respect each other's choices. I am glad that you found such a good place for yourself and wish that every other MT is as happy as you and I are at the end of the day. Take care.

I interviewed a few months ago and was told: [2008-11-16]
First off, the recruiter/interviewer was so darned nice, incredibly down to earth, and an absolute pleasure to talk to. Aftertalking with them, I was really bummed I wouldn't be working for them because this interviewer person was just so real and someone I would love to know outside of work, ya know? It wasn't just all robot-business speak, which is refreshing like you wouldn't believe.
Anyway, Iwas asked what I was looking for and said I needed to make a guaranteed minimum of7000 linesper pay week, as I was sole suport for my household, and that I loved where I was now but was only looking to change employers because I needed benefits.
Inan incredibly kind gesture of goodwill towards a fellow workhorse, I wastold it would most likely never happen (the volume of work availableto consistently earna high line count), as this field has slow periods, as you must know, and a steady amount of work can never be guaranteed and that, for your situation, youwould be best off with your current employer with no benefits anda plentiful work supply. The mention of 30% VR and increasing day-by-day was also a huge put-off for me because, well, I hate that crap...and don't let anyone fool you, for the money you earn, it is most indeed crap and the joke is on the MT.
This place has a great pay rate, great benefits, but unfortunately the work flow cannot be guaranteed. Scary prospect indeed when one can't work just for fun money for shoes and crap. I couldn't believe the honestly and I was so appreciative of that.
