that's a strange and kind of awful thing to say. [2008-10-02]

i'm kind of surprised... [2008-09-26]
...thoughi know i shouldn't be, that we haven't gotten an e-mail about the system going down yesterday. someone up above said it was down 2 hours i think, but i don't think it was down that long, maybe 45 minutes to an hour? whatever, i've heard nothing from my supervisor or from Medquist about any of it, and i'm simply going to ignore that my time is short an hour and half until they say something. i'm sick of us having to do the work to find out information. and while i'm on this rant, i'm really sick of this being the way it is everywhere these days. i had someone from an employment agency contact me about a job i had applied for (didn't realize i was going through an agency)...and she got me all excited, then never called back, then i called her and after more than a month finally got an interview with the agency, which was the first step to getting this job, and she was to call me back about having the interview with the actual place, and i never heard from her, finally i called, left a message, e-mailed, got a lame response, she said she'd get back to me, never did, and finally i'm done. and this is just the way businesses are run these days and it sucks. i think the #1 thing that can make a job tolerable is communication communication communication. i think that is last on the list for medquist.

our incentive bonus?? boo-hoo. [2008-09-25]
x

Hey, but the bonus is still running through today. Wheeeee!! [2008-09-22]
And guess what, I just hit my bonus lines. Unfortunately there is now no work. I can only sit here and laugh.

Whine? Knew system would be down, but during bonus weekend? Just shocked.nm [2008-09-21]
x

Here's what really sucks about this stupid bonus: [2008-09-21]
For those of us who normally work weekends, now that there is a bonus everyone is working and now 2 hours before my shift is supposed ot end, I get the NO WORK message. It's Saturday so now I am 2 hours short this week, so chances are I will get that warning email about not having enough hours. Makes me so f'g mad.I am so sick of their damn bonuses. They know exactly what they are doing, though.

Why bonus weekend? So we have no jobs later? [2008-09-21]
x

are they having a bonus weekend, because there is some big holiday over in india? [2008-09-21]

Getting hosed by the bonus [2008-09-20]
It's 8:15 EDT and I'm already dropping into the cesspool. Thanks a lot!

Are you kidding? I forgot about the system being down during bonus weekend. nm [2008-09-20]

new bonus starting today [2008-09-19]
Check your email. 3 cpl over your target. Today through Monday. IN ADDITION to monthly incentive. Some of you can make some extra $$ if you are eligible for OT, etc, but for me the target is over 5000 so you all are welcome to it!

Bonus [2008-09-19]
You are too funny. However, it is the Q that is extremely funny. It will be mostly ESL and ASR as usual. I can see giving up the entire weekend to try to make $100. Give me the bonuses of the old days. If this was a real bonus without all of the if's, and's, or but's, maybe, just maybe we dumb typists might go for it.

Bonus [2008-09-19]
They should have it as anyone willing to do some transcription this weekend will receive an extra 0.03 per line, but no. I know I am hurrying out right now to get extra coffee and cigs so I can sit here like a dummy and give all and get nothing.

Bonus? Haha! All this bonus means is that [2008-09-19]
everyone (at least the ones who don't realize how lame it is yet) will be working extra, which means everyone will end up in the cesspool. In the cesspool, most will not be able to get up over that minimum number of lines you have to do before you even BEGIN to qualify for that extra 3 cents. If in the time frame where they came up with your average lines you were doing your best already, it's going to be very difficult to get up over that. I wish they'd quit with these so-called bonuses.

Bonus [2008-09-19]
No, we are just typists remember? We have no skills.

bonus [2008-09-19]
U must be new. Go ahead, give up your weekend, see if that $20 you make really makes a difference.

Bonus smonus [2008-09-19]
I am going camping, beautiful and I will probably not get my vacation. Like said below, work to live, don't live to work. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Bye

that's why i spend minimal time doing this kind of stuff [2008-09-15]
i only check QASAR if i am in a report and think, oh, let me see if i have had this guy before, but of course those things are only good for 30 days, so i usually can't find one anyway. & if they think i'm going to look through them on my own time, they can just forget that.

Of course, because MQ is getting less money, [2008-09-12]

bonus [2008-09-10]
Did anyone get their bonus today from last month?

Bonus [2008-09-10]
Yes.

I make more money with ASR... [2008-09-03]
I don't understand how it is taking you longer to edit than to type. I am at 7-3/4 cents for MT and 5.43 cents for ME. I am able to push out a lot more work and not feel my hands go numb at the end of the day.

and furthermore do the doctors who make gobs of money [2008-09-02]
try to improve dictation on their end? i seriously doubt it from the cr@p i've heard

me too [2008-10-10]
I don't have any Worker's Comp issues with MedQuist, but I too have been waiting over 8 weeks for my COBRA information. I have contacted them multiple times to no avail. I also have been waiting this amount of time for shipping labels to return their equipment. These too were promised. I refuse to spend my own money to send back the equipment. On a side note, I did work for Medquist for 17 years, put in a two week notice which I worked until the last second of my shift, and never received any kind of acknowledgement that I had resigned. Oh, I take that back, one call from supervisor left on my answering machine to call her, which I did, only to get her answering machine. No exit interview, no thanks for your service, just pretty much don't let the door hit you on the way out. There is life after the Q and it is SO much better! I actually love my job again. Good luck getting what you deserve.

They never picked on me [2008-10-10]
In fact for several years after they took over, when they still had regional offices, I used to work only 6-1/2 hours a day. I did 1200 lines a day and hung up. My supervisor at the time didn't care. Granted, I was cranking it during those 6-1/2 hours, more or less. Back then we sent in our time cards by mail or filled them out in advance, it was loose. Okay, so when they got rid of the regional offices and had the online time clock, yes I had to sit there during working hours. Actually I went through a period where I decided (before ASR) to really make money and worked liked a banshee for about a year, paying off bills, taking a vacation to Europe, really surprising myself with how much I could do. Then came ASR, and I found myself surfing the web all day between reports. I was just too p.o.'d to get into it anymore. I couldn't make money like before, and I couldn't do the minimum and hang up. And then when they started saying their computer could only be used for work, I really got irritated and I quit. Now I work somewhere with no ASR, no time clock and I'm back to really working again. If you let Medquist make your life miserable, you'll be miserable. Medquist is a terribly flawed company without any prospects if they don't manage to get their slave shop working in India. I recommend you quit. You'll be doing yourself and the craft of transcription a favor.

You Quit 17 years ago. [2008-10-10]
DO you feel they owe you money. Please send me an e-mail at hopecruz71@yahoo.com. Would be nice to talk to you.

production work [2008-10-09]
I hope I don't get pounced on here, and I am truly just another MT at the Q, but when you talk about working a production job, you are talking about the standards under which you are paid as a contrast to a job where you work a certain number of hours and what is produced is not or cannot be measured. This does not mean that it does not matter when you work. At the other end of our job is the client with the need for the product and the ability to choose a contractor that suits their needs. In this business TAT is King with accuracy Queen. Imagine yourself as an independent contractor to a hospital and here is your proposal: My staff are flex staff, so I won't know when they are actually going to work. When they do work, they may start late or leave early because of other commitments. In order to meet your TAT and keep your business, we will offer incentives during your heavy use times, which my employees with then complain affect their ability to meet production after the incentive is over. It does not really matter that YOUR needs change - it only matters that my employees get exactly the kind of work when they want it, and that they can choose to do the work (or not do the work) when they please. I cannot imagine why more hospitals are not beating down my door with a proposal like that. Integrity: Doing what is right even when no one is looking. It also goes a long way towards job security.

RADIOLOGY GUYS AND GALS [2008-10-09]
Have you noticed a difference in the work you are getting. My primary is a huge account famous for never running out of work. However, for the last week I only get my primary in the afternoon. I'm getting hospitals way down on the list and they stink--no way to make money. I'm wondering if the work is being shipped you know where. Any thoughts

Are you.... [2008-10-09]
helping out with another account that needs help? PS's often change pools in order to help out other regions WITHOUT telling the MT or is your line count high? If your line count is high, then this is why you are being changed to unfamiliar accounts in order to prevent you from making TOO much money. MQ policy, my personal opinion, of course.

Are you [2008-10-09]
In my case, it would be job count, since radiology gets paid by the job. Yes, my job counts have been high (thats, of course, when there is work); and, I have always said soon as you start making money MQ starts making changes. Being paranoid where this company is concerned, I was wondering if its across the board or only me.

I was afraid of that too, [2008-10-08]
when my new computer arrived, I was afraid that I would have to start all over from scratch. When I logged onto DQS for the first time, my Expander came up without any problems, which was kind of freaky! I'm not sure if tech puts it in when they make up the computer, or if when you log onto DQS with your password all of your files automatically load onto any computer? All I know is that I am thankful it carried over!

Is anybody else getting nit picked by supervisor? sm [2008-10-08]
First it was I was not doing my 2000 lines in a week. I have been ill which they did not care about in the first place and then getting back to work I got tired, am doing fine that way now but then it was not sending my emails in the correct format for e-time audits and not having my signature line on my email and now because I clocked in late due to a hang up with an appt with my mom with an eye appt and could not call her and not working the full 2 hours I was supposed to even though I will get the 2000 lines done this week. The list goes on and on. I think they want me to quit because even though I don't make a lot of money my cents per line is up there, although not enough, but still, they could replace me with a full-time person for less money. I just think they want me to quit--- or am I just notworking like I should for MQ?

ASR supposed to reduce hand/wrist strain? Oh really? [2008-10-08]
In my experience (been doing ASR for years) it just creates a new kind of strain -- anyone else deal with this? --- my left pinky (the one that is constantly hitting the control button, and, of course, the weakest finger) -- has recently acquired this tingly sensation. Then it spread to my ring and middle on the left and starting to feel it up my wrist. No pain yet. I just hope it doesn't get to that. It's just annoying now. I wish the control button could be used by a stronger finger, say, middle finger or even pointer. I try to use my middle finger to reach over and use the control button, but this just doesn't flow right...too slow...and I usually forget anyway. SIgh..............

Monday mornings at MQ [2008-10-07]
Our PS is off this week. Got the backlog report from our relatively new QKL with no backlog and she says - Way to Go Team! So they hired another one who doesn't have a clue that when there is no work in our primary some of us have no work and the others get thrown into the cesspool and don't make any money. Why is this concept so hard for them to understand? Way to Go Team - you are now bankrupt!

It is in the toilet [2008-10-07]
I made a decision yesterday, to change my distributions. I have always put in 10% of what I earn, but yesterday I put in 0%. No since in putting in money to have it not worth anything the next day. One way to fix that problem.

Anyone else assigned to a new [2008-10-07]
Apparently my client left MQ so now they are shifting things? I have had 4 different accounts and now 2 supervisors in 9 months. Not sure why I can't go back to 1 of the other 3 clients that I know well. The past month I have had NO consistent work of any kind. Is this standard practice? I feel like I am punished every timeI learn a client well enough toearn a decent paycheck.

PS [2008-10-07]
Not yet. I know they are trying to compress things instead of the constant supply of cesspool. I wouldn't doubt it as we seem to change PS's often. Most of the work seems to be ASR. Where has the transcription gone...need I ask? Oh, they don't want us staying on accounts to learn them well. After all, if we did that, we would make better money.

Someone else posted that they got [2008-10-07]
a verbal warning for working when not signed in. MQ doesn't like it either way. Working off the clock boosts your bonus eligibility as well as your benefit rate. Not working on the clock earns PTO that you technically didn't earn. If you have E-time discrepancies, have your PS fix it.

The BOS-2 changes things on a whim [2008-10-07]
They use the asinine reasoning that using the numeral 2 as opposed to spelling it out as two makes it clearer. A bunch of crap if you ask me, since I think the sentence stating, After 7 years Coumadin was changed 2 weeks ago to 5 mg is more liable to cause confusion than After seven years, the patient's Coumadin was changed two weeks ago to 5 mg. (A poor sentence, but you get what I mean.) But, hey, what do we know. I believe the real reason is to keep us from earning a few extra keystrokes.

I think you hit it on the head! - sm [2008-10-07]
For years we were also told to use x only when typing something such as 3 cm x 2 cm, but now we are supposed to use it to replace the word times as well. I cringe when I type something that looks like this: Prednisone 20 mg 2x dailyx4 days, 10 mg 3x daily x2 days, 5 mg 2x daily x2 days, etc. It looks more like an algebra problem than a sentence, neither of which makes a bit of sense in the real world!Forget creating a document that is coherent, just save those Keystrokes and the pittance that goes along with them.

I wonder if this happened...... [2008-10-06]
QA wanted to fill in *hypo* but it expanded to hypothyroid accidentally? I'm not sure if their Expander words while in the document, but I would think so. I try not to let this kind of thing bug me. I figure for every mistake I find from QA, I've made at least one they have to correct. If everyone would just remember that every change QA makes is obvious that it was made, maybe everyone could relax. The ONLY time I'd even bat an eye was if the correction affected patient safety (never had this instance).

I feel for you, girlfriend . . . [2008-10-06]
Everybody ends up suffering on these stupid incentive weekends. What's the point of hiring PT workers for weekends if they have no work to do because ofthese senseless incentives. And now, as a result, we are all out of work on Monday morning!! Is is just me, or does this sound like some kind of ploy to keep our paychecks down -- after all, if we can't reach our ridiculous incentive requirement by Monday (coincidentally when work runs out), we are screwed!!!

Lots of newbies, experienced are leaving [2008-10-06]
Medquist will always be able to hire newbies. Soon they'll be a giant company of newbie transcriptionists. Our pay was already low. The company cut the pay. They declared a big dividend. With our money. So now we're leaving and, as Dylan says: Something is happening and you don't know what it is, do you Medquist? Soon they will be a giant company filled with newbie transcriptionists, slowly typing with the help of an ASR that is inherently dangerous with its mistakes.

afraid to look [2008-10-06]
I've been around since the Jurrasic period, I was hoping to finally retire at sometime in the near future, but my retirement (as far as 401K) is probably worth about 20.00 bucks! My last statement was so bad with big time 5 digit losses, I'm afraid to look at the latest one. I'm not very good at the stock market and/or their numbers, I start to look over this kind of thing and my eyes glaze over after about 2 minutes. Does anyone know how to look up what stocks we are buying in our 401K, such as what companies we are buying stocks from, and most important how much stock they make us by from MQ? Thanks. Warning, not spell checked or proof read and I'm tired.

Okay, fist off, no you are ultimately responsible for what you [2008-10-05]
for their part, what was changed, and blanks and all. Second, QA does mean they have all the answers, IMO nobody does 100% of the time. Just like an MT does not obviously know it all or there would not need to be QA. I am not QA, but a very experienced MT who has helped out QA on occasion, and its not an easy job, so I will defend them. I think you need to just relax and not sweat the small stuff. It it was a MAJOR medical error, then I too would be upset, but capitalization, come on now - life is too short for your kind of reaction - again my opinion - not a QA person.

Oh Yes it was [2008-10-04]
You are right..it's been so long since I made that kind of money at MQ I had actually forgotten. And then extra $ for keeping an account in TAT and team captains got a little extra bonus! I spent many many late nights checking those stats and plugging in to do just one more report.

I remember when our local office would offer $40.00 [2008-10-04]
extra per day if you exceeded a certain amount, and I got more pages (paid that way then) than the requirement to begin with. One check made $400.00 just in bonus. NOW THOSE WERE THE DAYS. The bonuses were going on for a long time andwere offered frequently. It made you want to work harder because there was an actual obtainable significant reward for your efforts. Anybody have a time capsule? I'M GOIN BACK!
