All I can say after reading the replies to this thread is OMG! SM [2008-08-15]
These are the most ridiculous posts I have ever read. The intellect, unfortunately, has shown its true colors here. Move on people because your gripes will get you nowhere when you lack the skills needed to even exist, let alone succeed in this profession.
I hope you didn't take offense to my response to your [2008-08-14]
post below, as I didn't mean it that way.
It's just that not long ago kind of the same thing happened to me...for example, when I had an extremely difficult dictator (extra long report of course) and I'd get about 100 lines in the hour it would taken me to complete it. I thought, well, I'll just work an hour extra after I sign out to make up the difference so I wouldn't lose as much that day. I did this for a while, thinking nothing of it until I got a warning email.
I don't know why the other girl got fired when all I got was a warning, but I'd hate to see this happen to anyone else.
Are you actually reading my posts or just spouting off? [2008-08-11]
I said the errors are minor, 1 letter or tense changes (have/had, did/done) put in by ASR and neglected to be changed by me, 1 per long report with 99.99% accuracy.
You appear to be claiming that all MTs should be perfect or fired. Client is returning reports with 1 error that would be considered minor by any QASAR standards. Happens frequently, only started happening when I got this new QATL, never before then.
I have an excellent record as an MT and have had kudos from several people, including QA and PS.
Trying to gather facts to understand what I'm dealing with here. Not interested in your unknowledgeable opinion on my compentency as an MT, but rather on whether anyone has received reports back from QATL that do not contain major errors on a frequent basis.
I'm a little late reading what happened to you earlier in the week...sm [2008-08-09]
I had to scroll way down to find the thread. Just wanted to say I'm sorry that had to happen to you especially in this economy.
I don't agree with what you did but definitely see the reasoning behind it.
They probably did a random audit and just found out what was happening and because it was happening consistently felt the need to not even give you a warning.
Like other posters have said, there are other companies out there with great benes...just have to find the right fit for you...as they say when one door closes...another opens...
Good Luck!!
The only hope we have is IF the clients would [2008-08-04]
start checking their reports for quality. That is the KEY to solving this Indian mess. That, and trying to persuade US QA to stop QAing Indian messes. I have QA'd Indian work personally for years. It is horrible quality, especially the first few levels. It takes them about 4 to people to make 1 semi-quality document. Even when I would get the documents after 3 levels of MTs and 2 levels of Indian QA, the work was still often atrocious. They just don't have the language thing down, no matter what you may hear to the contrary. If the clients would just start proofing their records from Indian MTSOs, they would find the quality horrific. I go to several doctors in my hinky-dink town, and they all offshore to India or the Phillipines. I am about to stop going to one doctor, a pain specialist, as my medical records are inexcusably incorrect. I have even reported this to my insurance company, and its really a mess. These offshore MTs type anything. I have had trigeminal neuralgia for years, and they changed that into TMJ - quite a difference. My doctor kept asking me how my jaw was, and I kept saying what are you talking about? My jaw is fine. Then you have to actually argue about what your diagnosis is. My husband goes to a doctor who uses offshore Indian MTs, and he has lower back DJD. Two months ago, he went for a followup, and they told him his auto insurance had denied his whiplash claim. Again, not us, not his diagnosis, but he has had all kinds of problems fighting the incorrect diagnosis that some offshore MT put in his report. Its a disgrace, and I think that is our only option, but not sure who gives a hoot either. Government?
i'm glad they read it & hope they've read everything i wrote [2008-08-04]
it hasn't been pretty
I am so mad reading this code of conduct. [2008-07-29]
So much of it to read. A statement,Deal fairly with company's clients and employees. Well, how come some of us get raises every year and for other MT's, it takes 10 years to get a raise. How come some MT's get primary accounts and while other MT's get the cesspool.
I understand Code of Conduct in companies are needed and a lot of it makes sense, but I am frightened to sign this one as I feel like I amsupposed to be a robot working for this company. I am not a computer, but a human being.

I hope so - someone I know is thinking about applying.. [2008-07-21]
for a job as a supervisor. I got some info from another poster about it and it doesn't sound promising, but my friend really needs the money, just like the rest of us. I'm looking at other companies because we're going broke (literally) due to the decrease in my pay and my medical bills, etc. (posted about this in another thread). Hopefully someone will come along and put up the truth about what the heck is going on. Not holding my breath, but keeping my fingers crossed, at any rate! There is enough change going on right now and I'm just a wreck about it all.
Just re-reading your post and got to thinking. SM [2008-07-18]
I guess I really don't know what you are trying to say. Are you upset that they release you from not working when there is no work? MQ does have a downtime policy/pay for being out of work. My other company has no downtime pay policy. I do not have PTO there, so when there is no work, I do not get paid.
I think we are lucky here that there is a downtime pay policy at all, no matter how small it is.
I sure hope it works out for you... [2008-07-17]
and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself.
READING QA FEEDING IN QASAR -WHEN? [2008-07-17]
Ok, this is a question I have asked MQ and never received a reply to. Just when are we supposed to read our Qasar feedback? Off the clock and not get paid? or on the clock and lose what precious little pay we make per hour now?
Reading QA feedback [2008-07-15]
I think most people do read their QA feedback. The few that do not don't seem to care if they are making the same mistakes over and over. MQ is a large company and it is nice to have a system where you can get feedback since the one-on-one feedback is a thing of the past with the company being so big.
I hope that isn't true, but [2008-07-15]
I have a bad feelig that you may be right.
1- I think the ASR rate WILL decrease eventually...
2- I don't think this new benefit rate has anything to do with the recent sale of MQ.
Which is why I'm trying to make the best of it while I can. Meanwhile, I'll be going to nursing school to get a skill that can't be outsourced ;)
Reading [2008-07-15]
I read mine also but don't always mark it as read right away. I really appreciate the corrections but have also found blanks still left in some of the reports. Makes me feel better if they can't hear it either. I have also noticed marking out what I have typed and typing exactly the same thing underneath. Not sure what that is for.
Email from PS today, "Apparently some are not reading QA feedback, [2008-07-14]
which is the purpose of it. You are required to read the feedback and then delete it. Took them long enough to catch on to the fact that we aren't reading it any longer.
I hope it's different for you, but.... [2008-07-11]
when I trained for ASR I only had 4 or 5 ASR reports a day as well. Then my training was over, and I actually was doing it for the 30% reduction and not the training pain....suddenly most of my jobs were ASR. Really, I went from getting 1 ASR for every 8 notes to about 1 straight transcription for every 8 ASR. Paycheck took a BIG nosedive. Production never increased.
i hope we all get better jobs soon [2008-07-11]

I hope you meant to say skip markers [2008-07-10]
I hope you mean skip markers. The redundant markers are being over-used and are wrecking the quality of the ASR. I've done ASR nearly from the beginning and I have never used a redundant marker yet.
You're welcome. I hope it works out. nm [2008-07-10]

you can find a new job and know the blessed peace of not worrying about this stupid company. Truly, if its not one thing, its another, isn't it? A constant state of turmoil about something or other. I know some MTs just ignore it all, and sometimes I think that's a good game plan, but not in this current situation with CBay and the current economic situation in the US. Yes, as the other poster mentioned, I forgot Wedmedx. I do believe they are USA only as well. I also believe they are hiring as well. All 4 of these companies have wonderful reputations. Sure, you can read about the no work situations and complaints, but I know MTs from MQ who have gone to all these companies, and no work has not happened to any of them. I think sometimes the MTs who have no work have extenuating circumstances which they don't share, so it shows us a skewered review. Like, most times the MTs who have no work don't share that they only type certain work types, or will only work certain hours, orare newbies to the field, things like that which impact why they may have no work when others do. I have always made it a point to transcribe anything and everything thrown at me, and it was worth it in the end, though challenging. At any rate, best wishes to you! MQ is truly not the only game in town anymore. At one time, they were. But things have changed drastically of late, and are changing more every day, with MQ losing its power hold, or strangle hold, on the market. Its refreshing for sure!

god's green earth English is your first language, and from your wording, I doubt Spanish is either. Your posts have all the tell-tale signs of email scams..so again..I wonder what you hope to gain here? Are you a spy for CBAY systems..taking the pulse of American MT's, trying to get a handle on how disgruntled this group is?..gathering names in a McCarthy-type fashion for use in some sort of high level corporate espionage malfeasance?? Wow..transcription is DANGEROUS business!!
follow me - i have solution [2008-08-15]
If you will follow me I can give you some awesome and legal informatation that may get you compensated in Federal court as I have spoken to an attorny who works with large companies who have rippoed off employees on OT and such adn he says I have a case but he has a better chance of winning if we have more than one employee becuase it is FEDERAL COURT.

Is everything already going to India, is that why we're out of work and QA is so backed up? [2008-08-15]
It's either that or something else. Just got an e.mail yesterday telling us that DQS is going to be down for updates or something (I think next week). Maybe they're getting everything ready to leave us and that's why we're all in the cesspool - or have no work at all.
I actually thought it would take longer to happen, but maybe not. In any event, I've already applied to 2 other companies -- hope to be outta here soon.
PC protection [2008-08-15]
I had something similar happen to me about a month ago. It even had a Microsoft shield. I didn't lose any work time thank goodness. I called technical right away, I knew anything that you can't get out of in 3 or 4 attempts is usually a virus or spyware. I don't know how old your PC is but I received a new one in March. The version of McAfee on my new PC will not even allow you to download Adware. McAfee sees Adware as a type of spyware. Someone from the Geek Squad told me that too. Technical suggested Spybot so I downloaded that, my PC ran terrible after the install and I couldn't get that off of there fast enough. I later found out that had been black listed. Microsoft has their own software for protection of spyware, virus, etc. I am currently using Live OneCare on a free trial. There is also Windows Defender, that one might be free of charge but I'm not sure. I did talk to technical prior to the download as I did not want to cause any problems with any current software on my PC. OneCare lets me know when there is a threat and takes care of right away, all I have to do is click on it after the threat message shows up at the bottom. Here is the link to the Microsoft security website. Hope it helps.
I suggest back up on a flashdriver. They are easy to use, small, they don't scratch, you can take them anywhere anduse them whereverthere is a USB port, and very inexpensive, 4.0 GB should do nicely.

RE: Question [2008-08-15]
Congrats. I too left after 9+ years just about 2 months ago. You PS just wants to make sure why you're leaving. Mine was great about it. She asked if there was anything she could to make me stay and I said nope. She also told that about 2-3 weeks after your last day, you would receive labels to return your computer tower. They didnot anything else back but the tower. Hey, I got a free pedal and extra monitor out of the deal. I did request that she send me an email stating that only the tower needed to be returned, just to cover my butt in the long run. I got the labels right around the time she said they would come. If you kept the boxes they came, then all you have to do is tape it back up and slap the sticker on and drop it off at an UPS store. Took me all of 30 seconds. Didn't cost a thing. I did just get the last follow up survey MQ gives to see how satisfied with our job experience we were. They asked, if they offered more money would I consider staying. Said nope again, I am really happy with my current company. Told them I was not happy with having to take a pay cut for a program that was not learning and did not improve my production what so ever. Not as brutal as some probably would have been, but I think I got my point across.
Hope this helps. Congrats again.
I thought MQ was great when I first started..... [2008-08-14]
back in December, however, the more time that goes on I see how stupid and ridiculous these people are. I also didn't realize it at first but my training was absolutely horrible. It seems like everyday I'm learning something new that I should've been taught in the very beginning, either by reading this board or through audits or whatever. And they treat us like we're machines.
I do have to say, though, that I have the best PS ever. He's awesome and I love him. Hehas a lot of the same beliefs that we MT's have about certain things. Unfortunately, not a whole lot he can do.
The only reason I'm sticking around is because I've only been an MT since December (but been in the medical field for more than 10 years) and there aren't very many companies that hire w/o 2 or more years experience, at the very least. So, I'm here for the long haul to gain my years of experience before moving on.
I have been with MQ for years...sm [2008-08-14]
and have no trouble saving expansions. The basic concept is really about the same with most of these programs, save a phrase with characters you can easily remember so that when you type these characters, your phrase will be inserted. From what I have seen, some of the programs can get expensive and take quite a bit of time to set up. The DQS expansion program is really not too bad if used correctly, and it is free!
As far as losing your expansions, maybe you are not completely saving them. I learned this the hard way after losing several expansions myself!
1. Highlight entire phrase, whether it is two words ora whole page.
2. Hit control E.
3. Type in the replace box what you want to call your phrase, ex: bid for b.i.d., tpwaf for the patient was admitted for, etc.
4. Hit Alt A for add.
5. VERY IMPORTANT: Hit Alt C to close or click on close. Do not hit esc orthe red x on the expansion box.If you do not close the expansion box like this, sometimes it will not save the expansion.
Try this, and then if you still want topurchase an expansion program, go to the websites of the different ones andcheck them out. I decided to stick with DQS as it works for me and I have thousands of expansions. I have never had a problem withit getting too full, and I have a lot of repetitive expansions such as tpwa, tpwaf, tpwat, tpwao, all for the patient wasadmitted for, to, on, etc. and even whole report expansions for dictators who say the same thing over and over. The thing about using these expansions is you must really pay attention to what the dictator is saying. You can't leave in paragraphs if they don't say them, that was the problem with MTs using these. I am not telling anybody to use these or not use these, just letting you know why it was suggested not to use them.
Hope this helps!
I did send job numbers before to Support and PS. SM [2008-08-14]
Sometimes I was told it must be my equipment, which really made me mad. Why then are some crystal clear? I will continue to direct these problems and job numbers and hope for the best.
no offense taken [2008-08-14]
just hope it does not happen to others also. Maybe the other post who got fired did get warned and is not telling. Ido not see how they would let someone go without a warning. they seem to give warnings out as what is detailed in MQ central. they probably know when someone is abusing the system.
good luck to ya [2008-08-14]
Oh, I know that sound quality isn't the only problem and yesterday it took me an hour to do 1 report for a line count of under my 100 lph requirement. I hope you get the job that you interviewed for and that it is a better place for you -- anything has got to be better than thedirection that MQ has taken.
My expansion file kept getting scrambled sm [2008-08-14]
each time I had a power glitch and an older file was overwriting the good one I had saved. Tech support helped me out there and advised I get a battery backup for the computer. Did that and also got a surge stopper put on my house. Hope that works.
However, my supervisor said a former employee's expansion file got scrambled because it was too big. Mine is huge and I wonder if that is my problem.
How does that check box for standards work in the expansions dialog box? Is that a way I can move some of my larger expansions, such as sample op reports, there? Maybe that will solve my problem. When I check that box, the with box darkens, but I can't do anything with it.
When I sign off from DQS, it seems like it takes an awfully long time to save my user.aco file. This is another reason why I think the file might be larger than manageable.
Your help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks.
(I work for a hospital, BTW, not MQ. Our supervisor and QA person are the only ones who manage/edit the standards files that we access only by using alt-S. These are standards provided by them.)
Thanks, again.
ASR tips [2008-08-13]
I agree. I use the yellow highlighting feature, and then I just following along using the control and arrow keys to move the cursor from word to word or line to line. Then when I need to correct something, the cursor is nearby if not already there. If I need to delete text or use a skip tag, then I use the control, shift, and arrow keys to highlight all the text I need.
I hope this is clear. I'm not really good at explaining things, but I find this is the best way for me. I actually wish I could do ASR exclusively. I find the time goes much faster and I don't get nearly as frustrated. I love ASR. I think if I could do it exclusively, I'd really make just as much money as I do transcribing.
e-time [2008-08-13]
I could not find anyting in etime tutorials related to this question. I thought it was acceptable to log off when going over a difficult report as this could count against Keystrokes and thus bring you pay rate down used for pto. Any suggestions? I hope I am in line here if not I will not be doing this in the future. I seldom do it though. TIA
The email they sent made it loud and clear that [2008-08-13]
if you are not logged in you should NOT be working and vice versa.
I hope more people don't get fired for not following this requirement.
names [2008-08-13]
I may be out of line here, but I'm going to go ahead and say this anyway. I've noticed on this board that there have been posters who use their first names and/or first names and last names. I have seen my first name on here and it kind of makes me flinch as we all know that the board is read by most likely management at MQ. I definitely am using an alias, but when I see my name posted (which may or may not be a common name) it kind of makes me feel uneasy as we all know there are probably ways of narrowing the list if someone really wants to find out who the poster is. I'm just saying that I think it would be better if everyone uses an alias not even near their first or last name so at least they'd have a harder time trying to maybe find out MTs names on here. I think we probably can agree that the person posting about getting fired because of not being in ETime appropriately got some notice as an email was sent regarding ETime. Right now is a very vulnerable time and the eyes are probably really scopinganything and everything. I hope that no one takes this offensively as I don't mean it to be -- just trying to look out for everyone.
Per cent not a word, unless its referring to money. [2008-08-12]
See Book of Style 2, pages 308 to 310 for clear details of when to use % versus percent. I hope nobody changed to per cent on you. Oh my.
The four different amounts is easily explainable...sm [2008-08-10]
I'll use next pay period as an example which runs from Saturday Aug 16th thru Sunday Aug 31st.
To make it simple let's say all OT was worked on the weekends only.
OT worked on Sat. 8/16 would be one OT rate.
OT worked on Sun. 8/17 would be another OT rate since it's a new week.
OT worked on Sun. 8/24 would be yet another OT rate.
And last but not least if OT were worked on Sunday, 8/31 that would yet be another OT rate.
All in all, one whole pay period with four different OT rates.
Hope this helps.
It's midnight and I just checked my bank - mine check is there. So ..... [2008-08-09]
I guess it really does depend on your bank. So, original poster above, there is some hope for you!
sorry for the inflexibility you had [2008-08-09]
what did they not want to be flexible about? I too agree they could use a better choice of words. How long ago was it that you went to flex part time? I could be wrong but it seems like people are still going to flex part time by reading some posts on here.
I have the payroll schedule [2008-08-09]
Payday is Monday. As per usual, my bank always holds it. I do remember from reading about this subject in the past that Wachovia and Wells Fargo release the funds earlier.
I don't think you will benefit (sm) [2008-08-09]
I don't think you will benefit from going to PT flex. I think the only change will be losing your PTO. You still have to work a set schedule. There really is no flex to it. I think that FLEX is just a word they used to make it seem like a good thing.
With PT flex you are required to do 2000 lines from Sunday to Saturday, but if you are scheduled to work 15 hours and say you get your 2000 lines in with just 10 hours, you still have to work 15. At least that is my experience (sometimes it depends on how strict your PS is because I have read some posts where some PS let you stop when you reach the 2000 lines). I also read in some earlier posts that MQ was not letting people do PT flex anymore. I hope I helped. Good luck!!
Back to MQ [2008-08-09]
I know several MTs who came back to MQover the last few yearsand I came back just a year ago. I got the cpl I asked for andthe service area I asked for, so was very happy after being jerked around by 3 other companies (2 nationals and 1 small MTSO)as employee, not to mention the headache of trying out IC as well. I know others have not been as fortunate with MQ and I appreciate their frustration with this whole mess. Maybe some other companies have nowgotten better, but I am done with trying out others, not worth the effort. My hope is thatI will have ajob with MQ long enough to get me to retirement in a few years. If not, then I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
I still feel that with the increasing number of companies now offshoring and/orfinding other ways to cut costs, the ones who do not find ways to cut costs will not be able to compete and will either do the same thing or simply go out of business. I know that several local hospitals in my communityhave gotten rid of their in-house transcriptionists, I was one of them several years ago,and gone with a service and2 of those hospitals agree to have their dictation offshored because the whole idea is to cut costs; not rumor, fact from administrators whom I have worked with in non-related community activites. It is sodepressing to see this profession going in this direction. Sign of the times I guess.
