i agree - one board for whiners and one none-whiners nm [2008-09-30]

If Medquist management had any brains at all they'd read this board [2008-09-30]
They don't. They're incompetent. I do not believe what they are trying to do will work. I believe Medquist is the business version of the Titanic, simply because they will not do what is the core of their business, which is L I S T E N.

Forgot to mention. Make sure you get the number they are to give you for this problem. nm [2008-09-30]

Anyone else give negative responses on [2008-09-28]
A few days ago I filled out the ASR survey and, well let's just say that one should not fill this out while in a bad moodand after a string of really bad dictations to edit. The people collecting the data are going to know EXACTLY how I feel about ASR. Just wondering if anyone else who dislikes ASR has filled this out. Please, pleasedon't let me be the only one who voiced negativity toward it.

You would probably get a lot more understanding from the politics board sm [2008-09-25]
Sorry these people are being so rude to you. I would try that board.

The MQ board is for MQ subjects [2008-09-22]
It's not a doomsday report; it's the truth. But have it your way, I'll see you on the other board soon since I doubt the American MQMTs will be here much longer.

just give HR and the 1800 number [2008-09-19]
All you need is someone saying yes she worked here from this date to this date or no she did not work here. No need to give more than that.

Sorry, wish I could give you some info...sm [2008-09-18]
All I can tell you is that I have been with MQ for many years and there have been many changes, but some times change is good. If you want to learn something new every day...then MQ will probably be a good fit for you. The way the economy is going now...I'm very happy to be working for MQ. No problems here :) Good Luck!

Yes, I know they read this board....sm [2008-09-17]
What I said above is that this board is not sanctioned by MQ, not appreciated by MQ, and MQ certainly doesn't like that this board even exists. They would much rather prefer that the ONLY information their MTs receive is from MQ and not a public board that they can control... period, end of story. I'm no longer an MQ employee as I finally found a better place for me last month, but I was with MQ for over 13 years, through good times and bad, and in several different capacities through those years, MT, QA, mentor/trainer, work flow coordinator, client relations, etc., and I do know that the management read these boards....not that it matters much in any of their decisions, but they do read the boards. This was a great board during those times so we MQ MTs could get information we couldn't get otherwise, but what I'm concerned about now is the new MQ MTs who are coming into the company who don't know that this is not an MQ sanctioned board and are coming here for advice on anything from company police to how to do what in DocQscribe. I'm sorry newbies to MQ, but this is not the place for some information you are looking for! Sure, we can give you some helpful production hints in DQS, etc., but do not listen to everything you hear here as rules or regulations regarding MQ... That has to come through your PS or Qnet or whatever other source MQ has come up with. A lot of what is posted here is personal opinion and not MQ policy or procedure, so please check with your supervisors on everything. Like I said, I worked here for over 13 years and most of it was wonderful, but I tend to agree with the majority of the posters here that things at MQ have gone downhill and continue to do so. I once made over 400 lph, easily $40,000/year part-time and didn't break a sweat...yes, even when MQ was signing my checks! But the last few years with the cesspool and ASR that hasn't been the case. I lost my primary and it's gone downhill since then. If I had stayed with MQ the rest of this year, based on what I've made so far this year, I would be lucky to gross $25,000. Same company, same 65-character line count, etc., it just isn't possible with doing hundreds of accounts with 95% ELS and 98% poor sound quality. I am serious folks. I was doing quite well with MQ until the last two years because I had one steady account and one backup basically. Once the cesspool came into play, it was over. Don't even have to factor in ASR as I only did that for the first three months (or whatever it was they gave you to decide if you like it) to tell that wasn't going to cut it and asked to be taken off. On my primary that I was making 400 lph, when it went to ASR, I was lucky to make 200 lph! It was 100% ESL and I had done them for years and knew them like the back of my hand and could transcribe them in my sleep..... ASR butchered their reports and it took me so long to fix them that I could only do half as many lines... and they wanted to cut my pay per line by 30% more??.... That's why I quit. I wasn't going to take that big of a pay cut. I couldn't just F11 and transcibe it because it was EVERY single dictator and ASR doesn't learn if you don't use the skip markers, etc.... so even then, I'd have been totally transcribing them for 30% less! Sorry to get off the track there... bottom line for the new MTs at MQ is that you can't use this board as any sort of ''authority'' of what you should or should not do with your work at MQ. Posts here are OPININON ONLY and not direct MQ policy. If you see or hear something here, please verify it with your PS or QKL before taking it as MQ policy or rules. As I said before, I thank MTStars for providing us this forum to post our gripes, our feelings, and our helpful advice to new MQ MTs.

not crazy, will give headaches [2008-09-17]
Sometimes listening to that sound over a long report gives me a splitting headache- wonder if I can get work comp for that? I used to have one account that thankfully moved out of the region with the realignment, every report had sound quality issues because the client was too cheap to invest in new equipment. They knew the problem existed and just told us to work around it. Nice, huh?

give a lude or blunt, LOL [2008-09-16]
Just know the lingo from the kids, but I guess it chills ya, long time no do, do not remember, but go girl, same situation with me, can barely do the same thing and make line count, something is going on here, gradually, but frequently. The more I work the more I have to work. Killing me. I need a lude, can you still get them? LOL

Why is there a Medquist board? [2008-09-16]
is this because many MT's that come here are employees of Medquist? is Medquist part of mtstars? are there lots of questions regarding MQ? Totally out of curiosity. and also.... I remember when they bought out the company I worked for YEARS ago and I was offered a job for well under what I was making before with so much more to learn. I've never considered them since... (thankfully I haven't had to) but I was very young and didn't realize change is sometimes necessary. Are they a good employer now?

Because MQ posts monopolized the board. nm [2008-09-16]

Because MQ posts monopolized the board. sm [2008-09-16]
They are not affiliated with MT Stars. Way back MQ threatened a bunch of the boards and some caved and got rid of MQ jabber (complaining), but Stars actually refused. As long as it's not a lie it's not libel and MQ had no justification.

re:performance management [2008-09-15]
I received a phone call and was sent an e-mail with a performance management notification for me to sign and return the first of January of this year. It was because I was not meeting my line count. I had been averaging around 137 lph mostly due to learning how to edit and getting accounts i was unfamiliar with, all of which was slowing me down. when i got the verbal/written warning i was already on the upswing and within that week was back to the 150 and above. since the 4th of july week of this year, my line count has plummetted once again...first because my primaries were caught up, the work was low and i was getting all kinds of junk i was unfamiliar with. a couple of weeks of this and my frustration level peaked, and i stopped caring. then, when my primaries finally did start coming back, for some reason the audio has been just terrible. so its been a struggle ever since early july and i'd be surprised if i've averaged 100 lph since that time. and yet, i've heard nothing about it. i was just reading the policies and it says after 2 pay periods of not meeting the required line count, i should have heard something. in the meantime, i've been looking for other jobs and/or health insurance so i can pay for my own should the need arise, and i'm imagining it will only be a matter of time before they tell me i need to make an employment status change i.e. switch to full-time partial benefits, or part-time, or be fired altogether. i'm imagining they'll work something out with me before they fire me, but i'm getting ready for whatever nonetheless.

This is what management wants! Indians are ready to [2008-09-15]
happening now. Can't you all see that? The whole performance management push - it's not accidental or mismanagement - its intentional. Indians are the true bosses here, and they want to strip the US MT staff down to bare bones minimum, and yes, compared to Indian, we are fat cats. I imagine any part timers will be safe. Its those that are full time with benefits of any kind who will be pared down to nothing. They have their Indian staff ready to replace anyone who fails their performance management. Please see the bigger picture here, and stop thinking the wrong direction - that MQ management is incompetent. They are far from it - they ARE competent. They are the #1 world's largest MTSO, and they did not get there by being incompetent. They have done everything to MTs over the years deliberately and planned. Nothing is incompetent about them. Please give them credit and realize what you are dealing with. It amazes me that everyone continues to think that they are making stupid decisions - they are beyond clever, and are destroying the MT career, while MTs just chuckle at how stupid they are. Please, wake up and smell the coffee. Not much to do about it - either work for these folks or get out and get your sanity back.

Performance Management Process [2008-09-14]
I have a question. I am in performance management due to my hours. If I do not make line count this payperiod...does a new performance management start for this issue or does it piggpack the process I am already in.

then give us back our 10% ASR [2008-09-12]
If the client is getting charged the same, and ASR certainly is not learning why not give us back our 10% ASR rate that they felt was justified in taking away.

If management is really reading [2008-09-04]
this board, and we know you are, how can you be reading these posts and not know what your doing to your staff??? Laugh now, but things are going to change. You won't be able to send our jobs out of the country for very much longer and you will need the US MTs to work for you and you won't have us. It will then be your turn to live with a lot less money and it will be your own fault.. If I were running this company I would certainly be trying to make the people who bring the money in a little happier because without us you don't have a company...

on the other board u said u make 10 cpl [2008-09-03]
the company board

They don't just give you a QA job- [2008-08-20]
you have to pass a test first!

''blow up your skirt'' LOL. just give it up. nm [2008-08-16]
EFL, my hiney.

Nope just 4 new board members -- [2008-08-13]
one of those being the new chairman of the board, all appointed by CBay. Keep wearing them blinders!

Since this board is monitored [2008-08-13]
I'd like to know how nuts do we have to get with this e-time thing? Should we clock out to use the bathroom? To answer a phone call? I think most of us have worked in an office at some point and we know that we didn't spend the entire time with our noses to the grindstone. So, c'mon Medquist. Tell us how anal this is going to be.

3 years. They gave my other raises to management. [2008-08-12]
But ha ha ha I'm leaving pretty soon...

If it bothers you so much, then [2008-10-11]
why do you torture yourself by reading this board? It seems it is your choice to do so, so you must be getting something out of it.

Transcription companies [2008-10-11]
That's what I've been trying to tell you gals. You can't trust any of them! There is favoritism and nepotism out there. Here today, gone today. They're either fly-by-night, they sell, get out of the business, ormerge and change names then you don't know what new name they're going to come up with and they will start telling you all kinds of stories when you apply, such as: They're the best, we have so much work we can keep you going all day...we're growing and growing and looking for conscientious and accurate transcriptionists, etc - heck, you know what I mean. You all need a union. You need to be represented by someone who will stop this abuse of MTs. I've been saying it for years. These companies are unscrupulous...if I'm wrong, name me just one! They're ripping you off and making you waste your time with lousy dictators...unless you're a pet of theirs! I'm not afraid of them, and I would fight them if I had the right contacts. They're unethical and don't give a rat's ass about you.......WAKE UP ALL OF YOU!!!!

You prove our point! [2008-10-10]
They want us all lined up like little soldiers with the idea that they can predict when the work will come in. Well, guess what. They can't. So they WANT us to be flexible, although only of course when they give their permission.

Oh, if only we were all so blinded and naive, what a wonderful place it would be.. [2008-10-10]
On August 6,2008, CBaySystems purchased all of Philips stock interest in MEDQ. This was a total of 69.5% of MEDQ stock, hence making them the owners of the company. The following web page will confirm this information: http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS168893+08-Aug-2008+PRN20080808 As well, if you look at the article, it shows that several of the board of directors resigned. In September a new CEO was named. Another little blurb to further show how companies are structured underneath of other companies and may not blatantly reveal that ownership has changed hands: http://www.forbes.com/afxnewslimited/feeds/afx/2008/09/23/afx5457427.html Not pedaling garbage sweetie, rather known facts. I suggest you pull your head out of your Stedman's a moment and see the light!

i have been doing lots of looking and research -sm [2008-10-09]
In aug and sept i took 4 civil service tests, did well on most of them, and figured i would eventually get hired by the state, because I was number 1 on not all but quite a few of the lists. I got my first job availability survey in the middle of September. It was due back sept 18. I had been living for the mail every day since I sent it back, only to recently find out that on Sept 17 the governor implemented a hiring freeze that will last until the end of the fiscal year (next June 30). Given that I did so well on 3 of the tests (I did well on the accounting, not so well on the liquor, although the liquor job sounds more interesting) and that they had previously projected hiring more than average in the coming year, I'm pretty sure I can get a state job when the freeze is over. Once I had gotten an in house transcription job with no experience because they had just gone off a hiring freeze and were hiring like crazy. I just need the strength to be able to deal with working for the Q for the next 9 months. Of course, if they give my job to the Indians before then, then I won't have to deal with working for the Q anymore anyway.

Are you [2008-10-09]
In my case, it would be job count, since radiology gets paid by the job. Yes, my job counts have been high (thats, of course, when there is work); and, I have always said soon as you start making money MQ starts making changes. Being paranoid where this company is concerned, I was wondering if its across the board or only me.

MQ is getting quite strict [2008-10-08]
with absences. The only option with sickness is GET AN MD EXCUSE, that way they cannot say anything. As far as line count, they have always been strict on this, you have to meet your requirement each and every week. I do not think that your supervisor is picking on you -- I think MQ puts pressure on super's when things are not done the way they want them to be, i.e., missed work without PTO, not reaching line counts, etc. They expect the sun, moon, stars and so forth from us, but WILL NOT pay us for it.

supervisor [2008-10-08]
So much for flexible. I am hearing some of the same things about lines, though I am hearing it days before the deadline. Give an MT a chance! I too feel like they want me out. Is it possible we have the same PS?

Line count [2008-10-08]
I have been with MQ for a little over 3 months now and am now able to go over 100 lines/hour. I basically accomplished it through my word expander. That is the only advice I can give you, to work on your Expander and getting more familiar with dictators. Hope this helps.

Do you mean 186 lines the entire few hours that you worked? [2008-10-06]
To give you something to go by, I can usually do about 300 lines an hour ASR (so long as it's not cesspool). Are you just starting out with ASR. I've been doing it for years but I remember starting out much slower. Do you keep the speed as high as possible?

you know what the sad thing is??? [2008-10-06]
look on the mtjobs board

Touche to that . . . [2008-10-06]
Like right now, I am on this board because there is no work in my BOB (I wonder why?, ARGH), and I am on my fourth different unfamiliar site, and I am so apathetic right now -- I just don't care. I just gotta hope that after today, the work in my accounts picks up and I can make up these lost lines!! Oh Well!!

6000 employees [2008-10-06]
Google stock quote for Medquist. They give a business description and it says just under 4000 employees. IC or not, I think it's still way below where it was at peak.

duplex, Duplex, DUPLEX [2008-10-05]
Regardless of which way you type it, does anyone have any doubt that thecorrect information is conveyed? This is the legacy of AAMT - style over substance. There are still MTs out there who type proximally for approximately, perineal for peroneal, etc. There are PA's who says things like - the patient had cerebellum inhis ear - and you are all worried about whether to capitalize duplex. Pardon me if I don't give a rodent's posterior.

I understand that [2008-10-03]
but is the number they give you in addition to your normal schedule production or including it?

I'm trying to have a positive outlook. [2008-10-02]
Maybe the new guy at the top actually has some ideas that might work. Although I have the usual anxiety about change, I'm not going to get my panties in a knot just yet. I'm hoping whatever changes are coming will make it worth staying. As you had noticed,it also caught my eye immediately that there were new positions being created in management and wonder about the additional money spent. Hope springs eternal that some money will trickle down our way someday. Maybe, since there will be more contact with the clients, they will fix the audio problems! That certainly will increase my production and cut down on QA submissions.

Oh, they do... [2008-10-01]
I can assure you that they (MQ Management) do indeed read this board. I've heard this website mentioned often around here (No, I'm not an MT, but I'm not management, either.)

MQ not on this list. [2008-10-01]
A friend emailed me this list to look for another profession. I cannot believe it. Here I picked this profession thinking it would be great to have while raising kids. WRONG. Here are 100 best list companies for working mothers. Some companies give you full benefits for working 20 hours or more, weeks of paid time off, over $5,000 a year for schooling, weeks worth of vacations, paying for half the cost of adopting, free day care, and so on. The list shows even some good hospitals to work for, but no MQ. In fact, I do not see anytranscription companylisted, probably because of horrible benefits. Just thought this was interesting and may help othersif looking elsewhere since ASR is getting worse. http://www.workingmother.com/web?service=direct/1/ViewTopListingPage/dlinkPagesp=S0

Differences [2008-09-30]
QASAR QA ppl were trained differently than those of us on ASR years ago. I have tried to explain to PS and QLK the issues at hand, but they don't want to offer a solution. They just want to berate me down so far that I'm waiting for the bullets to be mailed. MQ certainly not readily available to answer questions. They thrive on trashing their employees. I GIVE UP!!!

The usual [2008-09-30]
Medquist management ruined the company for me. The failure of ASR, the cut in pay. Also, having a Medquist computer in my house was like inviting Big Brother to live with me. After the official ruling came down that we were only to use it for work, it gave me the creeps. We don't have a union. AAMT is a joke. The only way to show my real feelings was to quit. So I did.

How often are we supposed to check the MQ email [2008-09-30]
because I work three day shifts (FRI/SAT/SUN) weekly and just was informed that I missed the opportunity to sign up for the MANDATORY ASR refresher course. My immediate supervisor has been gone for aboutthe past month(it seems) but someone else has filled in and sent me a ratherabrupt email that said I MUST CHECK MY EMAIL MORE FREQUENTLY. Doesn't it seem a bit unfair to expect me to check it on days I'm not scheduled to work? She also didn't give me any idea as to when I can schedule the ASR course. What happens if you don't take it in a timely manner? I don't think they like me.

ASR funny [2008-09-30]
Typed: she needs to see a foot and ankle surgeon for suggestions on management of the shark O foot. Should be Charcot foot

Wow, sick of hearing why everyone LEFT - maybe [2008-09-30]
there should be a separate board of EX-MQ employees. Just wondering if you don't work at MQ anymore why you bother to come back to this board. I wouldn't.

My opinion [2008-09-30]
Knowing what I know now, I would definitely go with the local, smaller company and see how that works. I think your security would be greater with them. As you can see from this board there are a number of negative comments on here, which might clue you in as to what is happening with this company. One of the main complaints is the reduction in pay we have taken because of speech recognition, 30%, which means most of us have dropped about $600 a month in our pay. Another thing is the turnover in supervisors. Having our work sent offshore is another source of constant aggravation, and that means some of our best work and accounts are going there, and we are left with a lot of work that is just plain horrible. We are also monitored 24/7, as my note above reads, and now we are monitored when we type our reports and if we have our foot off the pedal for even a few minutes we get sent a message. I feel this infringes on our right to privacy and makes me feel as if I am in a setting where someone is cracking the whip right over my head. This is an unstettling feeling and does not promote or instill any type of pride in what you do or loyalty to the company you work for. This, of course, is ultimately your decision and you have to do what you feel is right for yourself. There are many other companies out there who do not offshore and take pride in their transcriptionists and also make them feel like they are wanted and needed in the company. If I had to do this over again, I would never have left the hospital I worked for. There are also other companies to do part-time work for, which are very good, maybe you can combine the smaller company with another part-time job to build up the nest egg. Good luck in what you decide.

You Have to Remember [2008-09-30]
You all have to remember that your supes are in the same boat that the MT's, QAS's, and QTL's are. The supes are just working to make a buck like we all are, and are subjected to the rules of the way high-ups. You may think that your supe, or his or her supe, is corporate and that he or she has control, but the answer is WRONG-O! All are in the same boat when it comes to that. Our supes are instructed to tell all what to do, but it doesn't mean they made up the rule or that they agree in any sense. Their job is just to relay the rules. Go easy on the immediate management. They have zero control.
