Me too! I feel your pain. I have until Friday. sm [2008-08-10]
I finally got the heck out after 4 years. The impact center called me twice this weekend for extra help on my primary. Mayday! Emails from my supervisor all weekend long. I go on my regular shift today andin the last hour, my primary is gone andI gotsome account I've never heard of before, doing notes from June, with horrid dictators, lots of static and absolutely no information in the client profile. I made about $5.00 an hour for the last hour of my shift and that is just one of the many reasons why I'm leaving.

I feel your pain... [2008-07-23]
I had absolutely horrible reports today for some MQ reason. ASR was just terrible, and dictators seemed to have dyslexia across the board. Audio on so many of the reports was junk. One thought it was 2003 (yes, she was dictating a report from today), another couldn't get her words out no matter what, another yawned through most of his dictations, another was on speed-speech. Perhaps I'm not supposed to, but instead ofnailing QA with all that mess, if I knew darned good and well what it was from past experience with them (which I did), I went ahead and put it in. If I hadn't, they would have had more than 20 reports just from me with stuff that was so obvious, it was ridiculous. I'm not that cruel.

I feel your pain. You deserve to take the rest....sm [2008-07-18]
of the day off. Have a drink and pretend you are in Tahiti!

I feel your pain!!!!! [2008-07-08]
I have this 6000 second dictation from one doctor (ESL). I can't hardly understand him to begin with and instead of having one big dictation....this is a bunch of little reports dictated all at once. He won't spell any of the names and I'm so lost and frustrated I could totally scream. I've been at this for over an hour and I just feel like cutting the power off to the house so I could say I lost power.....which I would never do but the thought has crossed my mind. LOL! Seriously though, why can't they keep doctors from doing this. I've done over 10 different reports in this one dictation and I'm not even halfway through. Personally, I think they should let us type the first report and send it and make him do the others as separate dictations.

It's not really a pain to switch, for me anyhow sm [2008-05-09]
I work for 2 companies, MQ and another. The other insists that MT use their computer (and not use it for anything else). I have the computers in 2 different rooms so I'm not stuck in 1 room for the duration of working 2 jobs. It really does help. I've also had them side-by-side and it's no big deal to switch. I just have to plug in the keyboard and earphones. No biggie! :-)

ASR 0 "Her penis is minimal" - should have been her pain is minimal. nm [2008-04-30]

2 options: Ask PS if you can switch to a different account with new PS or [2008-04-04]
go above her head and explain the situation to the Manager of your area. I would not take no for an answer and would not stay in that situation. The answer you were given is a copout. I have been changed from work pool to work pool on the discretion alone of whoever monitors the work flow without PS's knowledge. It can be done. She/he just doesn't want to deal with your problems and THAT is unacceptable.

feel your pain [2008-03-31]
Mine is useless- sent one sample that did not follow the CP!! I sent her a corrected sample, but she never forwarded it on. Gave up trying to help. Also questioned regarding QA blank regarding a discrepancy that I felt they just filled in with the incorrect word (could have done that too!) and got nowhere. When we get no feedback from QA and not allowed to even contact QA regarding the blanks they do fill in, our QKL is MIA and our super is too busy then I have learned to ignore the quality issue emails that are sent out periodically. What a joke!

You are so exactly right about IC. It can be a pain at SM [2008-03-25]
year end for taxes, but at least you can use your money all year long. When I was IC I did not have any cash flow problems like I have now.

I would put - once pain was initiated ... [2008-03-24]
IMO we are not to guess if she meant once pain medication or once pain was reduced or whatever else you can think that would fit. As for verbatim or not, I refuse to put something completely wrong or totally stupid - I just wont do it. QA can call me on it all they want.

This was supposed to be "once pain (blank) [2008-03-24]

Thanks. As if ASR wasn't enough of a pain :) nm [2008-03-04]

I feel her pain....... [2008-02-26]
My account is the same way and the reports are disgustingly long. It is not uncommon to get a head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis CT - for the price of one report. I have complained (as others) andwe are always told it evens out which is not true. I used to do over 100 reports a day - now I am lucky to get 60 with this account. I wish her luck.

I am just kidding - QASAR is such a pain for the MTs and QAs. [2008-02-20]
nm

I feel your pain - all I wanted was ASR [2008-02-11]
today, so I could relax and enjoy my ice creamcone. Instead, I get report after report of straight transcription. Now I know I'm not supposed to complain about that b/c a lot of you guys want the straight stuff, but today I just wanted to enjoy myice cream cone and couldn't. I, too, have had enough for 1 day and if that impact center even thinks about calling me today after my shift, I'm going to ask them for their home phone number, so I can bug them when they're done working. HA!

I feel your pain. I got a very late phone from MQ also last nite [2008-01-27]
BUT I did not answer my phone.(Thank god for caller ID. I have been with MQ for over 4 years and have repeatedly asked for a raise (still have never ever received one)...I try to work what extra I can for them when asked..but I am now of the resolve if they can't scratch my back, I can't scratch theirs...it is a shame it had to get to this. If MQ is so worried about the bottom line and TAT they need to show respect/consideration/loyaltyto their MTs, because without us there is no them! PS, My husband got very upset about this late call also, usually when the phone rings late it is usually never good news, right away your heart falls to your toes and my imagination goes wild what happened to who?

I feel your pain [2008-01-23]
I feel like I've been kicked down every time I have reached their and my own goals. I've only been an MT for 2-1/2 years and got hired on for a specific acute care account a year ago because I was good with ESL. The work was hard because I had mostly done clinic work at my previous company. Once I started getting good, they added other accounts which I felt was just to keep me from excelling. Then when I got good with those, the cesspool begun. I'm starting to get better with that, but the all ASR all the time is wearing me thin. Not sure I can take much more BS.

I've been trying to switch between fingers sm [2008-01-23]
sometimes using the middle fingers or the thumb. I've also been trying to not follow the dictation with the cursor on the better reports and instead jump to the text w/ ctrl shift m or whatever it is when I need to make a correction

Okay, I see where you are coming from now. PS - I feel your pain. I don't have any [2008-01-20]
days off. I had to take a second job in July when my pay went down at MQ. I don't get any days off.

EEEW, I hope not. That thing is a pain in my opinion. nm [2008-01-11]

I feel your pain and am in the same boat...sm [2008-01-10]
I think it's time I move on too. Even when I'm getting my primary and things are going well, I experience so much anxiety and stress worrying whether the next job in my queue is going to be out of my pool, a speciality I'm not familiar with, horrible ESL, long messed up CP, etc. The stress level is killing me and I don't even enjoy doing my primary anymore because I know what lurks around the corner. It wouldn't be so bad if it was wondering from month to month or week to week, or even day to day, but since the cesspool, it's now job to job and that's just too much for me anymore. I've been here over 12 years and the first 10 had ups and downs, but they either resolved quickly or the change turned out to be not quite so bad... or at least I could live with it even though it always cut my pay...But these past two years have gone downhill and there isn't even a hint that they will be getting better. I think it's time to give up hope and move on. I've had a few offers now and am exploring them. I've tried other companies over the years and the grass isn't always greener, but I'm going to keep trying until I find those greener pastures this time! Wish me luck!

Feel your pain [2008-01-09]
Make note in QA box *dictator effect* as reasons for blanks--don't waste time on anything that's unintelligible. QA will experience same dictator effect on listening and it will be documented. Better to at least try and muddle through it, since it did come to you. :)

I feel your pain! lol (sm) [2007-12-31]
I used to just agonize over it. Docs giving me very specific instructions but the CP states something different. I finally talked with my super. She and her manager both called me and confirmed to me that we always have to follow the CP. The hospital pays the bills and knows how they want their dictation, even when docs want to be jerks about it. They're such prima donas! LOL

I feel your pain. [2007-12-22]
I got my first, I think, maybe second, oral warning yesterday. You get 3 of those, then a written one. We'll see what happens. I, too, can only stand 40 hours a week and sometimes that's pushing the envelope. My sympathies to you.

it is a big switch from inhouse to home [2007-12-21]
I did it after just2 years of inhouse transcription and 2 years of business school for Medical Transcription and it was a big switch just working from home itself. You have tons of experience under your belt! So, you must know a lot. When I first started there were 2 people in particular that were the nicest QA you could find anywhere. I still have so much respect for them because they never made me feel inferior or intimidated me. I had my share of others though that were not so nice. I think we all have been there. Good luck to you again and I'm sure things will be easier. Maybe you will be QA 1 day!! Merry Christmas to you too :)

Google

Me too, and I just cannot understand it. [2008-08-29]
And I also keep just nicking out of 150 lph by a couple of lines (and I am not exaggerating - just 2 or 3 lph!). So get the threats. I just want to do a good job and be treated in a fair manner so I can take the time to do a good jot. For the last week I have had my thumb and wrist taped up just so I can type beyond the edge of my speed ability. If I dont' tape my hand and arm up, the pain is too excruciating. I can't wait for a day off to give the tissues a rest.

direct deposit? [2008-08-25]
I might be jumping the gun here, but I have always had my paycheck deposited by the 25th, usually even the day before when it falls on/after a weekend and it's not in my account yet. Does it always come in by midnight of the 25th or sometime during the day? We did switch banks, so I wonder if it's because of that?? I have a car payment going through today and my paycheck was going to cover it...now I'm getting nervous.

AMEN....I've been saying this ever [2008-08-24]
since they started messing with us a couple years ago, and even more so over the past year, and every time I said this someone on this board would accuse me of stirring the pot, but once again I say the truth is the truth....MQ has finally gotten themselves to a point where no one wants to work for them and so many have left that they are starting to feel the pain. Maybe now they wish they would have listened to us in the first place, but I also knew that management wouldn't care until their wallets started getting smaller. Way to go MQ you finally have started to imploded upon yourself...isn't payback a bitch?????? WE TRIED TO TELL YOU, BUT YOU WOULDN'T LISTEN...

I'm being acerbic [2008-08-19]
Or was it the chicken joke that bothered you? What's with Medquist? That's the question. They deserve some pointed barbs. They don't know who we are, they pay us less than we're worth, they have ASR programs which are a joke. And you ask why I drop a few sarcastic comments on them? I will ask kindly and with respect, what is with you for giving me grief because I react to the pain Medquist causes me with a little humor?

Yes, MQ has a very high quota for QAs. [2008-08-19]
The stress is a lot higher than MTing, but it's easier on your hands which is why a lot of people switch to QAing. (I'm always baffled by companies that say they only promote QA from within because it's a completely *different* job, not something to be 'promoted' to.)

what was the one with the blue screen? [2008-08-15]
its been so long I'm not sure if it was just called word perfect. At the bottom of the left hand of screen I remember it saying WP5.1. I did not have to switch back and forth. After the demographic screen I just hit enter and typed away. There were days I made over $100 easily now Ihave to workmy you know what offjust to see$85 in 1 day.

The only hope we have is IF the clients would [2008-08-04]
start checking their reports for quality. That is the KEY to solving this Indian mess. That, and trying to persuade US QA to stop QAing Indian messes. I have QA'd Indian work personally for years. It is horrible quality, especially the first few levels. It takes them about 4 to people to make 1 semi-quality document. Even when I would get the documents after 3 levels of MTs and 2 levels of Indian QA, the work was still often atrocious. They just don't have the language thing down, no matter what you may hear to the contrary. If the clients would just start proofing their records from Indian MTSOs, they would find the quality horrific. I go to several doctors in my hinky-dink town, and they all offshore to India or the Phillipines. I am about to stop going to one doctor, a pain specialist, as my medical records are inexcusably incorrect. I have even reported this to my insurance company, and its really a mess. These offshore MTs type anything. I have had trigeminal neuralgia for years, and they changed that into TMJ - quite a difference. My doctor kept asking me how my jaw was, and I kept saying what are you talking about? My jaw is fine. Then you have to actually argue about what your diagnosis is. My husband goes to a doctor who uses offshore Indian MTs, and he has lower back DJD. Two months ago, he went for a followup, and they told him his auto insurance had denied his whiplash claim. Again, not us, not his diagnosis, but he has had all kinds of problems fighting the incorrect diagnosis that some offshore MT put in his report. Its a disgrace, and I think that is our only option, but not sure who gives a hoot either. Government?

HRA/Insurance Question... [2008-08-04]
Hi ya'll. I have finallymade the decision to switch my status from full-time to part-time and I put in the request today. Can anyone tell me how long it takes before my benefits stop? And, if there is remaining money left in my HRA with United does the Q give that to ya? Or is there some way I can roll it over to a new insurance plan? I would like to be able to use it not lose it! Any suggestions? Thanks.

employer's computer [2008-07-30]
You are an MQ employee and the computer supplied is their equipment, and, as with any employer's equipment, it is to be used only for the employer's business. Technically, since we are employees and not IC, the employer should provide the equipment. Working on an MQ computer is just like going into the hospital to work when it comes to equipment. Fortunately, we have the choice of using our own computer which I like. Using my own computer, I can have it operating in the manner I like. The hospital I used to work for requires telecommuters to use their supplied computer which is a piece of tin. My friend, who still works for that hospital, just has a switch so she can do the work on the hospital's computer and then switch over to her personal computer for any 'net surfing, game playing or any other personal tasks. I have used a switch before and it is easy and they are cheap. All it is is a cable which connects the two computers to one keyboard, mouse and monitor and a switch. Push a button and you are on one computer, push another button and you are back on the other computer. It is an easy solution to keeping a work computer and personal computer separate with only the additional space of another tower rather than a whole system.

They want everyone to stick around [2008-07-30]
until the bitter end so they are not out of contract when the sale occurs. They will not tell anyone what is happening; they will just hit the on/off switch.

Retirees going into MT [2008-07-29]
At least most of the retirees I meet seem to have a good education. They have decent spelling and grammar, read books and newspapers, and can write a letter. I constantly get approached about MT by young ladies or their moms hehheh who have no qualification other than they want to stay at home. The first question I always ask is what about their education? How are they with spelling and grammar. The answer is always no, they barely passed high school. But I do worry about retirees and dexterity - speed - pain in hands - limited eyesight - computer savvy. It almost seems like a form of cruelty!

Instant text [2008-07-23]
I have used the Pro V edition for several years. It takes time to build the glossary, but it pays off in the end. The company that provides it will take your present word explander glossary and convert it into the Instant Text glossary when you buy it. It is a little pricey but it is worth every penny I spent on it. I now have over 10,000 entries which is small amount compared to some fellow MTs who have had it longer than I have who have 20,000-30,000 entries. The thing I like is that a small box comes up below your report that tells you everything that starts with the abbreviation starting with those entries. For example: Tp = the patient Tps = the patient's tpfy - the patient's family This is just etc. I copy and block entire reports to make a template if I type that doctor often. I leave in all the titles he/she dictates, take out nonspecifics that would not apply to every patient and leave in maybe PE and things he/she dictates all the time; i.e., Allergies: No known drug allergies. Family history: Noncontributory. Thinks like this. For example, anything starting with abd will pop up in the bottom window if I accidentally forget the abbreviation such as: abdp = abdominal pain, abdw = abdominal wall, abdd - abdominal distention for example. This is the only word Expander that I have ever used that I feel gives me another pair on hands. I simply cannot transcribe without it and it definitely boosts my production to a signicant degree. I do not remember what I paid for it, may around $200 or so (don't quote me on that because it has been a while) but it will pay for itself. I have talked to several who have been in the business a while who have it and they also swear by it. The cost, in my opinion, is a small investment that yields a large return in productivity.

I am wanting out too. [2008-07-22]
I know you can switch to nights and I know you can go to school during the day.I know you can just plain do it. Time does fly by fast and before you know it, school is done and you are out of medical transcription period. What would you be going to school for?

Just got back from grocery shopping. Wow! [2008-07-20]
Has anyone else cut back on groceries or activities because ofcut in MQ pay and rise in cost of living? I passed on buying so manygroceries I usually buy because of increase in price.I hardly drive any more because of gasoline and now have been notified my gas and electric is going up. Since everyone seems to be doing better on ASR and the cesspool, what happens if MQ drops the ASR rate AGAIN? My finances are getting downright scary. Anybody else feeling the pain?

No, they don't count against you, and NO, QA [2008-07-19]
was not supposed to be doing that kind of nit-picking stuff. However, I think you are going to see a lot of this as they are hiring a lot of new QA, and off the street QA, not MQ MTs moving into QA. My guess would be a lot of newbies, who, understandably, are going to hyper-focus on jobs. Otherwise, you have an old QA nazi on your hands!! LOL. But I think most all of them got the message loud and clear to leave the little stuff ALONE and don't mess with it. Sorry. I understand your pain.

at least you got covered [2008-07-18]
I applied for short-term through Met Life thinking I would cover myself in case I broke my arm or slammed my hand in the car door. Met Life denied my claim because my cholesterol was 1 point above THEIR underwriting standards. I could vent up a storm here, but IMOH they were looking for any and every excuse to deny me this small pittance of insurance. You would think that MQ would go to bat for their employees in real cases like yours or in cases of denial like mine. Oh wait, this is MQ whose concern and caring about their employees disappears faster than our work to India and the worth of MQ stock. While it may be a pain to jump through their hoops be grateful you have your disability insurance. I plan on fighting my denial, but am not holding out hope.

Oh crap [2008-07-18]
There was a post about a week ago from an MT who had a very bad dictator on a long report. We have all felt that pain, which for me was renewed again today. I had a 20 minute dictation by an ESL dictating from the CICU, not far from the nurses station where there was a lot of activity going on. He is surrounded by a crap load of very loud beeping monitors and he was eating something. Now if all this wasn't bad enough, he couldn't finish a thought or sentence to save his life! He would start sentence and go back and change it or he would start a sentence and not finish it at all, just started another sentence about a different subject! No go back and take that out, delete that nothing, just stopped! It took me about an hour and a half to transcribe that report and now I'm so wired and ticked off at him, my production for the rest of the day will be in the crapper! Do you think he just woke up this morning and said to himself I think I will make an MT miserable today. I need a very large, very strong adult beverage.

Trying not to whine. [2008-07-16]
Just wonder how long I can deal with my growing chest pain before my bennies kick in. I can't afford all the tests my doc wants to do.

Its a national standard, and law regarding medical [2008-07-16]
insurance, not just another torture ploy by MQ. Sometimes you all have to think with your brain and not your heart, no pun intended here. Think about the chaos if everyone could just decide in a moment that they wanted benefits, or didn't, or did again. Its just not the way our country and healthcare system run. I am so sorry the MT has chest pain. However, one can't have an illness one day, decide to jump on board full time and get benefits the next day. It doesn't work like that and never, everhas. There are mandatory requirements and waiting periods, both ways, coming or going. Its just the way it is, and it is in place for everyone, so no favoritism involved, or meanness on the part of HR. There are a few, very few, companies who put bennies thru after 30 days. That is the absolute fastest wait time in all jobs, as far as I know. 30 days min, 90 days or more the norm. If the MT had chest pain on Monday, signed on for insurance on Tuesday, had to go to the hospital on Wednesday, it very likely would not be covered and insurance denied anyway. Its just the way the system works, and we shouldn't all wait until we're really ill to either get insurance, if its an option, or go to the doctor. As the world's biggest procrastinator with my own health, I can attest to this.

Same here [2008-07-15]
I requested PTO on May 19. PS finally found it appropriate to answer 10 days before requested date. So I feel your pain. Amazingly, she managed to take a 10-day vacation to an exotic place. Obviously, her approval person is a bit more considerate. I feel your pain, just don't know where to tell you find the aspirin. Just know, you are not alone.

I Read Mine! [2008-07-14]
Even if I had a problem with QA (no reason to get ticked at QA, quite the opposite), I would be the fool for not reading their input. But go ahead and do what flips your switch. Also, has QA hired a bunch of new employees? I know my reports are bad when QA has been leaving quite a few blanks that I had no choice myself. No fakin' it here or QA! I also noticed that they crosseda few things out I typed and retyped the exact, same thing. Anyone care to guess why? Don't worry: I'm not the QA police...far from it!

WAy back when [2008-07-12]
you'll have to check the archives..somebody posted the answer to your question. I went through that riga-marole (as my grandmother would say). My comp didn't have a CD rom...so I had to get a CD burner and install to download the file onto. A pain in the booty. then to find out ...it wasn't necessary. DQS saves your expansions according to your profile. Of course, I'm using a MQ computer...so I'm not sure if that works on your own comp. I will say the tech people have been *there* for me every time I call..and I always try to document everything..and make sure I thank them. I'ma brown-nosing it baby. lol. If you need that info..find that previous post on *how to*

Medquist [2008-07-12]
Can't believe anyone is left. I coped with the switch from excellent BC/BS to crappy UHC, I managed the switch to ASR, but then they cut the pay on ASR and started bouncing me to 17 different hospitals in one day...how the heck can you make money if you have to read 17 different client profiles??? I quit.

They used to. I had always worked weekends. [2008-07-12]
Can't remember exactly when they did away with it. I just remember not seeing it on my check anymore, so don't know how long it wasn't there before I noticed. Then, I asked my PS at the time and she said we don't have that diff anymore. I then asked if I could switch to have Sundays off (still work Saturday) since I worked weekends for the differential and had done so for 8 years, every single weekend. Answer - Not approved. Stinks.
