Medquist....fed up with them! [2008-10-11]
Why don't all of you send Medquist packing? I'm so tired of hearing about the problems you MTs are having with them!

Medquist is actually great training for other jobs [2008-10-10]
Handling the Medquist cesspool has one great benefit: When you quit it's easy to adjust to the new account you get. Plus, even if you get a penny or less per line, you're happy because you aren't getting robbed by ASR. I live way out in the country (bears in the backyard once in a while). If you're a good Transcriptionist you don't need to wrap yourself in a city. You can work.

BOS2 and Medquist Guidelines are one and the same...nm [2008-10-08]
.

No PT flex anymore, national pool and ASR the same. nm. [2008-10-06]

How do I test for MedQuist w/o footpedal? [2008-10-01]
I am am experienced transcriber although I have not worked since hurricaine Katrina; out of the loop for a while I have several foot pedals but not one that works with windows XP; Please tell me how I can test with MQ ASAP with not FOOT PEDAL ASAP? Does anyone know? I would appreciate some help? Thanks dms

Very, very strange. The DEP system showed yellow light that system was impaired. [2008-10-01]
I kept trying to get in and it stated NO JOBS AVAILABLE. Are you in California, Colorado, North Carolina, etc.? Just curious. You were very lucky.

If Medquist management had any brains at all they'd read this board [2008-09-30]
They don't. They're incompetent. I do not believe what they are trying to do will work. I believe Medquist is the business version of the Titanic, simply because they will not do what is the core of their business, which is L I S T E N.

NO WORK. SYSTEM PROBLEMS. [2008-09-30]
Calling in right now. I first went to get on the system and guess what? NO JOBS AVAILABLE. Tried again because I could not believe it and now a job is trying to come in, but stuck. What I cannot believe is I always have work because the time is 8:00 PM Pacific time. What is going on?

It never fails, these system down times always - sm [2008-09-30]
Happen during MY shift. Why can't they do the daytime people a favor once in awhile and let them sit and twiddle their thumbs? Ok, I'm calm now...got a sandwich and bowl of soup...even went to the bathroom without having to worry about my line count dropping....ohmmmmmmmmmm

Hey maybe they are working on the system to get ready to send to India ?(sm) [2008-09-30]
I am afraid that one day we will go to log on for our shift and we will be locked out of the system. Someone told me that happended with Heartland. It just gets you thinking.

Not much activity on here anymore, sm [2008-09-28]
not even views????

There is a creepy feeling about Medquist [2008-09-28]
You know, one of the things I liked best about transcription was a feeling of personal responsibility and a feeling my effort would result in a reward. For the last 2 months before I quit Medquist, I felt like I was in George Orwell's 1984. Even using their computer gave me the creeps. It made me feel I was in a prison with guards watching me. Plus they were paying me less. It was so strange. I have been transcribing 20 years, and really the only time I ever felt something like this weird feeling was a long time ago when I did a temporary job at a Japanese company in LA where we all sat at word processors like cows on feed and a bell used to ring like in school to tell you when to start and stop. I honestly believe Medquist management has gone insane. This may be because somehow they believe the computer can do what we do. I imagine they will convince investors of this for a while, but ultimately it will flame out and fall into the sea. I quit. I'm glad I did. I can't say it's a lot easier anywhere else, but it is saner.

Questions about Working for MedQuist [2008-09-27]
I am job hunting and considering MedQuist. Can anyone tell me what type of health insurance they offer and how much the premium is for one person? Also, are they flexible in their start time, for instance one company I know of gives you an hour variance to start your shift and another one allows you do the eight hours within a 12 hour time frame. Anything like this at Medquist or are they very strict in terms of start times? Thanks for any info.

I'm not USA bashing! I'm MQ bashing! look up Susan Purdue Medquist on Internet and READ! [2008-09-25]
I'm not bashing the USA, Dr. No. I am bashing MQ, because the federal ruling that is going down right now in Boston involves US and our JOBS. And if you aren't angry about identity theft by terrorists allowed by the US Govt AND MQ, then by all means, wait until the dust settles and you don't have a job anymore.

MedQuist whistleblower [2008-09-25]
Found this at this link: http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1115638/posts There's always the other side of the slice of cheese, no matter how you slice it. Her husband was not an American Citizen. What was her real motive for snitching? During her interview, SUSAN PURDUE: My office was in the computer file server room. We had computers generating heat and they turned off my air conditioning. During the summer it was 100 degrees in there. RESPONSE: I don't know about the rest of the story, but this line certainly sounds bogus, I can't see any server room running very long without A/C and at a 100 degrees, those servers in there would have been down in a matter of hours from overheating. So if someone fudges the truth over a small matter like this to enhance her victimhood, I would take the rest of her story with a grain of salt too. Why did the FBI do nothing? Maybe there was nothing to do, if as she claims these files were coming in from overseas there would be some record either e-mail, or network logs, backup logs etc. I'm always cynical of the 'disgruntled' employee's version of events, ala Clarke and 9/11. 9 posted on Sunday, April 11, 2004 3:20

System Down [2008-09-25]
Hi Everyone:) The whole system is down and for now you cannot access DocQScribe, so it will not bring up any work. I called my supervisor and she said she sent out an E-mail on that, but MQ Central is also down, so no one will get it. Just thought you might all like to know this.

Anything good about Medquist? [2008-09-23]
I am a pretty new MT, and I was just wondering......Do any of you have anything positive to say about Medquist? All I am reading is negative stuff on this board! Only positvie persons need to respond!

Whine? Knew system would be down, but during bonus weekend? Just shocked.nm [2008-09-21]

Lost jobs during system check [2008-09-21]
Am I the only one who lost reports during the system check last night? I lost a report that took me 25 minutes to type. I had already finished it and logged off by the time the check started, but it is gone, baby, gone.So much for bonus weekend!!

Wow, this is a messed up system [2008-09-20]
Thanks for the info.

Are you kidding? I forgot about the system being down during bonus weekend. nm [2008-09-20]

Dear MedQuist [2008-09-19]
as long as the physicians dictating talk so fast that even slowing them down all the way does nothing to make them understandable and i have to listen over and over again to get one word, there is no way i will ever make a decent line count as long as the physicians dictating talk so slow, and pause for minutes in between each word, but you can't speed them up for fear you will miss them saying something, there is no way i will ever make a decent line count. as long as some doctors dictate reports that are over 1000 seconds long, pausing for long moments, thinking things over, with the end result being that this report takes over an hour to finish, there is no way i will ever make a decent line count. as long as the physicians dictating cough loudly into the microphone, causing me to have astroke, i probably won't be able to make my line count as long as the physicians start dictating with no knowledge of the patient before hand, leafing through the chart as they go, making their dictation impossible to hear over the flapping pages while they think about what they say, say it, change their mind, go back, do it over, there is no way i will ever make a decent line count. as long as the audio of this DocQScribe system continues to be sub-standard, and i have to listen 18 times to get one word, i will never make a decent line count. as long as ASR continues to be sub-standard, and it would be faster if i justed typed the note myself instead of making corrections every 3rd word, there is no way i will ever make my line count. as long as these conditions continue, and i continue to be paid less for ASR, which does nothing to further my production but rather lessens it, there is no way i will ever be able to pay my bills, keep my house, buy food or gas. as long as i feel stressed over having to reach a certain line count, which is too high under the above conditions, in a certain period of time, my mental health will continue in a downward spiral. thank you for helping to keep me at a sub-standard quality of life. thank you for caring.

me too [2008-10-10]
I don't have any Worker's Comp issues with MedQuist, but I too have been waiting over 8 weeks for my COBRA information. I have contacted them multiple times to no avail. I also have been waiting this amount of time for shipping labels to return their equipment. These too were promised. I refuse to spend my own money to send back the equipment. On a side note, I did work for Medquist for 17 years, put in a two week notice which I worked until the last second of my shift, and never received any kind of acknowledgement that I had resigned. Oh, I take that back, one call from supervisor left on my answering machine to call her, which I did, only to get her answering machine. No exit interview, no thanks for your service, just pretty much don't let the door hit you on the way out. There is life after the Q and it is SO much better! I actually love my job again. Good luck getting what you deserve.

They never picked on me [2008-10-10]
In fact for several years after they took over, when they still had regional offices, I used to work only 6-1/2 hours a day. I did 1200 lines a day and hung up. My supervisor at the time didn't care. Granted, I was cranking it during those 6-1/2 hours, more or less. Back then we sent in our time cards by mail or filled them out in advance, it was loose. Okay, so when they got rid of the regional offices and had the online time clock, yes I had to sit there during working hours. Actually I went through a period where I decided (before ASR) to really make money and worked liked a banshee for about a year, paying off bills, taking a vacation to Europe, really surprising myself with how much I could do. Then came ASR, and I found myself surfing the web all day between reports. I was just too p.o.'d to get into it anymore. I couldn't make money like before, and I couldn't do the minimum and hang up. And then when they started saying their computer could only be used for work, I really got irritated and I quit. Now I work somewhere with no ASR, no time clock and I'm back to really working again. If you let Medquist make your life miserable, you'll be miserable. Medquist is a terribly flawed company without any prospects if they don't manage to get their slave shop working in India. I recommend you quit. You'll be doing yourself and the craft of transcription a favor.

Don't you get tired of beating that drum [2008-10-10]
I'm sure there are some transcriptionists who abuse their time for MQ but the bizarre part is where they want you to rigidly adhere to your schedule, but then if they run out of work, they want you to be flexible and work other hours. It's a 2-way street; if they want us to be chained to our desks for those hours, when they don't have work available or have a problem with their system, they need to pay us. They claim they will, but just try getting it. In March when the system was down for over 2 days, they decided to call it one incident and limit our down time pay to no more than 8 hours. Then, of course, we were supposed to bust our hump to get them caught up again.

Your right, MQ same name, different owner [2008-10-10]
CBay Holdings who now have 69.5% ownership interest. My claim was filed on the same day that this purchase agreement took place. August 6,2008. Everything for my WC claim has also worked like a clock, and it is due to a competent, on-the-ball claims woman at AIG. I never said anything different or had a complaint about my claim. The point of the post was that she has not heard a word from anyone at MQ about her inquiries since being able to originally determine that I had actually been their employee. Thankfully, this is one system that has not been tied up just because MQ is a disaster.

i have been doing lots of looking and research -sm [2008-10-09]
In aug and sept i took 4 civil service tests, did well on most of them, and figured i would eventually get hired by the state, because I was number 1 on not all but quite a few of the lists. I got my first job availability survey in the middle of September. It was due back sept 18. I had been living for the mail every day since I sent it back, only to recently find out that on Sept 17 the governor implemented a hiring freeze that will last until the end of the fiscal year (next June 30). Given that I did so well on 3 of the tests (I did well on the accounting, not so well on the liquor, although the liquor job sounds more interesting) and that they had previously projected hiring more than average in the coming year, I'm pretty sure I can get a state job when the freeze is over. Once I had gotten an in house transcription job with no experience because they had just gone off a hiring freeze and were hiring like crazy. I just need the strength to be able to deal with working for the Q for the next 9 months. Of course, if they give my job to the Indians before then, then I won't have to deal with working for the Q anymore anyway.

MQ was sold outright [2008-10-09]
I was fired by the Q in August after filing a Worker's Compensation claim. I've just spoken with my WC representative and was informed that just the day after receiving my claim, the company reported a name change (no longer being Medquist). A few weeks after this she said their policy had expired. In addition, any correspondence she has tried with the Q has gone unreturned. She has not heard a word from them. They do not return her calls. (That's fine with me.The Q is having to pay me 2/3rd of full time work when I had only been put on a part time restriction.) As far as COBRA benefits, I was told in writing thatI would get information on this in the month after I was let go. It's been about 9 weeks now and have not received a thing. From the sounds of some of the things being complained about in the forum here and the things I am hearing on my end of things, MQ is basically gone! American facilities with American-living docs/pracitioners unknowingly having their transcription sent through an Indian company to be done. This seriously needs to become a fuss and brought to the attention of the medical professionals.

You are full of yourself. My check [2008-10-09]
stillsays MedQuist. Pedal your garbage someplace else.

Is MQ checking EVERYTHING you do, including how long it takes to type a report? [2008-10-08]
I was working and all of a sudden, this screen popped up. Anybody know what this is? I know it has to do with MQ. Is this legal? http://surveys.medquist.com/em4/reporting/transcript/pfilter.asp

I am having the same problem [2008-10-08]
I worked for Medquist a little over a year ago and always had over 200 lph. I just recently came back PT and now I can barely get to 100 lph, probably because every other report is from a different facility and I have to keep reading all the client profiles and referring back to them to make sure I am doing them right. I am just not sure this is worth it.

No-Work Talk [2008-10-07]
This can happen in the QA Dept as well. They offer OT when the system is so low it's not even funny. I haven't run out of work lately, but it's a squeak-by. Then, we have to make up the hours that we lost because they offered OT for 4 days in a row when it wasn't needed.

yep [2008-10-07]
MQ keeps an eye on everything. I've found if I am making too much $$ in their eyes, my accounts change...but the PS doesn't touch system. I've actually been moved to another supervisor for 1 month, and then miraculously moved back....with no explanation. Actually went a day or 2 withno one fromMQtalking to me. When I called,I was told they cannot talk to me about it. WTH???? I trust no one at MQ. You can't get a straight answer, and the double standard applies greatly!!!! For example, this morning, I have 2 reports from QA contradicting each other. Now what am I supposed to do with that.

ASR question [2008-10-06]
First, let me start off saying that this isn't a QA bash. I just need to know the correct way. I just started on ASR maybe a week ago. I had a report where QA left me feedback saying that I need to put a space after a skip marker (I can't remember the reason she stated) but in training I swear she said NOT to do anything like that after a skip marker as the system is set up to automatically put a space in or something. (not positive as to the why, but positive that she said NOT toworry about the space).

6000 employees [2008-10-06]
Google stock quote for Medquist. They give a business description and it says just under 4000 employees. IC or not, I think it's still way below where it was at peak.

Lots of newbies, experienced are leaving [2008-10-06]
Medquist will always be able to hire newbies. Soon they'll be a giant company of newbie transcriptionists. Our pay was already low. The company cut the pay. They declared a big dividend. With our money. So now we're leaving and, as Dylan says: Something is happening and you don't know what it is, do you Medquist? Soon they will be a giant company filled with newbie transcriptionists, slowly typing with the help of an ASR that is inherently dangerous with its mistakes.

not all editors are like the earlier poster [2008-10-05]
I had been an MT for 13 years before switching over to editing when my job was eliminated by outsourcing. I don't work for Medquist, so I can't speak for their specific QA department, but I promise you, not all of us who do QA editing have such a terrible my way or the highway attitude. Please don't judge all of us based on experiences with a few bad apples.

For your information [2008-10-05]
In Dorland's Medical Dictionary 29th Edition, a MQ recommended reference by the way, it is color flow Doppler; page 540 under Doppler. Also, in Stedman's Pathology and Lab Medicine Words 4th edition, also a MQ recommended reference, it is duplex Doppler, page 274 under Doppler. Also, in Stedman's Medical and Surgical Equipment Words 5th edition, yet another MQ recommended reference, it is color-flow Doppler, page 252. These are references suggested by MQ that we all use, including QA. So, in this instance QA was dead wrong in capitalizing duplex and should be educated on using MQ recommended references before changing anything in a report, especially preference changes. End of discussion. Medquist DocQScribe Production Standards Documentation on MQ Centralis where you can find a list of the recommended reference materials. It does not matter how long you have been transcribing and how you are used to typing things, it is all about whatthe employerand/or the clientprefers, right or wrong or whether you agree or not...adapt.

I know what you mean..... [2008-10-03]
I worked my rear end off Easter weekend for the bonus they were giving, and you know what I made......$5.40. I don't do the incentives anymore. It doesn't pay off for a part-timer like me. My weekends with my family are a little more important to me than the extra pennies I make.

Just started ASR...Have a question. [2008-10-02]
This is my first of what I'm sure will be many, many questions. When there are long pauses in the dictation, like the doctor takes a nap or something, is there a way to make the system speed up or skip through that? So far I don't mind it but I haven't seen my first ASR paycheck!!

I haven't applied to any transcription jobs [2008-10-02]
I'm getting out of the transcription business entirely. I've taken 4 civil service tests recently and did well on them, but in the counties around where I live there aren't many state jobs. I've also been a part-time accounting student for 8 years now, so I'm hoping to get an accounting job. If nothing comes up by spring, I might add the county where the state capital is (which would be a long commute but is where most of the jobs are) or take a test in another area. I haven't taken the clerk typist test yet, and I'm sure being a clerk typist for the state would be better than working for the Q. I did get an availability survey for a job that is accounting-related, $31,000 a year, and not very far away. I'm really hoping to hear something about that. I'm tied for #2 on that job list for that county. Basically, I'm hoping something better than working for Medquist will come along; I would hate to have to trade one crappy job for another crappy one. After my experience with Medquist (my only experience working from home), I've been burned by them so much that I really don't want to try another company. Wish me luck!

I've noticed less ASR too. But I think [2008-10-02]
it's because of all the new residents who haven't been put on the ASR system yet.. just my theory...
