I've found an expansion program thatlooks very similar to SmarType,with words appearing as you type the letters. I've uploaded a free 30-day trial, so I don't know whether it will work with DQS, or how to import other expansion programs, but this is the closest thing I've found that's similar to SmarType. It's Intellicomplete.

What will be replacing SmarType in the DocQScribe program? I can't believe I'm losing mySmarType and don't know if I can type without it after all theseyears.

I had Smartype and ended up getting Instant Text Pro V which you (sm) [2005-12-03]
add the SmarType too and it works fairly well with DQS. Their tech support was very helpfulingetting it set up since I'm not that computer literate. I've been using it for over a month now and am still getting used to it. It's notlike SmarType where you can key in a few letters and the word pops in,you have to use the semi-colon to enter the word/string of words you want, and there are two sections, phrases and just words. I may be making this sound complicated but really, it's not bad and it's not that hard to get used to surprisingly. You can email me if you have any questions.

be transferred. I had to manually transfer my thousands of autocorrects and it took me over 100 hours (and I'm not kidding), then my account runs out of work almost on a daily basis,then I get a second job, and then I might quit MQ altogether. Good luck to you!

purchasing Instant Text and then converted my SmarType into that and those work with DQS. It works fine. I'm still getting used to it but figure in the long run it's worth the money.

Anyone tried to convert SmarType files to the DQS platform? Supposedly mine werecopied, but then I was told we cannot use SmarType. Any help would be great.

Who told you you couldn't use ShortHand - somebody at MQ? Years ago they would only allow us to use Instant Text, which I bought but don't like.. Some expansion programs don't work with DQS (SmarType), but if you find one you like, they probably have a free 30-day trial so you can see if it works. ITHINK I tried ShortHnad and it worked, but I settled on ShortCut, which works great and is simple to use. They helped me transfer all my DQS expansions, and now I've turned off my DQS Expander and use ShortCut exclusively.

Has anyone heard of or tried IntelliComplete? It looks like the closest thing I've ever found to SmarType, with the text running along the bottom of the page as you type, and will complete the word you're typing. The websites are kind of confusing, and I'm not sure if it's a free download.

Shortcut question [2008-07-22]
After reading the directions for making an Expander in Shortcut for paragraphs while in DQS,I'm totally lost. It sounds way too complictated and time-consuming to be helpful. I'm used to block and save in the DQS expander.After all these years, I'm still grieving the loss of SmarType.

Not all expanders transfer, you have to check with your representative for (sm) [2006-04-11]
DQS and/or your Expander you now use. I was using SmarType but that could not be used with DQS. I now have Instant Text V which works well with it. You will need to use the expander that comes with DQS (as you create it because unless your DQS is different, it is blank other than headings) and whatever other expander you will have available.I'm typing almost the same an hour as I was when our DQS started back in October. I like it, though I would much prefer to use my old SmarType (not an option). I would recommend it to use in combination with what comes with DQS. I'm having to use it alone with my part time job (not DQS) and I find my line count is lower without having a second option. Again, I recommend it.

using SmarType for years and loving it. It is a bit complicated but has some really nice features. I need to do some studying to learn about the puzzling aspects of it.

I was making VERY good money before DQS. I can't use my SmarType (I know that hurts), but I still cannot believe how much less I'm making. I had to give up and go full time with another company and I'm going to work 10 hours a week with MQ. I was working like 12 hours a day to make what I made in six hours before DQS. It is unbelievable. Some people swear they make the same, but I know for a fact I don't and doubt I ever will.

New to DQS/expander question [2005-12-02]
I just had the two day training class. On cottage I have short cut and SmarType. Which ones if any is compatable with DQS. I sure would hate to loose my screen at the bottom for all the expansions I've made over the years. Is there anything compatable with DQS that has that neat screen down the bottom ? I just don't have the best memory for these kind of things... Thank you for any help... Donna

please, please, please. I have just spent at least a 100 hours doing this manually to DQS from SmarType and can't imagine doing it again back to word, as I'm actively looking for another job. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Shorthand may work too. ?? You might to register and search/ask around here to see if anyone can help you with info about possibly transferring over your SmarType expansions anyway. I used SmarType on the Cottage program and was told they couldn't transfer that over. I've been told here at MT Stars that Instant Text V Pro is compatible and according to the site they can incorporate my SmarType and then I'll have that. I'm hoping Instant Text won't be too hard to get used to and I'm hoping it works like everyone who posted says it does. I know I'm really not looking forward to a full day of DQS tomorrow. It took me 14 jobs to get 421 lines today and I have no ideahow long it took me to get that little bit. Thanks for all your responses.

such as PRD or Shortcuts? My TC said I could use these. Are they any differentor better than what comes with DQS? I use SmarType now and am going to lose it all because it won't transfer over. Thanks,
