No -- petty QAS not doing their jobs properly are the ones who ''need to relax'' [2008-09-01]
Your post is pretty much beside the point. Whether QA has ''control'' or not, whether points are taken off or not, any MT who experiences incorrect unnecessary nit-picking of her work has every right to be upset. Companies do not pay good money for QAS to impose their personal preferences to what was fine in the first place. They are to fill in blanks and correct errors that affect meaning. Not waste time abusing their position, playing wannabe school teacher. Any QA guilty of this is the one with the issues'' mentioned in the earlier post and the one who needs to ''relax''--NOT the MT. Any QAS guilty of this should face major consequences by their superiors as they are not only undermining/slowing down MTs (some with knowledge/experience exceeding that of QAS) who now are second-guessing themselves but they are also hurting their own company's reputation -- not many expert MTs would want to work for a company that lets its QA people run amok unchecked. And how many reports with REAL problems--blanks, errors that DO affect meaning--sit waiting while some QAS with issues wastes time imposing her own personal style preferences. QAS like the one mentioned above are just as guilting of hindering/keeping down the MT as any crooked MTSO and are also collecting a paycheck under false pretenses by not doing the job they were hired to do. So, no, it's not the MT who needs to relax it's the out-of-line QAS.

our jobs [2008-08-27]
Don't you love it when one of the MQ lackeys presumes to tell you what your job is - i.e. to take everything that the company dishes out without a whimper. If workers in the past had not been willing to stand up and fight we would still be working 14 hours a day in sweat shops (along with out children) behind locked doors vulnerable to death by fire and many other wonderful outcomes.

Abandoned Jobs, etc [2008-08-26]
Did everyone else get a generic-sounding msg about this? Sometimes it I certainly don I was told that the one and only way that can happen is if we actually use the abandon function. It would certainly be news to me if they had addressed it to just me. Just checking. Thanks.

Why Corporate Greed Is Shipping American Jobs Overseas [2008-08-19]
Check out: http://www.hachettebookgroupusa.com/books_9780446695091.htm I think this is pertinent for the MQ board; please leave it here for a while before you move it to the main board, since our company has been sold exactly as per the above article, to an offshore company. Thank you.

If a client returns a report to MQ, it goes on the MT file and is most definitely counted against an MT. Have several reports returned from the client for errors, and you can be dismissed. If QATL was just going over old reports that is a different story. But if job gets returned from the client because they were unhappy with it, its weighted heavily against the MT. Most accounts get refunds and credit for returned reports, so MQ does not consider it no big deal. You have your MT jobs and I have mine, and one should not just laugh at getting your work returned from the client.

Two part time jobs and no cesspool would be better than MQ cesspool. [2008-08-01]
I don't know how you make enough money reading client profiles from the pool and cut in ASR pay with two kids to support. I hope you find something before another cut in pay on ASR.

MQ is less secure than other MT jobs. Where are you getting your information? [2008-08-01]

Where are these other jobs? -sm [2008-07-10]
MQ is about drivingus into bankruptcy, but we desperately need the insurance due to my medical situation. I posted about some of these jobs on the company board, but no one is responding. Any responses are appreciated. Thank you.

it just came back on for me with 2 reserve jobs [2008-06-16]
only down a few minutes.

I have had other 2 jobs in the past years, neither of them worked out. [2008-06-06]
Fortunately, I stayed working part time at MQ. Don't leave MQ until you know how the other job pans out. With one job that I had last year, everything was great for 2 months. Then the work started dying down. I went from 800 lines in 4 hours to only getting 150-200 lines a day. After 4 months I quit.

MQ forced us to be employees now I see more and more jobs out there for IC. (sm) [2008-06-04]
Am I just paying more attention to other jobsnow (since the recent changes with MQ/CBay) or have there always been so many IC positions available? Am thinking for now I will continue with MQ part time and get an IC job to supplement it and pad my pocketbook against possible financial disaster if we do get replaced by our International Labor Partners, bless their little blood sucking hearts. Sorry if that sounds mean, I know they have a right to work, but.... charity begins at home. If they want to train and provide assistance to some of the people here in our own country that need it I would feel differently.

I think there are more IC jobs now than before [2008-06-04]
I guess because employers figured out it saves them money. You have to make quite a bit more money per line/per hour to make up for paying your own SS, no paid days off, no insurance, etc. Too many IC positions pay the same as employee positions, and those aren't worth it.

What gives? Now getting NO JOBS AVAILABLE msg. This is ridiculous. nm [2008-06-04]

Yes, I've noticed more IC jobs as well, and SE [2008-06-04]

With this talk of losing our jobs to India.... SM [2008-05-31]
I cannot seem to concentrate onworking. It all seems so fruitless to give your allwhen they are thinking about havingIndian MTs take over our jobs! I just cannot make any sense of it anymore. It makes me just want to quit so I don't have to worry about it.

Lotsa lotsa QA jobs open. Do you think [2008-05-30]
this is because MQ suddenly wants to focus on QA, or did a bunch of QA fly the coop?

Google

Leave if you are unhappy!! [2008-09-07]
That's what I keep thinking. If people are so unhappy, why don't they leave. They must enjoy complaining.I have worked with people like that before in jobs. They would not be happy if they could not complain. I previously worked for a company I didn't like and I just left. I did not spew negative comments about the company - I just quit!

You're right I ask myself that question just about every day sm [2008-09-07]
I work only flex parttime doing 2000 lines a week. I can't get another job making what I am making. Most of the jobs pay less nowadays and I am struggling on what I am making as it is. Would like to keep the same software as it is easy to use and really need to work more than 40 hours a week so a full-time position does not work either, need IC status and not everybody offers that. MQ used to be like that and used to pay for IP service, phone service and had very good incentive pay. That is not the case any more. All they worry about is how to address your emails to your supervisor, if you get a ticket for no jobs available or stupid piddly little stuff like that. You're right I should be gone. Just have not make the move yet. I'm slow I guess.

Outsourcing or off shoring it won't [2008-09-06]
matter for too much longer. Change is in the air and they aren't going to be allowed to send the American's medical records out of the country much longer. A lot the hospitals are already getting told by their patients that they don't want their medical records to leave the country and believe it or not a lot of hospitals are already asking the companies like MQ if they do, and they are not signing new contracts or even extending old contracts if they do. Also when the laws are changed that they no longer get a big tax break to send our jobs overseas we are going to finally have the ball back in our court so to speak. Believe what you want, but Americans need their jobs back here and most of us are not going to settle for our most personal information to be sent off shore, so I really hope the new CEO has experience in dealing with US MTs and how to keep them happy and working for him or there won't be any money coming in for him or his board of directors. Time will tell, but all of us just need to hang in there, CHANGE IS COMING and it's going to be on our side for a change because America is tired of our resources going somewhere else. The government is going to have to bring the jobs back to the US and there is no doubt about that.......HANG IN THERE WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER....

I love how MQ has come up with [2008-09-06]
words to make the MT look bad like padding and cherry picking, when most MT's do neither. I can remember when it was our job to use proper grammer and actually make the reports look professional instead of slang and clipped sentences. I have grandchildren in the first and second grades who can make a better sentence than most of these doctors, and now it is considered padding if we do that, and God forbid should we add anything like and, the,or to anything because then we are padding again...PLEASE our jobs are hard enough with the dictators not being told they have to speak English without MQ nit picking our work apart over these trivial things. Again the QA staff cannot agree on alot of this cr##, let alone for us to know exactly how to do it, but your right it's a hit and miss situation. On my CP all addendums are to be put in as a heading, but I have QA people who repeatedly take out the heading and just make a separate paragraph of them even though my CP specifically states to make them a heading, so go figure what your supposed to do, but again this has absolutely nothing to do with patient care or anything else except for they are so concerned about us adding 3 letters to a report that is otherwise so unprofessional its pathetic. Again if they would just let us do our jobs without finding ways to nit pick our work apart then maybe we would actually stand a chance of even making line count without our shifts ending up with the MTs being in tears all the time. We have enough to worry about and adding words like and, the, or to a sentence to make it read like it should, should not be what MQ is worried about.....JMHO...

i never was tested. I was acquired with another company [2008-09-05]
and I stay only because I haven't found another job. I'm not looking for another MT job. I believe in time it would turn out the same. I've been going to school part-time for the last 8 years and recently applied for two jobs through my school - a credit analyst and a collections specialist - neither are what i really want to be doing, but they both sound like decent enough jobs. A relative offered me job running a cash register in his store Friday, Saturday & Sunday night for minimum wage. I turned that down. I'm going to leave Medquist for a good job, not another piece of cr@p one that just like Medquist. I've also been taking tests with the state civil service, and I've down well on most of them. I'm at the top of the list in several jobs in several counties, so there is hope there. & they are really good paying jobs. If I could get an accounting job with the state, there is a good possibility that I could be making close to $100,000 per year by the time I hit retirement...oh... and then there is also the possibility that I would actually retire, which is not so apparent with this job.

My experience in the old days was the same. [2008-09-05]
Unfortunately AAMT was and has been busy trying to make the organization look big and important to others rather than focusing on and working for what the membership really needed - fair pay for good work and allowing us the time to do the job right rather than let the profession sink to quantity. I used to enjoy my job because the work was interesting and I was paid a decent wage. I have always taken pride in my important role in quality patient care and, in the end, the patients will always be my primary focus. Unfortunately, I find myself focusing more and more on finding a new profession because I am not being paid a decent wage anymore and just scraping along even though. I was a member for 13 years. During that entire time, the AAMT was busy trying to impress doctors with what our profession does for them, but too many doctors still don't get it and the bottom cash line rules their choices. The AAMT was busy designing and touting education requirements with dreams of needing a 2-year degree to be qualified to be hired. That never happened either. I remember when AAMT was pushing that transciptionists needed liability insurance. Since that time, the profession has pretty much gone to nearly absolute verbatim which drives me crazy at times. I took pride in assisting some doctors with making their reports readable and they appreciated that There were even some doctors who actually requested me and I felt proud about the quality of my work rather than just being a production number like I am now. The last straw for me regarding the AAMT was when work began going off shore and they have never appeared to have found for our jobs. Various off shore MTSO companies may claim they are HIPPA compliant, but, truth be told, HIPPA cannot be enforced beyond our shores. Remember the off shore Transcriptionist who held medical documents hostage with threats to publish them on the internet? US laws are difficult to enforce when the infraction has been committed in another company. The US can punish off shore companies who produce tainted products that do not meet safety requirements by denying entrance into the company, but the same is not true with patient medical documents.

If management is really reading [2008-09-04]
this board, and we know you are, how can you be reading these posts and not know what your doing to your staff??? Laugh now, but things are going to change. You won't be able to send our jobs out of the country for very much longer and you will need the US MTs to work for you and you won't have us. It will then be your turn to live with a lot less money and it will be your own fault.. If I were running this company I would certainly be trying to make the people who bring the money in a little happier because without us you don't have a company...

why don't we quit? [2008-09-04]
i was pondering this question as put forth in the thread below where some people are happy here, but so many of us are not. for me, first, i just wasn't willing to believe that things had gotten so bad. i kept holding out hope that things would swing back around and i'd get back to where i liked this job, that reaching my line count would get easy again, that there would be one day, just ONE day, where i didn't end up crying and hating everything. i just kept hoping. then, when the reality of the situation was just too glaring to ignore, i have gone through several periods of time, about 1 to 2 weeks worth, where i went crazy and applied to any and every job i saw. in the past 3 or 4 months i've sent my resume out at least 20 times. it seemed like i was applying to at least 5 jobs on a daily basis. i've had a couple of interviews, have started working part-time, as a 2nd job, with an MT work from home company that i really love, and am currently hoping and waiting for an interview at an actual office, outside of my home, as an MT. the process of looking and sending out resumes, and waiting, and then hearing and weeding out the jobs that won't work, and them weeding you out, and just the whole process, it seems to take forever. i imagine everyone here who is miserable working for MQ is in some phase of this same process - holding out hope, hating their job, but needing to work at home and not realizing there are alternatives until they get desperate enough to really start looking and finding out there are, looking and waiting and hoping. if this job i am currently holding out hope for doesn't pan out, i will be getting back into crazy mode again, and will go on the daily rampage of sending out resumes to any and every job i see. i'm not limiting myself to medical transcription, but am applying for anything medical, anything, as well as just regular old secretarial jobs. these are not jobs that i would really like, nor do i really want to have to drive any great distance to work, but right now i am willing to drive an hour to a job that pays me decently and treats me like a valued employee. i still am not willing to give up on thinking that jobs like that exist. medquist just doesn't happen to be one of them.

ShortHand [2008-09-03]
I use ShortHand with DocQScribe and it works fine, and I have never been told not to use it. I HAVE been told not to at my second job, and it was because it was not compatible with the red headings -- -- so I just don't have my headings saved in ShortHand. as far as why use your own shortcut program instead of the company's -- it's because they're yours and if you change jobs you get to keep them. if you had all your shortcuts stored in the Medquist program and you change jobs, they're gone and you start from scratch.

they hire u for 10cpl; i've been w/them for years & I get 7 cpl [2008-09-03]
it's just so freaking lovely. I think I'll go apply for another job now - it's what i've been doing, but one more can't hurt - and NONE of them are transcription jobs. I want to be out of this for good.

is anyone else out of work today? [2008-09-01]
scheduled to work but no jobs to download.

don't know anything about PT flex but [2008-09-01]
I would keep checking back for work if you want to work tonight. I had no jobs this morning but kept checking back and eventually jobs came in for me. I have completed my full 8 hours today. I didn't want to have to use PTO or make up time next weekend though.

they should ask for volunteers... this will be my first Christmas and New Years off in 8 years, (sm) [2008-08-30]
but I usually work it as I don't have any family here. I don't mind it at all. I'd rather have 4th of July off or something like thatAnd yes, I usually get no jobs throughout the day but I expect it and then I can go on a hike and check back or read for a while or whatever. I think asking for volunteers - I think they would be adequately covered, the people that want to work can and that would make everyone happy. I am sure the accounts would stay in turn.

LABOR DAY, work or not to work that is the question???? [2008-08-29]
On one hand they want us all available for the hurricane relief, now asking if we want to use our PTO on Labor day? Wasup? I am not using my PTO for time I can not be on vacation or sick. Provide me work or let me go, I do not care if I am paid as I would rather have the fantastic, one of the last days of summer to go out on river and to actually know ahead of time would be nice so I could make some plans and not have to sign in on Mondaymorning to find NO JOBS AVAILABLE, call 1-800-go @*^*^$ yourself and no one to answer or give a ticket number because they are so busy because of holiday weekend and allare out of work. What do they want? I am so confused, but will be right here on Monday morning to see what is up in the cesspool, but I will not sit by this stupid box waiting for work to come in. I am saving my PTO for my fall VACATION,not because they have no work to provide for me and force me to take it.We especially here at MQ NEEDa vacation, as vacatuibs actually make aperson more productive, studies have shown that again and again.I HAVE A LIFE OTHER THAN MEDQUIST!!!!!! They can have me 40 hours a week, but then it is MY time. Maybe looking for reasons to get rid of me as I am taking a week off anyway no matter what in October, have reservations and down payment not losing. This is bull crap with a capitalS. On way out of thisdog and pony show.

Me too! [2008-08-29]
Your story is so similar to mine. I quit MQ about 9 years ago and when i was leaving they finally offered me a raise, but I declined, but came back because they made me a better offer 7 years ago and still have not received a raise, have asked but not good enough, I see that my 100% is not good enough! Well, one more week with the Q and I'm outa here! Go to indeed.com and look up medical transcription jobs, you will be amazed, as was I.

Yes, every holiday [2008-08-29]
that I have worked, there have been next to nil primary account jobs and out into the cesspool I go. Every time a few days before the holiday my manager says the volumes will go up big before the holiday and there will be plenty of work on the holiday because of all the other people who got the holiday off, and every holiday, same old, same old doesn't happen. Too much crying wolf. I would rather hear the truth. I would have less resentment regarding working holidays if I was told the truth.

so sad [2008-08-29]
it makes me just want to cry. i used to love being a medical transcriptionist, was proud of it. after these 2 yrs with medquist, like you, i want to tell anyone considering getting into this to do anything but. but...in my distress, i have been applying for jobs, found a good part-time one which i just love, and am finding out that Medquist is the devil, and they aren't all like this. a lot are very similar, but some are good. i'm just guessing here, but i'm thinking that companies like medquist, the BIG MT companies, who offer benefits and have thousands of MTs employed, are the ones that are the hardest to work for. it may just be the nature of the beast. i'm not defending them. i'm completely planning on not still being here come my 2 year anniversary with them in just 6 weeks away from now. but i think you have to find the smaller companies, and find a way to not need benefits, or find your health insurance elsewhere, to find a place that has a heart and respects and appreciates you. i think it must be hard for everyone who works for MQ, the QA people, our supervisors, us.all the rules and regsjust make it harder and harder for anyone to be productive. i've been preaching the Obama thinking for a long time now, that one has to start from the bottom and work up, not from the top down, to truly shine as a place that functions on a level where everyone benefits. unfortunately, that has not been the corporate way, with a very few exceptions, and even those exceptions end up going big (i'm thinking ben and jerry's and a couple of other progressive minded companies). anyway....its just sad. i hope they wake up, but i don't see it happening any time soon. hang in there everyone.

something similar [2008-08-27]
I have not worked for a couple of weeks now, but I was noticing very frequently that I would get emails about my primary account being backed up, yet I kept getting jobs from other accounts that were pretty crappy. I emailed my supervisor many times about this. Sometimes it would get fixed before my shift ended and sometimes not. It might be a conspiracy. I think a lot of it has to do with technical malfunctions. I know the couple of times my supervisor actually replied to me it quickly it was fixed. Like I said, I no longer work for MQ, but while I did there were times that I emailed my supervisor URGENT, left messages for her through her MQ voicemail, and left messages for her on her cell and still didn't get a response sometimes for days. She was really nice and I liked her a lot.. I think some of the supervisors are overloaded though. That was the feeling I got from her anyway. Sorry to get off track there for a sec. Next time this happens to you I would recommend emailing your supervisor, MQ voicemail, cell, and contacting the technical department. I would also copy the email to myself so that you have proof you tried to contact your supervisor. One of the reasons I quit though was because I kept getting really crappy accounts other than my primary and was not able to make my line rate when this happened. Not only do you have to read a new client profile every time, but then you usually also get crappy dictators.

End of session [2008-08-27]
You are supposed to click on the little end of session box for the next to last job that you do--this way only one job will show up at the top right hand side of your DQS screen instead of two. It seems that when there are 2 jobs available for you and you just log off the second job does not get transcribed in a timely fashion, and I think it looks like you abandoned it. Hope this helps.

again, amen [2008-08-27]
today, i am just going to laugh at this person who continuously defends MQ and their sweatshop, don't give a heck about the MT, mentality. the other day, i kind of lost it, and to the moderator and others, i apologize. it isn't just newbies who will miss that example given. i've been doing this for more than 20 years and can tell you that i could and would miss it. if i was allowed to take the time necessary to produce a quality report,i wouldn't. but sitting here with MQ standing behind me with the virtual whip, slave-driving me to produce a certain amount in a certain amount of time, threatening me with job loss, well, i don't think so...more and more is going to be missed under those circumstances. it is going to be very soon when i will be able to come in here and do the happy dance because i've given my notice. the part-time MT jobi have, which is heaven to MQs hell, have informed me they would be thrilled to have me full-time, and while it is an IC job with no benefits, honestly, at this point, i just don't care. i'll be happier and healthier working for people who understand the nature of the job and care about their employees. Medquist has no clue how to do our jobs nor how to treat their employees in a way that would produce productive and loyal employees. i feel sorry for them, much as i feel sorry for those of you who defend them.

My guess is... [2008-08-27]
they are going to start cracking down on those abandoning jobs, and they can't completely distinguish (or it's too hard to) between letting them go when you sign out versus straight--out abandoning.

TS told me [2008-08-27]
The only way a job can be abandoned is to manually select the function. I had a question about it awhile back and specifically asked. Those who have been abandoning jobs know who they are, as does mgmt. My guess is that they send this out every quarter or so to remind everyone that we'll all be held accountable when caught doing so. It may be that those who are doing this will change their cheatin' ways.

That's not what I was told. [2008-08-27]
I was told that you receive 2 jobs at a time--you always see 2 jobs when you upload. In order for the second job to go back into the pool in a timely manner, to keep TAT, you must check the EOS box when uploading the next to last job you do--at that point you will only see 1 job at top. Then after you transcribe that job, EOS still being checked, you can log off. You are correct though that it will look as though you abandoned the job if you do not have EOS checked.

Thanks.

oops. i meant alt+e, or just clicking the box with mouse. sm [2008-08-26]
i still get jobs sometimes. makes no sense.
