Put the repeated errors in your word expander [2008-10-10]
Since ASR does not learn, just add an x or whatever after the error with the Expander recognizing that and putting what's correct in. Your expander will recognize phrases not just words, so if ASR always get its wrong saying with the patent in the torso lithotomy position you can cut and paste that phrase in your expander, add an x onto position (positionx) and the whole phrase gets replaced.

I heard the same thing. The word is that they are [2008-10-06]
not at all happy with the quality of the work. Time will tell. As for me, I'm hangin' in.

Today I actually had to type the F word SM [2008-09-23]
in a report as it was a direct quote from the patient on a psychiatric discharge summary. It felt funny and looked even worse, but I was told any direct quote must be typed verbatum.

I wonder why ASR loves the word penis so much [2008-09-17]
The phrase He had achiness in his groin was interpreted by ASR as He had a penis in his groin. Dictator was very clear. Wonder if the ASR programmers are having a little fun with MQ and us.

love the word stagnating [2008-09-12]
That word seemed to resonate throughout about the salaries, about sums it up. We are lucky if we can just keep making the same amount we made last year, forget raises or increased production. Also, did you catch at the end that 58.9% of MTs type for multiple doctors/hospitals- how about everyone at MQ! The report also stated that gasp! once MTs learn dicators they become more proficient with those dictators and should be allowed to continue to work with them. Get rid of the cesspool! My favorite paragraph was they at least acknowledged that it is hard to type with so many different protocols (think CPs) in place. Finally a little recognition! However, in the end this study will do nothing to improve our jobs. ASR is not going to go away as much as we want it to and we will be lucky if our wages don't stagnate any further. Thanks for the article though. I am surprised AHDI published such as a negative report, I would have expected it to be all positive and endorsing the companies who in turn fund AHDI.

In a word, no. [2008-09-10]
It would be US against THEM. On the other hand, maybe if we actually knew each other as human beings, we'd be more civil, but I wouldn't bet on it!

Is Docuscribe word based? [2008-09-05]
As in little manipulation, you can use autocorrect for word expander? Thanks for your help as considering MedQuist.

Shorthand word expander [2008-09-03]
Is anybody using ShortHand at MedQuist? When I was hired I was told I could use it and now I am told I cannot. What's the deal????

Shorthand word expander [2008-09-03]
I have used this for over 10 years and have 6 dictionaries with all my expansions. I need this for productivity and really do not want to start all over again if I can help it.

Shorthand word expander [2008-09-03]
Thanks so much for the info.

Reread my post -- did you see the word [2008-08-25]
quit? I don't think so. I said that if you are fired, you won't collect. Let me rephrase that: If you are fired for not following the rules, you probably won't collect. Like that better? As for the pot or the kettle, neither since I don't work for MQ. If you know so much about the law, why are working at MQ?

another word - beware [2008-08-23]
There is also a lot of incorrect info to be found that way. You will often find different spellings for the same word! I say good reference books - no substitute for them.

As far as getting better at your job..i have one word [2008-08-22]
Google phrases...google to check spellings, etc. You would be surprised what comes up. You do have to confirm web sites are valid resources (some are patient websites and you get a lot of misspellings). The other way to get better at this is simply to work at it...

TOO LAZY TO EVEN PUT A WORD [2008-08-17]
GET OFF YOUR RUMP

Per cent not a word, unless its referring to money. [2008-08-12]
See Book of Style 2, pages 308 to 310 for clear details of when to use % versus percent. I hope nobody changed to per cent on you. Oh my.

I too am leaving. Will need word expander - help sm [2008-08-08]
One of the drawbacks of moving to a new platform. I will need a word Expander and, yes, I'll have to put everything back in, but it's a small price to pay to finallyget away. Any suggestions? I have tried Shorthand, but don't care for it. I've looked at FastFox which looks good, but just wanted to know if anybody had any suggestions. It must work with Vista. Thank you!

Word Expander [2008-08-08]
I've used Short Cut for many years and like it a lot. It works with any program. I have over 5000 entries. I have recently purchased Instant Text to see if it will help even more as it does a few more things. I definitely recommend using an outside word Expander as that way you can take your short forms anywhere if you change jobs and not be stuck re-creating your word list. Both programs are available at www.sylvansoftware.com

How do I save my word expanders? sm [2008-08-07]
I'm getting a new computer. Will the Expanders already be loaded when I sign in to DocQScribe or will I have to find them in my program files? TIA!

Just a guess, but the word "we" generally [2008-07-31]
stands for more than 1 person. So, after you told me to go away, you referred to everyone, as in 'we'... Get it?? I doubt it! Ah, there I go, spreading doom again, though, and jumping to conclusions!

Word issues [2008-07-28]
My training is to type as dictated, even on a not-strict account. That's not a horrible word. Perhaps a little unprofessional, but kind of cute. We all know which docs have small children, don't we...Before I became QA, a QA person told me to put half quotes, but I'm not sure that's still the rule. I wouldn't worry about this.

I do not think you get it. I do research. The term might just be a common word [2008-07-16]
that the dictatordid not pronouce clearlyor ASR did not pick up. I Google quite a bit to save QA time. My blanks are not medical terms for the most part.

You are taking MQ word for it. They are a dishonest company. That is a fact. [2008-07-15]
This is all going to proof and justification that ASR is getting better and therefore they can cut that rate AGAIN. Didn't you learn anything about MQ since last July when they cut ASR rate and threw everyone in the cesspool, justifying it that too many MTs were running out of work and ASR was allowing us to become 30% more productive. Wake up and smell the MQ coffee but do not drink the Koolaid they offer you.

I read it to humor them. If I could not hear the phrase or word, [2008-07-15]
the odds are I will never get the same dictator, phrase and word again thanks to the cesspool. My feeling about QA feedback is whatever. Sometimes I just mark them as read without reading them. Sometimes I read them just to see if QA is stumped too. Whatever.

Agreed...Stedman's Word Books are a MUST HAVE! sm [2008-07-09]
One of the few benefits we have here is the ability to buy these books at a discount and have them deducted from our pay. Over time, you can build an extensive library full of reliable info. They are a great confidence builder for all MTs.

Word expansion files [2008-07-07]
Does anyone know where to find the filefor word Expander in DocQscribe? I lost my instructions and need to find this file in my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Google

No ASR suddenly [2008-10-11]
Hi, I have the totally opposite situation. I was getting 90 to 100% ASR and now suddenly for the past 10 days or so, with the same accounts, I get 90% MT and 10% ASR. Wish I could trade with somebody as I prefer ASR.

Medquist....fed up with them! [2008-10-11]
Why don't all of you send Medquist packing? I'm so tired of hearing about the problems you MTs are having with them!

Is Monique your real name [2008-10-11]
If it is I apologize, but I have never, ever heard that name mentioned here before. I sent a private e-mail to someone and unintentionally signed my name to the note, and now it shows up here. If you are not Monique, please don't use that name here, as it could be misconstrued by MQ as being a complainer. Thanks.

I think you're right, QA wrong [2008-10-10]
While it's conceivable some CPs don't require this to be changed, as a rule of thumb, it should be changed. Don't sweat the correction. QA isn't perfect.

Medquist is actually great training for other jobs [2008-10-10]
Handling the Medquist cesspool has one great benefit: When you quit it's easy to adjust to the new account you get. Plus, even if you get a penny or less per line, you're happy because you aren't getting robbed by ASR. I live way out in the country (bears in the backyard once in a while). If you're a good Transcriptionist you don't need to wrap yourself in a city. You can work.

me too [2008-10-10]
I don't have any Worker's Comp issues with MedQuist, but I too have been waiting over 8 weeks for my COBRA information. I have contacted them multiple times to no avail. I also have been waiting this amount of time for shipping labels to return their equipment. These too were promised. I refuse to spend my own money to send back the equipment. On a side note, I did work for Medquist for 17 years, put in a two week notice which I worked until the last second of my shift, and never received any kind of acknowledgement that I had resigned. Oh, I take that back, one call from supervisor left on my answering machine to call her, which I did, only to get her answering machine. No exit interview, no thanks for your service, just pretty much don't let the door hit you on the way out. There is life after the Q and it is SO much better! I actually love my job again. Good luck getting what you deserve.

They never picked on me [2008-10-10]
In fact for several years after they took over, when they still had regional offices, I used to work only 6-1/2 hours a day. I did 1200 lines a day and hung up. My supervisor at the time didn't care. Granted, I was cranking it during those 6-1/2 hours, more or less. Back then we sent in our time cards by mail or filled them out in advance, it was loose. Okay, so when they got rid of the regional offices and had the online time clock, yes I had to sit there during working hours. Actually I went through a period where I decided (before ASR) to really make money and worked liked a banshee for about a year, paying off bills, taking a vacation to Europe, really surprising myself with how much I could do. Then came ASR, and I found myself surfing the web all day between reports. I was just too p.o.'d to get into it anymore. I couldn't make money like before, and I couldn't do the minimum and hang up. And then when they started saying their computer could only be used for work, I really got irritated and I quit. Now I work somewhere with no ASR, no time clock and I'm back to really working again. If you let Medquist make your life miserable, you'll be miserable. Medquist is a terribly flawed company without any prospects if they don't manage to get their slave shop working in India. I recommend you quit. You'll be doing yourself and the craft of transcription a favor.

DQS vs Ovation [2008-10-10]
Ovation is a different beastie from DQS. Ovation is a tool that is used on both ends of the dictation and transcription (i.e. the Docs use the Dictation part, the MT's use the Transcription part). The thing about Ovation is that it links patient data into the document. Not say into the TEXT of the document, but into the document's internals. Ovation doesn't have a built in text Editor like DQS does. It is strictly a job download/upload tool. MQ is not going away from DQS or Ovation.

Something similar happened to me [2008-10-10]
about a year ago. All of a sudden, I started getting slop work with NO primary for over 2 weeks. I emailed my PS continually. I got fed up and quit. My PS then called me and told me that my work pools had been changed and she had no idea how this happened. I left for 3 months and then MQ called and begged me to come back once again. It sounds like maybe your work pools have been changed? I would definitely call my PS and if you cannot get an answer, then request her to call you back. When she calls you back, simply ask her point blank why this is happening. Good luck.

REPLY [2008-10-10]
Are you serious that MQ was bought out? Why do I work here and don't know a thing about it? I don't get it.

Don't you get tired of beating that drum [2008-10-10]
I'm sure there are some transcriptionists who abuse their time for MQ but the bizarre part is where they want you to rigidly adhere to your schedule, but then if they run out of work, they want you to be flexible and work other hours. It's a 2-way street; if they want us to be chained to our desks for those hours, when they don't have work available or have a problem with their system, they need to pay us. They claim they will, but just try getting it. In March when the system was down for over 2 days, they decided to call it one incident and limit our down time pay to no more than 8 hours. Then, of course, we were supposed to bust our hump to get them caught up again.

I hear you [2008-10-10]
I have a few great places I'm going to check out. Do not listen to the others who bash you for venting what is the truth. I am fed up with this lying corporation. You can find another job online, dear. They are out there. How many years exp do you have? I too am getting up there and have no 401k and MQ wanted 2 wks of pay for medical, heck no. this is what corps are like, dear. Hang in there. There are jobs out there, whether in Kansas or CA. Get your CV together and look them up. Good luck, honey.

before MQ took away Indp Contractor status [2008-10-10]
I had two accts. I was so good at them, I once did 850 lines in less than 3 hrs. The Truth. Now I have to fight for 150. I just had 37 blanks on a fricking Eastern Indian area dialect doctor, and good luck to the QA. I do my best and that is all I can do, but I swear, I'm sending out my CV and calling. My family is starving and I am DONE. I am TOO OLD for this BS cotton picking BS. And MQ does NOT care.

voice recognition [2008-10-10]
Hi, My name is Ryan McShane. I am doing research on voice recognition and how it has effected the medical transcription industry. Could you please answer the following questions. I would love to speak to a Transcriptionist about the subject. My phone number is 617-224-1212 Do you do transcription with speech recognition? Transcriptionist Does speech recognition make your job easier? How much training was required to use speech recognition? Explain the process? Front end or back end?

Your right, MQ same name, different owner [2008-10-10]
CBay Holdings who now have 69.5% ownership interest. My claim was filed on the same day that this purchase agreement took place. August 6,2008. Everything for my WC claim has also worked like a clock, and it is due to a competent, on-the-ball claims woman at AIG. I never said anything different or had a complaint about my claim. The point of the post was that she has not heard a word from anyone at MQ about her inquiries since being able to originally determine that I had actually been their employee. Thankfully, this is one system that has not been tied up just because MQ is a disaster.

speech recognition [2008-10-10]
Go to ahdionline.org/scriptcontent/index.cfm and read 2007 Bentley College MT Survey Read the entries in this forum regarding ASR and you will see how much SR is (not) helping and is costing us income. The executives think we can do 1/3 more work and thus cut our pay by 1/3, but SR + editing, in my experience, with the numerous corrections and time spent formatting, which would normally be done as I type, and the time spent moving through the document to do this, is not faster and too many times slower. Stellar SR results are needed, but that is not the state of the art at this time. The training necessary to edit the SR output is years of study and experience as a medical transcriptionist. Without our hard-earned knowledge, a good, proper and accurate record cannot be created. Editing numerous SR documents in a day is also leading to a a whole new crop of repetitive motion injuries.

This is so true [2008-10-09]
We DO NOT get paid for ADT information that we used to on any platform before DQC. For me, that was using the C-phone..not sure what the platform was called...but whatever it was...we did get paid for those entries. No more. Just one more thing taken away.

production work [2008-10-09]
I hope I don't get pounced on here, and I am truly just another MT at the Q, but when you talk about working a production job, you are talking about the standards under which you are paid as a contrast to a job where you work a certain number of hours and what is produced is not or cannot be measured. This does not mean that it does not matter when you work. At the other end of our job is the client with the need for the product and the ability to choose a contractor that suits their needs. In this business TAT is King with accuracy Queen. Imagine yourself as an independent contractor to a hospital and here is your proposal: My staff are flex staff, so I won't know when they are actually going to work. When they do work, they may start late or leave early because of other commitments. In order to meet your TAT and keep your business, we will offer incentives during your heavy use times, which my employees with then complain affect their ability to meet production after the incentive is over. It does not really matter that YOUR needs change - it only matters that my employees get exactly the kind of work when they want it, and that they can choose to do the work (or not do the work) when they please. I cannot imagine why more hospitals are not beating down my door with a proposal like that. Integrity: Doing what is right even when no one is looking. It also goes a long way towards job security.

call supe that's what I did [2008-10-09]
Mine was recently changed too and I had to call and find out what was going on. They actually had lost my account and didn't want the MTs to know because they didn't want a bunch of people leaving at the same time. Work slowly trickled down to nothing, no word from anyone. Priorities are mixed up for sure- got to keep people from leaving!! Don't worry about common professional courtesy, just keep working, we'll find you something to work on. Boo!

Don't get me started [2008-10-09]
Every time that phone rings from the IR, it's like suddenly sucking on a sour lemon. I vowed to myself I was not going to answer the phone if they called me again while I was on the clock. This has happened to me so many times I've lost count. A couple of days ago they caught me by surprise and I answered it without thinking. I had already checked the logoff icon and only had one more short report to do. I was so annoyed and I asked the woman why are you calling me while I'm working. I explained that our Keystrokes and time it takes us to do a report are monitored, our supervisors send out msgs and hints about not answering a phone call, etc., so why would you want to interrupt me and keep me from doing my job. She stuttered a little bit. It was obvious I must have taken her by surprise too with my questions. Come to find out, she thought I was supposed to be working for another hour, when in fact it was time for my shift to end. So, yes, we are being monitored right and left, with absolutely no slack, but evidently the right doesn't know from the left what is going on. If they're going to this, they at least need to keep the schedules of everybody they call right in front of them and not harrass employees who are doing it right!

Anyone else?..... [2008-10-09]
fed up with this crap?? MQ drives you to the brink of suicide. All they do is B___H about how terrible employees we are!!!! There are too many reference guides to check to satisfy them. Let alone pay us crap. Can't buy groceries, and forget about heating our house. MQ, do you know how hard it is to type with cold fingers!! Oh that's right, you DON'T CARE!!!! Work your employees to death...literally. Have to work 6 or 7 days a week to comply with your rules. I'm sure, you SUITS are living high on the hog...just like the AIG ppl. Enjoy your day at the spa, while the rest of us starve to death!!!!! And for those of you saying to get a different job and leave, do you even have a clue about the current job market....it's nil in rural America. Change jobs only to be low man on the totem pole and be laid off in the end. I'm told old for all this crap!!

It's all their business [2008-10-09]
When your logged on to work with any computer, your time is being tracked for how long you are on each report, when you are tabbed out of DQS (IE Google searching), errors, QA markers.....yes, everything is being gathered and stored, and yes, it can come back to bite you in the butt.

fired! [2008-10-09]
Yes, I was fired two weeks after filing for Worker's Compensation. I can't tell you why this happened just after filing, but they looked into my e-time and DQS time and they did not correlate well enough. If your looking for more info or want to share, send a private e-mail please! Would love to hear from you!

MORE BLANKS, NO RAISE [2008-10-09]
I just left MQ after 13 years because they said I left too many blanks and they said it did not matter whether my blanks were filled in or not! That if we have more than 15% (15% of what or how they figured that they did not say), that we do not qualify for a raise. How about that for ridiculous>!
