Just the fact that they asked her is wrong. [2008-12-01]
How to handle it? What's that supposed to mean? She is supposed to work for free? Don't think so... They should have told her up front that were some dictations on there that have been transcribed. They ought to be organized enough to know what they gave her on the flash drive.
And, how nice to give it to her on a holiday weekend? Wasn't that sweet? NOPE!
Can you tell I've been burnt? Because I have. I transcribed for 3 months with no payment. So, please be careful what you say is just this one time because it never turns out that way.
Wow! Is that what's wrong with me lately? [2008-11-22]
I'm on the computer from 4 a.m. to sometimes 6 p.m. I don't get headaches, but sometimes I just want to upchuck, and sleepy. I'm forever falling asleep while working lately. No matter how much sleep I get at night, I still fall asleep during the day.
Thanks for the info.
Wrong.... [2008-11-18]
As an IC, you treat each voice file as a job that you decide to take or not on a daily basis. Any MTSO requiring a shift is fraudulent. They can't have it both ways. If they have work that requires an MT work a certain shift, then they need to hire employees.
As an IC, I have a right to take or not take work on any particular day, which in fact I do on a daily basis with a company that knows THE TRUE MEANING of IC.
Many MTs are accepting IC jobs and making it their full-time job (as if they are an employee/but have no benefits) and then claiming there is no work. As an IC the MTSO does not have to provide work to you. As an employee, the MTSO must provide the work or pay you downtime as an employee.
An IC is abused in this field on a daily basis.
Did you know that most ICs work for more than one vendor? Most ICs do not put all of their eggs in one basket, which is why it is wrong for an MTSO to require full-time hours for an IC when in fact an IC names their own hours.
Sorry to stomp on your toes here, but I can already tell you are an MTSO that likes to abuse ICs.
You are not wrong [2008-11-15]
Sorry to tell you, you are not wrong. The longer you work this job, the worse it gets. The sitting for long periods, the awful pay, theawful dictators. I was just talking to the team lead at one of my jobs about how slow it is and if you are not making your line count during your shifthow can that be our fault and she said the company now expects everyone to work daily until they reach their line counts, so if we work 12 hours a day 7 days a week then that is just the way this field is now and basically too bad. I'm going back to school.
Then I am wrong and it is Editscript that works only with a serial port, sorry! nm [2008-11-04]

Sorry, but you are wrong -Medinotes is an EMR platform!
YOU MISS THE POINT. THAT IS NOT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MT WORLD TODAY!.. [2008-10-16]
gosh I never thought anything was WRONG with my bf [2008-10-15]
I always just knew men are warmer than women for the most part. He is 28 now and is like my heater in the winter, but during the summer it sounds exactly like your husband with the sweating. However this only occurred when we moved to the high desert a couple of years ago. He started soaking the sheets like he peed the bed! Don't worry it may just be he sweats a lot. Does he sleep with blankets on?
What I did in order to stay in the same bed was i just made like a little barrier in between us. I mean, it's not the best idea, but if you still want to know he's there, at least you won't be touching the sweatiness. I used pillows...
hope everything is okay
sorry, but you are wrong [2008-10-07]
Thank you!!!!! I am a court reporting student making the switch to medical transcription. I am planning on attending M-Tec. I see so many negative and mean posts. Everyone seems so unhappy with the business. It's nice to see someone say that the way to make good money is to work hard at it. I'm used to it. Court reporting isn't a piece of cake. Some of the posts make me think that medical transcription isn't worth the effort. Thanks for your post...it was encouraging!

There's nothing wrong w/ honesty, it's the nasty [2008-10-04]
rude, mean, demeaning and downright vicious comments that we're talking about. Just because it's not all rosy lucratiive doesn't mean you can't offer a nice word of encouragement. Why step all over someone's dream just because your dream didn't come true with this industry? Maybe it's not all about the money. Maybe someone is going into this field in order to be at home with their family. You can be honest without being nasty and rude, that's the whole point here. Be honest, tell it like it is, but for heaven's sake, KEEP IT FRIENDLY.
Guess I was wrong. That mt poster is STILL a raving lunatic. [2008-10-04]

Wrong profession? [2008-10-03]
I know there was a post about this yesterday, but I did not want to taker hers over. I am just wondering if I can really do this. I have been doing this 3 years and have been at the same company. I just got back 5 reports this morning that just have me almost in tears. Granted, some of my mistakes were stupid and should not have been made. But, others that were sent back to me I really have issues with. Some of the mistakes were not typing Jane Doein the report instead of typing the patient, which directly goes against my account instructions. Also, was told not to expand an abbreviation in the diagnosis section because my account is verbatim. I just do not agree with this!!!! Plus, had different instructions on the same thing. The QA is totally inconsistent, and let theQA manager know what I thought of some of their changes.
I do think that I am a good MT. I have a new position starting with a great company soon, and I just want to know that I really can do this!!! Any advice??
good luck trying to explain this to her, so far she has denied being wrong and has [2008-10-03]
nm
Sometimes QA is wrong. [2008-10-03]
Well, my intention is to present this in a positive light, so I hope it comes across that way.
QA can give you poor advice and send back inappropriate corrections. If they conflict with the account instructions you have, you can ask for clarification. You might tactfully ask if there has been an update to the account instructions since your version of (date), which specifies substitution of the patient within the document, etc.
You will get differing opinions on whether to write the patient or the patient's name in a report, depending on what type of transcription you are doing. Office dictation often goes with the actual patient name. Hospital dictation, however, often requires that the patient's name be replaced with the patient due to concerns about inadvertent disclosure of patient identity when reports are released in situations that require deidentification. It's very difficult to deidentify within documents--names are often missed.
Other hospitals may need for the patient name to be in the first line or so of the report in order that the body of the report can be linked with the electronic header in an EHR.
Regarding abbreviations, you just kind of have to go with the flow on those. While it might make you uncomfortable to use abbreviations in diagnosis lists, if you are asked to do that, just get it in writing. The account specifics should say to do it that way. If that's what the client insists upon, it's THEIR responsibility.
I don't think that you should concern yourself with thoughts that you might not be cut out to do MT. They're not really warranted by the errors you described here. Focus your attention on the real errors until you can control those. Just go with the account specifics on the other issues, or at least resolve the problem with QA even if it means going higher.
When you get to the new company, you might find that things will improve. In the meantime, look at the real errors and figure out a way to ensure that they never happen again. Determine WHY you made them and take specific action that will prevent a reoccurrence. Concrete, realistic actions are better than just trying harder. Good intentions are great, but it's a lot easier to just figure out a way to prevent the error so that you don't have to waste effort in unfocused trying hard.
Don't worry yourself about it. Yes, it's frustrating to get the QA back, but once your initial upset is over, let it go. :)
Headers/templates wrong [2008-10-02]
Anyone else have the problem of the proper headers/templates not coming up and wonder why the proper docs aren't informed and why we have to correct it by clicking and pasting?!
that is very wrong. [2008-09-25]
I've never had to work like that before. How can they require 40 hours actual typing time? Transcription is much more than actual typing time. There's research, listening for a co-worker, even at home I get IM'd for help. What company does this to their transcriptionists?
That is definitely wrong! No way does anyone in any job have 100% of their time straight production [2008-09-25]

yes I know I spelled criticism wrong... [2008-09-25]
don't shoot me!!!
I think the QA people are dead wrong [2008-09-24]
if they get upset over what they consider too many blanks. Of course they're right about not guessing, but obviously they're sending you mixed signals by not wanting you to leave blanks either.
I'm a former MT who is now an Editor and I get a lot more upset over not enough blanks than with too many. I don't think there's even such a thing as too many blanks if you're dealing with a jerky doctor who can't be understood and doesn't care enough to take a few extra minutes to speak distinctly.
I'll often receive work that contains obvious mistakes, but the dictation is so bad that I can't with any certainty make a correction. When that happens, I take out what I know wasn't said and replace it with a blank.
I wish I had an answer for your situation. But please know that not all of us editors are like those you're having to deal with.
whats wrong with being happy sm [2008-09-15]
they got caught? That is one thing wrong with this industry. It has turned into productiononly, nobody cares about quality and they want to screw you out of money. If her skills are good they know it and they will need them. If this gives her bargaining power and she wants to go back, so be it. It would be hard for me, but if I wanted and needed the job I would suck it up and go back. They aren't going to do this crap again. If everyone would turn these people in, then this junk would stop. I take great delight in the fact that places are finally getting caught for cheating people. They should.

Sorry-sorry-sorry, wrong program. [2008-09-03]
I mean MedRite expansions. (have switched gears for the night and still in the wrong one!). Thank you!!
You're both right and you're both wrong. [2008-08-28]
There are too many variables to give an accurate--or even estimated--count. Using a standard 1-inch margin, you may have short lines and lots of paragraphs and get a lower count. If no paragraphs and it's a full page of text from margin to margin, you get your higher count. You can't possibly use an average count because of variables, which is why no one can commit to a pat answer.
I don't think you can get the pedal to do that, but may be wrong. sm [2008-08-20]
I had that problem a long time ago. For some reason, I had to use my media player for my voice files and the pedal would not work. I had to use my cursor to FF, REV, etc. It was a major pain in the backside. If someone knows how to fix your problem, I would like to know too in case it happens again. Good Luck.
You know the [2008-12-03]
old saying, give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile . . . you have given them their inch already. I don't believe they would be able to find someone else to do that for them at no charge, do you? I'm sure she is being paid for the time that she works, be it by the hour or salary.
I know how it feels to want to keep an account of your own, especially under the circumstances you mentioned in your last post, but I do not think you should continue to help out for free. It's not fair, and more than that it is abuse. I would probably try to find a nice way of letting her know that you do want the account, but cannot afford the time to help out for free. Maybe say something like, when you determine which ones you need to have transcribed, give me a call and I can pick up the drive and list of those done right away.
There's nothing wrong with keeping a list of transcribed patients to let them know which ones you transcribed, IMHO, but if there are some that they do not want you to transcribe then they need to let you know which ones they are. I have a sneaking suspicion that with the last ones she gave you, she knew some had been done and did not have time to figure that out beforehand, and did not even mention that to you until afterwards. They really should've had the last girl keeping a list of what she had transcribed, and then they would not be in this predicament.
I would just try to be as pleasant and professional in my responses to her, but do not let her have you sorting out her mess at no charge.
Anyone with similar rash? [2008-12-02]
I had posted this q. on the Gab Board before, but got no response, maybe because I worded the subj line wrong or maybe it was just the wrong board. Has anyone had an experience with an underarm rash that may be a form of tinea? This started w/me having an irritation 3 months ago from wearing an ill-fittingbra in hot, humid weather. Since then it has gone from red to a brownish rash that is spreading to areas under my arms that was not originally irritated. Any OTC treatment I could try before I make an embarrassed visit to my doctor? TIA!
Dear MTSO... [2008-12-01]
You have the wrong employees. I NEVER TAKE THE HOLIDAYS OFF unless there is no work for me to do.
Don't tell me there aren't people in the US who have no work ethic because you are looking in the wrong places. I know lots of people who have a better work ethic than you apparently. Poor baby had to do four 18-hour shifts...if you OWN your own company and you only have 48 employees, this can happen when you um, like give them all the day off.
Sounds like to me you have IC workers, not employees. Most employees I know work when employer says to work. If you need people to work holidays, why did you give them all the day off?

no matter who they were targeting, it happened, and it happened in a country where our jobs and livelihoods are going to on a daily basis, at our expense. No, these people didn't do anything wrong, my heart goes out to them as well. But seriously, I would not want my medical record file in a building when it burned down.
But the terrorists were in the US on 9/11 [2008-11-28]
I am not defending Indian MTs, per se, but terrorists were here in the US... So, I guess I'm not getting why you feel that would mean our medical records are in jeopardy. My heart goes out to those people. They did nothing wrong. I did read something that the attacks were meant for the US and Britons that were in India.
Prepaid MC/Visa [2008-11-28]
i think you ladies have this MC/Visa thing all wrong...think of it as a debit card from your bank. I have worked for multiple companies that have had this. This was done through ADP the payroll company...you can have all or a percentage of a fixed dollar amt put on the card, the rest is direct deposited into your bank account. you goto ADP online and get your paystub just like regular. Other payrollprocesses that do this are Paychex which uses JPMorgan/Chase as their MC/Visa...all reputable and above board. Face it ladies this is the wave of the future...banks don't want us writing checks and don't want to deal with paper checks so they are slowly phasing them out.
Docking for blanks [2008-11-27]
Encourages guessing....totally wrong. This is a policy adopted by people who have never done the job.
No Way! [2008-11-27]
Are there really companies who do that? I think it is absurd! I agree that encourages guessing, and that is wrong!
Keeping reports... [2008-11-26]
There was a thread this week about someone saying they kept reports as a sample of their ability. Everyone claimed this was against the HIPPA rules.
Well here we have an ad, and I hope I don't get in trouble, for posting this, but see below:
Let me know if you have experience in the field of neurosurgery and if you can, please provide work samples. If I get the information and qualifications quickly, we may have a chance to win this contract, and work for you. Thanks! Now, to me that sounds like you would need to send sample reports. Am I wrong here? I guess this proves that it is okay to save reports as long as the demographic information is deleted and it becomes basically a sample report.
Just my 2 cents...
I never worked as an IC, but [2008-11-21]
I worked for MDs in an office. One of the MDs would jump around from patient to patient in his dictation because he'd dictate as he was physically seeing the patients that way. That is, he'd see Mr. Smith and dictate something, but while Mr. Smith was getting blood work, he'd see Ms. Jones, and he'd dictate something on Ms. Jones. Then while Ms. Jones was changing, he'd dictate some more on Mr. Smith. Now and then he'd forget to say the name, but since the sex was different I could tell. But how many times did he do it between two male patients or two female patients? In that case, the note could end up in the wrong chart. And whose fault would that be? That's not the type of error a dictator would ever recognize making.

Keyboard Opinions - Avant versus Kinesis [2008-11-18]
I am faced with a decision between these 2 keyboards, both with pros and cons. I would like to take a survey to see what everyone's opinion would be. I strongly prefer a programmable keyboard, as I would like to change some of the keys around to suit me, but will I regret not having an ergo keyboard in the long run? Will I like the IBM clicky type keys?

Geez, people like you are what's wrong with society today...a complete lack of compassion or empathy for anyone other than yourself.

Yes I have complained for a few times on here. Sorry. Didn't realize it was such a bother. I thought this was a place to come and vent your fustrations. Guess I was wrong.
I have not left yet because like I said I don't have 2 years exp, which most companies I have applied with want or I don't have the acute care that most I applied with want. That is why I haven't gotten another job. I wondered if anyone else had gone through this experience before. Like I said I am at wits end. I don't know what to do and I guess I was just venting. If I could I would have another job.

problem you reported with your resumes not being responded to, it wasn't clear if you were just more casual here. You could just as easily replied there wasn't anything wrong your grammar. Having worked in human resources before, I know most resumes/correspondence gets 15 seconds to 1 minute of time. I have personally blown a couple job opportunities because I set the wrong tone with my resume, e-mail, and cover letter (jobs I really, really wanted), and I was only trying help. I have certainly been at my wits end in this business, too, and feel for those MTs who feel stuck in a job they're not happy with.
No responses ... a bad sign? [2008-11-14]
Yikes, I was hoping for some encouragement. Am I correct in thinking it's a bad sign no one has responded? (Please tell me I am wrong!)
Why are we not valued? [2008-11-13]
I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out.
One would think that an MT with skills and experience would be something of value. The MTSOs and the physicians we serve seem to not even see us as skilled human beings but rather like dull drones, machines without real lives who were created just to just pump the work out without much thought (it is as if they think we do not THINK!). With the ASR game in full swing, this feeling is more prevalent than ever before, at least in my experience/perception.
Why?
Why are the years of dedication it took to acquire these skills not appreciated? Why are they so quick to get rid of us? If our job is so easy a monkey could do it, then why does it seem so hard to me? Why do they think it is okay to not only freeze and regress wages, eventually cutting our pay in half for ASR work?
I find all this very depressing.
My company has announced it will begin switching us over to SR/ASR. I am really afraid this means more work for me for less pay. I wish what they are saying now will be true, that I will be able to do 3 times as much in the same amount of time, but I don't believe that. I am afraid it will turn out to be snake oil. I also think that if they are charging the clients the same for SR/ASR reports, then I should be paid the same.
WTH is going on? :(
(Do the MTSOs the cut rates for us to do ASR/VR charge the clients half as much as well? Somehow I doubt that. They get to pay us half for the same skills/work and make the same, thus THEY get a huge pay raise while we get slammed. Am I wrong about this? I would like to be.)
I do not think that they 'approve it, they just send it for editing...sm [2008-11-13]
If it is full of errors, the doctor blames it on the system or the equipment, not on himself, that's the PROBLEM.
If it is like you say, then I think that the client pays for straight transcription and ASR the same rate, since he does not know if it is straight or ASR. He is just dictating.
Am I right or wrong?
Correct [2008-11-13]
You are not wrong from what I can tell, unless the MTSO is cutting client rates to be competitive. I don't know.
Daily? [2008-11-13]
Daily work is exactly what the word DAILY means -- work that comes in on a daily basis. No days pass by without an empty queue.
I must be with the wrong companies then.
I've met about 15 from the web... [2008-11-13]
...and keep in contact with bunches more. The longest relationships I have currently are with a group of 7 women I started talking to about 10 years ago when all of our kids were just babies. We've gotten together at least once a year, sometimes twice a year or more. We've flown out west to meet up with 2 of the gals for a weekend. I wish they lived closer. Then another set of folks, I've known and talked to daily for just a little over 6 years. Three of us are admin of an online gaming league together, and again, we talk constantly - email, phone, IM...one day we will meet I hope, but I've met 9 men and women from the game league in real life, and 2 have stayed at my home. Then I have my MT friends who I've worked with at different points in time who I speak to just about daily. It's no wonder my phone batteries are always dead.
Being afraid to meet them or talk to them on the phone was never an issue with me. Sure I am aware of the dangers involved, but hours upon hours chatting in IM on the phone, sharing stories & confidences, common interests, family pictures, talking to their significant others, etc., erased any kind of fear for me.
Don't get me wrong, I don't just talk to anyone, I'm cautious of who I let into my online world, and so far, I've chosen my friends wisely repeatedly.
ADHI, former AAMT...... [2008-11-12]
Exactly, EVERY year ADHI makes its own grammar rules, which are wrong, BTW, to get money, confusing the MTs and QAs, causing a lot of arguments and slowing us down.
If we follow the ADHI's rules, we are going to lose our correct grammar knowledge.
