Looking for TX Platform like Bayscribe, Etc. with Low Cost [2008-12-01]
Hi,
Starting up a TX business here. Want to be able to offer clients a platform like Bayscribe or Vianeta, etc. However, I am looking for one with low cost, I love Bayscribe, but if you are low volume, which we would be starting out, their per line rate is very high. Does anybody know of a good platform with a low per line rate and no or very low startup cost?
Thank you,
David
Can is use Vianeta and Bayscribe on same PC? [2008-11-24]
I'm going to be working for 2 separate MT companies very soon. One company uses Vianeta and the other uses Bayscribe. Does anyone know if there will be a conflict on my computer with 2 programs running at the same time? Each program uses a different foot pedal.
Bayscribe/expanders [2008-10-27]
I use ShortHand with Bayscribe and it works fine. The only drawback I have is my wireless keyboard messes up Shorthand sometimes but not always. I tried re-installing my keyboard and Shorthand but nothing seems to work, it still messes up occasionally.

Need someadvice. I have just started using Bayscribe and have been using Shorthand. Does Instant Text work with Bayscribe like SH does, and it is worth the investment? I am coming from an editing position, so straight typing is taking me awhile and I am looking for a way to help my speed. Also, would you recommend ABCZwithInstant Text. Thanks!
Instant Text does work with Bayscribe. nm [2008-10-22]

Oh please! Please!!! Anyone on Bayscribe? [2008-10-15]
Heeeeeeeeeelp!!!!
Suddenly, out of nowhere (maybe they just upgraded?) the doctor roster comes up in this little tiny box in the corner all of a sudden--not the big box in the center I'm used to. OK fine..I find the doctor name I'm looking for in the list (to put in the ADT screen) and I have no idea how to do this! Before you hit A or enter or whatever and the name would automatically go into the ADT screen (this after I hit the little DR box)...
What happened?? I have a whole night's work ahead of me and no one to call. Please, anyone!!!!

Just close it out and log back in. I had this happen yesterday.
Bayscribe help!! [2008-10-09]
I'm working on my daughter's computer today because I'm having tons of problems with mine. So, I had to download the productivity tools and kind of start from scratch. It's been so long since I've set up my tools that I cannot remember how to change my spellchecker options so that it doesn't automatically capitalize the next letter after a period. Example: Ecotrin 81 mg p.o.daily. It keeps wanting to capitalize the d in daily. Does anyone know how to change this?
Bayscribe [2008-10-09]
If you are in a report, click control F3, go to local configuration, uncheck the box that says enable capitalization after 2 spaces are typed.

What do you all think of this? Want to know the good, bad, indifferent. I am getting ready to train on this platform and just am wondering how it really is.

Word Expander Tips and Tricks
One handy definition that you can create is one that will easily expand to, for instance, 11-year-old. To do this, create an expansion with the ShortHand of yo. Then in the With: box type Ctrl-Backspace followed by -year-old. To activate this expansion, just type any number followed by a space, yo, space. For instance, 11 yo will expand to 11-year-old . Backspace characters show up as dark vertical lines in the With: b

I imported my MSW AutoCorrect file into Bayscribe but a lot of it will not work. For instance, in MSW I useYO as the expansion for -year-old, but this now will not work after a number nor will YO work after a numberfollowed by ahyphen either. Seems it only will work after a space.Any idea how to design an expansion that will work after a number or hyphen without a space in between?
Also, all the capitalizations I built infor headersget reversed to lower case when I follow them with a colon and I have resigned myself to having to re-enter all of those. Any Bayscribe experts who can shed some light?
Bolds in Bayscribe [2008-09-30]
I just started using Bayscribe (this is my 3rd day). I imported my MSW AutoCorrect file toBayscribe, but lots of it doesn't work, and what does and does not work is pretty random. I have had todelete and re-enter many of my shortcuts, in exactly the same way - THEN they work. Go figure. Something got scrambled in the import.
I was told that I needed to delete all my bolded headings from the file before the import because they would not work in Bayscribe, or would not work with the hospital's software when the report got there.
Question: My expansion for -year-old has always been YO and it always expanded after a numeral but in Bayscribe this will not work. Nor can I get just year-old to expand after a number with a hyphen (i.e. 80-) . The expansions will only work after a space. If you have a trick to get expansions to work after a number or a hyphen I'd love to know it.
Bayscribe Issue... [2008-09-30]
I have that same issue with the - (as in -year-old, -month-old), and it takes longer to go back and remove the extra space I have to put in for the Expander to work than it does to type it out.
Let me know if you find out if this is correctable or just an oddity of Bayscribe. Typing those two little words and hypens is more time-consuming than one would think, lol!!!

Bayscribe [2008-09-15]
Anyone use PC ShortHand with ith Bayscribe? I cannot get mine to work right. It skips expansions, puts half the expansion in and sometimes does not finish the word. Anyone else have this problem or is there another Expander that works well with Bayscribe? I am getting frustrated here. I tried doing everything the Shorthand web site said to do but to no avail. Appreciate any suggestions.
Bayscribe Question... [2008-09-11]
Does anyone know if Bayscribe has a built-in line count program, or is there another program I should download to keep track of my lines?
TIA for any answers...
Bayscribe [2008-09-11]
It does...and in fact, it lets you know the number of lines, as well as what you will be paid for each and every report. I love that feature!!
I've been pleased with Bayscribe ... sm [2008-09-09]
I think it's a lease/rental all-web-based rather than a big install with equipment.
It seems to be pretty easy to update account specifics and MD rosters, templates etc.
I can't use the bayscribe Expander at the same time as my personal expander so I use my personal expander; however, most people seem very happy with the Bayscribe expander -- it's fast, etc.)
It has a pretty good autosave feature in the event of power outage or user error.
The sound quality is very good.
Oh, and it has a really -- imho -- great review QA feature that lets you do side by side comparison on all blanks, qa corrections, etc. making it much easier, faster and on-point to review QA.
Check it out online.

Bayscribe Question [2008-08-29]
I've been trying to enter bolded headings into my Expander but for some reason, it will not longer let me do that! It just BEEPS when I tried to click the CTR B to bold in the expander box. The ones I've established are there and work, but the new ones will only beep.
Ideas? THANKS!
Help!!! Using Bayscribe after DocuScibe [2008-08-08]
and I keep screwing up the bold. I don't recall if DocuScribe had a ctr-N for something, but when I'm supposed to ctr-B for BOLD on Bayscribe, I keep accidentally hitting the N, then a new box comes up, my system crashes, and I lose all my work! What can I do so bolding isn't so difficult? I've lost two reports tonight because of my error! ABOUT TO SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Verizon HSI, stating security no longer available [2008-12-03]
anyone else with Verizon high-speed internet? saying that we now have to pay an introductory rate of $1.99 per month for the first six months for continued security. my computer runs PC tools Spyware doctor and Norton protection center, which I assume was provided by Verizon. Is that what they're talking about discontinuing? anybody ???
Make your expander lists portable [2008-12-01]
The esp file can be saved as mentioned. The next step is to make it work in Bayscribe. One solution is to use Instant Text and import your esp file. Once your Expander file is an Instant Text glossary, it is portable and you can use it on any MTSO transcription platform.

copying or transferring Extext expanders [2008-11-26]
I'm moving to a different MTSO and would like to copy all (probably 20,000) of the expanders/abbreviations I've created over the years. Hopefully, I can copy these on to a disk and transfer them to the my new MTSO, which utilizes Bayscribe. It wouldn't bemuchfun having to re-create these. Help, anyone?

yes, not sure what version you are but sm [2008-11-21]
Under Tools click on customize, then click on keyboard. Then choose Format under the category window, then in the command window, find Format Bullets and Numbering. Now choose your keyboard command (like CTL X)and make sure you are not already using that for something important! Then put your new command in the press new shortcut key window, then click assign. Hope this helps!
ALSO, [2008-11-19]
Nursing can be very emotionally draining. You are often on the front lines of the battlefield, fighting to save lives, frustrated at not being able to be in 30 places at once, often losing the battle..often provided with few tools and/or help. Hospitals do like to staff as few team members as they believe can get the job done; often this skeleton team is not sufficient. The skeleton crew is stressed further when someone is out sick, or there are several serious emergencies going on at once with the patients. You can never predict or be prepared for every surprise scenario that comes your way. You leave at the end of your shift feeling as if you just didn't do enough.
Conflict with LWWLicenseCleanup.0001 file and firewall? [2008-11-18]
I installed the Comodo firewall on my computer and it seems to be working fine except one very annoying problem. For some reason, I will open a program, ie, DocQscribe, Instant Messenger, etc., and my firewall keeps asking whether to allow LWWLicenseCleanup.0001 to run, I click yes but then when I open the program again for some reason this stupid file is trying to link to another part of the program I guess and I get the same window asking for permission to allow it. Here's the kicker, a lot of the time it will totally lock up my system and I will have to reboot.I called Stedman's tech and they really didn't know what to do but he had me go into Administrative Tools and turn off a Stedman's License file but still this crazy Cleanup.0001 keeps trying to run because my firewall is still detecting it. Has anyone else had this problem? I did a Google search and found a link to one other MT who had a problem with this file and Zone Alarm but there was not really a solution offered. The firewall I am using is Comodo.

Maybe this is what you are looking for [2008-11-17]
I'm thinking you are wanting to change the color of the background in Word. I currently have mine set to a blue background with white text. If this is what you are trying to do, all you need to do is go to Tools - Options - General and then check the box that says blue background with white text.
Hope this helps!!!
Reply [2008-11-15]
You have to be in Word, go to tools, options, general and check the box that says blue background, white text.
How was the test? [2008-11-15]
Been thinking about doing it. I have been an MT for years and have never thought it would be helpful but some companies paying more $ for CMT. How long did it take you to study and what study tools did you use?
The only things that I find silly [2008-11-12]
about the Safetypeare the price and the 12% restocking fee for returns (not to mention shipping costs to and possibly fro). More like ridiculous!
I looked at many, many keyboards during my search for an alternative, but I was looking morefor an alternative to the mouse, and I found it. Not to be redundant, as I posted about this a week or so ago and have posted about it before, but I LOVE MY ALPHAGRIP!!! It's a match made in heaven! The cost is a third of Safetype, and some of the others that offer similar hand positioning are up to $400 dollars or more. With the AlphaGrip, at least there is no restocking charge if you decide to return it within the 30-day timeframe allowed.
I love mine so much that I just recently purchased another one! Not because the first was defective, but because I s tu pid ly spilled coffee on the first one . It still worked and I used it for a while after that, but the keys became harder to press and it was too much of a workout.
As I mentioned in my previous posts, it does look complicated, but I found it very easy to learn to use, what with all the helpful information and tools provided on their site.
That said, I have (quite some time ago) seen several posts from people here that use keyboards similar to the Safetype and were happy with them. I've included the link for the AlphaGrip below in case you want to check it out. It looks like they decided to change the name to the iGrip, which I am not too happy about, but I guess a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and I'm sure the name doesn't change anything about this product either, but I still prefer to call it an AlphaGrip!
legal tx is very different from medical (sm) [2008-11-10]
I've never actually done legal transcription, but I have done legal editing, so I know for a fact it's an entirely different world....Legal transcripts MUST be verbatim - no exceptions; one transcript can be hundreds of pages long; there are multiple speakers who may or may not be clearly identified and who frequently aren't easy to hear if they're too far away from a microphone or shuffling through papers while they're speaking; and because every hearing is different and must be verbatim, tools such as Expanders or macros are virtually useless.
It's very interesting work, but very, very difficult.
Make Word 03 and 07 work together! [2008-11-10]
First of all, I appologize for the LONG message, but well worth reading if you use Word. I asked this question on the Microsoft Discussion Board on 11/7/08. Here are the posts:
DeviousRedBaron wrote: I am running Word 2007. For work, I download a template created in Word 2003, then type my document in Word 2007. After this, I have to import header/footer info that I believe is created with Word 2003. This takes a long time and at the bottom of the screen the message Word is replacing ... appears. Is there any way I can speed this up, or avoid it all together? I love Word 2007 and would like to continue to use it. I do have Word 2003 also. I cannot change the info that I have to download. I access it through the intranet and it is different for each report. (I am a medical transcriptionist.) Speed is important in my line of work! Thanks in advance!!!!!
Graham Mayor wrote: You will need to tell us more about the importing of the header/footer. How? From where? What is the exact sequence of steps used to create a document. At what point does the message appear? -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org
DeviousRedBaron wrote: Hi Graham, I open my transcription program (created by the transcription company that I work for) and download my reports over the intranet. These are voice files and .doc information (that ends up in the header/footer). I double click on the report I want to type up and a template box pops up. I choose the .dot template that I need and it automatically opens Word in compatability mode with part of the header/footer info already in the document. This is usually the hospital/clinic address and phone number, or what ever info that particular company has requested. On some reports, there are headings that are loaded into the body of the document as well. This process is usually pretty quick, depending on my company's server. Now, I type up my report in the body of the document. When I am finished, I have to apply the demographics to the document. This is the information about the patient, clinic/hospital numbers, doctors' names, cc info...that is also downloaded with the report from the intranet. Some of this info goes into the header/footer as well. Some of this info is attached to the document so it is sent to the correct departments/doctors.... Once I apply the demographics, I have to wait for Word to replace .....something. (The message on the bottom of Word flashes from a long message to a short one very rapidly, making it impossible to read the entire message!) I have read a little bit about writing a code (macro) so that everything opened with Word is opened in 2003 format. I do not start Word, it opens with my company software, so I never get to choose a template in Word. I have also tried to set the compatibility for all documents to 2003 and this does nothing. Also tried to set it up to save as a 2003 document, as well as a .dot and this does not make any difference. I am at a loss! Thanks for your quick response, it is greatly appreciated!
Graham Mayor wrote: It is the application of demographics - presumably by a macro that appears to be the issue. This was obviously created by the transcription company with Word 2003 in mind. Whether it would be possible to improve that code is impossible to say without seeing it - and really that is a job for the company that provided it, so I will stick to attempting to make the function use Word 2003 rather than 2007. http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm demonstrates how to set Word 2003 and 2007 to share the same platform without reconfiguring the registry each time one of them is run to grab the shared settings for itself.. You should then be able to associate doc and dot files through Windows Explorer Tools Folder Options File Types - DOC Advanced Open Edit and change the application used to perform the action to Word 2003, which by default should mean entering C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11WINWORD.EXE /n /dde %1 in that space. Repeat for DOT, though this time edit the action for NEW - the application used to perform the action should be C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11WINWORD.EXE /n /dde and the DDE message should be [REM _DDE_Direct][FileNew(%1)] In both examples if Word 2003 is installed in some other location than the default shown, change the paths to reflect that other location. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org
DeviousRedBaron wrote: Thanks so much, Graham! I have followed your instructions, but have not yet tested it with my company's software. I am going to test it out tomorrow. If there are any gliches, I will repost. If all goes well, would you mind if I pass this info on to my fellow MTs? (Medical transcriptionists.) I am sure there are numerous woman, and a few men, who could benefit greatly from your advise. I will await your response. Once again, thank you!!!!!
If it works for you, feel free to share with your colleagues. If double clicking a doc or dot file opens Word 2003 and not 2007 it should work with the company software - depending on how the company software calls Word.-- Graham Mayor - Word MVPMy web site www.gmayor.comWord MVP web site http://word.mvps.org
I hope this will help everyone! I know it helped me. I love typing in Word2007, but for now, I will have to type in Word 2003 until my company's software is compatible with it. At least I can have both programs running at the same time! The info on his web page about creating a toolbar is not necessary, unless it is something you need to do for Word 2007.
The above poster is 100% correct. BUT you need to know this sm [2008-10-27]
I work in MedRite XL and Extext, both Word clients and I have them set to a blue background white text, just like good old 5.1. It doesn't translate to anyone else.
BUT and this VERY important. If you are going to do this, you MUST do this in Word: Go Tools, Options, General and check that blue background white text box. If you do it any other way, it WILL translate to everyone else. NEVER mess with the Font, Font color, Text color under Format tab...unless you are doing something for you that you actually want colored funny.
