Dictaphone extext question [2008-12-02]
Can someone please tell me how I get the little box to open that allows me to speed up or slow down the dictation? Sometimes it opens automatically and sometimes it does not. How do I make it open when it does not appear automatically?
Dictaphone/Extext [2008-12-02]
When you have Dictaphone/Extext open, you should also have another window open (maybe in the background) called Transet player. On the transnet player box there is a tab called more this will give you the spot to change the speed.
Does Editscript V8 now with USB foot pedal? [2008-11-28]
I ended up getting a laptop for my version 8 upgrade since I use another program for another account and can't do both on my desktop. My 9-pin worked fine with a USB adapter on my desktop and the old version ES, but now won't work with V8 and the laptop. It is set correctly and can fast forward and rewind and stop dictation when I tap the center but won't play when I press the center key. I am stuck having to use Alt A to play audio and tap the pedal to pause, which has slowed me down considerably. I've tried to change the brand of the adapter to one of them suggested and it does the same thing as the one I was using. I wonder if it would be worth while to just get a new Infinity USB pedal. I notice when setting the port on Editscript options that it now has a USB option. Has anybody used this type of foot pedal with the V8 successfully? I'm getting very frustrated with this upgrade, especially with the expense at Christmas time and the hours waisted trying to get it to work, that I don't get paid for.
Use something to prop your foot pedal [2008-11-20]
higher, sometimes it is as simple as putting it on a telephone book or have someone make you a wooden stand. At one hospital I worked one fo the ladies' husbands made us all a gradually sloping stand to put our foot pedals on, it was great.
foot pedals [2008-11-19]
If I have no foot pedal and don I just won Any advise on this, and any recommendations on what is the best company for part-timers. I have been around a while, and too old to do full-time, but have the knowledge in acute care, etc. Lots of experience.
Any suggestions on keeping your foot pedal still! [2008-11-18]
I have hardwood floors in my office and my foot pedal slips and slides around. I am consantly scooting it back towards me and having to reposition it numerous timesa day.
Any suggestions?
scooting pedal [2008-11-18]
For awhile I had it on a piece of that grippy stuff they sell in rolls, supposed to use it to keep rugs in place. But it got dusty or something stick any more, so now I have one of those foam pads they sell in catalogs for kneeling in the garden. It seems to stay in place okay. I have Pergo floors & I don't like to wear shoes when I'm transcribing, so my heel would always get sore. The foam pad stopped this.
Anyone uyse a Dictaphone Straight Talk #7120? [2008-11-12]
I bought this brand new but it has an annoying quiet buzz. Also, how is the tone on yours? Mine sounds muffled. Is there any way to clear it up? I have the tone slider at the top of the + sign. Is there another way to up the tone so it is more clear?
My doc tried to test it today and he said all it did was beep at him. He did use an author ID. Do you ever have problems with it constantly beeping?
Of course, the manual doesn't give a lot of info.
I own the older model that used tapes and never had a problem with it. I beginning to hate this one and I've only had it since Monday.
How to re-record off phone line? [2008-11-12]
Does anyone know how to re-record transcription off a phone line? TIA
Is the foot pedal attached? nm [2008-11-10]

As you can see, it is not all that pretty. The tray tendedto move when I would press the pedal. A few large, heavy bricks and two PDRs later, all is well!!
Digital phone/C-phone [2008-11-07]
Does anyone use a C-phone withdigital phone service? Does this work out okay?
foot pedal [2008-11-04]
As far as I know, Express Scribe works with the Infinity footpedal, but it must be a serial port; if the footpedal or the computer do not have a serial port, you can change this through an adapter.
And you have also put the footswitch control in the computer (Control/Panel/footswitch) on serial port.
EMDAT foot pedal [2008-10-27]
I just started on the EMDAT platform and did not buy their foot pedal as I have an Infinity foot pedal that works with it. However, it is driving me crazy. When I press play for a short period of time and then let up on it, the dictation will not stop. Only when I hold play down for a long period of time will it stop when I let up on it. I called EMDAT's help number and really got nowhere. Has anybody else had this problem. Should I buy the EMDAT foot pedal - is that any better?
Emdat pedal is not better sm [2008-10-27]
as a matter of fact, it goes on PS2 port with keyboard and I found it conflicted with my keyboard and switched to a USB keyboard. Do you have the play andpause function separated under the Options?Just have to learna newflow.
Must program it as 3 foot pedals to work..sm [2008-10-24]
When you program the foot pedal, you need to program it as 3 foot pedals..one for back, one for play and one for forward.
open express scribe
go to settings
pedal drop down and choose 3

Express Scribe foot pedal [2008-10-22]
I have an Infinity pedal I have used with Express Scribe I would sell. Let me know if interested.
have never been able to get my Infinity pedal to work... [2008-10-22]
with Express Scribe. It's a pain, but I've just used the manual controls.
Foot Pedal [2008-10-21]
I have a foot pedal that resembles the Start Stop foot pedal(with UBS connection). It does not work with Express Scribe. My old pedal, the Dictaphone clam shell is about to bite the dust and I want to be able to use this foot pedal. On the back, there is a label that says Infinity, but it is obscured by a newer label put over it that says DA 130 INet iPlayer. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Trying to take a test in Express Scribe and cannot get my foot pedal to work. I dont want to [2008-10-21]
cause a problem in DQS with the foot pedal either. Any suggestions. I have the foot pedal that you use for DQS. It is an Infinity foot pedal.
I think your Infinity foot pedal has iNet software [2008-10-21]
set up so it will not play with Express Scribe (I had the same problem). I ended up buying a new Infinity foot pedal off ebay for $65 including shipping and it works fine on Express Scribe and WinScribe. Good luck!
What's a C-phone? [2008-10-17]
Help. Just need some education on what a C-phone is, how it works. Thanks.
It's basically a type of Dictaphone [2008-10-17]
where you you dial into the hospital's dictating unit to pick up your dictation. It has to be programmed for your individual accounts.

I ordered them and used them for about a week or two...sm [2008-12-03]
I had the same concern about the batteries near my brain, almost a slight buzzing when you foot is not on the pedal. I ended up calling customer service and they gladly switched them for me to the less expensive QC1 headphones. I love them.
Converting dss.gxe files to dss [2008-12-03]
Does anyone know if this is possible? I'm trying to get my WAV pedal to play these Gear Export files. The extension is dss.gxe and I think the gxe is preventing my WAV pedal from being able to open them. Thanks in advance!
I need some advice on starting my own small side business. sm [2008-12-02]
First of all, I have worked for several nationals in the past few years, and equipment has always been provided. I currently have a f/t position with a national that I use my own personal computer for, they just put their software on it. I had what I needed already, as far as foot pedal, Expander program, etc.
I have just been sort of rolling ideas around in my head about possibly starting up something small perhaps on a p.r.n. basis just to bring in a little extra income. As I am still just mulling this around in my mind, my questions are: How do I go about getting started? Do I try to purchase equipment first, or start out using tapes? I am worried about spending the money and not having any takers, so I am thinking, I should send out some sort of letters first; but, without having the equipment already, how do I tell them I plan on doing their transcription. Maybe mention tapes first, and tell them I have plans to go digital after I get up and running? These are all just things I wonder about. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to email me with any advice.
I have been an MT for 16+ years, but as I said, I have always had all of the stuff provided for me and just don't know how to start.
Thanks in Advance!
Thank God for some nurses who DO dictate... [2008-12-02]
for the docs who are horrible dictators. I do progress notes for an ICN nursery almost nightly. Thank GOD for those nurses. There are 2 docs right from the old country who can't string a sentence together in English though good docs they may be. We're talking 7-8 page very detailed reports on some of these babies. The other night, one of these gals dictated the first part, God love her, and actually handed the phone to the doc to give his 2 cents worth, awful dictator. Hey, the best thing some of these docs can do is let their PAC's do the dictating!!!

They also do this to find out who your accounts are, [2008-12-01]
get their foot in the door, and underbid you, thereby stealing US MTSO's accounts, so that knife cuts both ways.
Another thing to consider [2008-12-01]
According to the EditScript V8 foot pedal configuration, we CAN now use the USB foot pedals. However, I haven't tried it.
There also might be a program on your laptop that is somehow interfering with the audio on EditScript V8. Were you able at any time to play audio with EditScript V8 on your laptop with the foot pedal?
For instance, when I downloaded the toolbar from eBay, I suddenly was not able to get my footpedal to work, though it was working great before this. I was able to play audio with the ALT keys, but just couldn't get used to it. My foot pedal, btw, is just a standard 9-pin.
In my case, I knew that the footpedal and audio worked just fine the day before. So, in order to get the foot pedal to play audio again on EditScript V8, I had to do a system restore, restoring my system back 2 days, to when I didn't have that ebay toolbar on my laptop. I don't know if system restore would help you if you don't know if/what other programs might be interfering, but there might be some other program that is interfering;for instance,Yahoo or Google toolbar.
At least they asked you how you wanted to handle it. SM [2008-12-01]
They could have just not paid you for those dictations or they could have just called you up and told you they weren't going to pay you for that those dictations. As it is, they attempted to be diplomatic, I guess.
I would, in a friendly way, say something like I wish I would have known which ones had already been typed before I started typing. I could have skipped over the ones already done. And then ask with the next group of dictations, if any have been transcribed that they provide you with a list up front. But I agree with everyone else, I would let them have this one since they are probably scrambling to try to figure out the mess that the former girl left. But if it happens again, I would put my foot down and let them know you're not in the business of typing for free.
Hey, Ghost, yes, I got these two years ago, they are fantastic,,,,,sm [2008-11-30]
They really block out any noise around your house, are comfortable, but best of all they produce crisp, clear, life-like sound for all those mumble-mouth dictators.....won't solve everything, but I have been doing this over 25 years, used Dictaphone, and many many other brands, Bose rocks, not to mention using them for music listening, absolutely awesome and worth the bucks, IMHO!

Terrorists anywhere are horrible, awful! [2008-11-27]
We are very fortunate, indeed. These no-mind brainless idiots could be right around us. We can't let them get away with it, no matter where. I never thought my beautiful, innocent first grader would come home and tell me they have to practice getting under the desk for cover, lock their door and stay under the teacher's desk if possible, should any bad guys come into their school. Heartbreaking. They may be preparing for the nuts who come to school with a gun but I hate to see this happening in little first graders lives. How sad! As much as I hate to see work going to India, I don't wish them any harm. It shouldn't happen to a dog, never mind people. I will pray for them because the shoe someday may be on the other foot, God forbid! Yes, they were targeting Brits and Americans, that's how much they hate us, but I'm sure some people from India suffered as well. Terrorists know no boundaries, all they want is terror and heartache.
I am thankful today for my freedom and for those who are putting their lives on the line to protect us.We live in a great country.Have a Happy Thanksgiving, even if times are tough, we have the privilege of living in a great country.
cherrypicking [2008-11-26]
I need to vent. I work for a really nice company, have been with them for several years, and really like my work. Lately a couple of new people were hired, and it is obvious they are cherrypicking. Tough dictators get refused/sent back to pool. On our platform, we can tell when a job is sent back. If you are one of those people, why do you think you have the right to pick and choose your work and leave the crap for everyone else. it is only fair to take the jobs as they come. We will all get some good, some bad. Would you like the shoe on the other foot - you get stuck with all the crappy dictators? I am asking here, please do the work as it is assigned. Play fair, will ya? I have seen people post on this subject before but had never experienced it. Now I know why prior posters were so PO'ed about it. It kills the line count for the day, every day, while the new kid on the block is raking it in. Whoever you are, I hope the boss confronts you and assigns you all the junk for a while or fires your butt so those of us who have worked there for years can continue with the jobs we have loved for so long. You are ruining it for everyone else. Okay, vented. back to work. wonder what is in the pool now.
a few qualities I'd appreciate.... sm [2008-11-26]
1. Return emails in a timely fashion, same day. If you don't have a definitive answer for me on something, write me back anyway to let me know you are working on it. This way I won't continue to bug you, not knowing if you've received it/read it/deleted it/forgotten about it.
2. Don't continually tell your team how busy YOU are. We all have our jobs and we all have to get a lot done. When you tell me how overrun you are every day, I don't have faith that you can get ANYTHING done, and being busy' starts to become a whiny excuse.
3. Make yourself accessible. Don't tell me your phone extension and then always have it turned to the dead-end voice mail.
4. Don't tell me about your fabulous vacation unless I ask you about it. Company email is not the place to announce to the whole team your fantastic time off. Come back to work ready to work.
5. Keep it professional. Workers slack when supervisors attempt to be chummy. You will get taken advantage of if your team thinks you are buddies.
I could go on and on, but that's a good general start.
Had equipment problems with Transcend... [2008-11-25]
that they ignored with me though I complained daily. Even worked with a Dictaphone guy who apparently could not fix the problem though he tried. Long story short, I like the account assigned to me but just got tired of this stupid problem - I would have to log out and back in after single every report. I quit in disgust after 10 days because I felt they didn't take me seriously; they didn't even offer to send me one of their PC's, which would have cost me to rent anyway. They hated to see me go. Yeah, right.
VR [2008-11-25]
I've been doing VR using Extext for the past 3+ years, and love it. With our set up we don't even use the foot pedal. I put my feet up on a stool and settle in for the day (or most of it anyway), have to sit up straight for that odd job that needs to be typed. Anyway, before VR I was doing 15 minutes an hour (we don't figure production by lines per hour), now I average 27 minutes an hour. I will admit it took some time to get used to all the key combinations, but now it is second nature.
Our hospital [2008-11-24]
Only has an audit trail once the document has been e-signed. Before that, anyone can go in and do whatever without leaving a reason or seeing a history. Thankfullly, we type in a dictaphone system and it crosses an interface into meditech. The dictaphone system will show the report at all stages and show which Transcriptionist made which changes.

Can is use Vianeta and Bayscribe on same PC? [2008-11-24]
I'm going to be working for 2 separate MT companies very soon. One company uses Vianeta and the other uses Bayscribe. Does anyone know if there will be a conflict on my computer with 2 programs running at the same time? Each program uses a different foot pedal.
VR using EXText -- is it productive? SM [2008-11-23]
Getting ready to start doing VR through EXText. I watched a demonstration of the VR editing process and it looks horrible! From what I saw, it is not as simple as listening to the report, taking your foot of the pedal, and making a change. There is a process of alt+s and then highlight the word to correct, etc... It just looked very VERY tedious and unproductive. I currently transcribe using EXText and have used EXText since it was first marketed, so I'm very familiary with it. The VR portion of it is very new to me and seems like more of a burden than anything.
Then I was told that iChart will make the VR process much simplier and I'm wondering if this is true?
I have experience with VR using Escription and with the FutureNet program and both are so simple to use. The Dictaphone software just looks completely complicated and I can't see making any money using it.
Anybody who has experience with iChart, Dictaphone VR and EXText and would like to share their opinions and give me some more info, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Actually I use it and.... [2008-11-23]
I would have to say that I just put it all in regular mode and listen to almost in regular transcription mode and make the changes. I find it easiest for me. In edit mode, I find it difficult to have the cursor moving, I must take my foot off the pedal, make the change, then restart the pedal. I just couldn't do that! So in order to be able to use both foot pedal and cursor, I just don't it with all the symbols and stuff.....Make sense?
I have had this happen too s/m [2008-11-21]
I had one doctor so mad because I was losing his reports. Well, I would type his reports daily, send him a log with all the reports typed with dates and then weeks to months later get phone calls because they couldn't find his reports and would say I must have missed them. Well, when they get a daily log, why didn't they cross reference and make sure all the reports were there? He stopped dictating for about 3 months, but did come back.
There was another doctor in the same practice that would actually cross reference my log with his own appt schedule and if anything was missing, he would call to verify that I didn't get the report. He would even admit that it was probably his fault that he missed the report, but wanted to make sure before re-dictating. He only called about once a month on one patient so it amazes me how the other doctor could be missing 5 or so patients a month.
He did come back though, I don't know if he tried someone else out and finally realized it was his own fault or what, but he did come back.
As far as the secretary doing his dirty work, don't most people delegate what they don't want to do? Think of it that way. Just try not to take it so personally and just think, maybe it is a blessing in disguise at this moment!
most employers use the Book of Style sm [2008-11-21]
for standards and I would get one and read up on it to know the latest info...what did you fail on your testing? Speed? accuracy? You can certainly brush up on these things with practice tapes/dictation. Have you thought of typing independently for clinics in your area? Don't forget about psychiatric clinics, physical therapy clinics and other, less obvious places where documentation is necessary. Go personally to a doctor's office, speak only to the office manager there and tell them you are looking for work, perhaps at first only as a helper/coverage for their current Transcriptionist (I cover many doctor's offices for vacations). It will get your foot in the door at least. I have had two doctors ask me to be their full time transcriptionist after their own had left because I was their vacation coverage and they knew I could handle the job. Keep your head up! Perhaps working at a local hospital is the way to go. Good luck to you!
wouldn't this be HIPPA violation? [2008-11-20]
Just finished dictating an irritating doctor. Thought he was dictating on his cell phone, but turns out he was dictating on an airplane. Wouldn't that be a HIPPA violation?

USB hub recommendations? [2008-11-19]
Does anyone have a brand of USB hub that they can recommend.I currently have a Belkin highspeed hub with4 outlets. My hub connection keepsdropping from my mouse, keyboard, and foot pedal randomly.
