Talk to your bank [2008-11-28]
With DD, your bank statement is proof that the company paid you or not. With checks or prepaid credit cards, if it's lost in the mail YOU have no proof it wasn't sent. If it gets screwed up in adding it to the card, YOU have no proof the MTSO is at fault and you have to fight with Visa.
The MTSO is correct in refusing to tell you which other MTs get Visa--they have a right to privacy.
The main problem I can see with Visa is that it's just inappropriate. You'll be forced to spend every penny you earn AND spend it at an establishment that takes Visa. How do you plan on saving? How do you plan to pay your insurance and other expenses? What if your children need $10 for school?
You also may be subjected to fees and/or expiration of the funds on the card.
Why don't you talk to your bank about the safety of direct deposit? Perhaps if they can calm any unfounded fears you have, you can be paid in a more appropriate manner.
Wow, talk about scam artist giving MTs a bad name! [2008-11-14]
Deperate for info on Straight Talk 7120 [2008-11-13]
bought this brand new but it has an annoying quiet buzz. Also, how is the tone on yours? Mine sounds muffled. Is there any way to clear it up? I have the tone slider at the top of the + sign. Is there another way to up the tone so it is more clear?
My doc tried to test it today and he said all it did was beep at him. He did use an author ID. Do you ever have problems with it constantly beeping? I tried using a cell phone and land line. I have no trouble. What could be the problem with him? My attorney also tried to access the system and it did the same thing.
own the older model that used tapes and never had a problem with it until it died.. I beginning to hate this one and I've only had it since Monday. I'm about to lose my doc of 15 years because of this problem. His work is due tomorrow and he never dropped off tapes since Monday. I think I may have lost him and if I did, I'll be really disappointed, especially since his check goes for groceries.

Of course, the manual doesn't give a lot of info.

Why is it important to talk about placenta in reports [2008-10-30]
I'm not sure if I'm even on the right board for this. I rarely do OB reports, and maybe I should know this but I don't. Can someone tell me why it's important to talk about the placenta aftera delivery. I even have someone who dictated the time the placenta was delivered. I understand what placenta is, but I'm not putting 2 and 2 together as to why its important that it's talked about. I'm just curious is all.
Need tech help, anyone! [2008-10-19]
Help! I have my expansions in Word 2003 autoaorrect, called MSO1033.acl file. I wanted to transport this file to another computer using Word 2007. I got it over to the other computer, have installed it in the proper directory, and have renamed the Word 2003 file so it is called MSO.acl, which is what Word 2007 calls it. Yet, when I open Word 2007 on the destination computer, my expansions are not there. The file is showing in the directory, verified by my last date of change before I moved it, and ismore than three times the size of a normal .acl file. Can anyone tell me what boat I'm missing here? Thanks, appreciate it.
It looks similar to a telephone. You use it to dial [2008-10-17]
directly into the hospital system (usually, can also dial into MTSO system). You have a foot pedal that controls the dictation. You complete a report, sign it off and then get another one. Unless you have an 800 # to dial into, you will need unlimited long distance and most companies that say they offer ULD have a 5000 minute limit, which may not cover you.
You can Google C-phone and find a picture and get more info.
Talk to the doctor first [2008-09-23]
Maybe he does not realize what he's doing (yeah, right....but maybe). Let him know you feel overwhelmed, have no time for family, and you need help and a raise. He may have the same crappy schedule as you, but there's at couple hundred thousand dollars difference there.
If he could not give you some changes, then yes, I'd look for other employment. Life is too short.
I am also IC, as the other girls, and I work most of the time at least some part of every day, but I do occasionally take time off. You have to have some time or you will burn out.
Yes. It's no big secret. They talk openly about it. [2008-09-15]
Pharmacy tech in my area (sm) [2008-09-13]
is pretty well paid. Plus a lot of insurance companies that are hiring pharmacy techs are requiring you to have coding. So this is all a work in process to get the most education I can get before going back into the work force. I am not going to be able to work full-time but I would like to know that I have gotten the best education I can to do what I have planned to do.
I like the science of the pharmacy tech profession...at least the part of it that works with the total parenteral nutrition compounding etc.
I'm tired of all the talk [2008-09-03]
I'm starting a website. It's time we do something. If you want to participate, email me. I will post the website address as soon as I get things going. We can change names and whatnot later as we go. Right now lets just get the ball rolling!
tired of talk [2008-09-03]
Tired of all the talk about what? Maybe I'll join you but I gotta know why.
You probably need to talk to a computer [2008-08-08]
tech if you know one or local computer store to see about getting XP loaded on your computer and the various drivers changed or buy one with XP only on it. Most of the MTSOs out there have not upgraded to Vista and I don't see it happening anytime soon. There are a few out there that are compatible with Vista, but not many.
lets be realistic and talk about companies [2008-08-06]

Tech/video [2008-07-31]
I am posting a tech (nonwork related) question on the gab board ... any help will be appreciated!
Maybe a technical board would be another great addition to this site. Thanks.
Yes you can use Instant Text. Turn off DQS expander. Tech support can tell you how. [2008-07-29]
Call Instant Text and find out how to do this.
High school vo-tech [2008-07-21]
I took a medical office secretary class in high school, which was really a very good course, taking us through anatomy, Greek prefixes and suffixes, etc. In my senior year of high school, I started doing medical transcription for a local hospital, realizing then I knew practically nothing. (They were used to training everyone from scratch, so they thought I was great.) After five years there, I started working for Transcriptions Ltd (pre-MQ) and started doing the big city hospitals, realizing again, I knew nothing!
Since then, it's been a constant learning experience and I often think, if I were to take a year off, how it would be nearly impossible to come back - You learn something new nearly every day.
Tech support at Emdat [2008-07-18]
The absolute best thing to do, if you are having problems, is to call tech support at Emdat. (630)743-0500, extension 1. They are very helpful and patient. I don't know what version you have, but it sounds like it may be corrupted or possibly missing an update. I have never had the problems you are having. If you need actual tips on how to do specific things (maneuver around, find something), you can e-mail me anytime.
When I said vo-tech, I meant community college just in case you were wondering (nm) [2008-07-07]

given the HIPPA laws and what if somehow this ever goes to court (that would be my luck) and you actually have to go? Gone are the days when I typed my own path report because there wasn't anyone else to do it! and my own chest x-ray and mammogram, H&P and op note!
Never mind. I sent an email to IT tech support. Thx. nm [2008-06-26]

Why do Docs talk so fast [2008-06-16]
If this is what they think, someone needs to tell them that just isn't so. How are you supposed to type faster if you can't understand a word they're saying? I think it is just a very rude way to dictate and then expect back a letter perfect report.
Why do docs talk so fast [2008-06-16]
I am on account like this right now and I hate, hate, hate it. It is an ER account and they just make me sick to my stomach trying to digest all that they said.
If they think they are getting picture perfect reports they are sadly mistaken, not to mention how dangerous they can be because one doesn't understand them clearly. Consequently my reports are full of holes and they are sent to QA. I have been an MT for 30+ years and I still cannot understand them.
why do docs talk so fast [2008-06-16]
I believe it is because they do not like to dictate and they want to get it over with, it seems to rank right up there with doing rectal exams. In our office is what I have named the pile of neglect, he lets it grow until it has to be divided for fear of toppling over. This is for undictated patients that were seen in the office, where for example the patient has sinusitis and is prescribed a high dollar antibiotic and the physical says Nose unremarkable etc, or where part of the report is totally unintelligible or omitted. Sometimes there are even two notes on same patient same day and I do not feel qualified to choose which one should go in the chart.
WHY DO DOCS HAVE TO TALK SO FAST? [2008-06-13]
Why do they feel the need to sound like auctioneers? I don't think I could talk that fast even if I wanted to. I just needed to vent. I am typinga report right now doctor talks fine until gets to the physical examination and then it's auctioneer time. Sigh.
Understand your frustration [2008-12-04]
but after working inhouse I know they the med recs departments know of the problem and do try to talk to the doctors about it. most doctors just think they are above some things. I also know that sometimes the doctors and med recs departments don't set the TAT, the CEO or board of directors do based on JHACO and other audits. They also do build in some requirements for physician's to get things done in a timely manner and physician do get cited but (at least where I worked) it meant little to nothing. The physicians had no problem taking the slap on the hand for being late on dictation.
I, too, worked most of the weekend part-time....sm [2008-12-01]
We had Thursday and Friday as holidays, but since I knew there was a backlog and that it would truly be appreciated by my bosses, I dug in from time to time and we got the backlog caught up for today. I truly treasure my bosses and love my job, and all the co-workers I talk to feel the same way. We really do appricate and value a great MTSO and we prove it!!
Two years ago I got one through Dell by [2008-12-01]
calling in, they still had some available. They also have their own credit with no interest for a year if all paid off. If you can't find one and know a comp. tech. person, they can wipe Vista off and everything they have to do and install XP for you. I did check with STaples as I need a laptop and they would do it, but it costs like $400 more.
What about [2008-11-29]
What about those who are native English speakers, but speed talk, slur, chew gum, talk through background noise, etc.? What about those companies that don't dock pay, but deduct points if you couldn't deciphera dictator when they could? In some cases, the QA that can fill in the blank is someone who has worked with that dictator for many years. Nevertheless, they deduct points from your QA score if you cannot figure it out, and then withhold benefits or provide other penalties. Not all companies do this, but I feel that those who do are abusing the system as well. In the end, it is about withholding benefits, which is kind of like indirectly docking pay.

asr funny [2008-11-28]
Dictated: The patient's insurer will be contacted.
ASR: The patient's Ensure will be contacted.
If you think that can be done, I have some Bosco thatwould like to talk to you.
I don't post here super often but I could use some thoughts (m) [2008-11-21]
and support. Don't flame me for sounding weak or needy. I had a client call me out of the blue today (actually his secretary called me) and told me that I was no longer transcribing his letters. But were clear I'd still be transcribing for his partner. I asked why, she said she didn't know what his gripe was but that he made her be the bad guy. It feels personal to me, not because he did it on a personal level, but I guess it hurts like a personal attack because my work is very serious to me and I'd hate to think that he thought I wasn't do my job well enough. I know I was. I often felt undermined or a little accused by the staff at times. I was supposed to pick up x number of times per week and about a month ago they called and said now, how often ARE you picking up? which sounded like they were not believing I was coming when I should. I pick up after hours, have my own key. Other times I'll get lists of reports they need. Some I've given them weeks or months earlier. Some I don't have at all, BUT not because I lost them, because they weren't dictated. I keep a physical list of all reports on each tape I do and if it's not on the tape, it's not on the list. I mentioned this to the sec. once before in my defense when she's said he dictated such and such when he actually only thought he did or accidentally taped over it something, kwim? Things are so tight for us right now as they are for so many of us. I guess I just need to vent and ask if this has happened to others? Where you felt undermined and let go unfairly? Or if you've just had doctors come and go every so often for really no good reason? I feel bad. These doctors' wives are my friends (were before I worked for him) and I think that makes it feel more personal. I've been very good about and tried really hard not to mention personal in the office or the office when I see them socially so the two are separate. I just feel like he was unhappy with me and I often wondered if he was just by the questions the girl asked me and made me feel like she thought I wasn't doing my job right. But I really thought if HE had a problem, HE would talk to me so I was okay. Guess not, huh? Thanks if you even read this far. If you have a prayer or two to spare for me that it all works out, that I find work fast to replace this income and that my family doesn't feel any effects from it. Also that the relationship and my feelings are healed, that I can overcome it. I'd just appreciated any shared experiences. Thanks. (P.S. Not in the best frame of mind right now, so I apologize for any typos or errors. This is my disclaimer that I'm not going to proofread this, lol).
I've seen a few [2008-11-21]
Yes, I've seen some ads for used copies of Instant Text, after I purchased mine new. I've never had to contact tech support, so personally would not have cared about the license.
Buying a software license [2008-11-20]
Michelle,If you buy a used copy of Instant Text, what you are buying is a user license that the seller transfers to you and which means that the seller installs it from her/his computer.Make sure the seller provides you with the original CD, the manual, and the serial number of the licens. To be in compliance with the license agreement, the seller of a used copy must notify thesoftware publisherabout the license transfer soyou, the new user, can get tech support. This may be useful to know whatever youdecide to do.

Well if the file is 60 min in length [2008-11-19]
How long does it take you to transcribe 60 min of dictation? If it doesn't take that long, then swell, but if it takes you all day, then that's not much hourly...
Paid by the dictated minute is horrible especially when you've got a speed demon dictator that turns out it's actually 120 min worth of dictation because they talk so darned fast...
Conflict with LWWLicenseCleanup.0001 file and firewall? [2008-11-18]
I installed the Comodo firewall on my computer and it seems to be working fine except one very annoying problem. For some reason, I will open a program, ie, DocQscribe, Instant Messenger, etc., and my firewall keeps asking whether to allow LWWLicenseCleanup.0001 to run, I click yes but then when I open the program again for some reason this stupid file is trying to link to another part of the program I guess and I get the same window asking for permission to allow it. Here's the kicker, a lot of the time it will totally lock up my system and I will have to reboot.I called Stedman's tech and they really didn't know what to do but he had me go into Administrative Tools and turn off a Stedman's License file but still this crazy Cleanup.0001 keeps trying to run because my firewall is still detecting it. Has anyone else had this problem? I did a Google search and found a link to one other MT who had a problem with this file and Zone Alarm but there was not really a solution offered. The firewall I am using is Comodo.
Keyboard Opinions - Avant versus Kinesis [2008-11-18]
I am faced with a decision between these 2 keyboards, both with pros and cons. I would like to take a survey to see what everyone's opinion would be. I strongly prefer a programmable keyboard, as I would like to change some of the keys around to suit me, but will I regret not having an ergo keyboard in the long run? Will I like the IBM clicky type keys?

This is from the sales rep I spoke to this week:Have you ever heard of Northgate OmniKey keyboards? We purchased the rights to the keyboards when they went out of business. It is like typing on an old IBM keyboard. It is a loud click, you know when you hit a key. A lot of customers say they make fewer errors and I personally agree. I have had my Avant for a little over 10 years and I type all day long. I also have one at home. It might help for you to listen to this review on our website: http://www.cvtinc.com/products/keyboards/menu.htmClick on HEAR OUR INTERVIEW ON Lets talk Computers. Avant is VERY reliable. We sell to a lot of medical transcriptionists, writers, gamers, call center operators, etc. People that type 8 hours a day 5+ days per week. Our keyboards can really take a beating.

those schools that truly are ripoffs, in that they take your money and give you nothing.
There's a woman where I work part-timewith her personal horror story with a school that basically stole 800.00 from her.
or all the places selling VR who try to make it sound like it has already replaced us all.
Another woman I work with works as aradiology tech full-time, and she honestly could not believethat all dictation isn't done by machine, since their particularreports are canned.
I laugh at the thought of some of these new residents trying to do anything close to a canned dictation. I swear they race each other to see who can get to 10K words first on an HP.
but ya, boo to the schools who really do falsely advertise.
Can I take a quick poll? How many of you are sick of seeing ads promising....sm [2008-11-15]
Be a medical transcriptionist, fast start-up, make 60,000 plus your first year!!!! Guaranteed!! It makes our profession look like a get rich quick scheme instead of a vocation/career/profession, and they never talk about the difficulties newbies can face getting IN to a great position.........I just think it is so misleading and hurts the profession, and I worry about young girls/moms trying to make a living, what do you all think??? Especially since this site uses their advertisements, more truth in advertising perhaps???
I completely see where you are coming..sm [2008-11-14]
from and those are all good suggestions. I really hope they aren't trying to edge me out. I haven't had any problems with them. See the thing I like about this place is unless they need to talk to you then you really don't hear anything from them. My manager, I never get an email, IM, nothing, very rarely. They act like they are happy with my work. They haven't said any different. So as far as attitude goes they don't communicate with me enough to really even know what kind of attitude I have. Honestly I do the work and the money is direct deposited and I never talk to them unless I go to them for some reason which is rare. My work goes directly to the client and I have worked on this account for 1-1/2 years now so I rarely have blanks. I pretty much know the docs in and out. As far as the amount they have to pay me well I only make .075 cpl so I can't imagine they are trying to get away with less than that.
As far as applying and sending resumes out I don't even get phone calls for them to see how my mannerisms are. I have gotten very little email replies most just to say they aren't hiring cause I send resumes to places that aren't even advertising for jobs. Just in case they need someone. I have showed my resume to a fellow MT who has 10 years exp and she thought it was fine. They either aren't hiring or they are insistent on 2 years or they want acute care, which my exp in is slim.
Thanks for the suggestions though as far as to watch how I present myself.
One thing I think may be the problem is I think they may have more MTs than work. I noticed there are probably 5 or 6 MTs on this one account I work on and there are only 2 docs. It could be there isn't enough work to go around. BUT that is why I asked for a backup account but they said all the accounts are fully staffed. I don't know.
I've met about 15 from the web... [2008-11-13]
...and keep in contact with bunches more. The longest relationships I have currently are with a group of 7 women I started talking to about 10 years ago when all of our kids were just babies. We've gotten together at least once a year, sometimes twice a year or more. We've flown out west to meet up with 2 of the gals for a weekend. I wish they lived closer. Then another set of folks, I've known and talked to daily for just a little over 6 years. Three of us are admin of an online gaming league together, and again, we talk constantly - email, phone, IM...one day we will meet I hope, but I've met 9 men and women from the game league in real life, and 2 have stayed at my home. Then I have my MT friends who I've worked with at different points in time who I speak to just about daily. It's no wonder my phone batteries are always dead.
Being afraid to meet them or talk to them on the phone was never an issue with me. Sure I am aware of the dangers involved, but hours upon hours chatting in IM on the phone, sharing stories & confidences, common interests, family pictures, talking to their significant others, etc., erased any kind of fear for me.
Don't get me wrong, I don't just talk to anyone, I'm cautious of who I let into my online world, and so far, I've chosen my friends wisely repeatedly.
I came across my best friend online, but I have yet to meet her face to face sm [2008-11-13]
I have known her for several years. We talk a couple of times a day. I have never seen her face to face, but I could not live without her love and support and she feels the same.
I have given my number out several times recently. I have yet to come across a serial killer. They are all MTs. Without exception, they have all been wonderful. In three cases, we are all working on friendship. In one case, I think we will be close in time. We are very similar in many ways and I just think she is wonderful.
I have dated on line and we were together as a couple in person for a year. It was a great experience.
My view to be [2008-11-13]
It sounds like they are trying to edge you out. It may be your attitude, it may be the quality of your work, it may the amount they have to pay you versus others, it may none of these things or it might all of them.
When it comes to getting another job, much of it is how you present yourself. If you are poorly spoken (i.e. they call you up, ask for you, and you say this is her when you should say this is SHE) or you send a cover letter with your resume and use terms like I seen that in the newspaper or your spelling and grammar are not perfect because you didn't proof your email...trust me, they are watching and it all adds up to what you can or cannot do for the company. Lots of us network from time to time, myself included. I talk to A LOT of MTs on a regular basis and they are always asking me who to apply with and if I have an in somewhere. Sometimes I do have in somewhere, but when you IM me and say, and I quote, your great...well I am not suggesting you apply anywhere I work!
It had to be said. You have to be very careful about how you present yourself and your skills. You never know who is watching.
If it were me [2008-11-11]
I would probably not state an amount, but just ask for a raise and see what they offer, if anything. My experience suggests that, if they do offer anything, it would probably not be a whole penny per line, but maybe half that. If that doesn't satisfy you, at least you know they're willing to talk and you could try to negotiate for your penny. Who knows, they could offer more, but I doubt it.
Good luck!
I started out working for a company ...sm [2008-11-09]
that gave you everyone who worked there's IM and then the company who bought them out isn't that way. They don't encourage contacting other MTs working there. Which has not stopped me. I still have managed to get email addresses and then get their IM. It does help tremendously when you are able to talk to others on the same account as you.
YES [2008-11-09]
EXACTLY! I totally agree. I think if I could just talk to someone else that does this account daily I could improve greatly. I could also relieve some tension in my brain knowing whether or not the account is difficult or if I just need more experience. I can't determine which applies to me
Hmmm [2008-11-08]
Talk about sarcastic ...... ! Take it easy.
ICs in contact with others MTs from the same company [2008-11-08]
Do any ICs working for a company have the ability to speak with other MTs at the same company? I thought if I could just talk to other MTs working on the same account as me, I would have a better understanding as to whether or not the account is difficult or if I just need more experience.
I'm on Yahoo IM so yeah, [2008-11-08]
I can talk to others on my account.
lying on the web [2008-11-07]
I talked to a recruiter once who told me she could do 700 lines an hour (no, that's not a typo) of straight typing (expanders only, no templates). That's right, girls. 700 lph.
Talk about feeling small! 700 lines an hour???? My best is 400 template-able text.
I posted about it at the time & everyone seemed to agree this was not do-able. So I don't know. Anyway, when I heard that I was ready to throw in the towel.
