Question about microsoft word??? [2008-11-24]
Okay I am typing a interview and am wondering how to get all the words to automatically tab over so I don't go back and have to do it manually. It's like this
Interviewer: Response XXXXXXXXXXXXXX ffadXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
and all words of response need to be under the response. Hope that makes sense.

How many of you have used this or are using it? I never heard of it before and was wondering if it was worth the investment.

computer support snobs [2008-10-27]
I am sick and tired of impatient, snippy computer support technicians. Just because they sit around all day and play with their computers, they think everyone who does not know as much as they know is stupid. However, my job is medical transcription and I am darn good at it. So let them do their job and i will do mine. I am just asking for a little respect when I call them for help once in a while.

You need to download the conversion pack from Microsoft [2008-09-23]
website and then you should be able to convert your documents. Not sure if it will convert from Word 2003 or 2007 to WP5.1; however, WP5.1 can be converted to Word 2003 and higher.

Microsoft Word question (numbering) [2008-08-06]
I started with a new company today. Anyway, I got my review back. It said I need to turn off my numbering macro, the numbers should be flush left. Well, no matter what I do it always indents. I am working with Word 2000. I tried the help menu which did not help. How do you make it not indent the numbers? TIA.
Yes you can use Instant Text. Turn off DQS expander. Tech support can tell you how. [2008-07-29]
Call Instant Text and find out how to do this.
Tech support at Emdat [2008-07-18]
The absolute best thing to do, if you are having problems, is to call tech support at Emdat. (630)743-0500, extension 1. They are very helpful and patient. I don't know what version you have, but it sounds like it may be corrupted or possibly missing an update. I have never had the problems you are having. If you need actual tips on how to do specific things (maneuver around, find something), you can e-mail me anytime.
I have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic. [2008-07-16]
I got it on sale at Staples for around $60. When I used to work in a hospital, I had one for home and bought one to use at the hospital. They are not all that expensive and well worth it.
I also use Microsoft Natural Ergonomic and ... [2008-07-16]
just purchased a store-return new backup keyboard through Amazon for around $25 dollars ..
New, at my local CompUSA they were close to $60 regularly and went down to around $40 on special ... that store closed and I'm not sure where I would buy one now (most places do not carry them) ...the time and angst spent replacing a keyboard in a hurry is REAL and well worth preparing for (also keyboards keep getting redesigned which is really annoying when you're typing all day and have to switch in a hurry -- so it's great to have an old model on standby -- I last had to replace my keyboard when I popped off a key that was sticking and it went flying and I have NEVER found it ... it was an N)
I've found this particular model to be comfy and durable --- I didn't think I would like it and I really do -- it's quiet and has good key play.
My next purchase is going to be QuickLook Drug book on DISK since it can do wildcard searches of partial lookup -- my old web site for that changed and is not helpful and there are SO many bad Google entries.
Anything that makes you more comfortable with less fighting your desk also helps --- a decent chair and glare protection, a foot rest .
and SAMPLES when I start a new account I save almost every report I type, even if they are full of blanks -- which I fill in when I review my QA -- invaluable for saving time figuring out HP mumbles and particularly op note
I use RED NOTEBOOK from Horus development (link below) ...I am not aware of anything comparable ... it's searchable. You can, for instance, uploada hospital medical staff roster if saved in TXT, edit and print out lists, just fabulous for new accounts with new terms / medications/ names for things.
Good luck.
Never mind. I sent an email to IT tech support. Thx. nm [2008-06-26]

Verizon [2008-12-04]
Try uninstalilng norton and installing AVG free antivirus. Sometimes when norton upgrades they turn interfere with certain programs such as security. AVG is a free antivirus that can be found if you Google avg free - make sure you pick the free version. I have used it for sevearl years now and it has never interefered with interent (we have moved twice and had different providers) or with any of my platforms.
You are so right, I think [2008-12-03]
you speak for lots of MTs when pointing that out. This is a classic example of money-first, and people-who-make-me-that-money second.
Correct, and my sentiments exactly.. [2008-12-03]
Doesn't matter which natural or manmade disaster referenced, the fact remains our health information is going to someone who is not bound by law (as US health care providers are) to keep it confidential. As in your post, I don't give a rip if some greedy offshore MT has a job or not. We have heartbeats but we also have family to support.

Importer [2008-12-03]
Hello,
IT V Pro is compatible with theMedrite program.
The Importer is a feature within Instant Text that can convert your SH, AutoCorrect, and other abbreviationfiles into IT glossaries. As it is a tool within the IT program, the platform you are using has no affect on how the Importer operates.
For more information regarding the Importer, please see the link below.

1. When you made the switch and imported the ShortHand did you need to learn new commands or do anything different to expand your former Shorthand entries? (I just type an abbreviation and hit spacebar and get my expansion).
You can alsouse the spacebar to expand in Instant Text. You would type your expansion, hit the spacebar key and you would get your expansion just as you would in SH. For more information, please see the link below.

Thanks to everyone! sm [2008-12-03]
Thanks for all your help. I guess what I got from you all is the potential is very high for me to make even less money than I do now if it is not a good account. The fact that I may have to do almost as much typing for half the pay and double the work I guess is not worth the chance I would be taking. Thanks again!

Keyboard text stuck "on" [2008-12-03]
I hope someone can help me. I was trying to print the computer screen and for some reason could not and my husband came to help me and somehow he got the desktop text that normally shows up under the desktop icons to be stuck in the onposition. Does anyone know how to turn them off? My husband does not even know what he did to get them that way. We never were able to print the screen. If anyone can tell me how to turn off these desktop texts, please let me know. Just in case this helps, I have Windows XP PRO and a Microsoft erganomic keyboard. Thank you all in advance.
So you get a flash drive with voice files on it you are suppose to transcribe? [2008-12-03]
I'm trying to understand. Do you save the transcribed reports on the same jump drive? If that is the protocol, then wouldn't the MT before you typed any reports, then wouldn't they be saved to the flash drive?
If so, then you could open up the flash drive and if there are any Word files or text files, you open those up and see what they are. If they are transcribed reports, write the patient's name down and don't transcribe those notes.
Whatever the case may be, I would absolutely tell the office manager or whoever you are meeting with that you will type everything on the flash drive and that you expect to be paid for everything you type. You gave them freebies the last time and you're in this business to make money.

I need some advice on starting my own small side business. sm [2008-12-02]
First of all, I have worked for several nationals in the past few years, and equipment has always been provided. I currently have a f/t position with a national that I use my own personal computer for, they just put their software on it. I had what I needed already, as far as foot pedal, Expander program, etc.
I have just been sort of rolling ideas around in my head about possibly starting up something small perhaps on a p.r.n. basis just to bring in a little extra income. As I am still just mulling this around in my mind, my questions are: How do I go about getting started? Do I try to purchase equipment first, or start out using tapes? I am worried about spending the money and not having any takers, so I am thinking, I should send out some sort of letters first; but, without having the equipment already, how do I tell them I plan on doing their transcription. Maybe mention tapes first, and tell them I have plans to go digital after I get up and running? These are all just things I wonder about. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to email me with any advice.
I have been an MT for 16+ years, but as I said, I have always had all of the stuff provided for me and just don't know how to start.
Thanks in Advance!
See message [2008-12-02]
I don't know of any platforms, but a lot of the places I have worked have used secure FTP to transfer wav files which were typed either in MS Word or Open Office. This would definitely be the most inexpensive method, and a lot of people already know how to use FTP and MS Word.
Not always. Not after numbers and colons. [2008-12-02]
Depends on your version. 97 did that after numbers and colons and MS took it away with 2000.
IC and taxes/PTO time [2008-12-02]
Hi all.
I have been doing this and wanted some feedback from other ICs on how they handle the same.
I currently have 10% of my check put into an account for all taxes and 5% for PTO time, which should equal about 13 days a year, maybe more depending on how much I work. My husband gets floating days off (works at a casino) and gets 5 weeks (imagine that!) and I think I would like to work up to that per year. Currently at the 5%, I am at about 3 weeks, so not too far off. I am just not sure I want to have 9% taken out for vacation time. That seems like so much hehe Maybe I could increase by 2% each year and by 2010 be up to the 9% or 5 weeks off a year.
I do pool work, so taking time off with notice is not a problem. What I have done in the past is if I dont have enough PTO time saved, I work on Saturdays leading up to time off and after vacation to make up for lost days.
I so much want this to be more like a normal job I am working 8 hours and setting the $$ aside, so I think it will come together, but the PTO still throws me off!
My question is really how do the rest of you set aside for taxes and paid time off? By percent or dollar amount?
Escription [2008-12-02]
I have never used eScription before and was wondering what the down sides to it are, if any. I assume it does not count lines. Could anybody enlighten me as to what their experiences are with this program?
Thanks in advance for your help!!
eScription [2008-12-02]
I am currently using the eScription platform and don't seem to mind it at all. A lot of the docs aren't recognized yet, so it's stilly typing as usual. The ones that are you simply correct the typed report and it can be kind of fun, especially some of the things the computer comes up with!
There are a lot of new Keystrokes you can use to become mouse free as they hope, but I find I still use my mouse a lot!
Hope this helped...
Shorthand [2008-12-02]
When playing out your shortcut, do as you would for normal typing by holding down the shift keyof the first letter of the shortcut and it capitalize the first letter.. ShortHand will also expand all lower case entries into upper case simply by doing a caps lock. Hope this helps.
Which is better? [2008-12-02]
I currently use ShortHand and will be moving to a company that uses Instant Text with Medrite. Was told that my Shorthand could be converted somehow to use within Instant Text or I could use the Medrite expander. I really just want to use Shorthand, but if I cannot, does anyone know which way would be better -- to put my Shorthand expansions into the Instant Text or the Medrite system? When they do this, will my Shorthand basically work the same? Any info greatly appreciated.
More money with eScription? [2008-12-02]
That's what I was afraid of is that if the correcting is too much than how could I possible make more money than doing regular transcription. I thought it might be possible to do twice as many lines per day by editing rather than transcribing, which is what I would need to do to make the same pay.
I know. It is nuts. It's even [2008-12-02]
more nuts to read MTs on here defending poor little Indian MTs trying to steal our jobs. Maybe they'll see things differently when they get pink-slipped.
