I did my LPN and RN both online. St. Louis, MO. and SD both have online degrees.
Nursing classes online. [2007-09-19]
I honestly didn't know you could go from an LPN (earned at local college) to an RN (earned online). As far as I know, you have mandatory clinicals. You may want to check into another local community college if you have one. Does your local college not do testing? Here, admission is based on several things, including a pre-admission test.
Anatomy and Physiology online [2007-08-22]
Has anyone taken Anatomy and Physiology online? I am taking my prereqP online because the evening class was full. I cannot do days as I work part-time as an MT and have 3 little ones. I just want to know what to expect. What do they do to compensate for on-campus labs? Did you find you spent more time for the online class than you would have if it was a regular class? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
QUESTION..NEED ADVICE (DOUBLE BIND)..SM [2008-11-04]
Question:Anyone know of state (will go to ANY in US) ... that will let me sit for the LPN boards with Equivalent Education, ie, an Associate Some 20-somthing years ago, I dropped out of an AS program (RN)... intending to return. At least, I get at least my LPN take it from there. But, as of last June, my state
I was counting on being able to do that, work as an LPT while getting my RN in the meantime, probably online or so. PROBLEM: All programs I Can Even external degree programs like Excelsior College require LPN or Military, etc. to enter. (My neighbor, Connecticut, allows sitting for the LPN boards after 3 AS semesters provided 1,500 hours of actual clinical experience are met. My 1-1/2 years, or 3 semesters, fall about 250-300 hours of that requirement, so I can I can neither can I take the last semester of the AS program.
Is there a state where I would qualifty to take the LPN boards with the 3 college-level AS semesters I have, which NY no longer allows? I Any knowledgeable advice would be appreciated.
Isweat shop hog for pennies. I'd even return to school for a few months to get any required courses I might need.
I am desperately search for an answer... any ideas? Need to get OUTTA HERE now.

I This sounds too good to be true. Does anyone know anything about this, and if so, please share!
RN....... [2008-05-10]
You might be able to get some preliminary classes out of the way, but you would definitely have to do your student nursing in an actual hospital and I don't know how they would set that up or oversee your work. My niece is an RN but she is taking classwork for pediatric physician assistant. She is doing coursework online through Vanderbilt University but she has to drive up (several hours one way) once a week to do actual work up there and seminars. It's that actual clinic work that you definitely couldn't do online, so not sure how they would set that up. Check it out.....you never know!!!

nursing reality check [2008-03-05]
I want to be realistic with you. About 12 years ago I was in a nursing program before I went to school for MT. I did the first semester and 1/2 and obviously the prereqs. I regret not finishing now but make no mistake how rigorous these 2-year RN programs are. I was married with 2 young children. It was VERY stressful. You are bascially at the school mostly 4-5 days per week - 2 days of clinicals at the hospital. If you aren't in class or clinicals you are in chec offs or practicing at labs. Not unusual to be at school practicing on weekends. Then, there are care plans to do for your clinical patients after your shift in addition to regular tests and skills checks offs in labs. I just want people to understand and be prepared. YOu need a very strong support system. There are those who work. I have heard full-time even. I have no idea how. I can only think these are younger students living at home. Not Moms with jobs, kids, and homes to take care of. I am not a single Parent and considered reentering the nursing program. I had to retake a few prerequistes. After retaking a few I ultimately realized this was just beyond me. I have 2 kids, a mortage, no spouse to help out and I cannot afford to quit working. In the end I have decided to pursue a business degree simply because I can take classes online without the added stress and hardship to my family. Having a calm family life is important to me because my youngest son has autism. We have quite enough to deal with. However, I am not discouraging nursing. Simply be prepared to work harder than you ever have. Also there is abullying problem in the nursing schools and nursing profession in general. Please be aware you need a thick skin. Docs can be tough but other nurses can to. Just want people to walk in with eyes open so they do not drop part-way through as I did. I guess I didn't have a passion for nursing or all of this would not have mattered - but there lots of people going into the nursing profession because of the high $$ right now and because MT is unstable. Good reasons, but nursing takes a lot more than just wanting $$. I learned that the hard way and decided to ultimately follow a different course. good luck.
I'm doing it too sm [2008-02-07]
I'm concentrating on taking as many pre-reqs as I can online through the local community college. I'm only taking algebra right now and I have never been a math person so it's a struggle.
When I am ready to give up, I ask myself, just how bad do I want this? If I fail and have to take it over again, so be it, but I'm going to try to do as well as I can anyway.
old hag looking into nursing - kat [2007-12-30]
I just turned 40. I had been in the nursing program 13 years ago. Didn't finish due to family problems and subsequent divorce. Oh how I wish I had. About a year ago after raising a couple of kids through infancy and preschool and elementary I on a dwindling MT salary I started back taking prerequits. I was told I had to retake a few classes (A and P 5 year shelf life) and they had added few others (Pharmacology, Lifespan Development, and a Chemistry with a lab). So Passed the Nursing Enteract Test (NET) last spring. Got onthe waitlist and 2 more prequistes to take. (second half of anatomy and pharm). I hope I will be in the program next fall. I have no idea how I will be able to swing finances for the next 2 years while in the program. I am hoping to continue MTing part-time, get a few loans/financial aid, and family help. I am not 40 and wonder if I am absolutely crazy. But as the sole supporter of 2 boys (now 15 and 9) I really need to make a change. Mt just doesn't do it anymore. We barely make the bills anymore.
CNA test [2007-12-04]
What does the CNA test consist of? What is the best course to take and where online, how long did it take you? Soon to be student in the northeast.
Don't know if this helps... [2007-11-20]
I believe Kaplan onlyoffers Associates RN to residents in Florida (presumably for clinicals???). However, just yesterday I checked with my local community college and they are offering an online RN program! Clinicals are1 or 2days a week at a local hospital. The rest of the classes, however, are online. Perhaps your local college is offering that as well? The only obstacle I can see is that they require previous direct patient care. Oh, I asked and MT is not considered direct patient care...dang! I'm going to see if they will accept volunteer patient care (most hospitals/hospice will let you volunteer).
Sorry, this doesn I With nursing, though, the opportunities seem endless.
PS. I also checked into Excelsior online to CLEP some college courses in order to be able to apply for nursing school by their March deadline. If I had taken a whole semester, I would have had to wait for my grade in May and not apply again till September. Turns out, the local college allows you to CLEP at the school for only $60. Hope this makes sense! Good luck!
I have been considering nursing also. [2007-11-15]
Graduated from high school then a 10 month medical transcription program with no other college. Do you have any college? Is the Kaplan Nursing School you mentioned the online school? Why did you buy entrance exam books? Will Kaplan take you from start to finish for an R.N. with no other college courses? Sorry about all the questions. So curious. I really feel like I could have a leg up on other students as well with my 18 years of anatomy, physiology and terminology. Just trying to work up the courage and find a way to get it down while still working.
MT to nurse [2007-11-13]
I have not finished school, so cannot answer NCLEX test, but you will have a giant leg up on other students when it comes to your anatomy and physiology classes as well as basic pharmacology. Not to mention, you already know the language, and they don't. It is because of my prior knowledge and the fact that I don't have to study some of the stuff as much sa others do that I am able to continue working while in nursing school with no problem.

Where to find [2007-09-18]
Where do I find nursing classes online?? Most of the ones I have looked at you have to be a LPN or LVN first (LPN to RN). I do not think I can stand being on a waiting list at the local community college for 2 more years. It is too depressing.

nursing [2007-07-16]
NO, but I am in my mid 30s and considering it. My sister is a nurse and they way I look at we both have many years before retirement. I was looking at taking a bunch of online courses.
Thanks mting. sm [2007-07-16]
I'm planning to take some nursing preparatory courses too. If you don't mind, mting- please give me a link to the online school of your choice.
I wish you the best on your new career.
Graduate Nurse [2007-05-14]
Hi! I just finished the RN program at the local community college, and I I am 41 years old, am married, and have two children. I worked full time and part time as an MT during the past three years (my employer has been very flexible with me...probably because I have worked for them for about seven years). Be careful about thinking you can transfer your AP courses. At the institution I attended, they required that you take anatomy and physiology I and II again if you took them longer than five years ago. You really want to have all your prerequesites out of the way before you start your nursing classes. That I already had almost all of them done, but I had to take the AP classes, microbiology, a speech class, and this Choices for Life course. My parents were VERY supportive, and my husband did the best he could. During clinicals, we had to actually be at the facility ready to go at 6:30 a.m. Let me know if you have any questions.
I wonder if you can test for the RN program sm [2007-04-15]
In my state, there are RN programs that I believe allow you to test to see what you If I were you, I would contact that local community college and ask questions. The other thing is you must do clinicals, but I wonder if you could do like part-time transcription and go to school at the same time? I would look into it if I were you. I think you Good luck to you!
RN school... [2007-04-15]
Actually, I have a lot in my favor as I went to this exact school 6 years ago and got my associates in Liberal Arts/Humanities and Social Sciences. So, I probably already have a few of the prerequisites under my belt and the terminology along anatomy and physiology. I will be working 30 hours a week while going to school as this is my only option. I have 3 kids and cannot afford not to work as my husband makes ok money, but not enough. They are the reason I am doing this. I want more for them. When your paycheck barely pays for groceries and not much else, it makes you want to cry. I think I am making the right choice. So far, everybody I have spoken with about this says the same. Nobody has anything discouraging to say.
Thanks for your input.
Stethoscope repair [2007-03-02]
Hello~ Ia respiratory therapist. He has a LIttman Cardiology III stethoscope and the tubing broke. Can he replace ONLY the tubing? His earpiece/part and the chest piece (not sure what it I They start around $65. I did fine only one site that sells JUST the tubing and it Seeing as money is tight right now, the $20 is a lot more doable. But what I wonder is, how do you get your earpiece/portion into the tubing? It looks like it would be hard to shove it in there yourself. Is it easy to fit the pieces back into just the tubing yourself? I really appreciate any help!
