I trained through Meditec [2008-03-21]
After completing their MT course, I went though their intern program, then started working for them.

My son was completely trained during the day [2007-12-29]
but I still put pull-ups on his at night and every morning he woke up wet. I finally realized that it was still warm so it happened just as he woke up. I figured that he knew it was okay since he had on a pull-up. As soon as I put underwear on him at night it stopped. He knew to get up and go to the bathroom first thing each morning. I can honestly say he never wet the beg again. Now my daughter.....another story.

I trained with At-Home Professions [2006-09-23]
Luckily I hired on with a hospital that really, really needed a Transcriptionist and then with another hospital that paid more for a trainee, but there are companies out there who hire people fresh out of school. I worked for Spheris for a while and remember in the training phase and conference calls that there were quite a few fresh-out-of-school people so they might be good to try. There is a website http://www.mtjobs.com/where a lot of the companies state no experience necessary, they may be good to try. I'm with the others who posted, try and try again because eventually someone will say yeah sure, we'll give you a shot. Then it's a good idea to see about getting a mentor, someone who's willing to answer all your questions, because there will be tons, someone who understands what it's like to be new and wont think your questions are dumb. Oh,and don't let others discourage you, there are so manywonderful people on these websites and forums, unfortunately it'soften the negative, mean-spiritedpeople who end up answering people's questions, don't let them scare you off.

Working? Where did you train? [2008-02-11]
I Just wondering where everyone trained and if your working as an MT. Thanks! Christy

Thanks for the replies! more... [2008-02-11]
I was enrolled at my local CC and they dropped the MT program. Wasn't a great one anyway. I feel really good about CS through Everett Community College! At least I'll have real instructors instead of going straight through CS! I also get to use my pell grants! I also posted this question on the main forum. Wonder why no one is replying there. I know not many like CS, but I would think they wouldn't mind sharing where they trained and if they are working. Thanks a bunch for replying! Christy

Overwhelmed! [2008-01-18]
I am a self-employed WAHM-MT. I do not have a degreeMT, was trained 10 years ago by the same client I am contracted with now. They had 4 phys. when I started and it was myself and an in-house MT. I had 1 child then, who napped 3-4 hours a day, so I worked before she woke up, during her naps, and after she went to bed. 10 years later andseveral children later, they now have 6 drs. and 3 np They no longer have an in-house MT, just myself and another WAH MT. There is more than double the work, and less workers, but unfortunately they canmath and figure that out. They refuse to let me subcontract someone to help me. They refuse to hire someone else. They used to demand 24 hr turnaround, but now thank goodness they have at least realized that they can However, after 2-3 days they are complaining and calling me on the phone wanting notes typed and faxed. They refuse to telecommute, so I am still picking up tapes every day. I have a set amount of hoursI work a day, because I have a family to care for and there is only so much work I can do in a day. That is why I work at home. However, they don I have been working my normal M-F hrs, but I am so backed up that I still have 2-3 days worth of typing left on my desk by the end of the day. It is a vicious cycle, because for every 2-3 tapes I get done in a day, they give me 3-4 the next day. If I am still backed up on Fridays, they expect me to work on Sat and Sun, or on holidays, to get caught up. If I did this, I would be working 7 days a week. I told them I would like to avoid working on my days off. I don Apparently the other at-home MT does this for them, or at least they think she does, because they used that bit of information to try to manipulate me into working this weekend. I really am at a loss of what to do. I need the job, but at the same time, I have children who need me. I dona week. Does anyone else out there have this problem or feel this way? They will call me and want me to stop fixing my children It is like they want me to neglect my children, which I cannot and will not do. In the past, I have looked at finding another client, but most in my area want someone with a degree. If I don My husband is looking for a better job making more $ so I can either quit and find another line of work, but nothing has turned up so far. Does anybody out there charge extra for working over a certain amount of hours, or a certain amount of lines? Any advice? Well, I don Thanks for letting me vent.

Yes... [2008-01-18]
I have been through the same thing. I am a mother of two who has had some schooling, but mostly trained on the job. I am self-employed, as well. While working for a national, I was told that I couldn't take the time to feed my baby, or even have a bathroom break...YES I WAS TOLD THAT. So, I left and decided to do things on my own. What I do is sit down and list every activity we have going on for that week (we even play 2 basketball games on Saturdays and have lots of traveling to do that day) and fit work in. I typically like to work M-F, but there are times when I work on Saturday, as well. I have a 24-hour TAT, so as long as I get my work in on time, I am doing okay...still having time with my family and time for work, as well. As far as Holidays, I don't totally write them off of my schedule..if I have work available then after I spend time with my family and the kids have gone to bed, I work. It can be very frustrating, but once you find the balance between home (family) and work, you will feel free as a bird (and less overwhelmed). I sure hope this helps!

Often the 2nd, 3rd kids train earlier, easier than the 1st.sm [2008-01-06]
They see the other older kid(s) using the bathroom and they want to be like the big kids, so they take to training earlier and easier. My bro's kids, the first one was 2-1/2, the second one barely 2, and the third was only 1-1/2 and practically trained herself. There is hope!

Good luck training the 10-month old when [2007-12-24]
that time comes. My kids are 14 months apart and I just potty trained the first one when the second one started walking. The older one decided since the younger was walking and still in diapers, she could go back to diapers too. So I ended up potty training the first one all over again at the same time I was potty training the younger. Because the older reverted back to refusing to use the potty chair, I started potty training the younger one at a year old. Took about 1 month. Thank goodness too! The younger one was so much easier since she had already seen big sis using the potty chair and kinda knew what it was about.

I can relate sm [2007-12-21]
There are no easy answers. Toilet training takes a great deal of patience and for some kids, a very great deal of time too. There isnfully trained at 18 months. For one thing, children are not physically capable of holding urine until they are AT LEAST 28 months old. If you don't believe me, see the paragraph above. I have heard that they are not ready to train until they can ride a tricycle, going forward, on their own with some speed. I found this to be true of only one of my now grown kids. Take her out and get her some pretty big girl panties and let HER pick them out. DOn't get the sponge center training pants because they feel like a diaper. You want thin, regular panties because when they wet and the cold air hits their fanny it will shock them. Know that they will get stained and horrid, but it is in the name of progress. Don't make night time dryness an immediate goal. Strive for daytime potty training first and exclusively, diaper at night. Don't make a big deal of this. The child will tell you when they are ready to let that diaper go. Mine did and none of my 3 wore a night diaper much past age 3-1/2. Don't get into a power struggle. Stickers may not be enough. I had a pediatrician tell me to use M&Ms, 2 for a pee, 5 for a poo when my daughter was being stubborn. The advice is NO OTHER TREATS and make her work for the M&Ms or whatever very small sweet treat you use. I thought this was dead wrong, I didn't agree, but I was desperate because she was going to be 3 in less than a month with no progress. I needed M&Ms for only a couple of weeks because she got used to using the potty and got tired of the M&Ms. If you use a little potty seat, a good idea, take the little guard thingy off of it so it looks like a regular tiny toilet. Those guards are treacherous. And um, toss the seatbelt out too, they are just cruel. As for not minding a loaded diaper, some girls are like that. I finally gave up on my girl and let her sit in it until she asked to be changed. During the first week of this nastiness, her godmother came to visit. She walked in the door and had a fit over the smell, traced it to the kid and told her she smelled horrible, disgusting, awful and asked her how she could stand to be that way and furthermore, little girls who pooed their pants didn't go in HER car for Happy Meals. She never would sit in it again and shortly afterwards decided the best way to handle poos is on the potty seat. I am reminded of what I have heard several times. Your child WILL learn, she WILL get out of diapers because no kid wears diapers to school. This is not true, but once they get there someone will laugh and that is the end of the diaper.

Right, well this is my first [2007-12-21]
and I I have just always heard that you should start to potty train at 2, and also heard of some children fully potty trained even earlier than that. She's an extremely smart little girl, just obviously not ready... I guess I was just wondering if I should be trying to get her going or if that will just set us back. I'm sure I'll do better when my 10-month-old gets there!

Try [2007-10-16]
Meditec.com for their course. They have like 3 different ones depending on your needs and it is good training.

It's Hard [2007-01-31]
It was hard at the beginning, but I've been doing this for over three years so I guess I'm just used to it. Although sometimes I'd rather sleep in the morning than get up and work. I understand the issues with potty training. My daughter was very hard to train and has only been fully trained for about 3 months and they wouldn't take her in pre-school until she was. To answer your question, I sleep from 4:00 a.m to 9:00 a.m. Luckily my daughter sleeps in with me and my 13 year old gets herself up and ready for school by herself. I don't work Friday nights and try to get to bed early.

MT training [2006-09-08]
Check out www.aamt.org for a list of schools they have officially approved. I graduated from MTEC (www.mtecinc.com) and got a great education. They do provide placement assistance, and employers recognize them for having a reptutation for turning out well-trained grads. Good luck with your decision.

Any GREAT advice on getting human urine odor out of a pillowtop mattress? sm [2006-08-27]
Hi everyone! I am in a major hum here! I have this great mattress that I dearly love and is quite expensive. My son has been potty trained for months without an accident. Frankly I thought he was not going to have them....wishful thinking, huh? Well last night he decided to come to our bed - and had an accident. We have a pillowtop....It has been almost 24 hours....we tried a small spot of 409 (I know sounds crazy but that is all we had). I read on the internet about rubbing alcohol or vinegar....Anyone ever fixed this type of problem? Thanks....I hope too much time has not passed already!

I got my diploma through PCDI too [2006-08-25]
and was totally and completely not prepared....I was blessed enough to land a job at the hospital, where they more or less trained me wholly. I would look for a local jobfirst because, true, most, if not all, at home companies require a few years' experience. I got an at home job that requires 2 years with only about 14 months' experience, so keep at it and keep testing. Good luck!

To NC Newbie [2006-07-11]
It sounds like you have a great work scheule also. I work for a local service and do nephrology work. Just a question regarding your 3 year old, is she potty trained? My daugher is so stubborn, she won't budge and it's making me crazy. Any tips? I've tried almost everything I can think of. I love the new forum too.
