transcription jobs in puyallup [2008-01-16]
Does anyone know of companies near puyallup that are hiring employees with benefits. I have done transcription for 16 years at home but do not want to be self-employed. I was self-employed forsix years. I was then employed with a company for seven years. The company I am with now I have been with for almost three years, but they do not provide benefits.

I Don't Blame You [2007-10-24]
I'd be exhausted to with twins, although now I suspect it's a lot easier since they aren't babies. I also have a 13 year old who is so helpful, she's like my built-in babysitter. My 4 year old keeps my husband and I young. My husand joked when he found out I was pregnant that he wouldn't be able to play with the baby when he/she got older because he'd be in a wheelchair. LOL.

So, you are going to leave coding to do transcription? sm [2007-08-06]
I was going to do just the opposite and leave transcription for coding. Could you say why you want to do this? Thanks!

True, the site is for transcription in general. [2007-04-27]
In response to Deb No, the site is not geared toward Medical specifically. However, I believe anyoneinterested in transcription in general will benefit from the site.

Wow! All this time I thought I was the only one who worked full-time [2008-11-28]
transcription and homeschooled my kids!! I have to do a lot of juggling around with my work hours to make it work, but I For those of you who are making it work, approximately how many hours a day do you spend with school? I also wonder if your husbands are good about helping out. My husband seems to think his day is over at 5:00 sharp, when he comes through the door and puts his feet up in his Lazy Boy. My day ends at 2:00 in the morning! How do you all manage to juggle this life? If anyone out there would like to correspond, please do! This life can feel a bit lonely. I mean, it I'm becoming a bit like Howard Hughes - minus the long nails and the germ phobia...

Doing both daily... [2008-11-05]
Don't know how old your child(ren) is/are, but my son is 9 and I finally found a program that makes my job as teacher much easier. I'm using Switched-On Schoolhouse (from Alpha Omega Publications) this year for three subjects. That means my son can be working on his schoolwork on the computer while I'm doing transcription work on another computer. He occasionally has a question or needs help, but this rarely takes more than 2-5 minutes and is often just needing a clarification on a question. You have to be really creative in your approach, and I get up really early to start work before he's awake. He gets up, reads his devotional, does his chores (animal care) and usually makes his own breakfast (it's usually microwaved oatmeal or cereal, but he's learning how to cook eggs), then gets started on schoolwork. Don't get me wrong - I don't ignore him the whole time and we do take a few minutes together when he gets up, even though I'm supposed to be working. It'll take some time, but you'll fall into a routine. It may not be perfect, but it'll do until you figure out a better way. Hang in there!

Yes...takes some strong will though!! sm [2008-10-28]
I have 5 childen at home of ages 2, 4, 13, 14, and 16. I have been doing transcription their entire lives. Your best bet, if you do not need the insurance, is to work on a part-time basis and go from there. Try the minimum number of hours and see how it works. Usually you can start adding hours. Being part time also relieves a lot of the stress and pressure we put on ourselves to achieve full-time status. It gives you the option to work 4 hours or more each day, but at least you know if you got your 4 hours in you will not lose your job! Most companies will gladly have you work extra hours if you ask. I always keep the little one contained close by. I gate off or close/lock doors to keep them contained nearby. I try to work facing whatever direction they are playing in. I try to find activities etc that keep them occupied. I cannot tell you how entertaining a roll of tape is for a child. They will go around taping up everything, including themselves, but provides a long period of entertainment and thus an uninterrupted time to work. If you want to do it, you can. Good luck! Email me at jerrilynoliver@yahoo.com if you want to talk more.

Wanting to switch companies [2008-07-27]
I am an experienced MT currently employed as an IC for a small transcription company in Nebraska.I do enjoy working for this company; however, I especially love that I do not have a set schedule. I am contracted to type a minimum of 1000 lines in a 24-hour period - VERY easy. Does anyone know of any other companies like this? Thank you for any suggestions!

Truthful advice [2008-07-23]
I just recently got married and I am working in-house at our local hospital. I LOVE getting out of the house and going to work every day. I love what I do and want to stick with it. We will probably not be having children for at least a couple of years as my husband has a year left in college to get his business degree. I want to be able to stay home and raise my children, but I have seen what it has done to my mom. She sits at home all day in her PJs and type, type, types. I am just wonderng if any of you have any regrets about deciding to do transcription full time from home in order to be there for your children? This may sound a little selfish, but I donsometime to think about it, but it has been a topic that I have really been thinking about lately. What I would really like to do is stay at home with them until they are all in school and then try to get a job out of the house while they are at school. Have any of you made this transition? Any advice would be appreciated. I would just like a heads up before making any decisions. Thanks!

internship or not? [2008-06-23]
....I am a newbie, and as most of you already know, it is incredibly hard to find work as a newbie. I just wanted to get some opinions on internships with companies. I have also been offered a paid position with a medical transcription company that will monitor my work until I am able to go at it on my own. Is an internship more beneficial or should I just take the paid job? I know some may think this is a stupid question, but I want to make the right decision, as this will be a huge step toward the career I have been wanting for a very long time.

first step [2008-06-14]
Brooke: I want to commend you on going to church and the strides you are making to show a good example. But that may not be quite enough. It sounds as if your husband has an inkling that he needs to make some changes . However, I do still think that the suggestion for martial counseling with your pastor is important. From some of you have said it does sound like there are a few more seriuos issues than him simply taking you for granted. You make it sound as if he is controlling all the fiances and your behavior and actions through that. Now I understand being frugal but you stated he can spend what he wants but you afraid to even ask for 20 dollars to joint a Momgood now. But remember, again you are to be viewed in terms of good or bad or imply you deserve certain treatment do to past mistakes. In the end you shoudl provide for your future. I think every woman does need a saftey plan for financial security. Working part-time would provide you money to buy some things for yourself and also to join group. You need social support. Right now you are essentially isolated other than your husband and family. What about joinign a MOPS group through church? I am not sure, but dont' think there is a charge. You need a group of supportive peole other than your husband. Keep going to church - maybe your husband might get into the men's minsitry. This could serve two-fold. He could see and model from Chrisian men how they interact aand also how they treat their wives. It would also give him a social outlet. The two of you going out without kids is also good. remember so a combinatin of things. One thing (such as date night or occasional church service) isn't going to work. Pray together. Have yourchurch family pray for you. I undersatnd divorce is not an option. I salute your committment to your marriage but your husband has to be as committed. It cannot just be about YOU making changes. So pray for his change of heart and try to actively involve him. YOu must communicate with him. Not yell, no walk on egg shells. If you are afraid to talke to him why? Has he been abusive/ Were you abused in the past by someone? AGain if this the case you need immediate intervention. Bottom line God asks men to love their wives but he did not say control their wives or belittle their wives. Women should suport and love their husbands as head of household but not be afraid of them or cower to them....

so what would your response be? [2008-04-01]
would you just tell him, if you dont like how i clean as i clean everything around you, you can do it yourself? i guess i am not a witty person and am at a loss for the dialogue i need to get him to stop...

looking for insight [2008-01-24]
Hello All, This is my first post here. I have some questions about my current employment situation and was hoping for some insight from others who may have been in my shoes before. Basically, I have been working for a small transcription service for the last 2 years.I came into the field as a way to have a flexible, at-homeschedule for my school aged children and just to earn a little extra cash per month. I donformal MT training or education but because of the bachelorreally love the work, but after 2 years I am only making 7.75 cents per line. Each time I get comfortable with a certain discipline and begin to increase my line count, the employer switches the account I'm on and I'm back to square 1. Also due to the limited availability of the work she has right now, I'm only getting 5-10 hours a week, if that. Sorry to be so long-winded, I suppose I'm just wondering if 7.75 is a fair rate for 2 years experience and if I'm getting the shaft by being switched from 1 discipline to another every few months so that I am never able to increase my production/pay. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thank you.

Some ideas [2008-01-23]
These might work for you. I went to college and had three children and a full-time job (transcription). My employer let me work at home too and on a flex schedule, just had to get the work done and I aimed for weekends, but you may want to work pm - that works too. I had to be at the hospital at set times too, 6:00 - 3:30 three days a week for clinical and then two days a week at school all day long from 7:00 to about 4:00. I had my mom (thank God for moms) pick up my kids from school (they were a little older than yours). I picked them up from her house after I got out of school, about 4:30. I went home and then fed everyone, then baths were early and some homework and everyone had to go to bed early. Like at 7:00. They could leave the lights on and play with a toy or talk for a half-hour and then they had a half-hour of reading time - quietly after that and they mostly always fell asleep that way. I then had a few hours to do my homework (nursing school has lots of it) and clean up the kitchen, maybe type for an hour or two. I went to bed early as possible and listened to recorded lectures until I fell asleep. I got up every morning at 4:00 a.m. for four years. Even on the weekends. I listened to recorded lectures at those times and cleaned the house, made lunches, and did the laundry. It is peaceful at 4:00 a.m. and things you study are best remembered if you study for some reason. On weekends, I made up enough dinners for the rest of the week and froze them, typed reports for work (cramming 40 hours worth in is not easy. I did it with a little bit done during the week on lighter days, but for three hours without fail on Saturdays I went to the library to work on school stuff alone - my mom again! It helps to listen to lectures (recorded) while you drive and while you get ready in the mornings. I had a study group too (three of us) and that helped a lot. We divided up all the material we had learned before exam days and exchanged our notes and study materials in that way. I was married, but my husband was gone on business five days a week, so he was no help. Just get a pattern going and stick with it no matter what (except illness). It is easier to clean in the morning when kids are asleep. Get rid of all the extra toys and knick-knacks - you won't have to dust them or put them away if they aren't there. Make sure you have a freezer and a dishwasher because they are your best friends. If you can't fix dinner, eat out or get takeout, but be sure it does not become your only source of food. Plan ahead and you won't have to do that often. Sometimes I cheated and took all the clothes to the laundromat because you can do it all at once (like in two hours) in case that has fallen behind. Sometimes I thought I would lose it, but I didn't. I survived and graduated, did not get fired from my job and my kids are all okay. Take vitamins. Learn to like coffee! I never drank it until then. Good luck. You can do it!

you definitely are not alone...sm [2008-01-22]
I have 3 children ages 9, 7, and 3. I still wonder everyday how am I going to get it all done. I have had to give up on keeping the house as neat as I would like it...usually it is a FAR cry from neat really :) So, you may have to just learn to deal with a bit of a mess for now. There is a difference between dirty and messy, s dont sweat the messy. Iagree with the other poster that working as an employee is probably making it more difficult. I am not a morning person AT ALL! I often will work after they all go to bed til 1-2 a.m. Maybe talk to your employer and see if they have any job positions that are more flexible? Wish I had something helpful to add, but just really wanted to encourage you that it is a common battle we fight and there is a way through. Good luck!

IC status [2008-01-18]
They can choose to contract or employ someone else to do their transcription if they do not like her methods, but per IRS they cannot tell an IC how to get the job done. Who is an Independent Contractor? A general rule is that you, the payer, have the right to control or direct only the result of the work done by an independent contractor, and not the means and methods of accomplishing the result.

If her contract states that she is doing the [2008-01-18]
transcription, then no way can she subcontract it out. They have a right to select who does their work.

WORKING WITH LITTLE ONES... [2008-01-05]
It is definitely tough to balance work with small children (or any age children for that matter), but it can be done. I have been an MT for 10+ years and my kids are 15, 8, and 3. Some days I just want to take a Calgon bath, but I It took me a long time to realize I couldnjust because I work from home. If I don So yes, making more than $100/week IS possible and you can do it. Even after 10+ years, I still treat my career with probably too much leniency (taking breaks and eating way too much-haha, going to the store, etc), but I do still manage to make around $500/week. Thank God my little one is about to start school...so now I can make some REAL money with less effort! : ) I think I'm just lazy - that's probably what it boils down to! HA!

I'm getting another job too, but... [2008-01-03]
I still plan to do transcription part-time. I figure if I can find a part-time night job I can avoid paying for daycare, which would be over $700 per month for both of my kids. Considering I don I don I also agree with what some others said about looking for another transcription job. You could also type up a quick letter and send it to local doctors You might just find a great job! Hope it all works out for you.

Discouraged [2007-12-31]
I agree wholeheartedly. Corporate America is public enemy no. 1, not just for us, but for many workers and small business owners who are fed up with corporate greed. This is why John Edwards may well win the Iowa caucus and perhaps be the next President of the United States. I too would not advise anyone to consider medical transcription. I would rather go homeless than work in sweatshop mode for Medquist or any of the other transcription giants that pay in the neighborhood of 6.5 cents per line.

Don't hold your breath... [2007-12-31]
Transcription companies and hospitals are increasing production rates and/or decreasing CPL, which means you have to work even longer hours to earn the same pay as before. The work itself does get easier after a few years, but it never gets to where you are not having to stop frequently to look up a new drug or rewind the dictation over and over to determine what some ESL doctor or a sloppy native speaker is saying. What we need is a Norma Jean of medical transcription or some federal labor laws regarding home employment. At first they were happy to save money by having us work at home. Now they are taking advantage of the fact that so many people want to work at home and the trend is towards paying us the equivalent of minimum wage. Some of you may be willing to do it, but I'm not.

Honest work from home job. [2007-10-24]
I am currently doing a Transcription course from home, its taking longer to complete than I thought. Can anyone give me info. on honest at home work?

Working at home [2007-10-12]
I guess I am lucky. My son is almost 2 and I was pulling my hair out because it never failed if I was busy he was cranky. But my neighbor(and dear friend) has some health problems and cant really hold down a regular job and offered to come over in the morning so that he can play in the yard on his toys and in his room (without me having to jump up every couple of minutes to assure myself he was okay). She feeds him, watches him play, and does some lite house work for about $25 dollars a day and because he gets to go out and play he usually goes down for a nap by 12-1230 and she leaves and on days when she needs to do errands he goes with her. I dont know what I would do without her. I know the pay isnt much but that is all she will accept so I try to supplement by giving her groceries, taking her with me when I do my errands so she can save on her gas and I watch her son (he is 8) usually one night on the weekend so she can relax. Hope you can find a happy medium cause the do exist. Stay strong and keep tapping.

work from home [2007-09-26]
I have been working for a transcription company for a year with on the job training. The company hassincegone downhill as to accounts have gone elsewhere and other things. I am looking for any ideas as to a company that would hire me. I am a stay at home mom trying to make some money and take care of her family. Any suggestions.

starting out [2007-09-24]
I am just finishing my school for medical transcription and am a single mom who is also homeschooling my 6-year-old son. I went to dental assisting school and worked in the dental field for 5 years. With what is being taught in most schools these days I decided to quit my job to be home with my son and homeschool him. I am encouraged to hear that it is possible and to get a few idea We do a paper route right now to pay bills so I am getting used to those early morning hours. I was planning on doing at least 3-4 hours in the morning and maybe 2 hours in the afternoon and another 3-4 hours in the evening. I really liked Sue Ellen Only through God can weaccomplish anything. Please if anyone has any suggestions for someone just starting outI would love to hear them. God Bless, Monica Felmley

What should I be charging? [2007-09-21]
I have my own transcription business (which only consists of me)and I My current job pays me $5.00/page. I would like to charge cpl because that is usually how it is done. I sent out a few resumes and said I was charging $.12 per line. I am going to be sending out a lot more and would like some advice if I I live in a community where the average house costs about $300,000. Does anybody have any advice? Should I keep it at $.12 per line or go a little lower? I have been working for 3-1/2 years and I have not attended any formal training. I If I pick up another job, I Right now, since I have to stay home with my kids, this is what I opted to do. I was fortunate enough to have my chiropractor hire me with no experience. She has been very happy with my work and I Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.
