The character of Erica Hahn was dismissed and this week will be her last episode. I think the rumblings were that maybe ABC wasn't happy with the Erica/Callie relationship.

Ok, Idol fans, how did you like last night? [2008-02-21]
I was blown away by the little Filipino girl (sorry have not learned their names yet) and also the 2 after her, 10 thru 12. They actually saved the best for last I thought. Once again this year feel the girls are better singers, for the most part, than the guys. I do not care for the nurse/rocker girl at all and also on the male side the Peter Frampton look alike guy. The girls rock again this year!!

I think it is Dr. Phil who says [2007-10-28]
that use of sarcasm and lack of respect for ones spouse is the biggest risk factor for divorce.
It sounds like your husband thinks he is a lot smarter and busier than you are, so he's saying you are taking up too much of his time or take too long to say things that he already knows or aren't of any importance.
So he is definitely not your friend and he won't even pretend to respect you. He yells in anger. Your children are witnessing all of this.
(He'd fit right in at Dr. Phil's Man Camp).
Talk to your pastor or other counselor at church and ask them what to do. You need counseling to repair your self-esteem, and he definitely needs Christian counseling, because he is not treating you the way the Bible tells a man to treat his wife.

STOP!!!! BETTER TAKE A CLOSER LOOK [2008-10-22]
This is what I found when researching this:
Just Wondering asked the question; Do the Heat Surge Fireless Flame heaters that the Amish sell really work?
It is being advertised in the local paper (The Herald-Dispatch,Huntingto n , WV ). That it is a Miracle Heater. Saves Money: uses less energy than a coffee maker. Stay really warm and slash your heating bill all at the same time. It uses 1500 watts. It is 5119 btu. My question is. Is this really a Miracle Heater? Should I buy one for every room in my house and turn off the heat pump?

The ads (which are all over the country) are very misleading.
1. A coffee maker uses a large amount of electricity for about a minute. Itmiracle heater uses less electricity than a coffee maker DURING THAT ONE MINUTE. But you're going to have the heater running for a lot longer than one minute a day. So it's going to cost you a lot more to operate than a coffee maker does.
The heater will cost you around 12 cents per hour to operate. The average cost of electricity in the U.S. is 8 cents per 1,000 watts per hour, so 1,500 watts costs 12 cents per hour on average. This is true for ANY 1,500 watt electric heater.
2. The ads say that the heater produces an amazing 5,119 BTU (a measure of heat energy), but ALL 1,500 watt electric heaters produce 5,119 BTU. If an electric heater was 100% efficient, it would convert 1,500 watts of electricity into 5,120 BTU of heat. All electric heaters are nearly 100% efficient, and this has been true for decades. The miracle heater is no more efficient than any other electric heater.
3. The website of the heaterzone heating. See the Saves Money section of the website (www.heatsurge.com).
This is true, but it's also true for ANY electric heater. The problem is that a lot of people don't like to have just one room of their house warm while all the others are cold.
You DON'T want to heat your entire house by putting an electric heater in each room. That would cost you far more than central heat. Gas central heat, for example, would cost around half as much as having an electric heater in each room. (The exact amount varies depending on what part of the country you live in.)
If you want to get one heater and move it around with you, that would be cheaper than central heat, but you can get a lightweight 1,500 watt / 5,119 BTU electric heater with a fan for under $100 at your local hardware store, while the miracle heater costs $350 including shipping. The heater at your local hardware store won't have the Amish-made mantle and the fake flames, but it will work just as well. Make sure to get one with a fan, since it will warm up the room faster, although fans can be noisy.

be careful if you have environmental allergies [2008-10-21]
my son has severe environmental allergies and we were told to never hang out his laundry as pollen can attach itself to the clothing and make his symptoms worse. We are also to run an air conditoner, not use fans and never open the windows to help cut down on allergens. So much for frugality in our home!!! :(

We were old-time Folger's fans until recently, and I told my husband to change the type of coffee we were buying. Folger's tasted different, almost a bitter taste. I too used bottled water, and we changed our coffee pot too. It didn't work, so I am glad to know it was not just my taste buds that were off. It also smelled different.

Just a thought....... [2008-08-27]
We lived in an area where tree frogs and lizards were a daily thing, all over the place. Our dog loved it though. They usually plant themselves in areas where there are more abundant insects. Is there a light nearby? That will draw the insects as well. Put in a buglight which will cut down greatly on the bugs attracted and hopefully cut down on the lizards and frogs as well. But the tree frogs hung out all over our sliding patio door regardless. Of course, my husband and I are big fans of both, because once you start seeing them diminish overall, that's a bad statement for their environment, so we were pretty tolerant anyway. I do understand the falling on your head though. Just shake your door good before going outside! Good luck!

Problem with 5-year-old and dog [2008-08-04]
( Before asking this question, just to make sure, I am not paid for this message so typing errors will occur.)
We have three dogs, weiner dogs. Bear who was first, sister, then almost a year ago, Bob. My 5-year-old has started for a little while now, pulling his ears, tail, legs, anything he can or wants too. he will walk by and kick the dog. He covers him with blankets and lays on him. He will step on his tail. I have actually spanked his bottom more than once with no reactions and my common and everyday saying is leave the dogs along. I am tired of this behavior.
I saw a special Dr. Phil show that said somehting about killers hurt animals first?!!
I need some great advice to keep him and the dogs, mostly the dogs, safe from harm.
I believe to some extent it has something to do with having the I am bigger than something/one power trip. He has an older brother who is 12 and has been gone most of the summer to his fathers house. When the older is here they argue and fight about little things like kids do but I have a no hitting or hitting back policy and a I take your toys away policy. Still doesn't phase the kid.
I know he is only five but my next step, I am considering taking EVERY TOY away. This may be tough for such a young age but I don't know what else to do next.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? I NEED HELP!!!
PS
He is also getting into this habit of doing something bad and saying he didnlies happen and he tells me I am not a chicken. I have done this calling him chicken little twice. He will be going to kindergarten in about a week and I have tried to tell him that kids don The dogs still want to play with him too.
I am in no way a child expert but [2008-08-04]
What works with mine is taking privileges or toys away. I let her know that her behavior is unacceptable and there are consequences. Have you told him that that dog will bite him if he does those things?
As far as Dr. Phil My bro and I were very cruel to cats when we were little, throwing them up in the air, on dogs, in water andneither one of us grew upto be serial killers. I am not saying it is alright for him to be mean to an animal and yes he certainly does need to be corrected. Bro and I got caught doing that and got in big trouble more than once.
The only thing that kind of bothers me is this statement. need some great advice to keep him and the dogs, mostly the dogs, safe from harm. I sure hope I am misinterpreting this but it seems like the dog Could be the source of aggression perhaps? I do hope I am misinterpreting this.
Name calling won My child went through that. I do know you are probably frustrated and boy do I know how that can be. My children push my buttons as well. But they are kids. Most grow up to be decenthuman beings. good luck.

I feel for you mom, I can It sounds to me like, if he can behave for OTHER people, than it might not be a disorder. My cousin had a kid like that. If I were you, I would DEFINATELY get a 2nd opinion, it doesn You donI don He should have referred you to someone else. I would see what the 2nd therapist says, and go from there. You need to find one that is willing to work with you and your child, someone you and your boy are comfortable with, who will answer your questions and not give up on you, etc. If all else fails, there is always Dr. Phil...Good luck and keep us posted!
Teen Troubles [2008-07-19]
Can you say, Dr. Phil? If you are that desperate, I would definitely consider it.
You're the parent, she's a minor child [2008-07-16]
This is sadly too common. Your daughter is pushing your bottons in a big way.
I remember being that age and partying it up. One day it just became very boring and that was the end of it. Sadly, many people I knew didn't have it quite that easy.
My first real love and a friend of his were killed from DWI at 19. Not only did they hit a car with a family of 6 (who managed to live), the rest of us had 2 funerals to go to. The priest for my boyfriend's funeral was actually his uncle!
The pattern she displays is not good. Many good girls hit this age and venture into situations which they're ill-equipped to handle.
My guess is that she's doing plenty more than she says. It's not that she doesn't love you.
I have no idea how expensive it is to get a drug test done on her hair, but that may be one avenue. Of course, it'd be easy to get hair from a brush, etc. I have no idea how you could get a UDS unless you simply asked her point-blank for one (since she claims she has nothing to hide). I'm just not buying it, I'm sorry to say.
About 2-3 years ago a friend of mine from high school was found dead in her apt. from alcoholism. This was one of the girls who had parties at her house in high school. She didn't even live to see 50 and died alone, sick, and miserable. When I found out from another friend I was surprised at first, but started retracing backwards and it was clear as a bell. Her father was an alcoholic. We didn't realize the significance of alcoholism in previous generations like we do now.
I also agree with another post I read about that this is your home, so she needs to abide by your rules. Of course, Dr. Phil says that all the time, too.
I can't have kids, but I remember being one. Speaking of Dr. Phil, maybe you could check his boards, too.
It's so frustrating to get to this point, but just know that many here will support you and offer as much advice as possible, even if it may be from an MT without kids.
Please keep us posted, and best of luck to you.
Get out [2008-05-27]
I have a sister who has been in her marriage for 25+ years, miserable the whole time, stayed for children, now the 2 kids are in the same kind of relationship because that is all they know, learned behavior as Dr. Phil states, in the long run it hurt them for her to stay more than it helped.
Dear Melisa: It depends.... [2008-05-25]
what your gut feeling is telling you. I think you know if he loves you or not.
Do you want to stay or not? If one has so much doubt to stay in a relationship or not, I think it is time to let go before it gets too late.
How come that you still love him so much although he treats you so badly?
I do not want to sound rude, but according to what you told us, I would say that he does not love you (anymore). Besides, there are so many negative aspects for y o u in this relationship and I doubt that it will get better with time. You are being used.
Real friends tell you what's going to help you, not what you want to hear. I also doubt that a support group will help you in the long run, as he seems to be quite controlling.
Then, everybody has his own opinion, this will only confuse you, you have to come to your own decision, especially regarding marriage.
Sorry for being so blunt, but that's what I think. It's better that you get over it and move on.
Now I am sitting here and ponder if I should post this comment or not. Is it too rude?
Why don't you ask Dr. Phil? Sometimes he gives real good advice and counseling. I think your situation asks for expert advice.
I really wish all the best and be careful.........
My husband recycles (scraps). sm [2008-05-22]
My husband recycles/scraps and makes good money at it. If you have a scrap yard near by, your kids may want to check it out. You have to be 18 to get into the yards so you would have to go with them. This is more than picking up bottles along the road. He picks up things like TVs, vacuum cleaners, anything with a motor in it...ceiling fans, etc. You name it he has scrapped it. You have to break everything down into different components...copper with insulation, clean copper, cast iron, cast steel, aluminum etc. You have to take the freon out of A/C units and refrigerators. Scrap copper is $3 a pound here in Michigan.
I don't know where you live or what your kids have in mind, but it is a dirty job. I always tell my husband, where else can you get dirty and get paid for it. And my favorite part of his scrapping is watching the guy who runs the crane with the big magnet on it. I want that job when I grow up. LOL.
Good luck to your kids.

I said nothing to my MIL, nor did my husband, no matter how ugly her comments were, what lies she told, you name it. He is very nonconfrontational and said we should keep the peace, but it finally reached a boiling point last spring and I unloaded on her. All she could say was that she was sorry, that she had her own issues, blah, blah, blah. I now find myself very resentful towards my husband for not shutting her up on day 1. Long story short, that was nearly 30 years ago now and I SOOO wish these things had been said earlier. She knows where I am coming from nowand she knows we will not be her dumping ground any longer. Dr. Phil says we teach people how to treat us...Best of luck to you.

Good Comeback for Smokers (from a nonsmoker)! [2008-04-04]
from Fox News Channel dailygut.com or see below.
He's funny! I never miss the show!
friday's gregalogue: smoking bans and death
So I was reading the Economist - ha, just kidding - I am barely literate. Actually someone read it to me, and told me how American smoking bans have led to the deaths of many innocent people. By preventing people from smoking comfortably in bars, more folks die in fatal accidents involving booze.
How so? Well, researchers think smokers are driving farther to places where smoking is allowed - like places with outdoor seating, or my intricate system of tunnels near the overpass. And all that somehow leads to more drunk driving, and death. To which I add: Phooey!
I read of a far more intriguing theory: that smoking bans make restaurants more attractive to nonsmoking shut-ins, smarmy geeks who can't handle their booze, much less conversation. Finally, they take off their drawstring sweatpants, shave their pimply backs -and hit the town, where they get drunk and kill people. See - it's the callous and unthinking nonsmokers who are to blame - those stupid, fat nonsmoking jerks.
Look, I've always hated the smoking ban. I think the health threats from passive smoking are fabricated - and books have been written on the faulty data behind the research. Plus, smoking on the street blows - as a worldwide celebrity it's hard to puff when you're constantly kissed and hugged by adoring fans.
It's all just a scam to legislate behavior that people don't like, and has nothing to do with science. Fact is, if you let smokers smoke -only smokers die. That's it. Everyone else is fine. Which is a shame, because I'd really like to take a few vegetarians with me.
And if you disagree with me, then you sir are worse than Hitler.
Patrick Swayze has terminal cancer [2008-03-05]
http://www.ogpaper.com/news/news-01750.html
Patrick Swayze Cancer Diagnose: 5 weeks to liveSad news reports coming from Hollywood today, actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. According to a report first published by the National Enquirer, Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze has only 5 weeks to live, after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in January and the cancer had spread to other organs of his body. According to an insider, there is little hope left for Patrick Swayze, after the cancer failed to respond to the treatments. Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor within the pancreatic gland and each year over 30,000 individuals in the United States are diagnosed with this condition. The prognosis is generally regarded as poor, with only few still alive five years after diagnosis, while complete remission still extremely rare.
For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University was published in the gossip magazine. The story has not been confirmed by Patrick Swayze or his representatives and fans of the actor could only hope that the cancer story is one of the false stories, which often find their way to ink.

BUT he said if he cheated on me and I found out, that Iwould you rather be alone and healthy or sick with somebody.
I'm thin and my husband is [2008-02-24]
sort of like that too. Nothing like what Iporn creep. Another possible explanation is that he has an undiagnosed medical problem such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes, so that the only time his body responds is in the morning, when testosterone is highest. This isn it's a communication problem. Getting guys to open up and express their needs/concerns/issues is tough. I've always been impressed with the way Dr. Phil discusses the differences between men and women, and how issues can be resolved, but out of laziness I'm not motivated enough to push my DH to resolve his issues. He does show his love and appreciation of me in many other ways, so I'm just living without the physical side marriage 99% of the time. Oh, my DH claims to want sex, but he also expects me to attack him in whatever way it is he wants to be approached, and I'm stubborn in my believe that he's the one that should be coming to me. That's all it would take to get me turned on, and the fact that I've actually been rejected many times when I tried to make hints or even flat out requests has really turned me off. Nope, if he wants it, he can just approach me.
I think it was a pun [2008-02-20]
and not to be taken literally about his last name spelling. It has to do with the totality of the man and where he is coming from. I question why everyone keeps talking about religion of the candidate. His religion does not bother me. It is the political leanings that his congregation seem to hold that worry me. I think that all the BO fans should carefully examine exactly what he has to offer and who he really is and decide if anything about him that is concrete and of value to us as a country. So far, I see nothing and am holding BO in contempt for not showing up to his current job and voting for his constituents who elected him. What if he represents us in a similar fashion if he becomes POTUS? I just think he is so busy being an icon and popular that he is shunning his duty. I don't hold that lightly. I also see where Hillary did not show up to vote either. We need a better way to run elections as it seems that candidates always shirk their duties when one is going on and there ought to be a law against it. I don't know if JM voted or not, but would not be surprised if he didn't. Why do we pay senators and representatives who don't do their jobs? Even more to the point, why did we elect them in the first place?
