Any other Maroon 5 fans out there? [2008-11-05]
I took my 16 year old daughter to their concert this summer and came away a bigger fan than she is! Their music talks to me in a way no other has since the 60s (would you believe I Now I devour everything I can get my hands on about them. Great, great band!

Grey's Anatomy fans...did you see? [2008-11-04]
The character of Erica Hahn was dismissed and this week will be her last episode. I think the rumblings were that maybe ABC wasn't happy with the Erica/Callie relationship.

Any TrueBlood (HBO) fans? [2008-10-24]
The first time I caught the show I didn I just found a clip of an interview with the guy who play Jason (Sookie He Seems like a truly genuine nice guy (which is rare in Hollywood). If your interested I'm posting the link below. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=SRxwN3ZF6fcfeature=dir

Think I was too harsh in my comments to you sm [2008-10-21]
I apologize, I am very raw right now from undeserved treatment by DIL so when I saw your posting title, it bothered me. I love my grandkids so much that I would welcome a list of rules if one were presented to me. ItIf she persists, then she truly is in need of psychological help which is not up to you to provide. Give her the choice and if she chooses to keep it up, then youtalked to and given options. Good luck with it. Hate the sin and not the sinner. I once had to lay down the law with my sister and the Bible. I have made it clear that I won't tolerate Bible talk, she can come any time but the conversation has to be light, not inappropriate, not religious and no politics. It has worked pretty well, once in awhile she has a slip and has to be reminded but we are talking - no religion, no end-of-the world,no Jesus talk, it takes reinforcing every once in awhile. Good luck with it all, it's stressful.

funny read for George Carlin fans..sm [2008-08-18]
Ya gotta get to your nearest library and ask for this book. I'm laughing my butt off! Just the title alone is sure to offend at least 3 major organized religions and vegetarians. ************************************* When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops? by George Carlin Hyperion, 2004 295 pages, hardcover

Taking a poll here...how many say something to their MIL if inappropriate comments are made and how many just let it role off their back no matter how hurtful the comments are? and I don and I'm talking about a MIL that lives close and cannot be avoided.

Ok, Idol fans, how did you like last night? [2008-02-21]
I was blown away by the little Filipino girl (sorry have not learned their names yet) and also the 2 after her, 10 thru 12. They actually saved the best for last I thought. Once again this year feel the girls are better singers, for the most part, than the guys. I do not care for the nurse/rocker girl at all and also on the male side the Peter Frampton look alike guy. The girls rock again this year!!

Exactly. And these Obama fans need to give it up. I mean, we don't like sm [2008-02-19]
Obama for numerous reasons and some dumb email isn't going to change my mind either way.

Any Nancy Drew fans? [2007-12-23]
When I shopped for one of my nieces at Circuit City, I stumbled on a Nancy Drew computer game. I don We loved those books when we were kids, but I don My niece is 9, and youngest recommended age is 10. But it was only $20, so we got her one other little hand-held game that was only about $6, so at least she can play that right away.

Any Dr. Phil fans out there? [2007-12-13]

I got a jacket at a yard sale, still has tags on it. It is a Nascar jacket for Dodge/Havoline/Texaco with the initials BP on it. I am not a Nascar fan, but am trying to figure out which driver is (was) BP. I have tried Google w/o much luck. TIA

The ONLY good one was the first one; the second one had some good parts. After that it was all downhill for me. Yawn. Wouldn't you all rather dance than watch? Come on, get out there and quit living vicariously! I bet some of you could dance the sox off those people. Hayseed's man looks like he is ready to go! Hope she has her dancing shoes shined up and her bag packed in case he decides to enter the contest!

My husband and I both smoke! [2008-12-03]
This January we have decided will be it. It is no longer socially acceptable. My excuse has always been that I am afraid to gain a lot of weight. My brother quit after 15 years (early 30s) and he used Chantix. He was a 3-pack a day smoker. Let me tell you, he is so much better. No coughing. After 6 years of trying to have a baby and failing in vitro; they have just had a baby this November. They both smoked/him worse. They are now both nonsmokers for over a year, have gained weight, but have such a blessing. He swears it was the smoking that caused the infertility. This pregnancy was the natural way and she We are all elated. I am especially proud of him and feel like such a wimp to continue to smoke knowing it is killing me. It makes me feel inferior to others. Thank God my brother is an encouraging soul and not one of those horrible ex-smokers who just won't let up or are worse than just plain nonsmokers. To the OP: These poster above is absolutely correct. My brother will vouge that everything in life is better now that he is a nonsmoker (i He says the Chantix worked and he is by no means a pill-taker at all. To the OP again: If you You are worth it! You can still smoke the first week on Chantix, but then the cravings will disappear. Believe me, I also enjoy the cigarette especially after eating but smoke a lot more when I I I hate the habit, but I love the cigarettes. See what I mean? It Whaddya say? E-mail me! To the Poster Above: Thank you for your kind comments as you've also just made me decide that quitting is the best and only option at this point. I had an aunt that died of ovarian cancer and never smoked or drank a day in her life. She was thin, always health conscious. Not all cancers including lung come from smoking. Keep that in mind as you strive to quit.

You absolutely did the right thing! [2008-12-02]
I have a nephew who is turning 21 soon. This reminds me so much of him. His grandmother bails him out of trouble time and time again - but does he learn anything from his mistakes? Nope. Not one thing. It is a cycle that has to be broken. I only hope that it will be broken before he is also in his 40s like your stepdaughter. I am also a stepmom so I can understand your dilema there and the hurtful things that might be said, etc. But step or bio, everyone in my family knows my philosophy: I understand that everyone makes mistakes and slips up but when it comes to being in jail, hurting another family member, or taking advantage of someone - I won't participate in the least. Just know in your heart that you did the right thing for her in the long run. She can be mad, upset, maybe even make hurtful comments but if that's the case she can just as easily ask one of her bioparents as she can ask you.

Also at your mom's age - is she taking a beta-blocker? sm [2008-11-11]
People with potential asthma can be triggered into full-blown asthma after URI, if they are being treated with a beta-blocker (for HTN, anxiety, whatever other condition). No comments regarding your kids but just wanted to remark about your mom.

Agree completely [2008-11-10]
I I I was on a dating forum a couple years back and everyone started coming on saying they were geniuses because they took an online test and it said so. I am also well acquainted with the Bell Curve, and also I knew from most of those poster It smelled fishy so I took it, and it padded my IQ by 10-20 points! If you really want to know your IQ (or your child Most online tests are crap, designed to suck you into a marketing ploy, as well as make you look like a fool bragging that you're a genius, along with anybody else that takes it.

I made Cinnebons with my bread machine one year. [2008-11-02]
That was the year I heard the most positive comments back. Loved them! Used disposable 8 x 8 tins and wrapped them up pretty with red and green Saran wrap. Over the years I have gotten the plastic trays that are shaped like Santa or something like that and made cookies, fudge, made 1 of the slots mixed nuts and mints. Those also went over well, especially the families with kids.

thank you so much..i am planning to ask the mgr for new apt...sm [2008-11-01]
I have lived in apartments all my live and have never experienced anything as noxious as this lady Thank you all so much for your comments, since my DH does not care to exert himself, it is all on me, and so I will ask for another apt. It If that doesn Thanks again. I sincerely appreciate your great advice.

How about some ideas for a warm supper? [2008-10-28]
No snow yet, but howling winds and cold with a little bit of drizzle. Need some ideas to warm my little guys up when they get home from school. Not big fans of soup, though. Any other ideas?

Who needs them [2008-10-28]
Yesterday I was saddened beyond words. Who needs enemies with family like this. DH was talking to his half brother (15 years younger than DH) and these are some of the statements brother made to him. First let mesayhis brother is from a second marriage. MIL hates to acknowledge her3 kids from her first marrage. She has always felt they are inferior to her youngest. They live in a different state so we don So here is what his little punk half brother said to him. Even though it is brought on by political talk, this is more of a family issue post so didncomments (whichwere spoken with fake southern accent). 1. I'm not dumb, I went to a University (husband went to state colleges). 2. When told he should be prepared if he gets drafted he said oh no they wouldn't draft me, I work for a prestigious company and I went to a University and if I was drafted I would automatically be an officer, I wouldn't have to do all the other stuff the uneducated ones do. 3. Why do you live in that state you do? Only bumpkins live there. 4. Why do you keep moving? Have you done something illegal and are trying to hide? (Weve been at the same address for 2 years. 5. You should be happy is O gets in, you When DH said what in the world makes you think I donyou do? (I think it's odd that he didn't even ask DH what he does). 6. You know your just stup!d because you voted for GW. When DH said to him what makes you think we voted for him? He just said you didn We all thought you voted for him. DH said, no I didn 7. He made a comment about there might be a bloody war coming in the middle east and then said Oh I. DH said well no, why would you say that. Then the little *(% changes the subject. In the past we have been told that only the stup!d uneducated people go into the military (we were both in the military - me for 3 years and DH for 12 years. Husband also has an IQ of around 129, but he has always been told he is inferior (not in those exact words) because he didnUniversity. DH told him I wanted to go to this place or that and if mommy daddy could pay the way for me too I would have been able to go(not in those exact terms) and then his brother got upset and was trying to say DH was saying he was stup!d. Then his mom got in on it and told DH he's picking on him and jealous, etc. I just canhis own brother could say such hurtful things. I could understand if its someone you donItthat he He said their true colors really came out. And if you want to talk about intelligence DH will bring up subjects like what All he wants to talk about is sports (which DH hates sports) or who the Survivor or American Idol winner is. It is just really sad to be treated like your nothing by your own family. We have decided we will not be answering the phone from now on if he calls and just not talking to him for a long long time and let him think about what he did. Me particularly, I don Just very very sad. Okay, Sorry so long, just felt heartbroken and had to get it out.

That is terrible. [2008-10-28]
I come from a family where there are a few members that leave a lot to be desired. Usually the person on the other end of the conversations receives hurtful comments such as yours. My mom puts up with it but I donwrong but them. I think it is a wise decision to just avoid them for a while. It's very sad but your husband will be better off without more hurtful comments eating away at an already difficult relationship and situation.

I was not out buying designer clothes or stuff for myself - sm [2008-10-25]
in my case it was we, mainly him, spent way more than we make. Everytime one of his cards got a large balance (he never looked at the statements and I pay the bills) I would tranfer it over to one of my cards, which again he never looked at, and I had a P.O. Box for--so in my case it was very, very easy to do, and with paperless statements today even easier. We had a lot of things happen in our life over the past 4 years which made the money/credit card issue much worse, easily added $40K onto it (at $89K now)--family death, serious child illness--still dealing with that some--, job loss on my part, private school tuition ($12K a year---no longer go there for the last 2 years), inability to pay bills and heavily borrowed on cards----d-u-m-b I know. So don't be so quick to judge, it is not always so black and white. Yes I did get a few things I should not have, but I know during some of this time I was depressed though not horribly so but enough so as to buy a few things I never should have, but for 95% of it it was my DH never denying himself anything (though he would have if he'd known, and now he is --granted not too happy about it---one tiny concession he has made is only 9 beers a day, down from 12, so maybe he can get 3 days out of a case of beer instead of 2.) So my days of robbing Peter to pay Paul are over. We plan to have an open book when it comes to finances once his are paid off, and mine are enrolled with a debt management plan--- then only use his cards for gas, and work stuff basically--I won't have any as they will all get destroyed and cancelled in the DMP, and will use my debit card for everything --which I do now anyway, so it won't be a huge change for me. I don't think she is lamenting, just realizing what a horrid mess she has to deal with, it is hard, and I have to deal with my DHs comments for years to come, he did a few zingers last night. I will be okay though and have to pay the piper, it is worth it not having to go through a nasty divorce and custody fight as I know it would not have been pretty.

I just went thru something similar - sm [2008-10-24]
I was the one back in late August and then back on Oct. 13 or so----I had racked up a ton of debt on his and my credit cards which he knew nothing about. I finally confessed to him, he reacted pretty well considering the bomb I dropped on him. He does not want to divorce over it thank God but some amazing miracle. Obviosly your situation is a bit more complex. My DH is not that controlling. I was/am the one to get the mail, and would decide what he would see or not see, though he had no scruples about reading my mail, he would get upset if I ever read anything personal sent to him. As I know it is nothing to get bent about I let that one go. He has never cheated and even confirmed that when I confessed my deceit and financial infidelity to him. Luckily he still loves me enough to keep it together. He is trying a little more, though he has backed off doing a few things he used to around the house, I have taken on more responsibility around here, the price I have to pay I guess. I did 85% of it before, now, 95% (he used to cook dinner....now it looks like I get the pleasure of doing it from now on as he has not done it once since the 13th. Granted any reference to buying anyting is , we cannot afford it....which we can, but yes things are going to be a bit tight for the next five years, but we will manage. I have not done it yet, but Monday going to get the wheels rolling and do CCCS for my debts. His will be taken care of soon as we are selling off a bunch of mutual funds from the 401K (loan) so no penalties though with the economy we will have to sell more than we would have a few months ago which stinks. ---He is willing to economize now that he knows there is an issue though (he makes about 4x what I do). You will have to bit the bullet and confess as well. It is not easy. I wrote him a note and then left the house for a short while, then came back and we talked it all out. I figured my marriage would be over, but I think for the kids and still some feelings for me he wants to keep it all together. We have a good life together for the most part and he knows that. We do things together as a family, still have enjoyable sex once a week (took him 9 days after my confession), and are in tune with each other and the kids. Considering it he has been so good after it , you never know your husband might surprise you like mine did. He has not really made any comments for a week now, which is amazing in itself. My DH generally is the type of guy who blames everyone else for his mistakes and takes no responsibility for anything, so that is why it was such a shock that he is handling this all so well. Generally he acts like a 3-y/o and holds grudges. So it is possible your husband can be a standup guy. I guess it will depend on how much he cares for you, keeping the marriage together and not becoming a part-time dad or having to give you the house or a ton of money.....I am sure that all factored in in my situation. All I said was that no one would win in a divorce. He has been divorced before so I know he does not wnat to go thru that again, sees it as personal failure. But I feel so much better for telling him, a huge weight has been lifted. I still have a lot to get thru but the worst is over. I know my streess is still up there some, but I know longer have to worry about him finding out, etc. So you need to formulate a plan, maybe set aside some ready cash, and and tell him what is going on. You can email me if you want. I hope it all works out for you.

STOP!!!! BETTER TAKE A CLOSER LOOK [2008-10-22]
This is what I found when researching this: Just Wondering asked the question; Do the Heat Surge Fireless Flame heaters that the Amish sell really work? It is being advertised in the local paper (The Herald-Dispatch,Huntingto n , WV ). That it is a Miracle Heater. Saves Money: uses less energy than a coffee maker. Stay really warm and slash your heating bill all at the same time. It uses 1500 watts. It is 5119 btu. My question is. Is this really a Miracle Heater? Should I buy one for every room in my house and turn off the heat pump? 10 months ago Report Abuse by John R Member since: July 12, 2007 Total points: 1256 (Level 3) Add to My Contacts Block User Best Answer - Chosen by Asker The ads (which are all over the country) are very misleading. 1. A coffee maker uses a large amount of electricity for about a minute. Itmiracle heater uses less electricity than a coffee maker DURING THAT ONE MINUTE. But you're going to have the heater running for a lot longer than one minute a day. So it's going to cost you a lot more to operate than a coffee maker does. The heater will cost you around 12 cents per hour to operate. The average cost of electricity in the U.S. is 8 cents per 1,000 watts per hour, so 1,500 watts costs 12 cents per hour on average. This is true for ANY 1,500 watt electric heater. 2. The ads say that the heater produces an amazing 5,119 BTU (a measure of heat energy), but ALL 1,500 watt electric heaters produce 5,119 BTU. If an electric heater was 100% efficient, it would convert 1,500 watts of electricity into 5,120 BTU of heat. All electric heaters are nearly 100% efficient, and this has been true for decades. The miracle heater is no more efficient than any other electric heater. 3. The website of the heaterzone heating. See the Saves Money section of the website (www.heatsurge.com). This is true, but it's also true for ANY electric heater. The problem is that a lot of people don't like to have just one room of their house warm while all the others are cold. You DON'T want to heat your entire house by putting an electric heater in each room. That would cost you far more than central heat. Gas central heat, for example, would cost around half as much as having an electric heater in each room. (The exact amount varies depending on what part of the country you live in.) If you want to get one heater and move it around with you, that would be cheaper than central heat, but you can get a lightweight 1,500 watt / 5,119 BTU electric heater with a fan for under $100 at your local hardware store, while the miracle heater costs $350 including shipping. The heater at your local hardware store won't have the Amish-made mantle and the fake flames, but it will work just as well. Make sure to get one with a fan, since it will warm up the room faster, although fans can be noisy. 10 months ago

What is up with these people? [2008-10-21]
My children have no grandparents at all due to this kind of crap. When my mom was alive she stepped over the line all the time. I am no longer speaking to my father (whom I have always adored) because of my oldest daughter and his deciding he could do it better as far as raising her (this from an ex-alcoholic). My X-in-laws tried to take my children away from me when their dad died and would not quit saying bad things about me when they saw them so my kids quit going (of their own accord). My current husbands father has called me and my husband names in front of the kids and his new wife constantly made racial comments, so none of the kids see them anymore either. What happened to just being a grandparent? Someone to spoil the kids and be there for them, not take over as their parent because they felt their own child was not doing a good enough job!!! I so wish I had cut all ties with my father sooner, even though I love him, it would have saved everyone a lot of heartache and maybe my oldest would not be the mess that she is (or at least not as much). It makes me very angry that these people cannot have the same respect for US as parents that they say THEY deserve!!

be careful if you have environmental allergies [2008-10-21]
my son has severe environmental allergies and we were told to never hang out his laundry as pollen can attach itself to the clothing and make his symptoms worse. We are also to run an air conditoner, not use fans and never open the windows to help cut down on allergens. So much for frugality in our home!!! :(

Was beginning to think it was must me [2008-10-21]
We were old-time Folger's fans until recently, and I told my husband to change the type of coffee we were buying. Folger's tasted different, almost a bitter taste. I too used bottled water, and we changed our coffee pot too. It didn't work, so I am glad to know it was not just my taste buds that were off. It also smelled different.

Gays march for their rights to be involved with their long-time partners [2008-10-17]
health care should a drastic decision be made. It is usually a family member...even though we are the ones who take care of our partners when they are sick or dying. We fight for the right not to be thrown out of a shared house by the partner's parents. We want to honor our partner's wishes when they die as we are the ones who have spent years with them - not the family. These are just a few examples. As far as your comment that we influence young people - that is absurd. All we want is to live our life and as pxmt said, be able to walk down the street without abusive comments, being assaulted, ridiculed, etc. The school system is not segregating gay children - they are making it gay friendly and teaching tolerance. Suicide is very high in gay children because of the parents who teach their children that it is evil and it is okay to bash a gay child. These schools are just trying to save the lives of young children. As far as your comment that Christian's homes and churches are burned, sorry but I cannot recall one incident that I have read or saw on the news. Temples yes. As far as being assaulted for your beliefs, could it be because you stand in front of abortion clinics and gun down the doctors and nurses that come out or go into the clinic? Could it be that you bully the 15 and 16-year-olds who have been raped and want an abortion? Sorry to say this, at least we (gays) are not violent and just want to be left alone.

WE DID IT! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! [2008-10-16]
My Dad was born and raised in Philly!!! I have going to games since before I could walk! My parents were both Philly Fans; watching from Heaven this time!

I guess next time...... [2008-10-16]
I should preface my comments with: WARNING: BIBLE SCRIPTURE WITHIN? I think NOT! I read most of these boards on a daily basis and have seen plenty of instances where gay rights, just as an example, are being forced down the throats of Christians every day. Of course, the gay community probably does not see it that way since that is their lifestyle and we Christians should not judge them for it, or so they believe. Yet, let a Christian post their point of view based on their tenents of faith as outlined in the Bible and we are jumped on like a bug by a hungry hen. Can you not see the irony here? Christians must live in this world, that is true. But we don By the same token, gays (or whatever group is feeling picked on) do not have to conform to the Christian belief system. Each person will have to answer to his/her own on Judgment Day, and like one old guy at church says, There

Well then I guess it is a good thing that ...sm [2008-10-12]
close minded people like you don't run our country then. Go do some research before you make comments. A pit bull is a dog like any other. They are steretyped as being vicious because some people fight them. I do not agree with fighting any breed of dog including pit bulls. Those fighting pits are TRAINED to do that. They are not born that way. Some won't even fight after being trained to. I used to have a Yorkie that was a little fellow but he was 10 times meaner than my pit. Actually I will tell you how nice the pit was. With his size he could have easily killed the yorkie. Well the yorkie was constantly growling and biting the pit and one day just reached up and bit him square on the balls. The pit turned around and just looked at him. He could have torn the little fellow apart but he didn't. Now would a unstable mean dog be that calm? You need to rethink your comments. You are way off the mark.

And you are right about the politics board sm [2008-09-26]
you can't say anything without someone jumping all over you on that board and some of the responses are silly and childish. Every time someone posts verifiable information, people on there respond with silly inuendos and comments.

Vista versus XP [2008-09-25]
Hi, I am an MT looking to purchase a new computer, and it seems like unless you special order all the computers have Vista on them. How is Vista compared to XP? The companies I work for do support Vista, but I have heard more negative comments about Vista as opposed to good from people I know who use Vista who are not MTs. I am hoping that this will be a smooth transition for me as I am not that computer savvy. Thanks!

Ugggg. Christmas trees in the stores already! [2008-09-18]
Isn What has replaced them? Drum roll: A tiny bit of Halloween decor, a few Thanksgiving napkins and plates and Tons of lit Christmas tress. Many aisles of decorations with lights, garland. Even the CHRISTMAS JEWELRY is out. Forget the half off on notebooks and pens, hurry and get your candy cane earrings before it's too late!! Ahhhhhkkkk. My kids are already writing lists for Christmas. My pocket book cannot take it. My DH gave me 50 bucks to buy milk, and get all of our 9 year old girl So... who can think about Christmas? Anybody got any ideas on how to deal with all this stress? Would appreciate any comments on above experience. Thanks in advance!

Talk with the teacher [2008-09-10]
I would schedule a meeting with the teacher. Tell her your daughter handles the tasks concerning her with no problem at home and ask what exactly is going on that has her concerned. I would also talk with your child to see if any of her comments shed some insight into how things are going at school and the type of interaction with the teacher.

Just a thought....... [2008-08-27]
We lived in an area where tree frogs and lizards were a daily thing, all over the place. Our dog loved it though. They usually plant themselves in areas where there are more abundant insects. Is there a light nearby? That will draw the insects as well. Put in a buglight which will cut down greatly on the bugs attracted and hopefully cut down on the lizards and frogs as well. But the tree frogs hung out all over our sliding patio door regardless. Of course, my husband and I are big fans of both, because once you start seeing them diminish overall, that's a bad statement for their environment, so we were pretty tolerant anyway. I do understand the falling on your head though. Just shake your door good before going outside! Good luck!

First off, I was very upset when I wrote [2008-08-26]
the original post. Sending my son to a boys I don I mean a facility that can help to retrain him if I can I love my son very much. I would rather suffer the pains and guilt of having to send him to a reformity, then to watch him grow up into someone who would hurt someone else and ruin the rest of his life. I love all of my children equally. Secondly, when I took my child to the child psychologist, I had several visits with him first to see if there was something I was doing wrong. I continued to attend each session with my child, including private sessions for myself after his meeting with my son. Thirdly, your comments were not helpful, just nasty, and that Anyone who Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to do just that.
