definitely Australian Shepherd [2008-09-27]
they are intelligent, sensitive, kind yet capable of protecting well, very responsive...but they are not for everyone (for their need to be with you a lot, need for exercise, etc)

Australian sheppard - Aussies [2008-07-03]
A friend has had several Aussies and has had problems at the vet's office. One died after it was taken in for grooming and flea dipping. She said that the only dip that can be used is that as the same for sheep??? Her daughter's dog was in for routine teeth cleaning, but the anesthsia got to him and he died. She took her current Aussie to the vet for neutering. When he came home he was lethargic. They took him back and the doctor put him on an IV to flush his system of any anesthesia? Does any of this sound familiar? Thank you

I have had two Aussies [2008-07-03]
My first one I had for several years and then he started to act sick and wouldn Not sure exactly what that was all about. I kind of wonder if he had gotten into something. I Aussie I have now has never had any problems. I have had him for about 5-6 years now. No problem with my vet either. Maybe your friend should look into a different vet?

I LOVE his Australian accent - MN [2008-03-17]

obviously very happy, well taken care of dog. I wish they all had it so good!

3/4 Red Australian Cattle dog, 1/4 Blue [2007-11-21]
3 years old. His name is Eddie

Lucky you! My niece has a red Australian Cattle Dog [2007-08-21]
and she is adorable. Name is Reggie. She was taught to ring a bell when she needed to go out and learned to do so in 2 days! She herds everyone when they are in the pool and my niece must actually stop her or she gets blisters on her little feet and is worn out! They are incredible. I know some people refer to them as Heelers as well, maybe the same thing or maybe a tad different. In any event, what a great dog!!

Some Australian dude! nm [2006-11-28]

ax instead of ask, beedroom instead of bedroom (I think that's an Australian thing) or for that matter, betroom instead of bedroom Daytawn instead of Dayton (& from residents too!) The use of the f-word & the s-word in every other sentence... (if not every sentence) The over-use of the word basically As in starting every other sentence, Well, basically it

she's a Geokay (God Only Knows) [2008-08-05]
Big white dog with blond patches. Short hair, one floppy ear and a curly tail. Folks say she looks like some sort of Lab and Australian Shepherd mix. Big, about 70 to 80 pounds. Real smart (we did have that talk). She definitely knows what no cats means. My only hope is that as she gets older she I have a HUGE yard on a corner lot, all fenced. She races every car that goes down the street and easily wins -- amazingly fast for such a big dog. No kill yesterday. And the trash has been taken away, thank goodness. The cats kill, too, but not nearly on such a grand scale as this dog. Yes, I would love to find her a job, as a poster had suggested. However, being mixed, will there be a website about mutts and jobs? Thanks to all of you.

There is something called the MDR1 gene...sm [2008-07-03]
MDR1 (multi-drug resistance gene). Itfound in herding breeds likecollies, aussies, etc., and somel other breeds as well. It The only way to know is to test the dog to see if has the gene or is a carrier. (I think that just involves a cheek swab.) Were these dogs related to each other? I wonder if that gene was the cause, or if the vet was negligent, or if it was just terrible luck. It Beforesurgery,Italk to the vet and make sureI understandwhat kind of drugs and anesthetic they use, and how the dog is monitored during anesthesia and while recovering. Just like with people, there is always a risk. Some vets have all the fancy, high tech equipment for monitoring, but others relymore onan assistantto do it manually. I prefer There are not nearly as many vet anesthesiologists in the vet world as there are in human medicine. II I just read about this gene when I was helping a friend research the breed. Her first aussie died at a ripe old age of about 14 yrs old, I think, andshe has one thatyear old and has had no health problems that I know of. Isorry for your friend. To have a dog die after a flea dip of all things... and then another after routine teeth cleaning. There is always a risk with anesthesia, but we get so used to thinking it She took her current Aussie to the vet for neutering. When he came home he was lethargic. They took him back and the doctor put him on an IV to flush his system of any anesthesia? This s/l either the dog had a bad reaction to the anesthesia, or the vet went overboard and gave too much...

The voting went exactly (sm) [2008-04-02]
the way I wanted it to tonight. Or the country girl could have gone home. I have 5 favorites, so it's soon going to be painful to have people voted off. I like both Davids, the Australian guy and dreadlocks guy. I like the Irish girl too.

American Idol - anyone watch it anymore? [2008-03-19]
I thought the rocker chick was monotonous and so was Brooke who I previously thought did great last week. I also thought the rocker guy (forget his name) is getting very cocky even though I like him. I think it's time for the Australian bloke to go, even though he's cute, just don't think his voice is that good.

AI [2008-03-19]
Is the Australian Michael-something? If so (or whoever he is), did you see his butt last night in those pants...woohoo...nice! I don't watch very much, but did see the Michael-guy (not good performance, but looked dang good in those pants), the rocker chick (YUCK--predictable) and Brooke, which I think was ok.

Dr. Christian Troy [2008-03-17]
No, I haven In fact, it was only recently that I learned that he I have no idea how they do that. Joley Richardson does, too. I think that's why she speaks so slowly. The season finale only left me wanting more, as per usual. Itout there! I just wish they'd do more shows!

I also liked the rocker in question . . . [2008-02-20]
the one with the bandana on. And that gentle looking boy, you know the anemic looking one, the one that needs fresh air, hope he gets to stay in it a few weeks. My favorite also are the two that have been mentioned - the Australian and the cutie 17 year-old.

He can light my fire! ;) [2008-02-20]
The Australian guy that sang the Doors song )

does she like licorice? [2008-01-23]
not that American plastic stuff, the soft Australian, Black Opal brand. I get it at Target - eat some everyday and works very well as a natural laxative. Did anyone suggest bran muffins? (I didn't read all the posts).

Black Opal licorices is the brand... [2007-11-13]
Oh my gosh I Loooove the raspberry ones, so soft and chewy. They are made with treacle...dunno what it is, but it Highly recommend them! Check them out on line here:http://www.licoriceinternational.com/store/cart.php?cat=Australian+Licorice Again, found 'em at Target too!

FOX NEWS IS GREAT. I LOVE [2007-06-08]
Sheppard Smith. He is great.

He is funny. He gives life to the quotes [2007-06-08]
Now there is a crazy guy in the background on the news conference. Blue hat with I LOVE PARIS, blue shirt and holding a sign. This guy keeps making comments and Sheppard is lovin it.

Yes, she has a medical condition [2007-06-08]
shaking, quivering and twitching. Paris is afraid to go to jail that is it. Greta's take is a bit much. Greta keeps saying she has a medical problem. She needs Xanax or something. She will calm down soon. She was not quivering or shaking in her backyard hugging her parents. PLEASE. Sheppard she has Extreme bratititis. FUNNY. Now PARIS PARADE she is off to jail now.

Greys Anatomy [2007-05-20]
I heard that Burke was leaving the show after George and him (forgot their real time) had words on the set about George being gay in real life. It kind of leaves a cliff hanger if either one is coming back and then Dr. Addison Sheppard is going to have her own show next season so she is off the show. I agree not that great of a show anymore

Bichon [2007-02-14]
I have a Bichon and he is 11. Got him you at about 6 weeks. My dog is trained but tends to like to mark his spot. I am alway picking up stuff off the floor such as bookbags, kids shoes, whatever. I do have a problem with him and my floors even though I am home and let him out all the time. He also tends to get into the garbage. He is a barker but his bark is bigger than his bite. My house was robbed and when I got home he was sitting on the cops lap. He needs to be groomed every six weeks or he gets dreadlocks. He doesn He follows me around everywhereand at 11 he still acts like a puppy. IGerman Sheppardpriorbut love myBichon.

Seizures are fairly common in Springers. [2007-02-08]
But what is the age of onset? Usually if age of onset is after 5 years, it is something other than epilepsy. But in a very young dog, it probably is epilepsy. A friend of mine has a Australian shepherd (named Major) that was having multiple grand mal seizures a day. Medicine helped, but what made a big difference for her was changing the dog's food to Canidae. Of course it's not in place of medication, but the dog went from multiple seizures a day before medication to 1 seizure a week with medication (may have had to add a second med, not sure), but then changing to Canidae improved him to 1 seizure in 6 months! She also has a Pembroke corgi (named Minor) who alerts them to each seizure before it hits their Australian shepherd. She named her dogs Major and Minor - what a nut. :oD
