Baby fits...sm [2008-05-08]
I kept my niece this last weekend, and she threw one of these little tantrums I guess you would call it. She is only 7 months but she would throw her head back and buck back and forth and scream and kick. What can you do? You can They are just babies. I don My husband was holding her because I was cooking and he said I think she is just being ugly. So he said I tell you what kid if you do that again you are getting in the playpen and you will just have to sit there and throw your fit. She wouldn And then the little stinker would grin. After she had just threw an awful tantrum. My sister-in-law said she started to do this with her mom too. I don Maybe my son was just a good baby because he cried and all but not throwing his head back and kicking and flopping like that. What advice would you have when keeping a baby that does this? How would you try to deter them from behaving this way or can you?

Cat had baby bunny cornered on the porch - sm [2008-04-18]
I heard something screaming on the porch - went to check and cat had a baby bunny cornered. I brought the cat in but the bunny is just staying crouched there scared to death. Miracle baby born with 2 faces [2008-04-09]
This was NOT in the Enquirer. This was really on the first page of the Lakeland Ledger in Florida. An Indian infant was born with two (count them) two full faces. That is four eyes, 2 noses, 2 mouths, and thebaby eats with both mouths. They are calling this child the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess anda temple is being built to this goddess in the small town. The family is being given lots of money and gifts, and visits!
You should see the picture of this kid. Perfectly normal, except each side of the face is a full face. Nothing else wrong that they know of. I did not know what to think today, if I feel sorry for the child, or worried about how this defect will affect her life. Also, what

My children have adopted a baby pig - sm [2008-02-26]
My ex-husband went to the feed store and a man was there talking about how his hog had only had one baby and that it would not be worth the trouble to let her raise it. My ex-husband asked him what he was going to do with the little one, and he said if he couldn My ex-husband told the man he would take the little pig. Long story short, ourkids are feeding the baby pig with a bottle. Her name is Pinkie. They are in love, LOL. I asked him what made him decide to take this little pig, and he said, We watched Charlotteand I just couldn I am praying that Pinkie makes it.

I have my beagle baby back home!!!...sm [2008-02-26]
She was happy to see me and my other dog was very happy because just in the 24 hours she was gone he would not eat. He began to be destructive which he doesn't ever do when you are at home with him. He would go get magazines out of the magazine basket and shred them. He doesn't normally do that unless I leave him at home alone. But I was home so it had to be because his friend was gone and he wanted her back. She is sore but she will be fine. At least I don't have to worry about her coming in to heat anymore.

Good baby shower gifts? sm [2008-02-04]
I am going to my first baby shower ever, and I am not a mom so I need some ideas for good gifts for the shower. She is not finding out what she is having so I have no idea what to get and want to get a gift that she will use. Any ideas appreciated.
Diapers and baby wipes [2008-02-04]
Everybody buys the bibs, bath lotions, and Onesies (which I personally hated, could not tolerate snapping and unsnapping all the time for diaper changes).
I always buy a ton of diapers in varying sizes and a crate of baby wipes. At first the expectant mom thinks it is weird, but give it a month or two, and they think it is greatest gift ever! They use them every day and they get to be a big expense.
Every body brings baby gifts. sm [2008-02-04]
Bring something sensual for the mom. A basket of body lotions, bath lotions, maybe something feminine to wear after the birth. I loved that. I had plenty of diapers, newborn clothes, and baby gadjets already. Something for just ME was really appreciated. My favorite gift for the baby was a musical lion that played You Are My Sunshine. Baby totally loved that, for a couple of years.

baby shower gift [2008-02-04]
I see all these different gifts here and they are all just wonderful gifts. Something that we REALLY appreciated after the birth of our twins was a couple of friends paid for a housecleaning service to come over and do a one time big cleaning for us. We were a month early with them and while I really appreciated every single present we received, that one was a biggie. Also, your time. While the cleaning people came in, the hubby came over and helped my hubby get the cribs together and a dresser (we were not quite ready (lol)) . And the wife helped me with the children and picked up some food. Also restaurant gift card or now even a Visa gift card would be great. That way it can be used for anything they need, now or later on. Hope this helps. Main thing is, give it with your heart.
There was a baby born in Philly [2008-01-29]
Is this inconsiderate or what? [2008-07-03]
My son-in-law stopped by our house on the way to work this morning. My hubby was pulling out of the driveway and I saw him give a bag to my husband and he left. My hubby brought the bag to me and said I was told to give this to you until tonight. He said my SIL was going to have a surprise for our daughter this evening after work at a local restaurant but didn I opened the bag and there was ice cream and pickles inside (?). Well, the first thing we thought of was pregnant and needless to say, our first grandchild, the look on our face was shock, disappointment, and happiness at the same time. We just stood there staring at each other, wondering what the **** was going on. My hubby went on to work and called a few minutes later, saying my SIL had text messaged him and said for me nor my husband to call OUR daughter or him today. I have sat in tears most of the day. That jerk (and he is a jerk) just told us our daughter is expecting our grandchild but not to talk to her today. What is the surprise about? He already knows, SHE already knows, we already know. So I guess you have to know my SIL to know he is a controlling person.....my daughter just hasn My husband has been so upset all day about this. Shouldn We are told by him to keep this inside all day. They are going to see his parents tomorrow at their lakehouse and I suppose tell them together, even though I have a feeling he This is a day my husband and I should be so gloriously happy and we feel sad too. We don I have just seen my daughter and she said nothing and I can This is my baby having a baby and we don Our son was here and saw what we saw and he was so happy to be an uncle, grinning from ear to ear, but can I have to say I am so angry with him right now. You have to know how controlling he has been. My daughter wouldn Are you kidding? What sick pleasure does he get from spoiling all this for us by it not coming from her, the pregnant one, standing there. Our child.
We still don After all, they already know, we already know, so why haven I have to say my husband is so upset by this right now, he has called from work several times today and could not even focus on an important meeting this morning. To be honest, I am not at all sure how I will react once we are together this evening. Is this just a dumb way of doing this or has anyone else had this happen like this? We are just dumbfounded about it all and think this is avery cruel way of doing this.

Is this possible? [2008-07-01]
Okay. I have an in-law who is in her 40s, had a partial hysterectomy (just left the ovaries), hasn Did I miss something here? How is this possible?
Yes, I understand that the ovaries still produce eggs and they can be fertilized if sperm would get to it but from everything I've seen, there is no way she could possibly carry it to full-term....nor should she want to as it is very dangerous not only to her but the unborn child(ren).
I just wonder if she doesn
All I know is I hope to God this isn She is just not fit to be the mother of the 2 teenage girls she has let alone a new baby or twins. Sheesh!

Don't you need a uterus to hold the baby?
A lot depends on your daughter, not just you - sm [2008-06-30]
Is she sensible? There are not many 16-y/o that have not tried drinking or smoking, it is all part of trying new things, etc. and it will happen whether you like it or not. You have to learn to trust her to make smart decisions and to make her own mistakes but obviously to guide her and make sure she doesndate had MadDog, nasty stuff, and I got obliterated as I did not realize what that crud would do to me. Lucky for me my dad was out of the country at the time. My punishment was being forced to go to school with a horrible hangover (though I puked my guts out in my friendscares). I actually went and got on the pill while still a virgin so when it did happen I would be protected. --- is your daughter that sensible and with some common sense? I did a lot of stupid things along with the smart things I doing, just got lucky and came out of it okay. At 16 you want to experiment and have fun. All my friend and I were A/B students, 1 smoked and did all sorts of drugs. I would drink and smoke pot now and them (1 x a week or so), and again parents NEVER knew it. I remember one time my dad picked me up at school after play practice (was helping out with set design), I was stoned, had been slipped angel dust and had been hallucinating about an hour or two prior, was still pretty high. He wanted me to drive home for practice (I was 16), I turned him down because I was very tired.....he never knew, I crawled into bed the minute I got home. I was very, very good at hiding it from my parents, how they didn't smell it on me I never knew, unless they just ignored it. My best friend smoked and they new that so I guess that helped cover it up a bit. Despite all this I was very anti-drug (anything but pot) as I had seen too many people messed up on coke, crank, LSD, etc. I was furious with my BF's brother as he was the one who slipped me the angel dust, I got lucky as nothing bad happened to me. He is dead now, ended up addicted to coke, then alcohol, got hepatitis, car-jacked 3 cars for drug money, and ended up in prison with a 20 year sentence, got out after 8 years in 2006, then got addicted to painkillers, they found him dead in his apartment, killed by mixing alcohol and painkillers. This just happened about 8 months ago. He was only 42. Very sad as he was a smart guy but had many, many problems and never got his life together. Obviously this does not happen to everyone who does drugs, it all depends on the person and their upbringing. His sister (one of my BFs) is a successful therapist, drinks but quit smoking several years ago, never got into hard drugs like her brother. ---sorry for the rambling, but don't go overboard and lock her up, that will just make her go in the opposite direction. Obviously you need to set limits, etc, and try to know where she is and who she is with, and set punishments if you catch her doing it and let her know what those punishments will be, whether it is grounding for a month, or no cell phone, no TV, no driving, whatever, be firm and stick to it. I know that my brothers and I all did stuff, most of which we got away with, but it was shear luck and stupidity when I look back at it. Not all kids are so lucky. I hope you daughter is one of the lucky ones.
I totally agree [2008-06-25]
This reminds me of my MIL, and how she was too. She felt she could do what she wanted because she was the children's grandmother. This is a good time to establish a few ground rules where your child is concerned, while trying not to hurt her feelings, but she should know that she has to ask you about anything that concerns activities with your children. Children depend on us for their safety, and you can't replace your child if anything happens, so you have every right to say no I don't want my child doing that. I don't mean to pry, but what does the child's father think about her doing this? If she had really thought about this she should have realized this idea about taking a 9 month old baby on a 4-wheeler is totally wrong.
Mine are older now, but I can sooo relate (sm) [2008-06-24]
Youearmuff looking things that block out sound. It is a thin line to tread because they see nothing wrong with this type of lifestyle when it is the opposite of what you would do. Unfortunately you may have a long battle ahead of you because I have. My children are now 8 and 11 and I have been labelled the overprotective mother the whole time. Too bad. I do pick and choose my battles with them but if something is unsafe it is unsafe and they will just have to not like you. What are they gonna do, kick you out of the family? lol - I think not. And they have to be nice to you so they get more baby time - use your leverage, but be fair and try to give a little too. Ask yourself it is is truly dangerous before you react - if it is, then don't allow it.
I would tell MIL that she is nuts for doing that - sm [2008-06-24]
I have done quite a few ER reports on people who have been in accidents on ATVvisits with them). Your job is to protect your children, if she was ever hurt because you allowed this to keep going on you would never forgive yourself. Put your foot down now before something bad happens. As for having someone watch her while you cut the grass, hello, why cannot your husband cut the grass??? Or if you MIL is so deperate to ride something, have her come over and cut the grass and put her on the tractor. So between the stupidity of her taking a baby on an ATV and the obvious damage to the baby's hearing which will be permanent-- I'd tell her to cut it out now and if you find out she is still doing it anyway, no more leaving her with grandma, plain and simple.
It's not the noise I'd be concerned about [2008-06-23]
Is she wearing a helmet that fits? There are daily accidents with children on ATVs. I If she should happen to flip the ATV, which can happen on an incline at any speed, your daughter could be killed. I don't mean to sound so grim, but it's something to be aware of.
We have an ATV. My 3 boys do ride with their dad and do wear helmets, but it Every time they get on, I feel like I have to hold my breath until they're off.
Agree, I have trained quite a few dogs -sm [2008-06-22]
some just take longer than others, I have found though that they train a lot faster if there is another dog in the house that is older and housebroken. I have had huskies take 3 months to housebreak before. My last husky was about 10 weeks old when I got her and by some miracle she was trained in about a month, but we had 2 other dogs in the house and they helped teach her I think. I get to go through all this again in a year or two when my daughter gets a dog my DH promised her....I am not looking forward to it. She keeps changing her mind on what she wants, Taco bell dog (Chiwahwa, I know I am butchering the spelling), or a Jack Russell, or maybe a pug. So who knows, I like big dogs, have a big boy husky now and a chocolate lab. Just have to make sure in this case the dog it not too small or these two will end up killing it which would not be too cool. (my husky goes after small animals in the yard, not sure if he would be able to differentiate from a pet dog or a squirrel/possom). We are trying to wait until the husky passes before getting this new dog, and he will be 9 in 2 years so his time will be done or very close at that point (I have never had a husky live pass 9.5). ---But bottom line is patience in house training a dog, yes it is icky but no worse than changing a baby's diaper, and if you have had kids then you can get thru housebreaking a dog, they are a lot easier to take care of!
i tried to email you sm [2008-06-21]
i tried to email you but i got an email back saying they couldn't send it, probably your spam blocker or something. anyway, i always heard that giving a dog a bath once a month was plenty. so that's what i do.
good luck with your new baby!!!
My lab mix was pee trained in one day at about 6 weeks old, only a few poo accidents- sm [2008-06-20]
As soon as I got Walter home, the very second we got out of the car I put him down in the yard where I wanted his potty place to be and he peed immediately. Then I put him on a schedule where I religously put him in the potty place as soon as he woke up from a nap, about 15-20 minutes after eating, and before we went to bed. I also kept an eagle eye on him almost consistently for the first week or so (not hard because he was so cute)... he stayed on a dog bed in my office when I was working and the instant he started sniffing at anything I picked him up and took him to the potty place... a couple times I was running with him and he started to dribble before I got there. Sniffing means he is looking for a place to go! Make no bones about it, he is not doing anything else!
As far as pooing, puppies go pretty consistently about a half hour after eating. They have really tiny bladders so you can count on this. No matter what I was doing we went outside at that time. Whever I heard a tiny whine I take him to potty place. I figured he had a belly ache just like a baby might and usually he would go number two. The few times he did poo in the house was my fault. I ignored the whining or was not paying attention. I swear to you... Walter has never ever ever peed in my house. But to be honest, when he was a puppy whenever I brought him to visit another house he almost instantly peed out of nerves. So embarrassing. When I realized he did that I had him meet my friends outside of their homes! He would wiggle in delight but pee.
But for the first few weeks, I never left this dog alone at all and my big priority was to get him housebroken asap. You may not have that option if you have to leave for work or something. Walter went with me on errands and whenever I let him out of the car he would pee. So he also loves riding in the truck because he did it so much.
When I got Walter he was a little under 6 weeks old... pretty young. So I think I became his mom pretty quick and he was pretty moldable. I have made plenty of mistake, though, like letting him sleep on my bed and now he is 120 pounds and still does that. I don Good luck!
A very good friend once said... [2008-06-20]
*If you can raise a puppy, then raising a child is easy...*
I think you are on the right track. It I have a Corgi boy that did not train as fast as I thought he should, but he did get there after about 6-7 months. For me, since it was my first time, I had no idea how long it would take. It would probably go faster a 2nd time around. From some reading I did, it sounded like it should be in a matter of days, and some dogs just do not fit that mold.
It reminds me of all those who told me their baby slept through the night at 6 weeks of age. That did not happen for me until my 3rd child was born. Each child and puppy are different.
Showers for 2nd marriages [2008-06-18]
My cousin called and asked opinion on wedding showers. Her daughter is marrying for second time and she doesn't know if it is proper to have another shower. She has her own home and has everything she needs. This is the first wedding for future groom. We had same discussion when my son married for second time. His future wife had also been previously married and they both live together and have everything. She went and registered at several places. Her response was she didn't need anything but sure wanted things. Isn't that a bit greedy? Any opionions? Same with second and third baby showers. When I grew up you got one for the first and that was it. If a huge gap between babies maybe a small second one but not one for every baby.
My thoughts [2008-06-18]
I I think that a wedding shower is generally geared towards the bride. Therefore, if this is her first wedding and not the groom If it is the bride If sheno gifts. However, it sounds from your post, that she

showers [2008-06-18]
I think itplease come to my wedding and buy me a gift that I have picked from Target.
I think a baby shower for a 2nd baby is fine if the 1st was a girl and the 2nd is a boy, something like that. I think (and this is just my opinion) that once you already have the clothes for the gender of baby you are having you shouldn't have one, but I have been to lots, some specified as diapers-only baby showers. Close family and friends will probably gift them anyway, but no need for a shower.
Just my opinion - see message [2008-06-18]
I think I read some place (like Ann Landers) where it is in really poor taste to have multiple showers for multiple marriages. I tend to agree. If the couple already has everything they need then the point of the shower is to just get even more stuff? I certainly would not bring a gift if they were tactless enough to register for something. The same goes for *money only* bridal and baby showers. Guess that is just my opinion, you asked...
Not all 2nd marriage brides [2008-06-18]
had a shower with the first marriage and missed out on the exp. Not all mothers of 2nd and 3rd babies ever had a baby shower with the first or second...
Sometimes its just nice to have the party since the woman in question may not have ever had the fun of such. I know I had never even been invited to any parties other, or if I had been, never had the opportunity to attend.

He has had many root canals and crowns. We are now going tomorrow to get one of them completely removed. It was crowned but has decayed underneath to consistency of jello, so off it has to come. Other than dental implants, nothing else to do at this point. He has front teeth that I'm sure will have the same problem before long, as these have been capped for years after root canals. The pain gives him fits. I know this is tough for you.
Am very sorry for your loss [2008-06-14]
It is so sad to lose a pet. We lost our two cats in 1989 (both died within 3 months from eacher other - were brother/sister). It is so hard and to this day I cannot talk about them as it chokes me up and I start crying as though it was yesterday and I feel such sadness (you would think after 9 years I'd be over it by now, but it still hurts - and now I can see why my mom never got over my baby sisters death). In amongst our research we wanted to know if pets go to heaven and came across some wonderful web sites. Here is a link to a site I just came across as my MIL just lost her cat. I hope it helps you during this time.

I own a pit bull...sm [2008-06-13]
He lives inside with us and sleeps in my bed with me when my husband is out of town working. He is nothing more than a big baby. I believe you that your dog is amazingly sweet. Just because he has a certain breed in him does not guarantee he will be a mean, dangerous dog. I think it is WRONG to euthanize a dog because of its breed. It makes me very angry. I do agree with restrictions such as having a fenced in yard and not allowing them to roam loose. These dogs are very protective of their owners and WILL hurt someone if they are a stranger and they feel their owner is threatened. That is where dog owner responsibility comes in. My dog has never and will never be allowed to roam free. He stays in the house and I have a fenced in back yard he cannot get out of. I have signs posted on the fence in the backyard as a warning. He is not a mean dog but if a stranger he does not know approaches him or the back yard or comes to the door he will get aggressive. If someone my dog is not famiiiar with comes over I put him in the backyard. But as long as it is someone he knows and has met and he knows I am okay with them being here he is fine. He will lick them and wag his tail. He is just very protective of me. If anyone ever tried to hit me or attack me he would attack them. I had a friend jokingly look at CJ (my pit) and she said I am gonna hit your mama CJ and she reared back and hit at me. He did lunge at her. But I hollered and grabbed his collar and when I hollared he instantly sit. But I told her don't ever do that again. Beleive me she won't. CJ would never intentionally hurt someone unless he felt I or he was threatened. He is the biggest baby ever. If he knows someone he will lick them and love on them. To euthanize all pit bulls is stupidity. Unless you own one you don't know what misunderstood dogs they are. It is all in the owner and how responsible they are. If you don't own one you can't know how loving they can be. I can say without a doubt my pit would die to protect me if he had to. And the only time he will get aggressive is when a stranger approaches our house or the back fenced in yard. RESPONSIBLE ownership is the key. I don't even take CJ out for walks because I do not want to take a risk of him getting loose from me and feeling threatened by somone and hurting them. He will not have an opportunity to bite anyone because if a person he doesn't know comes over we put him out in the backyard in the fenced in area. If a stranger comes in the back yard when there are signs posted then they will just get bit possibly because they were warned. They can come to my front door anytime. But not the back. I think I am responsible and if my dog was aggressive to us or my friends or family who came over I wouldn't have him but he is not that way. It is only strangers.
How do you feel about pit bulls? [2008-06-11]
A year ago we adopted this amazingly sweet puppy from an animal rescue. Was told he was a golden retriever mix, they thought with Aussie. As he grew we just did not see the Aussie and in trying to figure out his breed, through the vet and some research found out is part pit. He is a lovely, sweet, gentle dog.
Here is the problem. Ohio has strict restrictions regarding pits; you have to carry extra liability, fenced yard, keep them in a pen, etc. Any incidents and the dog is destroyed. My dog is never outside unattended. If we aren't with him, he is tied. When loose we are always right there, and he listens well. He loves our cat and has never shown any aggression towards other people or animals. You should see him with kids and babies. Would melt your heart. My neighbor's Sheltie is meaner than my sweet baby, having bitten my kids several times, and they let him roam loose.
Now a representative Yates in Ohio is proposing a bill that all pit bulls or those suspected of being pit bulls be taken and euthanized. If this bill passes, the dog warden would have the right to issue a warrant and come and take your dog if it is suspected of being a pit. You can read about the law here:

Breed specific legislation is so amazingly stupid and closed minded. Any dog is capable of being vicious, it is just a matter of responsible ownership.
hot flashes [2008-06-10]
I am going through menopause too (just turned 50) and the hot flashes were driving me nuts - about every half hour or so and wasn't sleeping. I did some research on the 'Net because I can't take HRT and found a lot of good things being said about Estroven. About 2 months ago I started taking Estroven Maximum Strength and now I only get about 1 hot flash a day!! Yippee! They also came out with Estroven PM which I tried and I slept like a baby. It's all natural. Plus you can get a $3 coupon online if you Google the website. Hope you feel better soon.
